Re: Official Arsenal Thread

Yeah!!!!!!!! this should spice things up!

Can't wait till he pulls off World Class saves/kicks the toss off our CBs, pees on the post and challenge fans to a fist fight while walking back from a game:p throw cold water over mad cap Refs and their assistant, handbag Drogba,Middle fingering the crowd while scratching his head, rip those Snood s off our pretty boys before FiFa does...

Oh man this is going to be awesome-if this does not liven up some of the sourpusses here..well I never

Can we get OTHER emergency players?! A old but reliable CB,DM winger and CF.:D

Re: Official Arsenal Thread

Lansbury scored tonight for Norwich, thats 4 goals now.

I Remember saying a few months back when wenger said that he will be a Arsenal 1st Teamer, that i wouldnt welcome it as he wouldnt make it Arsenal, Great little player but i would think he would make it at a mid table team, he could well prove me wrong now.

Re: Official Arsenal Thread

Lehman is crazier than Charlie Sheen. Not sure he would be a positive influence on the team to be honest.

Its what we need right now-the X factor (well more like Z) but hope its livens up the games a bit.

The guys at the Guardian get it right yet again:

"Gallas lost the position 14 games into the 2008-09 season, when Fábregas was appointed. Although only 21, the Catalan was clearly the club's outstanding performer. But given that there were already rumours linking him to a return to Barcelona, it was impossible to escape the thought that Wenger had once again given the armband to a player he wanted to flatter into staying.

"Like Henry and Gallas, Fábregas has not been an effective captain. Injuries have limited his appearances, and he has sometimes tried to return from them too soon."

We don't need a forward, a goalkeeper, a defender, or a midfielder. We need a leader.

Re: Official Arsenal Thread

lol guys read the link again...

The Swiss Football Association said the 24-year-old's problem was not as bad as first feared and that he was confident of returning to action this month.

But Arsenal told BBC Sport this was "inaccurate" and that the centre-back would see a specialist on Thursday.

The club expect the Swiss international to undergo surgery and to be ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.

Re: Official Arsenal Thread

Anyway its a bit ridiculous to believe Djourou is the answer to any of the problems the gunners face, he is one of the glass/biscuit men lots of people moan on and on about.

If Squillaci plays so be it-he is strong in the air and on the ground, Squillaci reads the game well and is adept at snuffing out danger with a well-timed tackle. He boasts presence at set-pieces at both ends of the pitch. His lack of pace is worrying though and his passing.

I really don't fancy him-but the short term problem gentleman is that we have stopped scoring freely-we can't defend a 1-0 or a 2-0 maybe even 3-0 lead a la blackpool, so we need the team to trust in our sputtering offence.

Goal Margin Games Won Games Lost

1 goal margin --------7 ----- 4

2 goal margin ----- 4 -------- 1

3 goal margin ------ 5 ------- 0

4 goal margin ------ 0 --------- 0

5+ goal margin ----- 1 --------- 0

Squillaci is none of those things. Him and Koscielny together for an extended period of time is nothing short of a catastrophe and doesn't so much hammer the final nail into the coffin, more dumps 2 tonnes of earth on it.

well I think we will-the main reason being if they don't , there is a high probability that the Wengers experiments over-not his replacement btw thats for him to decide but his policy etc. A number of players may be shown the door and next year I doubt it if we make it into the top 3. So there is a lot riding on this -more than any other year I figure.

Btw Wenger has heard you guys wanting a Mad cap Viera like DM so Jens will be playing in that position replacing Diaby..

I echo this, the stats show you with Squillaci and Koscielny at the back we will lose games. Don't see us winning the league now, 2nd is the best we can get.

Re: Official Arsenal Thread

It sickens me to see that Spurs have Gomes, Woodgate, Dawson, Gallas, King and co. in their defensive array when we're so poor defensively - sure King's as injury prone as a kitten in a bearpit, but he's better (as a CB) than the majority of our lot when fully fit. The price hike in season tickets (Arsenal - the highest £/Trophy side in the world to watch regularly ) just gives us even more funds - and Wenger's lost the plot if he thinks this team can win honours - it's proven that it isn't up to the job, the issues are blindingly obvious, so irregardless of your out of date transfer policy, fix the problem Wenger.

We need top class CB cover - Vermaelen's injury coupled with poor defensive performances will leave us disappointed when he come sback only to not be the world's best CB. The Belgian's been talked up so much in his absence (although he's still wildly preferable to any other CB at Arsenal) to a point where we've overrated him and stuck him on a pedestal - Thomas is by no menas a great CB, he's very, very good though and the best we have. I still want one better than him though:

Vermaelen: Our best CB and a definite starter when he's fit, great in the air for a midget and a solid all round performer who gives as much as he can to the team. A real fighter and in a class of his own in the CB department.

Koscielny: IMO our second best CB. Horribly inconsistent, but when he's in the right gear he can churn out outstanding performances. IMO he's fit for a '1st Sub' position. Get over the fact that you paid £6.5m for him, other sides have players who cost £15m+ who do nothing but bench, spend the money and fix our CB problem.

Djourou: Reminds me of my favourite 'Arsenal target', Per Mertesacker. Imagine Mertesacker, but slightly or drastically worse in every way. The lad's done an admirable job filling in the hole of Vermaelen, and people rave about his aerial performance, but for a player his height he's average at the back in the air, can be beaten for pace by my Granda, and in a system that fairly regularly uses the offside trap, is next to useless. As much as I like the Swiss, I wouldn't shed any tears if he did a Senderos off to another club.

Squillaci: Ah, the Frenchman who's got it all - years of experience, CL experience, a leader's head, international caps - he's got it all. Unfortunately 'it' must've stayed at Sevilla in the Summer. Squilli has been the main man on literally just a couple of occasions at the back for us, and has been wrror prone and poor for the majority of the season. We ought to ditch him and be thankful for one name off the wage bill - Kosh and Johan ought to get ahead of this guy and when I saw the Leyton Orient match is was hard to believe that he has a decade more experience than Ignasi Miquel. Cut our (petty) losses and send him on his way to a Ligue Un club who'd more than gladly take him off our hands.

Miquel: Want this guy to be on the bench for every game. For a young buck he's got a wise head on him and has given a good impression of himself in his taster of starts for the club. He cna be a long term starter for us, and I eblieve that he ought to get minutes under his belt to avoid washing up like a Justin Hoyte/Havard Nordtveit. Lad's a keeper.

Want one (or two if I'm on happy pills on a Friday in OptimismLand) of:

Mertesacker (£12m<), Sakho (£13-15m, unlikely as he's just signed a contract extension), Vertonghen (£10-12m), Dominguez/Musacchio (£12m+) Pepe (£17-20m, unlikely), Alves (£10m) or Gabby Milito (£8-10m).

Would love one of Hummels, Subotic or the like, but they're a dream signing that's beyond unrealistic, plus I want us to stay clear of the overpriced Englishmen (Cahill/Jagielka, £15m!?) and Tasci, who I don't rate any more.

I think he would. He's certainly better than Koscielny/Djourou. Wouldn't mind Agger, but I wouldn't even think to consider his arrival.
