CSKA 0-0 Hamburger SV

In a match when absolutely nothing happened, the only thing CSKA could take out of the game was the injury to Hamburger striker Benni McCarthy, which should make life more difficult for the Germans, who are one of CSKA's promotion rivals.

CSKA Moskva - Cup Game Report

CSKA 6-0 Sampdoria

CSKA's good run in the WC2 Shield continues with another thumping victory, this time over struggling Sampdoria, who had managed to get a draw with CSKA earlier this season in the league.

The first goal came after 20 minutes. Some smart work with his feet allowed Carlos Vela to score his first goal for the club.

Vela - on loan from Juventus - then got his second four minutes later. With the goalmouth wide open, Vela only had to smash the ball into the net, which he did.

The quick double-whammy rattled the Italians, and they conceded another five minutes later. Josip Tadic was controversially deemed onside by the linesman, and the Croatian raced through to score.

Tadic got his second, and CSKA's fourth after only 35 minutes. Craig Gordon in the Sampdoria goal could only parry a powerful CSKA shot, and Tadic was there to convert the rebound.

Into the second half, and the home side continued to dominate. They were rewarded on 51 minutes when Tadic bagged his hat-trick. A terrific through-ball found the 20 year-old, and he finished well.

The match went through a brief quiet spell for 27 minutes, but with 78 minutes played, Tadic did well to hit a terrific header and score.

All in all, a good day for CSKA's reserves. The younger players - including debutees Martin Paterson and Daniel Fox - were at the top of their game, and mixed in well with the more experienced players. Given his performance today, it looks like the £3.5million spent on Tadic by Lee Bradbury five seasons ago is turning out to be a genial bargain.

Away to Cruzeiro, River Plate dominated the play and got their just reward in the end thanks to a 24th minute goal from Maximiliano Pereira. After an eventful first half in which River's Johan Micoud, and Cruzeiro's Johan Elmander both missed open goals, the second half did not live up to the excitement of the first.

River Plate had the lion's share of the possession and restricted Cruzeiro to a couple of long range shots in the second half, while not managing to create much themselves.

282.gif 2 - 2 163.gif

River Plate's home clash with Spanish giants Real Madrid was an eventful one. Hugo Almeida put River ahead after only 2 minutes with a terrific volley. River then looked as if they might run away with the tie when Hugo Almeida struck again after 9 minutes to make it 2-0. However, Real signalled their intentions when Rafael Sobis struck the post in the 20th minute.

The turning point of the match came just 4 minutes later when, much to River's amazement, the linesman did not flag Rafael Sobis despite him being clearly offside. Rafael Sobis proceeded to tuck the ball into the net to start Real's fight back. River Plate continued to pepper Pal Robinson's goal with shots, but could not find a way past him.

Rafael Sobis struck again shortly into the second half to level the scores wit a confidently taken finish. Hugo Almeida tried in vain to complete his hat trick, coming close on a few occassions. In the 83rd minute Christian Benitez was given his second yellow card and his marching orders for abusive language.

River dumped out of the Shield by classy Juve

110.gif 2 - 2 282.gif

River Plae were knocked out of the World Champ Shield in the 3rd round by a star-studded Juve side. River created chances in the first half, but neither side could find a breakthrough. Goals from Fernando Torres and Van Der Vaart put Juve 2 goals up in the second half, and there looked to be no way back. An Eidur Gudjohnsen header in the 80th minute gave River some hope, but it wasn't to be.

River manager, Logan, commented after the game that he thought his players had tried their best, but Juve were the better team.

Transfer News

River Plate are pleased to announce the signing of Argentinian hitman German Denis. Denis was signed for £14M from Division 2 rivals Everton. Although not featuring much for Everton this season his record of 2 goals and 3 assists in the 4 starts he's made is impressive. The River Plate fans are hoping he can bring this kind of form with him.

Everton brushed a lack luster Shakhtar Donetsk aside tonight with a 4-1 win at Goodison Park.

Malbranque returned from fitness and straight into the starting line up with Lilian Thuram also available.

In form Roque Santa Cruz started the slaughter off in the 12th minute as he beat the offside trap to slot it under the keeper. Cruz's goal was his 6 of the campaign and it didn't take long for Everton to get into their stride. However, minutes later, Ludovik Obraniak pulled Donetsk level with a simple shot.

