FC Juventus

Juventus have confirmed they are set to land 22 year old CB Dmytro CHYGRYNSKYY after Shakhtar accepted an offer of £15million and Iaquinto earlier this afternoon. The Ukranian international was also linked with a move to Real Madrid and Barcelona but will play in Italy this season after Juve won the race for his signature. The player is expected to have completed his medical by tommorow afternoon and will be available for selection in the season opener against Atlanta should the transfer complete.

The solid defender will be unveiled to Old Lady fans before kick-off tommorow should the deal successfully complete.

Finally, Gianluigi BUFFON could still leave the club tommorow with the final details to be resolved shortly...

09 Bundesliga Ladder:

ladderaeda.jpg

Recent R.L. History:

21st Febuary, 2009 - Bayern Munich def. by 1. FC Koln, 2-1

13th September, 2008 - 1. FC Koln def. by Bayern Munich, 3-0

The Bayern Perspective:

Okay, lets not beat around the bush, one of these sides will be eyeing off the league title whilst the other will be trying to avoid relegation. Whilst the team from Cologne may not be the heavyweights in Germany by any means, we all know that they'll certainly put up a fight if past meetings are anything to go by.

It's fair to say that Bayern's poor start last season was a contributing factor in them missing out on the league title. With this in mind, Bayern manager, WillC has publicly stated that last years start, which featured just 2 wins in their opening 7 games was simply unacceptable and urged his players not to be complacent and to treat their opponents with respect.

Meanwhile, 1. FC Koln will fancy their chances knowing full well that they comfortably disposed of the German giants late last season. With another sell-out crowd predicted at Allianz Arena, whether the Cologne side can rise to the occasion on the big stage or simply falter under pressure remains unknown.

A loss to either team will put them behind the 8-ball. Bayern knows this all too well, and with big games against FC Porto and VFL Wolfsburg coming up later this week, this game is simply a must win, confidence wise.

What the stats tell us

Bayern Munich

• 2nd in Goals For

• 14th in Goals Against

Bayern averaged just over 2 goals per game in R.L. but with the likes of Gomez, Olic and Ribery parting ways, can Bayern still kick the necessary goals to win?

After noticing the backline being exposed on a few occasions, Bayern Manager, William Chen managed to gain the services of Jose Bosingwa to partner alongside Lahm, Van Buyten and Demichelis down back.

Overall, Bayern have strengthened their defense at the expense of firepower.

bosingwa-eyebrow-lookalikes.jpg

Jose Bosingwa joins Bayern Munich.

1. FC Koln

• 15th in Goals For

• 8th in Goals Against

It may be a surprise to many, but 1. FC Koln's defense isn't quite that bad. Their main deficiency comes from their attack, which was one of the worst in the competition. Former Bayern Star, Podolski joined the Cologne side over the summer and is expected to give them a much needed boost in firepower.

podolski%20toni.jpg

Luca Toni & Lukas Podolski, former Bayern teammates.

The Keys to Victory

The Key Forward Battle – Toni and Klose v Podolski and Novakovic looks good on paper and the duo who capitalizes on their opportunites will most likely get the positive result. Novakovic kicked 16 out of FC Koln's 35 last season with their 2nd highest goalscorer only managing 3. It is important for Koln to not become one dimensional in attack. Podolski is the man they want the ball with.

Dominating the wings - Despite the departure of Ribery, Bayern still boasts one of the strongest wing combinations in the Bundesliga. Expect Bayern to use Schweinsteiger and Robben who should dominate their directly opposed players. Koln's wingers of Ehret and Vucicevic will need to be on their game and provide as much pressure on the Bayern duo and not allow them to dictate play.

The Lineup

15 man squad for Bayern:

Rensing, Lahm, Van Buyten, Bosingwa, Demichelis, Van Bommel, Robben, Tymoschuk, Altintop, Schweinsteiger, Gago, Pranjic, Toni, Klose, Pizarro.

The starting XI will be decided later today.

The Prediction

With Bayern manager, William Chen wielding the axe on several players, expect a fired up Bayern side who will all be eager to cement their starting positions. This won't be easy, and expect Koln to be within the hunt for the majority of the match.

Bayern Munich 2-1 FC Koln

Parma Struck By Late Blow

Parma lost 1-0 to Fiorentina tonight, thanks to a late goal from Santana. The Parma Line up had news stars Amr Zaki, Nikola Kalinic, Peter Odemwingie, Carlo Cudicini, Mohamed Aboutrika and Mladen Kristajic in it but Parma could't find a goal. James Prike insists his Parma side is good enough to challenge for a spot in a SMFA competition but getting the 40 points for survival is the most important thing first. Parma are also hoping to make a few more signings with their remaining budget. The bad news for Parma is Aboutrika is injured for 4 weeks which is a massive blow to them. Parma face a tricky encounter on wednesday night when they play Udinese.

