Yet more transfer news to come out from St James's park but this time it's not someone coming in but someone going out. Newcastle manager Tom Hemy has confirmed that they've accepted a reported 6.6 million pound bid from Plymouth for Australian target man Mark Viduka.

Tasci for sale

36501.jpg

After Mario Gomez joined FC Bayern in Real Life, and until now there's no other good CF in the team, I have to sell Tasci in a part-exchange deal against a CF with 90+. It's a hard decision because Tasci is the future of the German defense and he's likely to rise in future as everybody should know.

Just PM me.

TOON FAIL TO SEE OF READING IN DISAPPOINTING DRAW

Newcastle's first game of the season saw them face Reading at home surely their would only be one winner? But in a game where two of the English division two promotion hopefuls up against eachother people weren't exactly writing Reading off, and they were right too.

So the game eventually kicked off and the St James's park crowd in full swing despite their relegation, the home crowd were behind the team all the way but after six minutes they were silenced by a fantastic twenty-five yarder from Erik Huseklepp who proved his one point million price tag wasn't to much to pay. Newcastle weren't giving up though and straight away started to give the home supporters to cheer about with new signing Turan Arda taking it past several defenders and lobbing it over the keeper. The game continued to be even then in the twenty-sixth minute Reading defender Andre Bikey got sent off for a blatant kick at Obafemi Martins. It seemed like Bikey getting sent off did Reading a favour as they straight away started to dominate but neither side could find a goal so the game went into half time 1-1.

The players came out of the tunnel to kick off the second half and staright away Newcastle started to dominate with efforts from Obafemi martins and Turan Arda turned away by Reading stopper Adam Federici. The match gradually got more even with both sides having great efforts and both keepers producing great saves to keep to score level. The final ten minutes loomed and from out of no where Newcastle had a late burst of energy with Obafemi Martins and Razvan Rat having brilliant oppertunities turned over to the wrong side of the post by Adam Federici. So the match ended 1-1 at st James's park.

Turan Arda received the MOM award putting on a superb debut performance, pictured above celebrating his first goal in a Newcastle shirt.

(P.S. I know it's the wrong it's the wrong shirt but couldn't find anyone celebrating a goal in one of the new shirts.)

Preston North End 2 Cardiff City 0

Liam Smith won his first game in charge of Preston at Deepdale tonight, seeing off promotion rivals Cardiff 2-0. Second half goals from Jon Parkin and debutant Ivelin Popov secured the 3 points for the home side.

JonParkin.jpg

Cardiff had the best of the chances in the first half with Ross McCormack and Joe Ledley both coming close towards the end of the half. McCormack blasted the ball from long range, more in hope than expectation, but his screamer hit the crossbar and the ball kindly dropped into North End's keeper Andy Lonergan's arms. Joe Ledley really should have put the visitors infront when he met Chopra's fine cross but glanced his header just wide of the goal meaning Cardiff went in at the break regretting their missed chances.

The second half was a totally different story with Preston flying out the blocks and they took the lead within 8 minutes of the restart. The ball was played square to Jon Parkin on the edge of the Cardiff box and he lashed the ball into the top corner to send Deepdale into raptures. Following the goal Preston were full of confidence and almost doubled the lead not soon after, Stephen Elliot's dipping 25 yard volley smashed off the crossbar with Cardiff on the ropes. Young winger Ivelin Popov sealed the win for Preston with poor communication at the back from Cardiff allowing him clean through on goal and he made no mistake beating David Marshall with a composed finish.

Internazionale 7 - 0 Chievo

Internazionale started the campaign at home to Chievo with a morale boosting 7-0 victory, this should set them up for the big Monday night SMFA Champions Cup Group C away tie against Boca Juniors, who have also started well with a 2-0 victory away to River Plate. The outcome of this game could be pivotal, even at this early stage, to decide who qualifies from Group C.

Five Alive Saints

Saint Mirren began their season with a five goal haul against Partick Thistle. Robb (2), Higdon (2) and Potter were the men who left Partick fans contemplating jumping in the Clyde Canal. Billy Mehmet picked up the man of the match award.

In signing news, Saints have picked up free agents Patricio Galaz and Johnann Vogel. The signing of Galaz could see Mehmet's performance not being enough to secure a regular start and may lead to Dennis Wyness looking to kick start his career elsewhere.