In his debut game, the ball was gifted on a plate to Cristiano Lucarelli who had no trouble slotting the ball into the net. Lucarelli who has hit 12 in 16 games for Werder Bremen, got his second minutes into the second half when he dropped his shoulder past the defender and slotted it into the top right corner for 3-1.

The Toffee's put the game to bed when Steed Malbranque found himself in acre's of space and blasted it from 32 yards past the desparing keeper.

All in all an easy night for Toffee's who keep the pressure on Logan's River Plate.

Their next game is at against mid table Portuguese outfit Benfica, whilst River Plate are at the Emirates against strugglers Arsenal.

A convincing 6-1 victory against Villareal keeps River Plate top of the table. The win made River's recent record up to 4 wins and draw in their last five games. Free-scoring River Plate have scored 25 goals in their last five matches, conceding only 6!

Eidur Gudjohnsen opened the scoring in the 6th minute after latching onto a poor back-pass. Another defensive mix-up allowed German Denis to grab his 5th goal in 5 games since joining from title rivals Everton. River Plate went into the break 2-0 up.

The second half had barely started before River Plate killed the game off. A header from the division's runaway top goal-scorer Hugo Almeida, and a long range strike from Pranjic saw River 4-0 up after 53 minutes. Hugo Almeida and Gudjohnsen both added another goal to their tally before a consolation goal for Villareal by Garcia Roger.

River look forward to Title Challenge

River Plate are now in a great position to get promoted and manager, Logan, has stated that they are now looking beyond promotion to the possibility of winning the title. However, Sam Wainwright's Everton have kept pace with them throughout their current run of good form and any slip-up by River Plate will see them overtaken.

Not sure what is happening with Athletic Bilbao - seem to be a team possessed lately.

Back to back promotions the last two seasons and 20 games unbeaten at the moment!!

Beat Division 1 league leaders tonight with my reserves (to be fair he was playing his as well) and am in the Quarter Final of the cup and am somehow in third place in the league behind him and Barca!!

River Plate slip to 2nd as Everton gain momentum

River Plate have been knocked off the top spot in division 2 by an in-form Everton side. River have won 1 and drawn 2 of their last 3 games, but the draws have proved costly as Everton have overtaken them as league leaders. River Plate still boast an impressive 16 game unbeaten record in the league, but need to turn some of the draws into wins if they are to stand a chance of winning the league.

Match Reports

1.gif 0 - 1 282.gif

A 5th minute header from Moya Marc Torrejon was enough to win this hard fought encounter. The first half was pretty uneventful aside from a close-range howler of a miss from Gudjohnsen. In contrast the 2nd half was packed with action as both teams tried in vain to score. All in all a good win for River Plate, but the game could have gone either way.

104.gif 4 - 4 282.gif

This has to go down as a wasted opportunity for River Plate, as well as an inspired comeback for Chievo. The first half was all River Plate, aided by the dismissal of Chievo's Kevin Hofland for a horror tackle in the 6th minute. Minutes later Hugo Almeida popped up at the far post to score with his head. A poor backpass from Josep Simunic allowed Serhiy Nazarenko in to score an equaliser for Chievo.

Germain Denis sent the crowd wild with a wonderful run and scorching shot to make it 2-1 to River Plate. With Chievo harldy having a sniff of the ball Daniel Pranjic found the net just before half-time to send River in 3-1 up.

The second half began as the first had ended, with River Plate dominant, and when Daniel Jensen head home in the 52nd minute it looked all over. Even when a 2nd defensive mistake of the game allowed Josiel to score, River still looked comfortable. It all fell apart when Tekke Fatih managed to poke home a loose ball to narrow River's advantage to only 4-3. Almost immediately after the restart Josep Simunic dived in on Fatih and was shown his second yellow and his marching orders. Chievo came at River with renewed confidence and were rewarded with a late equaliser as Pascal Berenguer curled home a peach of a strike from fully 25 yards.

282.gif 0 - 0 192.gif

Today saw two unwanted firsts for River Plate. The first 0-0 draw of the season and the first league game in which River had failed to score. A dull and lifeless encounter ended goalless and with River Plate slipping to 2nd place in the league.

