MARQUINHOS

Marcos Gabriel Nascimento, better known as Marquinhos, is a Brazilian attacking midfielder who has been attracting attention in the youth setups of Internacional. He has just turned 19 in July.

Unknown before the end of 2008, Marquinhos was unlucky, getting injured quite a few times, missing the Copinha 2008 amongst other tournaments. However, once the Brasileiro Sub 20 started in December, his rise was meteoric. He started the tournament on the bench, but was given a start in the second game against Flamengo. He scored 3 goals; and Inter won 4-1.

Slowly, he started being recognized as the star of this U20 Inter team (Walter, Sandro, Taison and Tales were all with Brazil, Giuliano was still with Parana) and by the end of the tournament, he was top scorer (8 goals), edging out Nautico's Anderson Lessa (6 goals). He was also on the team of the tournament, next to Grêmio's Mithyuê.

Then came the Copinha 2009, the biggest youth tournament in Brazil. Again he showed skill, flair and knowledge, making it on the team of the tournament next to Bernardo of Cruzeiro. They beat out Oscar (Sao Paulo) and Wellington (Fluminense).

Internacional do not currently need to rush Marquinhos as they are flush with AM talents (Andrezinho, d'Alessandro, Taison, Giuliano) so they are letting him develop. He was called up for the trip to Japan recently, but couldn't play because of injury. Expect a Brasileiro debut within the next few months. He also started in a Campeonato Gaucho game, the 4-1 win over Ulbra, with the Inter A team.

He's being brought up slowly, which is exactly what Inter have done with Taison and are currently doing with Giuliano. Keep an eye out for Marquinhos, he may be a good one.

Quotes about Marquinhos (Translated)

He was one of the best players I saw in Sierra Vermilion. Technical, fast and knows very well how to use the body. He has a great future ahead, because, now, football requires physical strength and versatility, which he has to spare. He is, above all, a simple and humble boy.
Within the field, Marquinhos is a confident guy. Team player, always thinking about the partner. Outside, it's the same: since he's arrived at Inter, has not changed at all. He is humble, and that makes him a great athlete and a great person.
I have no doubt that Marquinhos is a born talent, whose quality as a player, combined with the infrastructure provided by the Sport Club Internacional, will make him an ace. He's a humble kid and correct, good nature and entirely appropriate to the system of the football club.

Thanks to Tom, who mentionned him to me way back in december.

Re: Marquinhos (Internacional)

Awesome thread as always Mark. Enjoy reading these reports. Man, Internacional must be having among the best training facilities in Brazil with them producing such talents such as Pato, Taison, Sandro and Marquinhos.

Been trying to follow some brasileiro matches lately but due to the big time differences i've been able to catch only a few. I have to say i've become a fan of both Internacional and Palmeiras. Well, I full expect this kid to achieve big things in the future with him being named alongside Bernardo in the team for that big youth tournament.

Re: Marquinhos (Internacional)

An hour after the game ends, UOL already have a nice page-long writeup on the "new Internacional Surprise", including a quote from Tite that states that if Alecsandro doesn't perform a miraculous recovery, Marquinhos will start Wednesday against Atletico MG.

Re: MARQUINHOS, Nascimento (78) - 8.5D

An article in Brazil today blaming the Inter manager for the poor string of results this year. The main criticism? Marquinhos hasn't played. It seems like the manager is betting everything on Kleber Pereira, Taison and mainly Edu, when the three havn't shown anything in the past year.

If the results continue, Inter will sack Fossati. Then, keep an eye out for Marquinhos.
