Rochdale 0-2 Stockport County

D. Graham '1

P. Thompson '38

Stockport got their visit to Spotland off to a cracking start when Graham capitalised on a mistake by the home keeper and rolled the ball over the line from a yard out. As the County fans celebrated many were still getting to their seats in the first minute. The away side continued their dominance in the match with the lionshare of possession. Matty Mainwairing floated an exquisite ball for Paul Thompson to come from out wide and chase, he knocked the ball over the oncoming defender and volleyed the ball past rooted Moradi.

With the away team going in at half time two goals to the good the crowd was subdued at half time. There was a controversial moment within minutes of the second half beginning, Johnny Mullins made a run into the Dale box and was brought down, but the referee was having none of it and booked Mullins. The second half was dominated by Rochdale, however the nearest they came to scoring was when D'Laryea hit an oppertunistic 30 yard drive.

The away win puts County in 6th place, only two points behind the top 4 teams on 9 points. The manager hinted that there could be a few bodies brought in before the home game against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Great night in europe for Marseille

Chelsea 1 V 2 Marseille

Ben Arfa 28"

Cavenaghi 57"

Essien 72"

It was an away night for Marseille in europe, and after the 4-0 drumming from Fiorentina on the opening night, i'm sure the Marseille manager wasent too keen on the idea of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, but the game started superbly for the visitors on the 28" Hatem Ben Arfa flew through the chelsea defence with a superb and netted past Petr Cech for the opening goal. Chelsea had a few chances before the break but nothing came of it, the second half started terrible for Chelsea when on the 57" Fernando Cavenhagi finished off a cross from Ben Arfa. But on the 72" Michael essien hit the ball from 40 yards past Rensing to bring Chelsea back into the game, but the french visitors held on and took all three points from the bridge. Fernando Cavenhagi picked up the Man of the match.

Stockport County 4 - 2 Brighton and Hove Albion

P. Turnbull '14

J. Johnson '24

N. Forster '30

D. Graham '41

T. Viudez '43

O. Johnson '78

Six goal thriller at Edgeley Park was attended by 6,330 fans, it is an early match between two of the divisions stronger sides. The first chance of the match feel to the visitors with Forster releasing a powerful snap shot which was comfortably saved by Fon Williams. Somewhat against the run of play Stockport took the lead Paul Turnbull breaks through the seemingly non-existant Brighton defence and slides the ball past the oncoming Smith from 10 yards. The Brighton side push to get back in the match, but the finishing touch is missing from their play. County unleash a fast counter attack down the left hand side with goalscorer Turnbull down the left who crosses the ball for the Center back John Johnson to head into the roof of the net. Karl Hawley should have put Stockport 3 up after pushing a shot just over the bar from the edge of the D. The pressure that Brighton were applying finally paid off when vetren Nicky Forster rolled the ball into the empty County net. Yet again a County penalty decision goes the other way when Peter Thompson was tripped in the box and the ref waved away any claims. A few minutes later Danny Graham breaks through the Brighton defence and beats the ex-Motherwell keeper Smith when he hit the shot early and over the top of an on rushing Smith. Brighton instantly hit back to pull themselves within one at the break, Viudez cracked a curling shot past the rooted County keeper.

The second half began with the visitors raining attempts on the Brigton goal with County seemingly unable to reply. The County keeper had his head in his hands as his mistake lead to former Celtic player Virgo having an open goal, but he returned the favour and missed. Stockport regained their 2 goal lead when 75th minute substitute Oli Johnson scored with a great header. His movement was amazing and he was awarded the Man of the match award despite coming into the match so late. The match fizzled out after the 78th minute goal and finished with County picking up the three points. Brighton will feel that they missed to many chances, and on another day may have comfortably won.

Next up for County is the Shield third round match at home to Southend. County manager Chris Hutcheson is not sure about fielding a full strength side as his main aim is to gain promotion.

P.S Any comments on my reports, does anyone read them and care about my lowly division 4 antics?

Stockport County 2 - 4Southend United

G. Tansey '10

D. Scannell '31

R. Ertsas '51

F. Laurent '60

D. Freedman '78

D. Freedman '87

A Stockport County reserve side go down in the shield despite leading twice. The match got off to a feisty start with a booking for bad tackles for both teams. On the 10th minute young Greg Tansey the County Centre Midfielder breaks away from his marker and thumps a shot into the bottom corner. This was a start that the all but keeper reserve side needed to get them settled into the game. The feisty start began to bubble over when Adam Barrett got involved in a scuffle and spat in Paul Ennis' face and was quickly shown the red card. The sending off seemed to galvanise the away side and they heaped the pressure on the youthful County. Camping on the box usually leads to a goal, and again it did, County were unable to clear the ball, a proper old school goal mouth scramble resulted with Scannell knocking the ball in the net. County rallied and most certainly finished the half the stronger with chances falling to Ertsas and Ayarna. The Stockport fans applauded their reserve prospects off the pitch for a very good showing.