Transfer News

River Plate are pleased to announce the signing of Spanish starlet Aguinaga Javi Martinez from Benfica for a fee of £7.3M.

Chelsea World Champ 2 Major 3 Season Update

3 more seasons have gone by since my last report on life in WC2 and I think its an appropriate time to advertise the setup and give an update to the long time members of this fantastic setup.

The take over of Chelsea from Atletico Madrid has had a huge impact on the success of Danny Williams in this sacred setup but still has unfairly managed to keep him away from the first honor.

The first season (5) wasn't a happy ending for Danny as Chelsea just avoided relegation and Atletico finished higher. This can't be accused as fault of Williams as 2 games isn't enough to bring anyone up the table.

ChelseaWc2-1.jpg

The transfers were rolling in with Van Persie, Adebayor, Sagna and others while other players left for the Spanish capital.

For season 6 many players boosted the depth of the team and F.Meira,Vagner Love,Gomes and Elmander made that clear.

The season began well for once and a steady mid season made it possible to gain the honor of league champion. Top for a few months made it all seem real but Inter and Barca managed to pip us to the top two

.

ChelseaWc2-2.jpg

Danny wasn't happy at all and building to win the league started towards the end of the season with long term target Wesley Sneijder joining the ranks with the unfortunate consolation of Dortmund seeing Samir Nasri join up.

680491_mediumsquare.jpg

Early in the 7th season many top class managers dropped out the likes of Greig,Ross,Ash,Nav,harry and Mr Farine leaving the best setup on SM to Dan,Matt,Me,Lee,Teb,Ivan,Sam,Bobo and George.

Although a lot was great to see ;

Teb claiming promotion to Division 1,Lee looking to gain promotion to Division 2, George sticking it out with Marseille and Dan taking over a very special club Juventus and Matt looking to improve on Dan's magic at Porto.

Chelsea's start was very average and the mid season mediocre. The end to the season is very good and a top 4 finish is looking possible.

ChelseaWc2-3.jpg

Ryan Babel,Luka Modric, and Theo Walcott were the key men at the beginning of the season but unfortunately didn't manage to get off the mark in the first time squad. They made a name for themselves in the cup but tebs men at Bilbao once again halted the celebrations of an honor at the Semi's. Hleb leaving for Porto may give Babel his chance but only time will tell.

_44259511_babel_getty.jpg

Late in the season the one man Danny has wanted for his clubs finally made his move. Rafael Van Der Vaart. Modric and Flamini left to Juve after a poor season and Rafael quickly made his mark against Teb's Bilbao and gave me a very special unexpected victory over the rivals from Spain. The seasons only real highlight.

ChelseaWc2-4.jpg

rafael-van-der-vaart.jpg

Shortly after defeating Teb in this thrilling encounter we got what is believed to be a steal in Bafe Gomis with Frings leaving.

gomis.jpg

With Harry back things looked to be improving for the setups sake, but when two very important members of the setup were in my opinion unfairly banned it made me think this setup needs some new blood!

Thanks for taking the time to read, hope you enjoyed this one

:)...Oh and join!

btw I already did this but lost it all

Re: World Championship 2 MKII

If you're a Charlton fan, there's one free in Divison 3. Good squad too, pushing for promotion, gave me a tough time earlier this season.

Speaking of promotion, I'm 3rd with two games left, and can go as high as second. However, I'm only 3 points off 4th, and prone to slip-ups at this stage. :)

Re: World Championship 2 MKII

Too late to get Charlton, and only Hibs who are dropping to division four are free. I noticed a few managers haven't been on in a while so I may try and poach their clubs with the 30 day logging in rule. If anyone has a club they don't want, or know someone who would kindly give me their team (even for a standard setup or something) then PM me please.

Shouldn't have left Cruzeiro B)

Re: World Championship 2 MKII

Somehow gone to 4th and the impossible is now possible ;)

1 Aston Villa 37 23 6 8 81 40 41 75

2 Spartak Moskva 37 23 6 8 69 33 36 75

3 Sporting 37 19 6 12 57 48 9 63

------------------------------------------

4 MARSEILLE 37 16 12 9 56 40 16 60

With Sporting losing their past 2 games, and with me taking 11 points from the last 5 games, I now find myself just 3 points off promotion. :)

With a better goal difference, a win for Marseille over Bolton and defeat for Sporting who play Rangers will see the French side go up.