(Lyon Celebrate the victory)

Liam O'Connor's first game in charge at Lyon turned out to be one of the most amazing days of his managing career. Liam beat Manchester United with Mansfield and beat Real Madrid with Numancia and yet he didn't boast but he told Eurosport he was "thrilled" with this result so it must be something special. The game saw new signings Mark Van Bommel and Luca Toni play and them getting a 8 and a 9 on "The Sun's" match day ratings column. Monaco set out a strong side too though with new signing Tomas Costa playing and getting a 7 rating in the Sun column. The great strike force for Lyon of Luca Toni, Lisandro Lopez and Sidney Govou seemed to take immediate action as Lisandro Lopez's shot flew over. But Lyon did finish their next chance when Toni ran onto a through ball and thumped the ball into the top corner. And before Monaco had time to regroup, Lyon had scored another when Mathieu Bodmer finishes at the second attempt with a toe punt. Lyon dominated the rest of the first half and Fabio Grosso could have made it three.

Whatever Josh Wadham said to Monaco at half time certainly worked as Monaco pulled a goal back on 47 minutes when Anderson Nene headed home a great cross. Monaco pushed for a equaliser but the Lyon defence of Bodmer and Cris did not budge. The Monaco attack did blow over soon though and Toni and Govou had great chances to score but were saved by Monaco goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier. But then the deadly pair did score, Toni scored his goal on 76 minutes when he beat the Monaco offside trap and slided the ball under the keeper. Eight minutes later Govou got his goal with a diver header at the back post thanks to a great cross by Lisandro Lopez. This victory gives Lyon plenty of confidence taking them into tonight's friendly against Real Madrid and Mondays SMFA Cup group stage game against FC Schalke 04.

New Signings!

Despite showing their interest in many a player Manchester United have only signed 2 players who will play for the reserve team. Several youth players were signed however all of them would have to prove themselves in the reserves to have chance of playing in the first team. The signings were-

Andre Santos was signed from Fenerbahce for a paltry 5 million. The manager believes Andre Santos who has broken into the Brazilian squad has the potential to become one of the best full backs in the world. Santos who be back back up to Patrice Evra and will play in case of injury or suspensions to the Frenchman. Due to his limited grasp over English no interview is available.

Next to sign was the Egyptian talisman and captain courageous Mohammed Aboutrika. Aboutrika was signed for 10 million with Thomas Kuzcak going to Egypt. Aboutrika who is an attacking playmaker will not be starting games from the off go as he has yet to acclimatise to the frantic pace of the EPL.

It was probably last night's 3-1 loss against Real Madrid that dampened team spirits is the reason Lyon lost. Lyon started the same squad that beat Monaco 4-1 on Saturday but lost in last night's friendly and Schalke put out the same side that beat Hoffenheim 3-1 on Saturday. Lyon could have took the lead earlier in the match with Sidney Govou missing a great chance, but they did take the lead in the 31st minute when new signing Mark Van Bommel hit one of his trademark strikes, but Schalke answered to this four minutes later when Kevin Kuranyi chipped Lyon keeper Hugo Lloris. Both teams battled it out then but Bayern took the lead again just before half time when Luca Toni rounded the keeper and tapped the ball home.

But Schalke did respond quickly yet again as a minute after half time Jefferson Farfan scored for Schalke with a volley from a poor header of a clearance. Both teams pushed for a winner and Lyon came so close when Fabio Grosso's free kick hit both posts and then cleared by Marcio Rafinha. The draw moves Lyon into second in the SMFA Cup group H after Sao Paulo beat Juventus. Lyon now face Sochaux in a league match on Wednesday and then on Thursday they play Grenoble Foot 38 in a friendly match.

Re: Gold championship 65 official match report/transfer thread

Internazionale took the long flight to Argentina to face Boca Juniors in the first group C match of the SMFA Champions Cup. La Bombonera was a hot atmosphere of 55,000 partizan supporters, where a stong but jetlagged Inter side narrowly went down 1-0 to an experimental Boca Juniors side.

The Inter side averaged 94 and the Boca side only 86, Inter will just have to try harder in the remaining 5 fixtures, but are glad to get the arguably most difficuly fixture out of the way in the first game, coming away with a narrow defeat, goal difference could yet play a part in this group.
