FEYENOORD UNVEIL NEW MANAGER

Feyenoord have unveiled Leon Cook as their latest manager, replacing Mario Been.

Cook has inherited an excellent youthful side and as such is not looking to make wholesale changes, just add to the squad in certain areas.

Only one transfer has been confirmed so far and that is the departure of vice-captain Roy Makaay to Newcastle for an £8 million pound fee.

Cook told reporters that he did not plan to feature Makaay in his squad and that he was looking to bring in younger players.

Rumours of the imminent arrival of a new centre back and centre forward were neither confirmed nor denied by Cook.

Mulumbu completes Treviso move

mulumbu6c9b2.png

West Brom midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu was one of 4 players to complete moves to Treviso this afternoon. He has impressed so far this season in England, but Treviso have taken a gamble with the £3 million fee which takes up nearly a 3rd of the club's budget. However, the 22 year old will be an important player this season and is set to be made captain for Saturday's game at Sassuolo.

Also joining from English sides were Dean Moxey (Derby County - £600k) and Lee Hodson (Watford - £200k). Moxey is the only outfield player to play every minute at Derby this year and was the top target for Treviso, whilst Hodson has made 12 starts this season after making his debut in the last game of the 2008/09 season. The 4th signing was Dynamo Kyiv defender Yevhen Khacheridi, who has been a regular for them so far this season, for £1 million.

Treviso have agreed deals for another 9 players and they should complete moves in the next 24 hours.

Pisa Calcio Beat Highley Rated Serie B Side U.S.Lecce

Both sides under new management as new Pisa Calcio boss Nick Justice met one of the faviourtes for Promotion U.S.Lecce managed by James Prike. The managers had mutal respect for each other however they both really wanted the win, when Justice took over they ahd just 8 players, however he managed to get a few more players registerd to be able to field a full team with 5 subs. He Currently has a team of 21, 3 are on-loan 6 are Goalkeepers and the others outfielders, so its still a team very much in progress. Lecce have new faces like Ermin Zec, Anes Haurdic, Tomislav Barbaric and others along wiht a decent side to base his team around, so it was quiet obvious on paper whose squad techinically speaking is more stronger in more ways than one, however as the old saying goes ' Football isn't won on paper'

Lecce had the kick-off, and straight from the off they looked up for the game after just two minutes Munari hit the side netting, Giving Pisa a scare early on. However from the goalkeepers long kick up field, on loan FC Twente Forward Ransford Osei had a strike on goal but it went inches wide much to the delight of the Lecce Fans behind the goal. Both sides had their chances early on, but no goals came within the first 25 minutes. Then a moment of magic as Centre Back Edoardo Braiati went on a darting run upfield and put the ball past Lecce Goalkeeper Rosati leaving him mesmorised, the goalkeeper was annoyed at how he managed to run past nearly his whole team. From Lecce's 2nd kick-off, they played the ball too Munari who had a shot from 25 yards which rattled the crossbar and nearly knocked down the goal, what a goal that would have been! but after that the Lecce team fell asleep as Pisa managed to get themselves a second goal in a charge up field from on-loan Arsenal midfielder Fran Merida played a ball too new winger Henrik Mkhitaryan slotted home an easy goal 2-0 to Pisa, A great start 2-0 up after just 35 minutes. Despite chances from both sides in the second half 2-0 was how it would all end with a game dominated on possession by Pisa Calcio and shots aswell, however still an evenish contest, but Pisa will be the happier as will new boss Justice out of the two. Serie B MoM award went to Pisa Goalkeeper Davide Morello who had a great game keeping Pisa in it in the second and first half.

After the game we cuaght up with Pisa Calcio boss Nick Justice;here is what he had to say on Pisa and the match, "I'm delighted that we managed to pull off a great win against a stronger side than ourselves, it gives a ray of belief to both the team and the fans. At the moment my team is still in mid construction and still has a long way to go till it becomes a complete squad, weve requested more money from SMFA we will see how the verdict turns out on Monday (Hopefully). So far we have managed to bring in some very talented players and I would like to thank Arsenal, FC Twente and Internazionale for the loans. We currently have 6 goalkeepers and I have told 3 of them that their future is not at the club and they will be sold and they were more than ok with it as they knew their age was the main reason and will be looking for new clubs as I signed 3 new young and very talented goalkeepers. I have my targets and next time we speak I will tell you who I intend on brining to Pisa!"

Port_Vale.jpg

Tales from the Vale!

New Port Vale manager Craig Johnson has been to many a place in his distinguished career, but his new surroundings couldn't be any different to the glamourous places he's managed before.