Ladies and Gentlemen, today is a special day. Why? I'll tell you why...

cskaxr9.jpg

CSKA Moskva finally back in Division 2!

Last night's 4-0 win at Werder Bremen was enough to seal promotion to the second tier after 6 seasons out. An early goal from midfield maestro Evgeni Aldonin and a hat-trick from Juve loanee Nery Castillo sealed the historic feat.

However, the club still want to win there final game against Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday to be in with a chance of finishing in second place.

Manager Lee Bradbury said "I'm thrilled, absolutely over the moon. My first two season here saw us finish fourth both times, and now on my return we've gone one better and got promoted. It's all that the club deserve, and I reckon we've got what it takes to survive, and survive well, next season.

I need a celebratory pie. :D

WE'RE GOING UP!

On saturday night Everton were told they will be playing Division 1 football next season. The Toffees, who needed a win or a draw at the Parc des Princes against Paris Saint-Germain managed a deserved 1-1 draw with the 2nd place and also promoted French giants.

In the first half it was all PSG, shots from Suarez, Guiza and Luduena came exceedingly close to opening the scoring. It didn't take long for a goal in fact, as after 15 minutes Daniel Guiza hit his 12th of the season for Paris and a great start from PSG worried Everton manager Sam Wainwright.

Everton tried to get into the game almost straight away but a shot from Cristiano Lucarelli hit the outside of the post and rolled into touch.

At half time Everton looked lethargic and uninspiring.

The start of the second half brought out a different Everton team, though with the same players, their was more of an attacking prowess about them.

A cross from Dmitri Loskov was headed towards goal by Goal machine Roque Santa Cruz, only for it to brush the top of the bar. Another shot from Lucarelli minutes later was cleared off the line and Saint-Germain looked edgy.

Finally Everton hauled their way back into the game as a lovely pass by Luís Nani was blasted home by Dmitri Loskov, the 34 year old's 4th of the season.

Minutes later Loskov was kicking himself after missing an almost identical chance.

Lucarelli could've had a hat trick today as his last shot struck the bar, an overall dissapointing performance from him.

Everton were deserved of their point and didn't deserve any more or any less.

With the draw Everton and Paris Saint-Germain are guaranteed Division 1 football next season along with 1st place River Plate. Everton travel to 10th place Espanyol on Wednesday and are expected to field a weaker team in order to keep their players fit for Division 1 next season.

THURAM WINS EPOTS

thuram.jpg

Lilian Thuram was last night honoured with picking up Everton's player of the Season. The ex-Barcelona and Juventus legend has played a total of 174 games for Everton since joining from Juventus in 2006. The defender has featured in every game bar 14 in his 2 year Everton career. Thuram picked it up for "Fantastic contribution and a great team player".

Lilian told SMSport: "It's an honour winning this and I don't think I deserve it, I think the whole team deserve it this season, a lot of managers doubted us this season, but we've proved a point and I'd like to congratulate us on that."

Manager Sam Wainwright added: "Lilian has been sheer class this season, a lot of my players have been superb this season but Lilian is just a deserved winner."

Roque Santa Cruz was a close second after scoring 13 goals and 14 assists in his first season with the Toffees, 3rd place Luís Nani scored a fantastic 9 goals in 15 games with 5 assists.

Re: World Championship 2 MKII

I thought I'd do a quick round-up of all unresolved promotion/relegation issues before the last game of the season, so here goes.

DIVISION 1

With Barelona having run away with the league this year, the only thing to be decided is who goes down. Fenerbahce and Corinthians are already relegated, but anyone of 3 teams could join them.

Currently in the relegation zone are Bayern Munich on 39 points and they play host to another of the relegation candidates, Lyon, who also have 39 points, albeit with a superior goal difference. A win for Bayern would see them safe, with Lyon going down, whilst defeat would condemn Bayern to division 2.

If Bayern and Lyon draw then Roma could be drawn into the relegation scrap. Roma currently sit on 40 points, but their goal difference is vastly inferior to both Bayern and Lyon, and they could be relegated if Bayern and Lyon draw, and they lose their match to Barcelona.

DIVISION 2

River Plate, Paris Saint-German, and Everton have all achieved promotion to the top-flight, whilst Valencia, AZ Alkmaar, and Panathanaikos have been relegated to division 3.

