Re: Official Cricket Thread

Crazy game in Pallekelle today. New Zealand scored 92 runs in the last 4 overs  . That's 92 runs in 24 balls. I've never even managed that in stick Cricket! Ross Taylor did most of the damage and looks like the only 100% record in the World Cup will go today.

The highlights tonight will certainly be worth watching :P

EDIT: Broad out of the world cup - huge blow :(

Saw it. Quite ridiculous. Pakistan were partly to blame but pretty much every ball seemed to sail over mid wicket. Taylor got 62 of his last 16 balls:eek: And to top it all its his birthday today. Couple of nice presents from kamran Akmal AGAIN:rolleyes: Seriously how long will pakistan stick with him?? Dropped him twice in the same over when he was on 0 and 4:o

Re: Official Cricket Thread

Incredible from Ross Taylor who has been incredibly out of sorts in the last few months. I still don't see what New Zealand see in James Franklin at 5.

I've been saying this for a year or so now, Kamran Akmal has to be in there fro his batting. His keeping is pathetic.

As far as I can see Franklin can't bat and he can't bowl. If I could choose a bowler from international cricket to face needing to score 24 runs in an over, I'd choose Franklin :P

Can't agree on the Kamran Akmal point either. The drop yesterday cost 120 runs - New Zealand won by less than that. His batting hasn't been anything spectacular recently either and he has a tendancy to give his wicket away with a rash shot. Pakistan are better off betting a specialist keeper in even if he can't bat. You can't go on giving top order batsmen lives as they will inevitably punish you, just like Taylor did yesterday.

Really? I would choose Anderson at the moment :P

I think Franklin is a solid bowler but nothing spectacular.

Akmal has the potential to be the best batsmen. Safraz Ahmed has kept against Australia in one test match. His keeping was quite impressive actually. Maybe he could have a shot unless he hasn't been in the best of form. He seems to have disappeared off the radar.

Re: Official Cricket Thread

Looks like we're going to get lucky today, Bangladesh were heading for an easy win until Kayes ran himself out, completely collapsed since then.

Matt Prior's ODI career could be coming to an end, embarrassing way to get out and his keeping seems to be getting worse.

edit;

oops, I say collapsed and they get 16 off that over :o

Re: Official Cricket Thread

Have to say Bangladesh deserve it as they played the better cricket for 90% of the match. England have plenty to be embarassed about. The batting as a whole (thank goodness for Trott and the returning Morgan), the number of wides, Swann's moaning about the wet ball and his clash with the umpires, Anderson yet again is not the same man in ODIs as he is in test cricket etc etc. And how they could lose after having Bandladesh 169-8?

Certainly have been the best team to follow in the World Cup in terms of drama, however...

Re: Official Cricket Thread

Corrected. Anderson is most certainly not rubbish despite his performance today.

Anderson is quite obviously rubbish and has been for majority of the tournament. To quote Geoffery Boycott "A batsman on one leg and blindfolded could smash him with the way hes bowling" A very very poor One day bowler. No coincidence that he didn't play a single T20 game at the world cup last year

Doubt you were saying that against South Africa.

Re: Official Cricket Thread

No I wasn't but then again he wasn't anything special on a pitch that was very tough for batting. The fact that Strauss had more confidence in Micheal "I am a spin bowler who can't spin it" yardy says it all

Anderson and Broad took six wickets in the SA and bowled 11 overs between them. Yardy and Pietersen bowled 17 overs and bowled very ineffectively. What that tells you is Strauss had a poor game as captain, not that Anderson bowled poorly. In fact, he was very good.

Broad took 4 and Anderson took 2. Point is Strauss did not trust Anderson not to leak runs even on a pitch which was conducive to bowling. I'll hold my hand up and admit I am wrong if he does well against WI. But until then he remains a average to poor ODI bowler

If one game changes your opinion then, no offence, that is very weak.

Same thing could be said for you though or do you think he has bowled well this tournament SA aside:confused:

My main problem with him is he dosen't even get wickets with the new ball. Can understand him getting clobbered at the death but he gets smashed no matter when he bowls

Of course the WI game wouldn't completely change my opinion. Would probably be less harsh on him until the next time he gets smashed
