Re: Guide to the 2010 Brazilian season

GLOBOESPORTE'S BEST/WORST FROM ROUND 1:

Worst Miss: Robert (Palmeiras)

Best Assist: Richarlyson (Sao Paulo)

Monkey of the Round: The ref who assisted on Botafogo's second goal.

Best Nonsense Chant: "Caio is better then Neymar" - Botafogo fans.

Worst decision: Penalty against Ronaldo Conceicao (INT) for what didn't look to be a handball, when the defender wasn't even looking.

Worst Goal: A mi ball ends up on the head of Antonio Carlos (BOT) for his first goal.

Best Save: Viafara (VIT) stopping a Robert pen. I agree, this was sensationnal.

Unluckiest player: Emerson (AVA) for accidentally kicking the ball off a Prudente striker and in. Emerson also scored 3 times on the right goal, so all is forgiven.

Goal of the Round: Caio (AVA)

Best 11: Victor (GRE), Emerson (AVA), Antonio Carlos (BOT), David (FLA), Edilson (GRE), Ze Luis (AMG), Ricardinho (AMG), Caio (AVA), Roberto Carlos (COR), Diego Tardelli (AMG), Kleber (CRU)

Worst 11: Neto (APR), Ozeia (GRE), Cassio (FLU), Paulao (PRU), Everton Silva (FLA), Tulio Souza (BOT), Marquinho (FLU), Carlos Eduardo (PRU), Julio Cesar (FLU), Denis Marques (FLA), Kleber Pereira (INT)

Vasco are a tough team to read. So many players, so little quality. Souza is in a battle with Nilton and Rafa Carioca, so 2 of those should start most of the games.

I'm not sure why Dede played, but he's def behind Titi and Martinelli on the Vasco depth chart.

The first choices are pretty much the same team that Dunga has been picking lately. I'm guessing that Nilmar is being chosen ahead of the likes of Pato for his international goalscoring form, although he is playing far better for Villareal now. Same goes for Melo, generally poor for club but excellent for country.

I can't speak for the Brazilian league as I don't see it, but nice to see Paulo Henrique in the running. How is Hernanes playing, does he have the chance of a place?

PH and Neymar have been, simply put, the two best in Brazil. Hernanes has a chance because the DM position is VERY weak. I've read a column this week from Brazil suggesting that Elias and Arouca deserve to be there more then the 4 he will take. It's probably accurate.

Why 'haha'? I read a couple of reports that say he's been pretty lively. WOuld have thought he would be 3rd or 4th choice?

Where did you read that? Truth is, when Grêmio put out a "2nd string" lineup against Atletico Goianiense this week, Roberson was still on the bench. Mithyuê, an AM, was played out of position up front with Bergson. Both Bergson and Roberson have been useless everu time I'v seen them, and with the form of Jonas and Borges, there is no way thy are breaking in.

I didn't watch the Gremio match, but every commentary I read doesn't even mention him.

Re: Guide to the 2010 Brazilian season

Insider, Walter scored today in Inter's 3-2 win against Goias. After seemingly returning to form after last year's injury nightmare, you think the kid can win back some of his hype and catch the eye of the big clubs? In other words, do you think he's worth re-buying?

Re: Guide to the 2010 Brazilian season

(1) Diego Souza ? ? ?

Meant to ask you a week or so ago, but
what the heck happened with that thug/headcase? What is the controversy ?

Is it really as simple as him flipping-off some fans who were giving him a hard time, and him refusing to apologize? Or is there something more to it than just that... ?

(2) Just finished watching Grêmio X Corinthians and now have Vasco X Palmeiras going on in the back-groud as I try to prepare for the work-week. Needless to say that neither Corinthians or Palmeiras will be mistaken with Santos anytime soon... There is no speed or offensive style with either of these teams.

(3) Grêmio X Corinthians: Corinthians threw a wet-blanket over Grêmio.

ELIAS completely bossed the entire midfield and Grêmio could get nothing going.
TBH, nobody other than Elias really impressed or stood out. That said, I did have the game going in the back-ground.

