BIRMINGHAM CITY 4 CHARLTON 0

Birmingham had a fine 4-0 win against Charlton in their 1st home match under new manager, Craig.

Craig started the re-build by bringing in NIKO KOVAC and ROBERT KOVAC., both playing well.

More new signings will be made to strengthen the side for the new season starting which hopefully will help to bring success.

Final match of the season is AWAY at Wigan.

Spartak Moskva win league for 3rd season running, the Russians are going insane

Spartak Moskva tonight completed a league and shield double, by winning the league by just 2 points.

Manager SoP said "This is some achievment for any manager to win a league title 3 years on the bounce and only missing out on the first seasons title by 1 point from this years runners up Shakhtar Donetsk. The cup team also done us proud by winning the shield this year. The lads are now going on a well earned vodka cruise holiday and I'm going to look at the transfer market and see if there are any openings to be had."

Sevilla End Of Season Update

League

Unfortunately Sevilla narrowly missed out on Europe as they draw to Real Madrid in the final game. Unbeaten under Williams with 3 wins and 2 draws wasn't quite enough to see them reach Europe. Next season should be a firm title challenge.

Winston pleased with start

13_front_small.gifSochaux 2 - 1 Marseille12_front_small.gif

Sochaux have started well in their quest to retain their Ligue 1 title once again as they beat a very tough and Battling Marseille team, just promoted, Marseille put up a good fight against a full strength Sochaux team.

Once again, Winston's aims are in the SMFA Cup in which they have been drawn in a much easier group than last years "group of death" in which they amazingly finished top of. The Welsh manager wants to go one better than their quarter final place last season and even go all the way, there are some good teams in the competition but Winston is confident in his p-layers ability to cause an upset or two.

All of the goals came in the second half as the half time score was 0-0. Sochaux took the lead just 2 minutes after the break through on loan Otman Bakkal, who used some of his brilliant pace to burst through the Marseille defense and delightfully chip the onrushing goalkeeper.

The newly promoted team came back and caused a few problems for the Sochaux defenders but they could not find the net. They were made to pay for their missed chances as Sochuax took a two goal lead, Ebi Smolarek the scorer this time, his powerful header left the Marseille keeper no chance at all.

Marseille did pull a goal back late on in the game but it was too late for any sort of comeback.

Opening day victory for champs Porto

Sporting Braga 1-2 FC Porto

Champions FC Porto traveled to the Estádio AXA stadium tonight to face a unmanaged Sporting Braga side in the opening game of the new season. New manager Louis Mattis stated that his targets this season will be to do atleast the double. FC Porto dominated 60% possession, with 4 out of 11 shots on target.

FC Porto got off to the greatest of starts, they went 1-0 up on 1 minute, Mirko Vucinic finishing from a yard to put FC Porto 1-0 up. It was enough to send FC Porto in at the break, 1-0 up.

(Vucinic's early goal put FC Porto 1-0 up)

The second half didnt start well for FC Porto, and Sporting Braga leveled the game off on 55 minutes, Almeida Vandinho drilling home a right footed shot. But FC Porto scored the winner on the 74th minute, Fernando Navarro hitting a half-volley into the roof of the net to get FC Porto off to the greatest of starts on the opening day of the season.

Second straight win for Champions

67_front_small.gifMetz 1 - 2 Sochaux13_front_small.gif

Sochaux have started the season well as they have now picked up another victory. It was Metz that actually took the lead on 17 minutes when a defensive laps let them into score. Their lead only lasted 2 minutes as Sochaux got back on level terms through Gael Givet, who got forward into the attacking third and finished off a nice slick passing move. The score was 1-1 at half time.

The second half started off badly for Sochaux as they were reduced to ten men when Alexandros Tziolis picked up his second yellow card for a reckless high challenge. Sochaux still pressed even with one less player. They eventually scored the winner with just 3 minutes remaining when Algerian winger Karim Ziani met an in swinging corner superbly and headed the ball into the net.

Yet another 2-1 win

12_front_small.gifAuxerre 1 - 2 Sochaux13_front_small.gif

Sochaux continue their great start to the season as they pick up another win against a rival team. Welsh manager Dai Winston is happy with the start the players have made.

Sochaux found themselves 1-0 down after half an hour as Auxerre scored with a great lobbed goal. Their lead lasted less than 5 minutes as Russian international Pavel Pogrebnyak seized on a poor pass by the Auxerre defender and ran towards goal, he brilliantly rounded the keeper, who went to ground way too easy, and put the ball into the empty net. The score was 1-1 at half time.

Sochaux were in the lead within 5 minutes of the second half as Ebi Smolarek 's lobbed effort was fumbled by the Auxerre keeper and the ball rolled over the line.

Another win adds to great start

13_front_small.gifSochaux 1 - 0 Nancy12_front_small.gif

Sochaux continue their great start to the season with a tight win against Nancy. Thier Welsh manager was happy with the result but is slightly worried that the performances are not as impressive. Winston knows that its the results that count and the league is not high on the agenda this season.

With the first half ending in a disappointing stalemate things did brighten up in the second half. Sochaux did bombard the Nancy goal but could not find the net. Winston was getting weary that his team were going all out for the goal and were leaving gaps at the back.

Sochaux eventuallty made their dominance pay off as they took the lead with 15 minutes to go. Pavel Pogrebnyak was the scorer, he made the most of a mix up in the Nancy midfield and ran towards goal with the ball before firing a firce shot past the Nancy keeper. A great goal to win the game.

FC Porto comfortably beat Fenerbahce

FC Porto 3-1 Fenerbahce

Tonight league champions FC Porto welcomed Turkish side Fenerbahce to the Estádio do Dragão Stadium. FC Porto manager Louis Mattis wanted to get back on track after his side lost there 100% winning record in the league on Wednesday after they drew with Panathinaikos. FC Porto dominated 50% possession, with 14 out of 19 shots on target.

The deadlock was broken in the 11th minute, Dutch giant Klass-Jan Huntelaar smacking the ball past the despairing keeper. FC Porto doubled there lead on 38 minutes, Silva Dani Alves with a trademark strike. Fenerbahce did pull a goal back 1 minute later, but FC Porto went in at half time, 2-1 to the good.

Huntelaar.jpg

Alves.jpg

(Goals from Huntelaar and Alves put FC Porto 2-1 up in the first half)

Nothing much happened in the second half. FC Porto troubled the Fenerbahce keeper a couple of times. But they knew they would have to score a goal if they were to seal all three points. They scored that goal in the 71st minute, Nigerian John Obi Mikel with a long ranged shot flying into the top corner of the net to maintain FC Porto's 100% unbeaten record.
