With 10 games remaining in the league Inter remain at the top, with surprise package Catania sitting just 2 points behind. In the SMFA Champs Cup the team travels to France for a Monday night Quarter-Final Leg 1 game against Lyon and in the Italian Cup Round 3 it's Chievo away from home also.

In transfer news, the club has been fairly busy over the festive period with three big deals being completed in time for Christmas (In):

Rene ADLER - Diego Lopez + Marko Arnautovic

Rio MAVUBA - Sebastian Egueren + £3 million

Federico FAZIO - £7.6 million

Manager Daniel Walmsley was very happy with all three deals as they have in turn brought the average age of the squad down by another year to 25 (Excluding youth team players)...

League Matchday 34- Everton 2 Chelsea 5

Chelsea travelled to there nearest challengers at the time Everton knowing a win would secure the title and Chelsea did not disappoint as ty put on a champions display to brush Everton aside and get the premier league title back to Stamford Bridge. The hero was undoubtably Nicholas Anelka who has been in fantastic form all season and scored 4 on the night along with a Salvio strike completed a memorabl night for Chelsea fans.

League Matchday 35- Chelsea 4 Liverpool 2

Chelsea fielded an experimental side with the cup game against Forest in mind yet still proved to strong for the mersey giants, Dniel Agger getting on the scoresheet against his old team but in his last act for the club Kalou scored an impressive hat-trick but this was to prove to be his farewell.

How about you leave Inter' date=' i'll take them, and win the league for you? :P[/quote']

I will still win the league' date=' i'm just giving you guys a head start :P[/quote']

True to my word as always, with Inter wrapping up the league title with a game to spare. Face Genoa in the Semi's of the Cup on Monday and then it's Liverpool in the second leg of the Semi's of the SMFA Champs cup. Like Ray's Chelsea we will also be hoping to bring home the treble!

APOEL Win Greek cup

After an unpredictable season, which saw Cypriot side APOEL finish with 56 points and mid table through goal differance behind PAOK and AEK Athens who also both finished on 56 points, APOEL managed to reach the greek cup final through knocking out Anorthosis 2-0 and holding their nerves to knock out AEK 2-0 in penalties after a 2-2 result after extra time. This ment the Cypriot team would have to face PAOK in the final and without their star striker Seydou Doumbia who was injured in the semi final. However he was not missed as APOEL came out fighting and scored within the first minute of the game through Kamil Kosowski, from then on APOEL dominated the game with 61% possession and scored a second in the 63rd minute when Kostas Charalambides poked home and put the game out of reach for PAOK.

Kostas Charalambides helps APOEL secure the Greek cup

With APOEL being unable to find a consistant form this season, the manager hopes that ending the season on a high will help them kick start their form next season and with the addition to one or two players hopes APOEL can cause more of a threat to the likes of AC Omonia who finished 2nd in the league 14 points above APOEL and champions Olympiacos who finished top 19 points ahead.

APOEL hope the partnership of forwards Seydou Doumbia (above) and chilean Esteban Paredes who scored 23 goals between them this season will continue next season

Chelsea Update:

Chelsea secure there Legacy as domestic treble is won :)

League Matchday 37- Chelsea 0 Wolves 0

Another experimental youthful Chelsea side took to the pitch and played reasonably well to secure a draw against Wolves.

League Matchday 38- Chelsea 2 West Ham 1

Chelsea got the worst possible start with new boy Chamakh making an instant impression-the wrong one after being sent off after only 4mins to leave Chelsea an uphill task, this got worse when Baraja fired West Ham into the lead but a rousing 2nd half display capped a fantastic league season for Chelsea with youngster Dudu and Zhirkov gaining Chelsea the win and ensuring they picked up the Premier League crown off the back of a win, Celebrations were muted though in preperation for Chelsea's assault on the English Cup.

English Cup Semi Final- Chelsea 3 West Ham 1

Just 2days after winning the title Chelsea were back and playing West Ham again it was vastly different teams but the result remained much the same as Chelsea cruised into the final. Terry, Essien and Anelka striking for Chelsea and the win should have been by a larger margin as Chelsea dominated proceedings throughout.