Harvey - Summer Spending Over

Grimsby Town manager Jack Harvey has told Sky Sports News that there will be no more new signings at Blundell Park in the foreseeable future. Harvey has brought in 25 new faces to the League 2 side, while letting 20 leave. Harvey has placed four more players on the transfer list, and he hopes that when those four players leave the club, his squad will be ready for the new season. Grimsby haven't enjoyed the best start to the campaign, going down 1-0 to Cambridge United in their opening league fixture before being dumped out of the shield by Division 3 outfit Huddersfield Town. Harvey explained that he expects his side to turn things around when they host Notts County at Blundell Park tonight, and has hinted that there won't be many changes from the side that travelled to Cambridge on Saturday. He said, "It was a poor performance and result on Saturday, but I have to shoulder some of the blame for that. Most of them haven't played together before so it will take time for them to gel, which is what we've been doing in training." The Mariners now have an average squad age of just 20, while their first team is even younger, average age being 19. We take a look at some of the new arrivals at Blundell Park:

1411243h_0_RaNsU.jpg

Mark Randall has joined on loan from Arsenal. The promising midfielder wasn't part of Arsenal's first team plans this year, but he will be a regular feature in Grimsby's midfield and will be looking to impress his parent club. Randall has also represented England at U17 level.

21410.jpg

Leandro Cabrera was Harvey's second loan signing. Cabrera has also represented his country, Uruguay, at U20 level. Atletico Madrid were keen to allow Cabrera to come to Grimsby to get some first team football, and Cabrera is Harvey's first choice centre back alongside club captain Ryan Bennett.

federico-macheda-getty-622744817_100x100.jpg

Federico Macheda was Grimsby's final loan signing under Harvey's stewardship. The Italian U21 international featured for Man United towards the end of last season but was allowed to come to Lincolnshire where he will be top dog at Blundell Park.

camilo_andrs_vargas_gil.jpg

Camilo Vargas is Colombia U21s first choice goalkeeper, and was 2nd choice keeper at his previous club Santa Fe. Grimsby paid 225K for the young goalkeeper, as well as former Town stopper Nick Colgan.

1032199_medium.jpg

Masibusane Zongo is a promising midfielder joining from Supersport United. Zongo was attracting interest from Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur just a few months ago, so Harvey was delighted to bring in someone of his quality and with his potential. The South African midfielder is Grimsby's most expensive player ever, at 900K.

tenvoorde0910_0.jpg

Young Dutch striker Rick Ten Voorde was one of Harvey's main targets this summer. The former NEC player made an impact in Holland at the tender age of 17, when he scored 9 goals in 18 matches for FC Emmen in the second tier of Dutch football. This earned him a place in the national U19 Holland team. He then moved to NEC where a great pre-season saw him added to the national U21 team at just 18 years old, making him the one of the youngest players in the squad. Rick also won the Bronze Bull award in Holland, which is also known as best talent.

onicas.jpg

Mihai Onicas joined Grimsby from Steaua Bucarest for 450K + Jean Paul Kalala. Onicas recently made his debut for Romania U-21s against Faroe Islands, and has the potential to be a great player in years to come. Onicas has competition in the middle of the park however, with Randall and Zongo starting Grimsby's opener at Cambridge.

Other signings for the Mariners are: Juan Govea, Luke Holden, Karl-Johan Johnsson, Jurie Basie, Nhlanhla Ngubane, Carlos Robles, Jeison Candado, Victor Tarazona, Junaid Mashamaite, Lucas Rath, Raffaele Chiarelli, Filip Misevski, Stefan Tomovic, Catalin Craciun, Sekou Oliseh, Mile Skoric, Furdjel Narsingh, Aleksandar Kirov, Juha Pirinen, Dragos Firtulescu and Rhyan Grant.

FC Juventus

Juventus have hit a stumbling block early on in the season it would seem as they have failed to win the last two fixtures. A contest against FC Shalke 04 of Germany in the SMFA Champs Cup ended in a 1-1 draw. However, tonight Juve fans were furious with an away defeat to minnows Bari in a 3-2 loss.

The team face Udinese in another away fixture later on in the week and a win is a must to get the show back on the road.

Meanwhile, there has been no new transfer news at the club as expected following the season kick-off although rumours suggest the club is looking to sign a second choice goalkeeper and right back for cash.