+
Poor MARIO FERNANDES.
Still being played out of position. Took more than a few good knocks. One time after getting up-ended in the air,he tried to brace his fall, and it looked like he hyper-extended his left elbow. Then battling in the corner he tried to brace himself on the ground using his right arm,and it looked like he dislocated his right shoulder. Guy didn't make it to half-time.

I could be wrong, but wasn't his shoulder the reason that he missed chunks of last season...? Who knows, this might be a chronic injury with him...

No MARIO FERNANDES and of course Grêmio's manager didn't have any defenders on the bench
, so who does he bring in...?
FERNANDO
. This is the kid that Insider talked about
and
. Considering that he's a DM he played very well @ RB. Corinthians tried to expose him playing out of position, but he more than held his own.

(4) Vasco X Palmeiras: Ho-hum...

Gotta say, this Vasco squad seems pretty intriguing.
They certainly create their chances... They owned Palmeiras in the first half, although it seems like Palmeiras are starting to create more now in the 2nd half.

NILTON for Vasco is one of the big reasons
that Palmeiras hasn't been able to get a lot going. First time seeing him, and my initial take-away is that this guy is good. Playing like a big vacuum in midfield. Every ball seems to go to him. NILTON & SOUZA started and they brought RAFAEL CARIOCA & MAGNO for both of them at the same time in the mid-2nd Half.

COUTINHO, too, looks real good, but doesn't have the body
yet to pull off what his mind/instinct is telling him to accomplish. That said, he seems like a real leader on the pitch, which is a real change from the U17s from last yr.

Nobody for Palmeiras stood out.
I can't imagine that Palmeiras have more than 5 shots this entire match. Despite the possession & shot dominance by Vasco, MARCOS was really never threatened. CX has absolutely NO ONE to work with, and the very very few chances that Palmeiras did create, he had to do all on his own.

Bottom line is
that Vasco didn't have enough to break Palmeiras down in the final third, and Palmeiras were happy with the away point.

The TV Announcer just summed this match perfectly...
"The team that couldn't shoot, and the team that couldn't shoot straight..."

I've got to do a better job picking the matches I watch...Ugh...

I've been hinting this since March. Walter is a hot buy at the moment.

1) Diego Souza. Was booed off the pitch in the Copa loss to Atletico Goianiense, he flipped off the fans then announced he was never playing for Palmeiras again. Was bound to happen. He thought he deserved more respect for being their best player when really, he hasn't done anything in a while and CX is much more useful. :D

2) Corinthians are getting Bruno Cesar ready for that holder's spot. Defederico is rumoured out to Vitoria, but B.C. is really what they are betting on at the moment.

3) Mario Fernandes was a game-time decision to start, already injured. It's always that shoulder. Gremio's list of injured wing-backs: Mario Fernandes, Neuton, Lucio, Fabio Santos. All that's left is Edilson and Bruno Collaco, and that's including the youth squad. Expect Fernando and Ferdinando to be used as backups. Great to hear Fernando did well.

4) Agree 100% to Coutinho and Nilton. And Palmeiras. And just about everything. You know Nilton was linked to Liverpool last year right?

Re: Guide to the 2010 Brazilian season

Hi' date=' how good is a certain Larangeira Danilo of Palmeiras? :)[/quote']

He's a good player, but he's currently serving game #3 of a 21 game suspension.

Is Santos Silva VINICIUS of Palmeiras worth keeping an eye on? Can you predict if his talent/ability right now can mould him into a Future Star or just an average Brasileiro League player?

Thnks Insider :)

Search him' date=' he has his thread.

Hey Insider, just need to ask you another question

Vitoria v ATL Goianense again, who do you think will come out on top??

Would've said Atletico Goianiense, but they are without Robston and Elias due to injury. It'll be close.

Thanks for the reply. But wait, that's one hell of a suspension, what did he do?

Also Jucilei. I searched, and the most recent comment on him by you was semi-constant sub. Does that means he won't see any big rise for the near future, other than maybe +1?

Do you see him as a potential 88/89 soon?
