Flying Dutchman Take 2: Van Persie Comes To Arsenal's Rescue Second Game Running.

Tonight Arsenal lined up together pretty much what they will be like tomorrow, as Griffin stated that tonight was a test match for his squad to see how they perform and hopefully see if this squad is capable of beating Boca tomorrow night in the Uefa Champions League, and it looks like they will be capable of anything after there display earlier.

Albert Gilardino opened his Arsenal goalscoring bank when he scored in the first minute of the game as he hit a trademark strike for the Gooners. City could have gone 5-1 up after the first goal but it eventually went the Gunners way as Gael Clichy followed up a powerful shot which was eventually parried away by Shay Given and he hit it high out of the keepers grasp. 27 minutes later, Arsenals 2-0 lead was shortend when Left Back Wayne Bridge absoloutely thumped a right piledriver from 20 yards out under the arms of Manuel Almunia.

23 minutes into the second half, Robin Van Persie hit a thunderous left foot volley into the top corner from the edge of the box, thats a real poachers effort! 9 minutes from time Abou Diaby wrapped the game up for Arsenal as he dummied the keeper and went round Shay Given to finish and put the game to bed for Arsenal. Full Time; Arsenal 4-1 Manchester City.

Big Shake Up For Chelsea, As Man Utd Leave Them Feeling The Blues

Chelsea 2-7 Manchester United

Salomon Kalou (16,47)

Nemanja Vidic (35)

Carlos Tevez (37, 81, 83)

Dimitar Berbatov (51, 64)

Ji Sung Park (82)

Chelsea boss Adam Selby suffered his first defeat in his manegerial career managing Chelsea, after being demolished by the Red Devils, Manchester United 7-2 in a friendly match. Hopes were high for Selby as they cruised past Tottenham only yesterday, but all optimism was destroyed with the soul-crushing defeat. Selby opted for an odd 3-2-2-2-1 formation, and this worked in the first half in comparison to the second half. Selby's men took the lead with Salomon Kalou bagging his first goal on the 16th minute. However, Nemanja Vidic nodded in from an inswinging corner from Park. Argentine Carlos Tevez, then scored his first of the game, on the 37th minute blasting the ball past Czech keeper Petr Cech. The score stayed at 2-1, and despite being 2-1 down Selby's men still played equal to the standards of The Red Devils. However, pre-match instructions of reverting to a more attacking, and loose defensive structure was put into place against any power of Selby and thus lead to the downfall of Selby's Chelsea side. Regardless of how bad the formation turned out to be, Selby's men equalled the score to 2-2 with Salomon Kalou bagging his second of the game. But then a flurry of goals followed, with the Man United's third of the game came with Dimitar Berbatov scoring on the 51st Minute, then netting again on the 64th minute, putting the score at 4-2. Chelsea were still in the game until three goals in three minutes killed off any hope from Chelsea's side with Carlos Tevez on the 81st minute, before completing his hat-trick on the 83rd minute. In-Between Tevez's goals, Park Ji Sung also scored his first of the season in all competitions. This put the score at 7-2 with 6 minutes, and added time to go. And, still to the very end Kalou went for a hat-trick but Van Der Sar kept out Chelsea's efforts with ease. Full Time score, Chelsea 2 - 7 Manchester United.

Chelsea Starting XI: Cech, Boswinga, Terry, Carvalho, Essien, Ballack, J.Cole, Malouda, Drogba, Lampard, Kalou

Selby Rues Tactical Mistakes, Which Caused 7-2 Battering

3984291734-soccer-barclays-premier-league-manchester-united-v-chelsea-old-trafford.jpg