English Cup Final- Chelsea 3 Arsenal 1

Chelsea secured there legacy as they became the first English Club ever to win all three domestic trophies in one season. Arsenal provided a tough test and things did not look good when Spanish magican Fabregas fired Arsenal into the lead but Chelsea were not to be denied as goals from Torres, Anelka (who blotted his copy book by later getting sent-off) and Malouda sending Chelsea fans into raptures as the dream was achieved.

"The boys have been sensational, it is a defining season in years to come they will understand the enormity of there achievements. I hope they all have a wonderful off-season relax and recuperate for next year it will be tough to match this years achievements but that is what this club is all about being winners and having the determination to succeed we wont rest on our laurels and we will back firing in time for next season, where conquering Europe will be the next step on our agenda"

"I cannot imagine to many changes to the squad if any we have a wonderful mix of youth and experience, strength in depth in all areas and I wouldnt be to disapointed if we dont do any more business following the signing of Spanish wonderkid Canales from RacingSantander for 14.2m and Chelsea fans are in for a treat as this kidhas it all and will light up Stamford Bridge for years to come"

Transfer News

Henry Joins Man Utd which sees Berbatov + £6 million pounds coming the other way.

Pretty pleased with this as we now have a CF (3½ years younger than Henry too!) As we already had Messi and Ibrahimovic in the forward position Henry was finding his match days were spent wandering around Primark.

Berbatov gives us a different option up front, which we were sadly lacking last season.

Roma; Season Review

Roma have finished their first season under manager Ryan trophieless after a dissapointing season where they finished only in 7th place in the Italian league. Roma also only finished the Italian Cup and Shield at an poor 4th round. They have made some decent signings though in the past season with Napoli starman Fabio Quagliarella and Villareal Stopper Diego Lopez joining the Italian club, former Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips has also been a key part of Roma's season, scoring 17 goals throughout the season.

' I am quite pleased with my side throughout this season, i am rather dissapointed where we finished in the league table though and I think we can do alot better next season. I am guarenteeing that we will win a trophie next season, wether it is the league or the SMFA shield or the Italian Cup. I owe great gratitude to the club's fans who have been through it all with me and I hope that we will do better next season'. Ryan stated.

APOEL Claim Greek Charity Shield

APOEL 2-2 Olympiacos (2-0 after penalties)

APOEL started their new season on a high and managed to hold last seasons league champions Olympiacos to a 2-2 Charity shield final after extra time. Goals from APOELS Esteban Paredes and Seydou Doumbia cancelled out Luca Toni and Jaouad Zairi's goals for Olympiacos and after 120 minutes of play it was still level, which meant it would have to be desided from the spot. Olympiacos went in shakey and either missed or had all their penalties saved whilst the same 2 APOEL heros, Paredes and Doumbia again did the business and gave APOEL a 2-0 victory on penalties.

APOEL start their season on saturday with a home game against AE Larisa in the league before travelling to Brazil for an away tie against the might of Palmeiras in the first leg of the SMFA Shield.

I think you avenged me already with the easy 6 points i gave you last season B)

A good first season for you and the Genoa boss did a great job also finishing second and in the Semi's of the cup.

Inter took the league and last night the Charity Shield also, avenging Milan for the defeat in the final of the Italian Cup 2 weeks ago. Team is looking nicely balanced with money available:

A small youth team with some decent names in such as De Gea, Tobio, Marcos Alonos and Neto among a few others.

Re: Gold Championship 69 Match Reports/News/Transfers Thread

APOEL season 2 report

Greek charity shield

APOEL's first game of the season was in the charity shield final where they met the greek power of Olympiacos. With Olympiacos firm favourites, took the pressure off APOEL who came out all guns blazing and within 10 minutes took the lead through Esteban Paredes, however this was cancelled out when Olympiaco's veteran goalscorer Luca Toni put one in from range 12 minutes later. APOEL showed they were unsettled and 8 minutes later conceded again to Olympiacos, this time through Zairi, leaving them 2-1 up at half time.

