Re: Official Cricket Thread

good point' date=' and I supposed it would too rude just to have the microphones on the Asian umpires?[/quote']

Yeah it's a bit too much to target one specific group, simple because I have seen a lot of WI umpires do the same The games globalized and transparency is required in any sport if it is to attract and grow a following.

Would sledging have been a big issue without stump microphones?

I just feel for the umpires, if it was introduced for match fixing then it could still be done without the general public hearing the conversations.

its a very tough job to concentrate for 550+ balls a day.

Well its only for conversations between the third official and umpire at the moment. Stump microphones are generally live throughout the match though-although its feed is not real time in some instances. With the need to ramp up the emotive attachment to games I suspect this is the tip of the iceberg..

Lets face it having this may have prevented Umpire Hair and others from overstepping the crease..

New Zealand 262 and 174 for 8 need another 306 runs to beat Pakistan 566 for 3 dec and 175 for 2 dec (Hafeez 101*)

SL 73-4 (13 ovs) vs India 404-5 in the fourth ODI with

[MOVE]13rohit-1.jpg[/MOVE]

hitting a 264  in the ODI out of India's 404 for 5..

Continuing the tend of reports for illegal bowling actions, Mohammad Hafeez has joined Sachithra Senanayake (Sri Lanka), Kane Williamson (New Zealand), Prosper Utseya (Zimbabwe), Sohag Gazi (Bangladesh) in being reported. Only time and the ICC will see whether he joins fellow off-spinner Saeed Ajmal in being suspended for suspect bowling action.

Though it has come too late for the Kiwis in the first test as they crumbled to a heavy defeat

Pakistan 566 for 3 dec (Shehzad 176, Misbah 102*, Younis 100*, Hafeez 96, Azhar 87) and 175 for 2 dec (Hafeez 101*) beat New Zealand 262 (Latham 103, Rahat 4-22) and 231 (Sodhi 63) by 248 runs..

Pakistan is on a roll ..

and the controversial (in some media articles) non selection of India's Captain MS Dhoni for the Brisbane tests due to a fractured finger continues to rumble on..is he or the BCCI protecting him from the bouncy pitch of Brisbane

Re: Official Cricket Thread

Australia looking like getting a win against SA in Perth. good stuff.

50 overs Australia 8 for 300 (Bailey 70' date=' Philander 4-45)

South Africa 202/6 (36.2 ov)

Maybe a bit of a fight still in this once De Vill stays there...

The Supreme Court of India has named four key individuals connected with Indian cricket, including ICC chairman and sidelined BCCI president N Srinivasan, and IPL Chief Operating Officer Sundar Raman, as being linked to a degree of wrongdoing with regard to the 2013 IPL spot-fixing case.
http://www.espncricinfo.com/india/content/current/story/799467.html

I wonder if anything will come out of this

Australia fast bowler Mitchell Johnson has won the top ICC awards for 2013-14, being named the Cricketer of the Year, as well as Test Cricketer of the Year.

Pretty awesome this as the guy rebuilt himself to be one of the most fearsome fast bowlers today..

South Africa's AB de Villiers was named ODI Cricketer of the Year, while Australia's Aaron Finch won the T20 performance award for his 156 off 63 against England at the Rose Bowl in August.

De Vill just became the fastest to 7000 runs...

England's Gary Ballance was named Emerging Cricketer of the Year, while Sarah Taylor was named the Women's ODI Cricketer of the Year and Meg Lanning, the Women's T20I Cricketer of the Year.

Congrats

Australia 8 for 300 (Bailey 70, Philander 4-45) beat South Africa 268 (de Villiers 80, Miller 65, Coulter-Nile 4-48) by 32 runs

Well done to the Aussies, but a bit of egg on De Vills face after asking his team to field like demons, and they go out and drop Bailey not once, not twice, not three times, but four times..

Hope they are so forgiving when the WI reach their shores..

Unfortunately Michael Clarke has re-injured his hamstring which is thought to be linked to his ongoing back issues. Haddin the Test vice captain is also an recovering from bruising of the shoulder.

yeah but the batting still needs a bit of work though Johnson has been rested resulting in Xavier and Pat Cummins being called up.

Tea New Zealand 160 for 2 (Latham 84*, Taylor 1*) v Pakistan

This looks like a war of attrition..

After much chagrin, Denesh Ramdin has been retained as captain of a full-strength West Indies Test squad for their upcoming tour of South Africa, but the players have been given a deadline of November 18 to sign tour contracts.

Squad :Denesh Ramdin (capt), Sulieman Benn, Jermaine Blackwood, Kraigg Brathwaite, Darren Bravo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Sheldon Cottrell, Shannon Gabriel, Chris Gayle, Jason Holder, Leon Johnson, Kemar Roach, Marlon Samuels, Jerome Taylor, Chadwick Walton.

1st innings New Zealand 403 (Latham 137, Babar 4-137) v Pakistan

Great stuff from Latham..Pakistan 34/2 (19.0 ov)

The BCCI has said allegations against the ICC chairman N Srinivasan are baseless and has given him a clean chit in the IPL corruption case after its working committee meeting in Chennai.:o

if it is fine with the BCCI's working committee then it must be fine, I'm sure they worked very hard too.

You forgot to put in the white text ...or has SM developed sarcasm ink while I was away?!

Pakistan 281 for 6 (Azhar 75, Younis 72) trail New Zealand 403 by 122 runs

Cmon Kiwis ... just to keep the series competitive mind you

Australia 5 for 329 (Finch 109, Smith 73*, Warner 53) beat South Africa 256 (Amla 102, de Villiers 52, Starc 4-32, Hazlewood 3-51) by 73 runs

Amazing batting performance by the Aussies and less than stellar bowling from the SA attack. A great series so far-will SA come back?

New Zealand 403 and 54 for 1 (McCullum 41*, Williamson 4*) lead Pakistan 393 (Sarfraz 112, Azhar 75, Younis 72) by 64 runs

Bit of a controversy here as the Kiwis Latham was given out to a dubious decision by the on field umpire, whose decision was then reviewed and which gave the appearance of no visible contact ..However...with no hotspot available there was no conclusive evidence to overturn the dismissal..

Great batting by Sarfraz especially with tailenders. Something in this yet.

Should be entertaining -however bit of a weird situation by Clarke's Grade A club to give him an opportunity to bat..

Western Suburbs were sent in to bat and declared their first innings closed at 0 for 17' date=' before their opponents Paramatta responded by also closing early at 2 for 140.

Western Suburbs then reached 1 for 230 in their second innings by the close, meaning Clarke will be able to bat for the club next weekend should his hamstring respond to treatment swiftly enough to allow him to maintain a desperate bid for inclusion in the first Test team to play India in Brisbane. [/quote'] http://www.espncricinfo.com/australia/content/story/802347.html

Tbf I don't expect India to put up too much resistance on bouncy tracks in the tests -especially if you get at them early. However, lets face it they are more concerned about their ODI/T20 and the World Cup ..

Re: Official Cricket Thread

Just seen the BBC. Phil Hughes in critical condition after being hit by a bouncer:( Doesn't look good for him. Hope he pulls through.

Such sad news, really hope he pulls through - he was popular in his time with us (Worcestershire) and thoughts go out to him and his family.