Selby seen tonights idea of a friendly to very strong title competitors Manchester United as a chance to choose an alternate formation, and use players in different positions. After, using the basic 4-4-2 formation in his first win, on the opening day of the season, Selby opted for a 3-2-2-2-1 formation, which is an alternate formation of that of a 3-4-2-1 formation which was used at half time. Selby's 3-2-2-2-1 formation, seemed to work a treat in the early stages of the first half and despite being 2-1 down at half-time Chelsea were still competing at the highest level and attacking at Manchester United on all fronts. However, a pre-set match instruction placed there before the game was put into place, and thus led to Chelsea's battering of 7-2. Selby says that next game, he will stick to his guns and only choose a formation based on how he feels the other team will play and the best for the strongest pllayers in the team. However, on the other-hand Selby had nothing but praise for Manchester United Connor Bowen saying that he was a manager he admired, and signalled that he believes that Manchester United are his main threat en route to the title. But he didn't play down the danger of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City stating that this isn't going to be a stroll in the park, and my players in my squad need to buck up their ideas ahead of their next league match, on Wednesday. However, next game for Selby's men is Fiorentina in the SMFA Shield where Selby plans to keep to a conventional formation, but a weakened side mean Selby's team will go out aiming for a draw.

Fiorentina 2-2 Chelsea

David Villa (44)

Franco Di Santo (65)

Zdravko Kuzmanovic (67)

Andriy Shevchenko (68)

After Chelsea's mauling to English Premier League title competitors Manchester United, Chelsea boss Adam Selby set out to restore some pride and boost team morale in Monday's European Cup tie against Italian side Fiorentina. Managed by one of the best and active people on the transfer markets, Selby's die knew that they had to peform to the best of their ability, however player's conditions ahead of a league match on Wednesday meant that Selby had to field a very weakened side. Shevchenko, partnered Di Santo up-front, with Sturridge opting for a Right Wing position, with Drogba, Kalou and New-Signing Diego Forlan being handed a place in the stands to watch te game from a distance. Both teams kicked off the match in a familiar attacking style, but Fiorentina seemed to have the upperhand due to a much stronger squad. Attempts from David Villa at the Chelsea Goalmouth were all stopped by Petr Cech who retained his Number 1 position for the thrid game going in all competitions. But as much as both teams attacked each others, goalmouth Fiorentina had the better chance of going ahead. And right before half time, on the 44th minute, El Guaje - David Villa made one of his goal-scoring opportunites count and put the Home side ahead right before the half-way mark. So, Fiorentina went in with the upperhand at half-time, but Chelsea boss Selby gathered his men and told them to restore some pride for the club as a whole. His words of wisdom must of made some difference, and Chelsea pulled it back to 1-1, with young Argentine Franco Di Santo latching onto a through ball from Sturridge. But within two minutes, Fiorentina took the lead again with, Zdravko Kuzmanovic scoring from a free-kick set piece. But, to everybody's shock Chelsea pulled it back within 60 seconds later with Andriy Shevchenko boosting his reputation at the club and showing his desire to score goals for Chelsea, with a long-range effort. The game was now anybody's for the taking, but both teams had lost their spark come the latter end of the game, and to the neutral fan's dissapoint a european game which promised a flurry of goals, eventually ending with a winner come up short, and the game ended in a 2-2 stalemate. Selby despite only getting a point out of the tie, said he was delighted to restore some pride after the shocking defeat to Manchester United in a non-competitve friendly on Sunday 12th. This concludes the match report for Selby's, and Chelsea's first European game.

Chelsea Starting XI: Cech, Belletti, Ferriera, Mancienne, Alex, Mikel, Malouda, Mineiro, Shevchenko, Di Santo, Sturridge

United started the game well, building up from the back and working there way forward.

It was soon 1-0 to United, Good play from the midfield played in Ji Sung Park to slot home cooly.

2 minutes later and it was 2-0!...Carlos Tevez tapping in after a good pull back from the by line.

Bolton worked hard to get back into the game, and did pull a goal back... Johan Elmander with a clever finish from 5 yards out.

The game was stretched, both teams looking to score the all important goal that would most likely be to decide the game.

The game looked to be over after Carlos Tevez grabbed his 2nd after a mistake from the Bolton defence.

Half Time

After a entertaining first half, it looked set to be the same in the 2nd.

Bolton clawed there way back into the game after a Kevin Davies screamer crept in.

Before Bolton could settle down it was 4-2, Michael Carrick with a low shot into the bottom corner.

After United's 4th goal the game calmed down abit, with United takeing control and working there way up the field.

Carlos Tevez got his hat-trick after a terrible mistake from the Bolton keeper.

With a minuted remaining Carlos Tevez got his 4th goal...after lashing home from 15 yards.