APOEL came out for the second half with nothing to lose and within 2 minutes Ivory coast goal machine Seydou Doumbia slammed a low shot. The game went on into extra time with both teams refusing to give up, taking the game into penalties and ending in a 2-0 victory for APOEL.

Greek shield

With Apoel bypassing round 1 took them straight into the quarter final away against Aris. APOEL showed class and goals from Paredes (1), Tchoyi (1), Von Schlebrugge(1) and Doumbia (2), helped them to a 5-1 victory.

In the semi final, APOEL were once again drew an away game, this time against the might of AEK Athens. The game was tough but APOEL stood strong and a beautiful curling shot from Doumbia earned APOEL a 1-0 victory and a place in the Greek shield final.

APOEL once again met Olympiacos in the final and once again both teams battled it out in a very exciting game, the only difference being an APOEL goal from Chrysis Michail earning APOEL the Greek shield.

Greek cup

With APOEL doing well in the league and already having the Greek charity shield and Greek shield in their hands meant they were full of confidence to do the same with the cup. However they were over confident after bypassing round 1, they were drawn against AC Omonia who took advantage of this over confidence and got dealt out a 1-0 defeat for APOEL.

Greek League 1

APOEL once again showed good form throughout the league campaign but also fell victim to some embarressing loses like the 7-0 loss away to Olympiacos. However after last seasons 5th place finish they managed a 3 place improvement finishing 2nd, 2 points behind league winners Olympiacos but 7 points above 3rd placed AEK Athens.

SMFA Shield

The SMFA was APOEL's chance to show the rest of the world exactly what this little Cypriot team could do.

Round 1 saw them take on the Brazilian team of Palmeiras, the first leg being in Brazil. After some beautiful football from both teams, APOEL defender Nuno Marais thundered in an overhead kick to give APOEL a 1-0 advantage from the 1st leg.

The 2nd leg saw Palmeiras go 1-0 up after Jefferson opened up the scoring in the 17th minute for the Brazilian side. APOEL responded 11 minutes into the 2nd half when Esteban Paredes slammed in a low shot making it 1-1, which it stayed, giving APOEL a 2-1 aggregate vitory.

Round 2 saw APOEL drawn against the Spanish team of Deportivo, with the first leg at home. The Cypriot side took full advantage of this and a goal from defender Von Schlebrugge and a hatrick from Somen Tchoyi ripped the Spanish team apart and gave APOEL a 4-0 victory.

The 2nd leg saw APOEL travel to spain, where this time Deportivo took advantage of the home advantage and beat APOEL 3-1. However this wasnt enough to cancel out APOEL's fine form in the 1st leg and resulted in a 5-3 aggregate win for the Cypriots.

Round 3 saw APOEL called against the Italian might of Roma. The 1st leg was a shakey one at home for APOEL but they held strong and even with an injury to star striker Doumbia managed a 1-0 win over the Italian giants through Esteban Paredes.

The 2nd leg saw the return of Seydou Doumbia for APOEL and after going down 1-0 in the first half, Doumbia made a trademark strike to make the sides even again, before Somen Tchoyi made a solo effort past the defence and smashed in the winner in the 84th minute, giving APOEL a 3-1 victory over the Italinas on aggregate.

Quater final The quarter final saw APOEL drawn against supprise dutch side FC Groningen and supprise they did as they pushed APOEL aside with a 1-0 victory in the 1st leg.

The 2nd leg however was another story. APOEL knew what to expect and had done their homework on Groningen's weaknesses, allowing APOEL forwards Paredes and Doumbia to cause havoc and put 4 past the Groningens keeper, 3 from Doumbia alone. The final score was 4-1 to APOEL so 4-2 on aggregate.