The second half began very cagey, neither team wanting to take many risks. The Argentine Porcari floated a cracking long ball for Ertsas to volley past the keeper, who never even moved for the shot. The first mistake of the half by the County team lead to a goal, as the offside trap failed which let Laurent through onto the keeper and he chipped it over into the net. This appeared to be the beginning of the end for the County side as they became a little lacklustre and their lack of fitness showed at this level. However, it took another 18 minutes for Southend to take the lead Dougie Freedman unleashes an amazing shot, something that suggests he should be playing at a higher level. County had a couple other chances with Ertsas heading just wide, however they couldn't pull back into the game. Freedman added another goal to his performance, a beautiful curling shot, like Henry at Arsenal! The final scoreline is not a true reflection of the match as County had much more chances and shots on target, just lacked that killer touch that Freedman had for Southend. The man of the match Ertsas showed a lot of potential and should feature in the near future.

The County fans were impressed with their youngsters and understand that manager Chris Hutcheson is concentrating on gaining promotion to Division 3. The team sheet for County's next match, away to Cheltenham town in the league will look very different.

Cheltenham Town 3 - 0 Stockport County

A. Lindegaard '20

D. Siradze '44

P. Connor '76

Stockport never really turned up to Whaddon Road to face Cheltenham and the home team took advantage. Some say the poor performance was down to team selection for the previous shield game, others think it was to do with speculation that manager Chris Hutcheson was going to Hartlepool. However, the manager confirmed that he rejected the offer and wants to stay with Stockport, this is a decision that pleases the chairman and the fans.

It only took, Town twent minutes to break through with Lindegaard putting the finishing touch, however there was a strong sense of offside in the build up. The match simmered in the middle of the park, neither team making any real headway, until Siradze took a pop shot from 25 yards which flew past Williams into the net. With County down 2-0 at the break it had been a disapointing day for Hutcheson.

After the break, the match was a very dull affair, niether side pushing, seeming like the result was already without doubt. There were a few small chances for both teams, however nothing clinical. There was one moment of Genius which lead to a goal of the season contender by Paul Connor you will need to watch SMMOTD to see that one! The game finished 3-0 with County and their fans leaving for home with their tale inbetween their legs.

The result is even more disapointing due to the fact that a win today would have put County level on points with the top two in the division. Next up, is a home game against strugling Burton. Now manager Chris Hutcheson has confirmed he is staying, hopefully it will be a different performance from his side.

DORTMUND MOVE TOP

13_front_small.gif106_front_small.gif

BAYER LEVERKUSEN 0-2 BORUSSIA DORTMUND

ZIDAN '34

BLASZCZYKOWSKI '59

Borussia Dortmund moved top of the table after a 2-0 victory against Bayer Leverkusen. The game was heavily dominated by the away team as they took 61% of the possession and had 7 shots on target to the 1 of Leverkusen.

The first half an hour or so was Dortmund simply dominating and trying to find an opening.

The first goal arrived with 34 minutes gone, Zidan rounding keeper Adler and finishing from a tight angle.

After the goal Dortmund were straight back on possession as they searched for the second goal, the first half ended 1-0 to the visitors.

The start of the second half saw Vidal one-on-one, only for the linesman to put his flag.

With 59 minutes gone, Dortmund finally got their second goal through Blaszczykowski as he quickly turned the defender and fired in a shot into the bottom corner of the net.

Just a minute later, Leverkusen nearly pulled one back through Gekas, only for his lob attempt to go over the bar.

Kiessling could of pulled one back with 73 minutes gone, but his shot just curled wide.

The full time score was 2-0 and another hard earned victory for Dortmund who carry on their great form.

They next host 2nd placed team Hamburg, which will surely be a great match to watch, as the winner will top the table !

RANGERS IN TERMOIL..

This morning it was announced that gadga will take over as manager after walter smith was shown the door. Lastnites 1-1 draw with UNAM Pumas meaning a 4-1 defeat knocking the gers out of the smfa shield was the last nail in walters coffin, Rangers are having a bad season as there are 7th in the spl and a staggering 19 points behind leaders and rivals celtic.

