Hodgson Takes Over at Atalanta

Earlier today Atalanta named their new manager as Jonathon Hodgson. He was chosen because of his ability to bring attractive fluent football to the team, his ability to motivate players and his techniques in the transfer market. Hodgson said it is an honour to manage a team he has supported. He stated them as his favourite team in Italy. The new boss will not have time to prepare for tonights game against rivals AlbinoLeffe, but will take charge of tomorrows light training session and look to finish the season with automatic promotion if possible. During his announcement as being the new boss, Hodgson and the Atalanta chairman said that the first target for the new look team is promotion preferably automatic and then we can go from there.

First Full training Session For Atalanta with Hodgson

Atalanta today conducted there first full training session with their new boss. The players were seen laughing and joking whilst participating in an intense session.

It was also the first training session for the new signings. Marcelo, Fabio, Pique, Song and Defoe all seemed comfortable in there new surroundings. Hodgson believes there won't be many new signings from now until the end of the season and that the team he has now is more than capable of gaining automatic promotion to the top flight. Atalanta have spent 42 million pounds since the new manager took over but today cashed in on Talamoni and Makukula who completed there moves away from the club. Wilson Palacios joined training later after his deal went through after some delay. He was expected to join with the others on the same day but because of complications is deal could not go through. However he arrived at the airport, where he is pictured below, then he went straight to the Atalanta training ground, signed his contract and joined his team mates for training.

After his flight and contract signing Palacios was understandably tired but still put in a lot of effort for the rest of the training session

Atalanta are now looking forward to Hodgson's first game properly in charge against Frosinone on the 26th. All new signings are expected to start and a win for Atalanta could see them in the top 2 and in the automatic promotion places.

The first game of the new era

Atalanta will tonight begin their new era under the leadership of manager Jonathon Hodgson. They will be targeting all three points and hopefully a jump into the automatic promotion places. There has been a number of players brought in to the club and a number have departed, the majority of new signings will start tonight, including new 8.2 million pound signing Foggia. Along with Foggia a number of brazilains signed, not high profile signings but Hodgson hopes for big things with the likes of Douglas Costa and Ciro. Also on the same day as these Brazilian acquisitions, Atalanta revealed the signing of former PSG 19 year old captain Sakho. He is not expected to start tonight but is a well thought of prospect that has already captained a big club in France.

Above Foggia in action for one of his former clubs Lazio, Hodgson believes his experience in Italy will benefit not only Foggia but the whole team

First 3 points for Hodgson and Transfer update

Above: fans watching the 1-0 win over Avellino in a local pub

Atalanta have celebrated their first three points under the guidance of Jonathon Hodgson. It was a strong 1-0 performance where they dominated possesion and could of scored a lot more than Gerard Pique's excellent blistering run and lob that left everyone stunned. After the game Pique's centre half companion Thiago silva who made his debut said "I didn't know centre backs could run that fast and have that type of technical ability, I hope Gerard does that more often".

Transfer Update

A few days ago, Atalanta signed two key players in defenders Thomas Vermaelen and Thiago Silva. Hodgson said on the day of their completed deals, "our defence is now sorted. We will now work on the rest of the team and building our youth setup". Atalanta now have defenders such as Pique, Thiago Silva, Vermaelen, Sakho and Pellegrino all at their disposal however it is believed that Pellegrino maybe another player to leave the club.

One exciting transfer which has a few football experts excited is Atalanta's signing of Brazilan wonder kid Keirrison

Hodgson has said he is a very exciting prospect and can develop into one of the most prominent strikers in the world. A comment which has Atalanta fans hoping of so much future success.