Semi final The semi final saw APOEL once again face a Spanish side, this time in the for of Getafe. Both teams played a good game and APOEL new boy, Brazilian winger Periera Leonardo scored a great goal after showing his Brazilian skill to round the Getafe keeper before scoring. However the game remained close and Getafe got an equaliser in the form of Sergio Escudero, making it 1-1.

The 2nd leg started well for Getafe as Huntelaar took them 1-0 up after 5 minutes, however responses from Von Schlebrugge and Doumbia were enough to give APOEL a 2-1 win and 3-2 victory on aggregate.

Final APOEL had done the unbelieveable and beat some tough teams to reach the final against Sampdoria, but could they do the unthinkable and go all the way? the answer is yes. APOEL were hungry for this and even after a tiring season came out fighting.

7 minutes in saw loaned in midfielder Biram Kayal head APOEL 1-0 up. This just gave them more hunger and 2 minutes into the second half Doumbia curled in APOELs 2nd. However Sampdoria refused to give up, well until the 80th minute when APOEL forward Esteban Paredes put in a 3rd for APOEL and the game out of reach making them SMFA shield champions

After losing the SMFA Cup final versus Chelsea on penalties Barcelona tonight prepared to face unmanaged Recreativo in the Charity Shield.

A full strength team was sent out, minus the injured Dani Alves. Barca were firm favourites but despite having 56% possession, 27 shots with 16 on target we somehow managed to lose 2-0

That's the 23rd time I've been beaten in the charity shield final, not my favourite competition.

Season Transfers

The end of last season saw a number of APOEL players opting to leave for hope of success else where away from Cyprus.

French defender Marc Planus left the club after 2 seasons and returned to his previous club Bordeaux, Spanish defender Marc Torrejon left to Dutch side FC Twente, Somen Tchoyi departed for West Brom after 7 successful seasons with APOEL and Brazilian right back Leonardo Moura returned to his home nation and Sao Paulo.

With Brazilian players already shinning in the Greek league for APOEL the manager decided to stick with what worked and invested into more Brazilian stars in the form of striker Morais Welliton joining from Spartak Moskva for 12 million, Midfielder Domingues Claudemir joining from FC Kobenhavn for 1.1 million plus defender Isaac Mina and AM/FWD Brazilian veteran Silva Wesley joining from FC Vaslui for 5.7 million.

APOEL also signed Portugal RB/LB Azevedo Silvio

from Sampdoria for 7.8 million.

2 Of APOELS new signings Brazilians Claudemir and Welliton

After finishing runner up in the league last season APOEL came into their 7th season under manager Alex Thom all guns blazing and Dominated for much of the season finishing top of the league with 85 points, 22 points above 2nd placed Olympiacos.

APOEL finished the season with the top 3 league goal scorers:

Seydou DOUMBIA picked up the golden boot after scoring 31 goals in 32 games for APOEL, also created 16 assists and 5 man of the match performances.

Luiz ADRIANO scored 17 in 28 games for APOEL, also creating 7 assists and 8 man of the match displays helping him to become SMFA player of the season.

New boy Morais Welliton also scored 17 for his new team in his first 29 games for the team, also assisted 10 and managed 8 man of the match displays.

APOEL goalkeeper Dionisis CHIOTIS, defenders Fabricio COLOCCINI, Pedro GEROMEL, midfielders Douglas COSTA, Diego SOUZA and Bonfim DENTINHO also shone for APOEL this season.

With such a fine league form this season it was hard to imagine that APOEL would not do as well in other competitions, however thats exactly what happend. They crashed out of the SMFA Shield in the first round against French side Lille after 2 legs, lost out to PAOK in the quarter final of the Greek Shield and lost to AC Omonia in the first round of the Greek cup.

Next season the APOEL manager hopes to bring his sides dominant league form into other competitions and progress better that this season and of course win the league again!

APOEL lose defender Ledley KING to retirement at the close of the season which could see them invest in some more depth at the back however much of the team will remain the same, some players have expressed an interest away from Greece but the transfer market will see how this turns out. More news to follow.