Gadga as promised the diehard gers fans that he will turn the current form around and try to get a respecable placing in the league, we have 23 games left and i feel that we can finish at least 3rd, we have only the scottish cup for a chance to qualify for europe but we have got to get past celtic in round 1 on the 6th feb, we ahve played them four times already this season and conceded at least 4 goals every game, but that shield game is far away we are concentrating on wednesdays match against Falkirk a win there can turn this dissapointing season around..

On the transfer note gadga is on the hunt for a few defenders as we are short there..

Fiorentina Turn To Last Hope

Italian giants Fiorentina have assigned unknown, inexperienced and unproven manager Artifex as the man to lead them for the rest of the season. Viola's season has been in turmoil as they sit last of the Liga Calcio, miles away from safety. The lillies have managed to grab an astonishing 6 points this season in 16 games and with the president's seat vacant, the club's board made the rash decision to name a manager who no one has ever heard of before. A club spokesman said:

This was the last and only choice. Looking at our bad form and low morale, no manager would want to take this job on. We've had no potential applicants. We've signed Artifex on a temporary basis where he will act as the head coach for the remainder of the season. If he is to perform then the job may be to keep. The board have been very reasonable as they have provided the new coach with a healthy transfer budget. How Mr. Artifex wishes to spend this is entirely up to him.

The club has managed to hold on to its star players but how long they remain in Florence is yet to be seen. Manager Artifex has said that every player who is unhappy is free to leave. This could therefore open the door for players such as Gilardino, Montolivo and Vargas.

Mass Exodus At Fiorentina To Ensue?

Fiorentina's next game will be a league game against Chievo. If manager Artifex is to help change the fortunes of the lillies then he needs to start by taking all three points on Wednesday.

Fiorentina Swoop For Sanli

Just a day after taking over Fiorentina, manager Artifex has really got the crowd talking by swooping for Turkish striker Tuncay Sanli. The Ex-Middlesbrough and Sunderland forward has been in very poor form for Sunderland scoring just 3 goals out of 14 games, despite his impressive scoring record for SMFA World Cup competitors Turkey. The talisman revealed of his 'relief' of the move and said he was looking to help Viola bounce back and regain their rightful place in Italy.

I needed no persuasion to come here. This club has immense stature and I wish to help bring that back. The club has one main striker who is Gilardino, there are then 2 other strikers vying for the vacant spot. With hardwork and determination I believe I could be there partnering him week in week out and scoring goals again as I usually do.

tuncay_sanli1.jpg

Sanli Determined To Bounce Back

The lillies paid a total sum of £8,000,000 for the Turk's serviced and we may see him feature against Chievo on Saturday.

In other news, Fiorentina also snapped up Robert Huth from West Ham United and Christian Villagra from AS Monaco, both totalling a hefty price of £17,000,000. Manager Artifex is really demonstrating his intent to help the club and it would be of no surprise if another one or two players were to arrive in Florence.

Rosario Central win the Argentine Cup Final in a thrilling 7-0 victory. Yay.

This is the second reason for celebration, as in the first season of his return to the club, manager Michael Salt and Rosario Central are the champions of Argentine Division 2. Their sights are set firmly on taking the Division 1 crown next season.

Re: Gold Championship 63 Official Match Reports And Transfer News Thread.

Bury Update

I took charge of Bury on February 8th, 2012. The club are currently battling down in division 5. With 15 games gone we currently sit in 5th position, 8 points off the automatic promotion places. Luton Town are sitting comfortably at with 42 points. The gap is almost certainly too big for us to close down but we make a good challenge for a second place finish. I have completely rebuilt the squad since I arrived at the club keeping only 3 of my original players. There was very little cash to work with so I focused on trading with external clubs to increase the quality of the squad.

Our current first choice XI looks like this:

GK Par Hansson (85)

RB Alejandro Castro (80)

LB Djamel Mesbah (85)

CB Sally Sarr (82)

CB Ammar Jemal (85)

DM Kamil Agalarov (84)

CM Nuno Coelho (84)

CM Gonzalo Castellani (80)

WG Scott Sinclair (85)

WG Marvin Zeegelaar (78)

FC Tomas Pekhart (85)

Recent League Results:

15 Feb - Grimsby Town 0-1 Bury

This was a relatively comfortable victory for us on the day. We managed to score early on when Russian defensive midfielder Kamil Agalarov was allowed too much space and made no mistake from 10 yards. From there on possession ensured the victory.

18 Feb - Bury 1-0 Bristol Rovers

The score flatters Bristol Rovers somewhat as we totally dominated the game and really should have scored more. French central defender Sally Sarr scored the winning goal on the 59th minute with a powerful right foot shot that he'll be proud of.

Upcoming Fixtures:

22 Feb - Stockport County (A)

Friendly Match:

25 Feb - Rennes (A)