Full Time

So a terrific night for United and Tevez. Next up is Arsenal in a friendly and then Birmingham for 3 points!

Liverpool 1-1 Chelsea

Javier Mascherano(29)

Didier Drogba (86)

After overcoming a hard European tie to Italian outfit Fiorentina with Selby's men escaping with a 2-2 draw, Chelsea's next fixture was against one of the strongest all round squads in the English Premier League, Liverpool. Selby enlisted Liverpool as one of his title threats in his first press conference along with Man Utd, Arsenal, Man City and co. Managed by Rod Hardwick, Liverpool are a dangerous side, and Selby's men aimed to cause an upset. But as per usual, with both teams attacking as good as each other, eventually it didn't result in an overall winner and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. The overall match statistics favoured Liverpool on the sheer amount of goal-scoring opportunities, but in reality it was more of an even encounter with the two lethal goalscorers, Didier Drogba, and Fernando Torres for Liverpool respectively, posing a threat equally as dangerous as each other. The game kicked off with both team attacking each other as good as each other, but on the 29th minute, Liverpool took the lead. In a lovely move building up from the defence, eventually Javier Mascherano latched onto a passing move from Steven Gerrard and blasted it past Petr Cech in the Chelsea goal. The game then which started off so lively took a turn for the worse, and hit a quiet spell up to the Half-Time mark. This then continued well into the second half, however with Liverpool still on the front-foot, Chelsea still looked for the crutial goal. And, out of the blue after missed opportunities earlier in the Second-Half, Ivory Coast hitman Didier Drogba nodded in from close range, from a Zuri Zhirkov corner and set the Away section of Anfield alight. The game despite last-minute attacks, ended in a 1-1 stalemate and in heindsight was a fair result for both teams. Selby said he was pleased, but announced he wants to make sure Chelsea win there next match.

After failing to gain a win in his last three games, Selby as extra gruelling practice ahead of Saturday's EPL, Must-Win match against Sunderland, Selby had his men in Munich facing one of the most dangerous and top-quality sides, not only in Europe, but also in the world. Bayern Munich. Selby as usual fielded a strong side with all key players starting in a new formation which previously hadn't been used under Selby. However, the tactical change seemed to have pulled off, and after two draws in Selby's last two competitve matches, Selby's men rampaged to victory in an 8 goal thriller. Throughout, Chelsea dominated throughout the pitch, and statistics support this view. Chelsea opened their goal account on the 17th Minute, where former CSKA Left Mid, Zuri Zhirkov bagged his first goal in a Chelsea jersey. This goal was then followed up on the 32nd minute, by key playmaker Michael Essien also scored his first Chelsea goal. The scoreline stayed at 2-0 to Chelsea up until the half-time mark, but it was after half-time when a flurry of goals and goal-scoring opportunites were finished. Bayern Munich launched a comeback 4 minutes into the second half, with former Stuttgart striker, Mario Gomez scoring from an indirect set-piece. But then clinical Ivory Coast striker, Didier Drogba proved why he is one of the best strikers of modern football with a truly outstanding overhead kick to put Chelsea 3-1 ahead. However, in end to end football Bayern Munich responded with a wonderful goal of their own with Mario Gomez getting his second of the match. With the score-line at 3-2, t was anyone's game but as they had been through the game, Chelsea were much more on top, and thus leading to the next goal of the match. Zuri Zhirkov scored a bullet header on the near post to get his second of the match, and Chelsea's fourth. However, Bayern never gave up hope, and with five minutes of the game remaining German hitman Miroslav Klose scored from outside the box to put the score at 4-3 with 5 minutes, plus added time remaining. Could Bayern launch a comeback? In simple terms, No. As two minutes later Salomon Kalou tarnished any hopes of a comeback and scored his 4th goal in all competitions for Chelsea. After being linked with a move to Zenit, Kalou proved he is still more than happy to be donning the Chelsea jersey. Final Score, Bayern Munich 3 - 5 Chelsea

Chelsea Starting XI: Cech, Carvallho, A.Cole, Terry, Belletti, Zhirkov, Mikel, Essien, Kalou, Drogba, Lampard

Boca Fans Travel In Their Little Numbers To The Emirates, Eventually Losing Out To A Jovetic Goal.