So with the promotion and relegation spots all settled for Division 2 all that remains is to crown the champions. River Plate are in pole position on 78 points, while Paris Saint-German have 76 points. River's superior goal difference means that they only require a draw to be crowned champions, while PSG have to rely on Udinese doing them a favour against River, and beat Newcastle away.

River Plate are confident they can achieve the point they need, but Udinese are in great form at the moment, winning 5 of their last 6 games. In contrast PSG face a Newcastle side who've only won 1 of their last 6. Neither River or PSG's current form is great, both sides having won only 2 of their last 6.

DIVISION 3

PSV have finished as champions of division 3, whilst Fiorentina and CSKA Moskva have also been rewarded with promotion for their efforts. At the bottom of the table both Hibernian and fallen German giants Werder Bremen have been relegated. That leaves one relegation spot.

The two teams vying to avoid relegation to division 4 are Dinamo Moskva, who presently hover just above the relegation zone with 38 points, and Liverpool, just a point behind on 37. Liverpool's goal difference is significantly worse than Dinamo's, which means that Liverpool need to win and hope Dinamo lose if they are to stay up.

Dinamo host Besiktas who secured their safety with their only win in 6 against hapless Hibernian. Liverpool meanwhile must travel to Manchester City, and with both teams failing to win in their last 4 this could go either way.

DIVISION 4

Parma have the dubious honour of being the worst team in WC2 thanks largely due to a lack of firepower providing a meager 30 goals thus far. Both Aston Villa and Spartak Moskva are guaranteed to be playing their football in division 3 next season, and both are competing for the title. The remaining promotion spot is contested by Sporting and Marseille.

Aston Villa and Spartak Moskva both have 75 points apiece, but Villa's goal difference has them in pole position for the title. Coincidentally the top two teams face the bottom two on the final day. Villa travel to Mallorca, whilst Spartak will welcome the aforementioned Parma to the Luzhniki stadium. Spartak must do better than Villa to clinch the title, whilst Villa only need to equal Spartak's efforts. Spartak are the team in form with 11 points from a possible 18, whilst Villa have only managed a measly 2 points from 18, without a win in their last 6 games.

The other remaining promotion spot is currently occupied by Sporting who are 3 points clear of the other contenders, Marseille. Sporting look odds on to gain promotion, but Marseille's better goal difference gives them a fighting chance of stealing promotion from under Sporting's nose.

Sporting are away to a Rangers team currently in decent form and would only need a draw to keep their fate in their own hands. Marseille are at home to a Bolton team who have done surprisingly well this season given their lack of any star players and their small squad. Whilst Sporting are in the driver's seat going into the game they have not won in the last 3 games, and Marseille are on a roll winning their last 3 games and scoring 8 goals in the process.

Re: World Championship 2 MKII

Now my lowdown of WC2 Division 1

180.gif

Ajax

Stadium: Amsterdam Arena

Manager: Ruud_17*

Top Scorer: David Trezeguet: 69 (25)

With players like David Trezeguet, Allesandro Del Piero, Montolivo and Guti, Ajax are a fairly attacking minded and strong team, a fairly experienced manager means that they have good brains too, I think with the signings they have bought in so far this season, they are strengthening the youth squad as I can only really see Ferreira Jussie and Rodriguez Oscar Seranno getting regular starts for Ajax this season. All in all a good team with a top 10 finish.

Predicted Position: 9th.

138.gif

Athletic Bilbao

Stadium: San Mamés

Manager: tebthereb

Top Scorer: Adrian Mutu 73 (2)

Adrian Mutu and Torsten Frings run this outfit like clockwork, But the main tick behind it, is Manager tebthereb, got Bilbao promoted twice in 2 years and came 5th in Division 1 last season, the backbone of the team Steve has saved Bilbao from bottom table Division 3. Good chance for the title this season and will be looking to start off well.

Predicted Position: 3rd

139.gif

Atlético Madrid

Stadium: Vicente Calderón

Manager: Dusan Krazic

Top Scorer: Kevin Kuranyi 31 (2)

Madrid have been a mid table team for the past 4 years, I can't see them battling for the title at all this season, Mascherano, Kuranyi and Demichelis have it in them to shine for Madrid but I think the fact that their new manager is unexperienced aswell, I think Madrid may have to fight to stay up.

