Earlier this week, Ipswich Town boss Ross Philp secured three loan signings from First Division side Chelsea. Philp felt that his side was short up front and that more forwards had to be brought in, and with hardly any money left in the budget, they would have to be on loan. Thankfully the Chelsea manager obliged and loaned out forwards Edin Dzeko and Daniel Sturrige - Dzeko being launched into the starting eleven for the Newcastle match tonight. Midfielder Fabrice Muamba was also loaned from Chelsea to Philp's side too.

NEWCASTLE UNITED 1-4 IPSWICH TOWN

Ipswich manager Ross Philp handed debuts to loan signings Edin Dzeko and Fabrice Muamba, and to seven other new signings as well, including star striker Lisandro Lopez for this match against Newcastle. Simon's Newcastle side boasted players such as Denis Kolodin, Marco Materazzi and once Ipswich target, Esteban Granero. Household names Kevin Nolan and Steven Taylor also featured.

The match started fairly evenly, with only Landry N'Guemo's shot going wide for the away side, being the only opportunity in the opening ten minutes. However, the visitors soon took control of the tie as Fernandes Michel Bastos (below mobbed by his team maters) skipped inside his marker and scored from 25 yards in the 12th minute to mark his debut with a goal. Esteban Granero brought Ipswich goalie Denis into action a minute later, although the margin between the sides was double just three minutes after that. Lisandro Lopez hit a powerful right footed shot into the onion bag as the away side really opened up a gap between them and Newcastle. Edin Dzeko missed two chances in quick succession, before his team mate Stefano Guberti (newly signed from Roma) tripped over the ball in a swift counter attack. N'Guemo struck wide of the mark just before the break as the score was 2-0 at HT.

And so to the second half where Ipswich again started the better as loanee Muamba put his free header wide, and Niki Zimling's cross went all the way across goal with nobody on the end of it. The home side did press and as thought, made a few chances - their best being Materazzi's easy chance. Newcastle were being forced to work hard to stop the away side extending their lead as Busquets blocked a Zimling shot and Ryan Taylor's challenge stopped a promising Ipswich attack. The lead was extended on 66 minutes as loan signing Edin Dzeko (below at Wolfsburg last season) used his power and pace before lashing home. It seemed that N'Guemo's debut was to be a goalless one as he again missed a glorious opportunity before goalkeeper Denis was forced into a double save in the space of two minutes. Despite being behind on possession, the home team managed to keep the ball long enough to score as Sergio Busquets volleyed past Denis in the Ipswich goal who was finally beaten. It was no more than consolation, however it was quickly forgotten as record signing Lisandro Lopez sealed his brace with a glancing header in the 81st minute to finish the game outright.

Ipswich, with that result, moved up to third in the table and remain unbeaten for the season. They travel to Peterborough in their next match, who are yet to win. Swansea City top the league, with West Brom just behind them in second place. Ipswich manager Ross Philp is looking to add to his squad still, and is confident of adding four new players to the clubs ranks at some point tomorrow. It will spend the rest of Philps remaining £2,000,000 budget. Any news on the transfers will be reported here when the news breaks.

PETERBOROUGH UNITED 0-3 IPSWICH TOWN

Fresh off a fine away win against Newcastle United, Ross Philp's Ipswich Town side travelled to Peterborough United on Saturday night. Part of the fact that they beat Newcastle so comfortably was due to their good start, and Saturday was no different as after only 5 minutes, Niki Zimling (below at former club Esbjerg) shot from an acute angle and the ball was deflected into the goal as Philp's side took the lead. Both Denis in the Ipswich goal, and Toldo in the Peterborough goal were kept busy throughout the first half, but Zimling's goal was the only talking point at the break.

Philp was not best pleased with his side's first half performance and put the emphasis on starting the second half well. And they did just that as on-loan striker Edin Dzeko kept up his fine scoring run on 52 minutes as his mis-hit shot squirmed under Toldo's body to extend Ipswich's lead. Aogo and Lisandro Lopez went close for the away side, before their goalkeeper Denis was forced into a save just before the hour mark. As the home side pushed for a goal to get back in the match, they were caught on the counter in the 76th minute as Niki Zimling got his second of the match as he thundered the ball into the net. Philp's side went close through Michel Bastos and Guberti, but closed out the game and got a clean sheet, winning 3-0.

Having signed 15 players prior to Saturday's match, Philp has almost doubled that figure over the past few days as he signed a massive 14 players. Miroslav Stoch, Dries Mertens, Diogo Viana, Kevin De Bruyne, Nils Miatke and Toby Alderweireld all signed from their respective clubs. French rising stars Emmanuel Riviere, Yannick Sagbo and Herold Goulon also signed. And Brazilian youngsters Aparecido Danilo Silva, Souza Welinton, Osorio Johhny, Rafael Boquita and Neto Eduardo completed Philp's signings for the season it seems. At least for now.

IPSWICH TOWN 2-1 SHEFFIELD UNITED

Having beaten Peterborough United and Newcastle United with ease in their previous two matches, Ipswich had a home tie against Sheffield United on Wednesday in the hope of possibly going to the top of the league - somwhere manager Ross Philp aims to be. But that could only happen with three points in the match, against a team who boasted names such as Henrique, Jurado and Negredo.

edin_dzeko2_1417344c.jpg

Edin Dzeko, above opened the scoring for Philp's side on just eleven minutes as he finished off a slick passing move with a very clever finish. Prior to that, the away side went very close through David Cotterill on three separate occasions, but couldn't find the breakthrough. Alvaro Negredo then levelled the match later in the first half in the 33rd minute as he headed into the corner of the net after climbing above Ipswich defender Cissokho. Into the second half, and Dzeko went close twice in quick succession before Landry N'Guemo had the ball in the net but was then flagged offside. He did however, get a goal, just a minute later as on 56 minutes N'Guemo thumped the ball into the top corner after he latched onto Michel Bastos' through ball. Cesar Denis, the Ipswich number one was kept busy as the away side pressed for the equaliser and they could have scored. However it was Ipswich who finished the better as they hit on the counter. Michel Bastos, Lisandro Lopez and Benedikt Howedes all went close but the game finished at 2-1, and Ipswich did take over from West Bromwich Albion at the top.