Arsenal's second team went into this game shaking and feeling nervous, having never played together this season, they new they'd have to perform well. Youngster Stevan Jovetic got himself on the team sheet due to previous performances, New signing Joo-Ho Park got himself on the team sheet too, and Eduardo finally found himself in the starting Xl after a year and a half out through a career threatening injury.

Arsenal started well with Boca not rushing into the game, Arsenal had many chances within the first half an hour but the game was still at level peggy. Theo Walcott was showing signs of breaking the deadlock but nothing special was made. Late into the first half, Boca started creating chances and many spectacular saves were being performed from Manual Almunia.

Start of the second half and it appeared that Eduardo had been subbed off for Bendtner. Bendtner then had a handful of chances to put the Gunners infront, but many were too easy for the Boca keeper. Park Joo-Ho went on an amazing run, where he was so close to scoring the perfect debut goal, when he hit the post from 28 yards rebounding then into the path of Jovetic who finished easily past Abbondanzieri. Boca couldn't keep up with the challenges from Arsenal and looked like they had fallen apart by the hour mark, leaving them with no energy left to attack and equalise. Full Time: Arsenal 1-0 Boca Juniors.

Chelsea feeling the Blues, after defeat to The Black Cats

Saturday 18th July 2009

Sunderland 3-1 Chelsea

Dean Whitehead (8)

Frank Lampard (55)

Kenwyne Jones (64)

Andy Reid (80)

In a mid-season friendly to German hotshots, Bayern Munich a victory of 5-3 greeted the Blues, so as expected expectation was high and raised against The Black Cats (Sunderland) in Chelsea's fourth league game of the season. Starting in the same 4-2-3-1 formation that cruised to victory against Munich on Thursday night, Chelsea looked set to cause a real upset away from home and take all three points. But as per usual, to the dissapointment and anger of the travelling Chelsea faithful, Chelsea fell to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of The Black Cats. In a game which Chelsea dominate from start to finish, gathering more shots on target than Sunderland did all game, Chelsea simply failed to capitalise on strong, and developed attacks and get the all-important goal. Both temas started the game in familiar attacking fashion, and from the start the dominance of Zhirkov and Drogba going forward caused distress in the Sunderland defence, but after a long ball into the Sunderland box was blasted out by Craig Gordon, Dean Whitehead broke free from the half way line, leaving defenders chasing his shadow as he calmly placed the ball past Petr Cech. 1-0 Sunderland. However, as much as both teams carried on attacking hoping to break free and score a goal, with Chelsea looking to equalise, attempts from both sides fell short of goal and thus leading to Sunderland going into the Half-Time break with a slender 1-0 home advantage. As the second half began, Chelsea come back onto the pitch with the same dominance they had throughout the first-half, and eventually 10 minutes after the break, Chelsea's hard work payed off, after Central Midfield general, Frank Lampard placed the ball past Craig Gordon in the Sunderland goal-mouth and put the score back to 1-1. So after Chelsea's hard-work put the result back to a stalemate between the two sides, both teams attacked at each other looking for the all important goal to give either side the victory. But on the 64th Minute, Sunderland made it 2-1 with Kenwyne Jones, getting the all important goal. And then 16 minutes later, Irishman Andy Reid sent the Chelsea fans straight out of the stadium in disbelief over the team's dreadful peformance against lower-division rivals after scoring a gift of a goal, which was spilt by Petr Cech on the Chelsea goal-mouth, hence giving him a tap-in goal from close range. So 3-1 down with 10 minutes to go, Chelsea had no way of getting back and this resulted in the Blues losing their first league game of the season. This has dropped Chelsea from the Top 7 in the EPL Division 1, to 11th. Chelsea manager Selby is said to be extremely dissapointed with today's result, but has promised fans that he is the right man for the job, with any questioning his credentials in the current job.

Final Score: Sunderland 3 - 1 Chelsea

Chelsea Starting XI: Cech, Carvallho, A.Cole, Terry, Belletti, Zhirkov, Mikel, Essien, Kalou, Drogba, Lampard
