Re: Guide to the 2010 Brazilian season

Bernardo played a great game today in his Goias debut. Statistically the most involved player on either team, he also had the most shots, including two that Jefferson needed to pull out a great save.

Goias still have 0 points from 3 games. Horrible.

Caio and Herrera both sent off for fighting with each other.

Sport Recife continue horrible form in Serie B with a 4-1 loss to ASA, from their neighbor state of Alagoas. They are an early candidate for consecutive relegations.

Insider' date=' what do you think will be the score between Avai and Gremio. Gremio have been pretty woeful this season but they've got the players to make a difference. Your thoughts?[/quote']

Grêmio havn't exactly been woeful. They've just been injured. They have no defenders left (Fabio Santos, Neuton, Mario Fernandes, Lucio all out, and a few more). Avai have been pretty good, but Maylson is back for this one and could make a difference. 50/50 call.

Re: Guide to the 2010 Brazilian season

Fernandão is playing superbly well for Sao Paulo since moving from Goias. 4 games' date=' 4 wins, 2 goals and 3 assists.

He's already in the starting XI, I really expect an 88/89 for him next time ratings are reviewed.[/quote']

Can't see him getting 88. Look at Jean. I thought he had a great season last year, but he didn't even rise from his 87.

Jean did have a good season last year, but Hernanes, Arouca and Richarlysson outshone him. Fernandão is playing just as good as Dagoberto if not better this year. Plus, the team has very good chances of winning both the Libertadores and the National League, which, IMO, would make the SMFA slightly more generous with their reviews.

Re: Guide to the 2010 Brazilian season

Just a heads up...Not sure if anyone else is watching, but....

Corinthians X Santos right now... in a Barca X Inter-like match

  • Corinthians parking a bus and counter-attacking

  • Santos all guns blazin'

  • Elias X Ganso

  • Zezinho on the bench for Santos

  • Dentinho whining like a little girl

  • Roberto Carlos looking dangerous in counter attack

  • Santos with 65% of the possession through the first 40' despite being on the road

  • Goals being disallowed on bad calls

What more could you ask for on a lazy Sunday... ?

Game is flying by...

[*]Corinthians parking a bus and counter-attacking

Not really a lot else they can do, and I can't say I blame them. After all, they're not an attacking team really.

[*]Santos all guns blazin'

Yet not really looking overly threatening. Have missed a couple of sitters mind.

[*]Elias X Ganso

Which Ganso is winning with ease. He's spraying some great passes around as well.

[*]Zezinho on the bench for Santos

Doubt we will see him. If Santos continue to chase this, I'm not sure he would particularly add anything to the team.

[*]Dentinho whining like a little girl

Don't think he's been too bad today.

[*]Roberto Carlos looking dangerous in counter attack

He's put a couple of good balls in. Santos only have themselves to blame for the goal mind, bad keeping and poor marking, not getting goal side.

[*]Santos with 65% of the possession through the first 40' despite being on the road

As would be expected chasing a game at a club that love to sit back and protect.

[*]1 Goal was disallowed on a bad call

I corrected it for you :P was very poor linesmaning, and cost me a fair bit of money  Was a good finish also. Neymar's booking at the end was harsh as well.

I'm trying to sell interest in the game here... ;):)

Well it's better than watching France making themselves, and my bank balance, look stupid. Got Inter on as well, they just went 1-0 up at long last, now 2-0! Second time this week they've scored 2 quick fire goals.

And Corinthians restore the lead with their second shot of the game :)

Insider' date=' regarding Manoel and Dalton (both CB), will they rise in the next rating change? What are their potential in the next 2 years? Will they make it big and transfer to Europe?[/quote']

No rise for Dalton, Manoel yes. Both to keep.

perspectives on the development of MANOEL' date=' Messias and ALEX SANDRO, Lobo? Players to keep or sell?[/quote']

Both to keep.

Re: Guide to the 2010 Brazilian season

From the reports on Goal / ESPN and the like, it suggests that Santos were given a bit of a pasting. A winning team is built on a good defence, and it seems like Santos might be failing in that department for another season, however good their attack might be.

You are absolutely correct, and that's why I particularlydo not believe Santos will win the title this year. While facing lesser teams in the State Championship, Santos could easily overcome the fact they had a poor defense by shoving 4-5-6 goals on the opponents, but it's a whole different kettle fo fish. in the Brazilian League.

Just for comparision sake, during the finals of the state championship, Santos conceded 8 goals in 4 games (2 goals per game). Sao Paulo FC, who had the best GC avg. in the past four seasons of the Brazilian league, conceded an average of 0.83 goals per game - inclusing a record of 19 goals conceded in 38 games in 2007.

Santos haven't bought any players to help out the defense so far, so I expect them to have a relatively high GC avg. this year.
