Manchester United open they're champions league campaign tonight at home against River Plate. The new United manager has made several changes and only Arshavin and Fletcher keep they're plaaces after the 3-1 win over Wigan at the weekend, maybe the manager has his eye on the game against Burnley on Wednesday.Evans expects River Plate to bring fight to Old Trafford and it shouldnt be no easy game. The game see's debuts for Alexis, Maduro and Alexander Frei.

Exciting game at Old Trafford see's it finish 2-2

Manchester United 2 - 2 River Plate

Anderson 42*

Ferrari 50*

Frei 65*

Ortega 79*

We all thought at the start of the match that Evans had made too many changes to the side that beat Wigan, but it seems Evans was a tad unlucky tonight and poor finishing was to blame, as all his players played rather well.

Anderson opened his Manchester United account for the season with a goal on the 42*, United went in at half time looking comfortable but the second half they looked a little flat and were caught on the break when Ferrari netted for his club on the 50*.

United continued to press and got reward when a great solo effort form debutee Alexander Frei put them back infront on the 65*, no changes were made by the United boss and they started looking a little cagey and were stunned when veteran forward Ariel Ortega struck the ball from 30 yards past Van Der Sar. United failed to find they're feet again and the game ended 2-2, a great turn up by the away side.

Evans will be delighted with his three new players after tonights performance, Frei managed to get himself on the score sheet, which would have impressed his manager.

Manager playing too much Fantasy Footy?

Transfer Analysis

Transfers In: 59 ..... Transfers Out: 15

Surely questions must be asked regarding the type of team environment the manager is building. Specifically, it looks like Heerenveen manager, William Chen has no respect for the fabric of the team's spirit. Shipping off several players including the captain, Michael Breuer, who has given his heart and soul for Heerenveen over so many years must surely be the final straw with many die-hard fans. Even worse, more transfers are expected to be finalized by weeks end.

breuer.jpg

Club champion, Michael Breuer 'devastated' after being given the boot.

He's getting extremely carried away over the past few days, picking up a bunch of players, making trades for the sake of making trades and doing deals that have no real benefit but harm for Heerenveen. Perhaps he's enjoying himself?

What the hell is going on at Heerenveen? Is this a plan? Is he being ambitious? Is he being a moron? After conceding that the season was over on saturday, what other shocks will Heerenveen's manager conjure up. More importantly, how will the new look side perform? We'll soon find out with raging hot favorites, FC Twente travelling to Heerenveen on Wednesday.

The Scottish under 21 international went on to become the youngest player to score an SPL goal aged just 16 years, 11 months and four days. Goodwillie has represented Scotland at all youth international levels, appearing for Scotland under-16 at the age of 15

United missing important player as Burnley come to town

Matchday 2 for Manchester United see's them play Burnley at Old Trafford, but a massive loss to United is Ryan Giggs the experienced welshman pulled his calf in the away win over Wigan.

Burnley travel to Manchester after back to back losses so they will be looking to park the bus in defence to try to grab something, but then again the manager may be daring, looks to be a good game.Evans set to name the same side that beat Wigan but without Giggs. Burnley are set to give league debuts to new signings Maierhofer and Ebanks Blake.

Stalmate at Old Trafford as Burnley earn a draw

Manchester United 0 - 0 Burnley

Not much of a report at Old Trafford tonight as the game finished 0-0, one big thing to come out of the game was another injury for Man Utd as Patrice Evra sprained his ankle and will be out for around 2 weeks, big loss for United as the influential left back was having a good game before he picked up the knock.United dominated the first half with plenty of shots coming from the attacks but no goals, but after the half time interval Evra picked up the knock and the left hand side fell apart, with Park Ji Sung not playing all that well. None the less it was a great performance from Burnley and a good result for them.

Atletico Madrid made it two wins from two in La Liga last night as they saw off Zaragoza 3-1 at Vicente Calderon. New signings Didier Drogba and Florent Malouda grabbed the goals in a comfortable victory for the Madrid side who are now one of just five teams to take maximum points. They will play host to Osasuna on Saturday night and will be looking to continue their good form.

Zaragoza made a good start to the game and almost found themselves in front but Jermaine Pennant's shot went the wrong side of the post. Then, Didier Drogba did well to hold off his marker and struck a decent effort that curled wide. The match continued to be end-to-end and it just needed somebody to take their chance. The first man to do that was Florent Malouda, as he followed up on Diego Forlan's parried shot to tap in. On 32 minutes, Zaragoza winger Jermaine Pennant thought he had put his side level but his dipping shot wouldn't come down quick enough and it rattled the crossbar. It took just five minutes after that for Zaragoza to find their equaliser and it came through Peter Luccin. The French midfielder ran into the area unopposed, rounded Asenjo with ease and left himself with the simplest of tasks to roll the ball into the back of the net. The scores stayed level at half time, evenly poised for the second half.

Atletico came out fighting after the break and Zaragoza seemed unable to cope with them. Raul Garcia had a good chance from 10 yards when he found himself in space, and he would have scored had he not have hit it straight at the keeper. Florent Malouda then almost got his second of the game, when after some neat footwork in the box, he blasted over from close range. The goal did finally come for the home side, and it came through Didier Drogba. The Ivorian came short for the corner, cut inside of his marker and his left-footed effort curled past the unsighted Carizzo and into the top corner. Zaragoza pushed forward for an equaliser, though they were leaving spaces for Atletico to exploit. With just three minutes remaining, Florent Malouda raced through to meet Simao's though ball and the Frenchman converted to grab his third in two games for his new club.

SC Heerenveen 'outplayed'

Match Summary

SC Heerenveen's second game of the season was up against early competition front-runners, FC Twente. Despite making more than 70 transfers, Heerenveen were by far the weaker side, fielding a first XI average of just 85. FC Twente headed into this game as unbackable favorites and the result certainly proved this with K.Perez bagging 2 goals. In the end, Heerenveen's lack of skill and finishing touches was the difference between them and the visitors.

perez2goasl.jpg

FC Twente striker, K.PEREZ firing home two goals, well and truly deserving of the MOTM.

It was the 2nd game in a row in which Heerenveen failed to protect their lead. Questions must be asked about their brittle defense, who continue to leak fairly 'soft' goals. Despite the classy goal from PAULO HENRIQUE in the 6th minute, their were little positives to come out of this game. They're a work in progress and will need a lot of improvement if they are to stay up in the eredivise come seasons end.

We were outplayed by the better team tonight so credit goes to them. We let our home fans down but I'm confident we'll bounce back on saturday with a better showing. With a couple more signings expected to arrive over the coming days' date=' I'm fairly upbeat and optimistic at giving Standard Liege a run for their money. [/font']

In other news, Heerenveen have released young strikers, Michal PAPADOPULOS and Patrik INGELSTEN after two poor performances at the club. Overnight signings include Africans N.N'KOULOU and D.NIBOMBE with more expected to sign once medical checks have been completed.

Changes in the First XI for saturday's fixture.

INs: Nibombe, Smarason, Michkov, Jean Carlos.

OUT: Biemans, Janmaat, Ingelsten, Papadopulos.