Port Vale, regarded a footballing backwater by many, have been struggling for many a year now, with low budgets and average teams the fans were seemingly consigned to the fact they would be amongst football mediocrity for the forseeable future - not any more as Johnson punches above his weight in the transfer market to bring in some of the worlds best young (and largely unknown in some cases) talent. His aim, "Division one and beyond" in his words - a large feat, but he has clear ideas on how it should be done - "bring in youth and watch them grow as we climb the divisions"

Johnson has been true to his words, and some of the players brought in could certainly be Division 1 players if they hit their potential:

INS:

41232_1258128183.jpg

Messias Manoel - 19/77/CB - £1m from Atletico Paranaense

The Centre back had broken into the first team at Para when the call came from Johnson. He jumped at the chance to join and ambitious club and manager in Johnson

41227_1256348811.jpg

Neto Berola - 21/75/fwd - £500k from Vitoria.

In and around the squad at Vitoria, but a player Johnson believes will be an excellent addition to the cause.

32984_1250610794.jpg

Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik - 20/75/def - £500k from Le Havre

Kana-Biyik had broken into the 1st team at Le Havre, and Johnson intervened early in order to get him in cheap. His flexibility and ability to play aross the backline was also a massive plus for Johnson.

39542_1251408857.jpg

Herold Goulon - 21/76/DM/CM - £1.5m from Le Mans

A player Johnson considered a must buy after his breakthrough into the Le Mans team, Johnson beat off competition from Bordeaux to land his man.

39421_1251293286.jpg

Alan Gatagov - 18/77/DM/def - £1m from Lokomotiv Moskva

Arguably Johnson's most exciting signing, Gatagov was playing regularly for the Moscow based side, but the new manager there obviously didn't rate him or know much about him and Johnson took full advantage of that.

There's one more deal in the pipeline involving a young AM which could be completed today, which will leave Johnson's squad complete for the time being, more due to budget restrictions than anything.

But, with the quality already brought in, it's hard to see past Johnson's new look, youthful and exciting lineup for the Division 5 title.

Only one player has left up to now, Paul Marshall left for Division one to Stoke City for a paltry £20k, Johnson hopes the likes of Gatagov will be lining up against him soon, and not just in cup games!

Pisa Calcio Victorious Again, This Time Its Triestina

It was just the second game of the season for Justice as Pisa, and he faced this time a Very strong Triestina side managed by Daz Mac, who is also a good friend of the Pisa Head coach, Triestina coming into the game on an opening day victory as did Pisa, both sides looked forward to this game in what was set to be a very good battle between two of Serie B's okay teams. Triestina looked the stronger of the teams heading into the game. It was going to be undoutidly a very competitive and close game. Before the game we found out that Both sides reverted to a basic 4-4-2 system.

Kick-off arrived and it was to be Pisa Calcio who had the kick from the off. From this they took their first chance and it was from Armenian Winger Henrik Mkhitaryan, moments later Triestina also had a chance but Della Roca couldnt quiet finish in front of goal. Then Triestina's oyung Brazilian star Toloi began to put pressure on the Pisa defence pushing forward towards the box. The match commenced on and it was a ver y even contest and then just over a third of the way through a stuttuling shot from Armenian Winger Henrik Mkhitaryan from 25 yards rattled the bar and had the goalkeeper beaten but couldnt get it into the goal. Nearing a Goaless first half a striker from Ransford Osei was clean through one on one and hit put it about 2 inches wide of the post. The ref blew for half time and the teams go in at the interval goaless. The referee and the officials got ready for the second half , the second half began. It was much the same as the first, both sides with their chances and a very tight contest, we couldnt see a way through either goalkeeper today. When with just half an hour to go, Federico Viviani balsted a goal in for Pisa putting them one goal to the good and what a strike it was!, 1-0 Pisa. The momentum of the goal seemed to give the away side the upper in the game with them dominating which led to another goal from Edoardo Braiati in the 70th minute after a mix up in Triestina's midfield slots a low shot home past the Goalkeeper to give Pisa a great advantage with 20 minutes left. in the end it ended up 2-0 in a very close game with the MOM award going to Edoardo Braiati. Despite his injury late on, which doesnt look to serious.

After the game we caught up with Pisa boss Nick Justice here is what he had to say about the game, " It was a great game a very evenly matched game. At times we were lucky however we took advantage of some mistakes made by Triestina and capitalised and we made it count and also my team gave a great performance, and I hope they continue to do well and we can do well this season, its still very early days and things will still change in many ways. I can also comfirm a bid has been accepted for Mendes Elias from Corinthians for and Undisclosed fee, we hope he will join up with us tommorow. We manged to get £5million from the SMFA Board after we sufferd from lack of funds and we have sold a player and also many still set leave us over the coming days."

Pisa Sign Brazilian Star Mendes Elias

Today Italian Serie B side Pisa Calcio comfirmed that they had signed Brazilian Midfielder Mendes Elias from Corinthians for a record fee of £8,000,000 (£8million). The 24 year old is highly rated within Brazil and Corinthians and has now decided to venture away from the South American nation and persue his footballing career within Italy, but he decided to to choose the best of the best but Pisa Calcio, after they offerd him a good deal.

Justice said this when we caught up with him after the comfirmination of the deal, " I am delighted to have signed Mendes hes a very talented player and one of the best we know have at the club and I know I shedded out a massive £8million for him however, I believe that he is worth every penny and I am glad to have him here after trying to sign him for a while!"