Predicted Position: 16th

140.gif

Barcelona

Stadium: Camp Nou

Manager: Paco Gonzalez

Top Scorer: David Villa 68 (12)

Barcelona are arguably the best team in the world, with players like Kaka, Messi, Fabregas, Lampard and Ribery they have become back to back to back champions in the past 3 years with nobody coming close to them, I can see this season making it back to back to back to back for Barcelona with extremely experienced manager Paco Gonzalez at the helm for the past 7 years, I can see them crowned champions once again.

Predicted Position: 1st

392.gif

Borrusia Dortmund

Signal Iduna Park

Manager: Harry Memic

Top Scorer: Frederik Kanoute 48 (11)

Ronaldo, Gerrard and Cannavaro are the Backbone of Dortmund, manager Harry Memic got the German outfit promoted twice in 2 years and are now playing division 1 football. After struggling last season though, some managers doubt their chances this season, I think a top 10 finish is definately possible for this great team, as long as Manager and team commute they could be in with a shout.

Predicted Position: 5th

21.gif

Chelsea

Stadium: Stamford Bridge

Manager: Danny Williams

Top Scorer: Robin Van Persie 29 (1)

With Van Der Vaart, Toulalan, Zanetti and Van Persie, Chelsea have a powerful team at the hands of an experienced manager. Chelsea have always been title contenders from the first season onwards and prove to be a difficult team to deal with. Danny Williams has his team the way he wants them now with the signings of Niklas Bendtner and Rafael Van Der Vaart, But we shall see.

Predicted Position: 4th

31.gif

Everton

Stadium: Goodison Park

Manager: Sam Wainwright

Top Scorer: da Silva Muniz Liedson 25 (3)

Returning back into Division 1, Everton will want to stay there and in signing Van Nistelrooy, Nani and Liedson, Everton have certainly tried to up their team and make them contenders to stay in Division 1, experienced manager Sam Wainwright will be trying to use it in order to have a chance of avoiding the drop. Mid table to 15th finish for me.

Predicted Position: 12th

224.gif

FC Porto

Stadium: Estádio do Dragão

Manager: Matt Phillips

Top Scorer: Diego Forlan 71 (3)

With the likes of Carragher, Forlan and Luis Fabiano in the team and Matt Phillips as the manager, FC Porto are in with a shout this season for me, as strong as Dortmund in most departments I feel that Dortmund and Porto may have to battle it out for the top 4 places. In all fairness I feel that Dortmund possess the slightly stronger chance of that.

Predicted Position: 6th

109.gif

Internazionale

Stadium: Giuseppe Meazza

Manager: David Moura

Top Scorer: Samuel Eto'o 59 (0)

For me, the only other club who can stop Barcelona running away with a 4th sucessive title are David Moura's Internazionale. Players such as Eto'o, Francesco Totti and John Terry possess the ability to help Inter reach the top as they have done for years. New signing Gianluca Zambrotta will be a fantastic addition to their already superb defence, top 2 finish without a doubt.

Predicted Position: 2nd

110.gif

Juventus

Stadium: Stadia Delle Alpi

Manager: Jeyla Munye

Top Scorer: Fernando Torres 59 (2)

Juve are a puzzling team. The best and biggest team on paper with the likes of Robinho, Torres and Tevez, but for the past 3 years have under performed since the loss of manager Navdeep Sandhu. Rookie Jeyla Munye has taken over and I hope he does well but I cannot see Juve putting up a challenge this season.

Predicted Position: 7th

More Later :)

Re: World Championship 2 MKII

Ronaldo' date=' Gerrard and Cannavaro are the Backbone of Dortmund, manager Harry Memic got the German outfit promoted twice in 2 years and are now playing division 1 football. After struggling last season though, some managers doubt their chances this season, I think a top 10 finish is definately possible for this great team, [b']as long as Manager and team commute they could be in with a shout[/b].

What does travelling in to work have to with their chances? :D

And where is the write up on the rest of the teams? By that I mean my River Plate ;) . Curious to hear how you rate my chances of staying up.

On another note, if anyone has any decent (and not too old) midfielders or CBs that are 90+ and is looking to sell then I'm interested. Looking primarily for players under 30. Please!
