Barcelona Update

Since taking over, many players have joined and left the Catalan Club, however the two biggest signings will have joined in the last 2 days.

Yesterday saw the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, who joins in a deal which sees Andres Iniesta and Drnytro Chygrynskiy go to Real Madrid. Esteban Granero has also joined Barcelona.

Today we are waiting for Daniele De Rossi to join Barcelona, after agreeing personal terms, and the two clubs agreeing a fee of Seydou Keita and Rafael Marquez, De Rossi just needs to pass a medical to complete his move. Manager Adam Gutteridge is hoping he will join in time, to face fierce rivals Real Madrid tonight, in the first El Classico of the season.

Marseille is getting ready!

After appointing Ottmar Hitzfeld as a manager of the club to succeed Didier Deschamps, the General started his magic in the market by signing new players especially in the back line that was needed for the French team.

pepe-reina-1.jpg

The most shocking transfer saw the first team keeper Steve Mandanda and Mamadou Niang leaving to Liverpool in exchange of the Spanish keeper, Pepe Reina, a lot of the fans were happy as they always knew that Mandanda is a good keeper but he still doesn't get to the world class level, Reina on the other hand showed his joy of that move and it was said that he's looking to win the league and the CL.

x160.jpg

That wasn't the end of the day, as finally Marseille got rid of the troublemaker in the club, Hatem Ben Arfa left for good, and signed for Benfica, who gave up the Brazilian center back Ânderson Luisao, and the Spanish defensive mid, Javi Garcia, in a deal that is considered an amazing one, which led the media to praise the ability of the General in making some significant deals.

Other news saying that the French team is still looking for a Right-Back, Attacking Midfielder and a Forward.... after finishing up the back line, it seems that Marseille aren't going to sleep soon.

Shakhtar enjoyed the bulk of possession and had the lions share of the chances but were unable to captalise.

United fans showing their humour

Barry Golden’s and Jack Harvey’s reign as Manchester United and Liverpool manager respectively began with an expected result. United and Liverpool are two points off top after a game played. United play River Plate in the Champions League on Monday at home.

From the previous day United and Liverpool new this was a chance to take a leap over one of the big four sides in Arsenal after their shock 3-0 defeat at home to Blackburn Rovers. Chelsea had beaten Sunderland 3-1 at Stamford Bridge earlier in the day. United and Liverpool exchanged cautious passes in the opening ten minutes as both sides played the game safe. United were the first side to hit a shot at goal, with Rooney forcing an instinctive save out of Steve Mandanda. Antonio Valencia broke down the right for United soon after and Rooney met his cross with a free header which he headed onto the roof of the net. United continued to pressure and the ball fell to United legend Ryan Giggs who sliced wide of the target. From Mandada’s goal kick Sergio Aguero headed it down to Michael Ballack who smashed a stunning twenty yard shot in off Van Der Sar’s post after twenty five minutes on his debut. United went forward and in the thirty second minute Ryan Giggs smashed a shot from outside the box which bounced back off the crossbar as United pressured. Valencia shot inches wide moments later from the right. Raul Albiol shot from outside the box and Jamie Carragher saved Liverpool, clearing the shot off the line just before half time. Half Time Liverpool 1-0 Manchester United.

Sergio Aguero produced a superb twenty five yard shot out of nothing forcing Van Der Sar into a magical save just after the restart. Antonio Valencia attempted a chip from inside the box after being put in space by Rooney but the ball went inches over the bar as United became frustrated. Rooney shot from ten yards two minutes later from Valencia’s pull back, and the ball was cleared off the line again this time by Skrtel. Dirk Kuyt headed inches over the bar from a Fabio Aurelio cross. United won a corner down the United end, and Giggs played the ball out to Wayne Rooney who smashed his shot off the crossbar from twenty five yards but Raul Albiol was on hand to poke the ball into the empty net to send the travelling fans wild. A much deserved equaliser. Minutes later Dirk Kuyt shot inches wide for Liverpool. Sergio Aguero nearly scored for Liverpool in the seventy second minute, missing a header from six yards after a brilliant cross from Aurelio. Near the end of the game Fabio Aurelio and Michael Ballack both missed chances as Liverpool went to try and win. Full Time Liverpool 1-1 Manchester United

galletti_pan8r.jpg

Olympiacos got off to a great start to the season with a 3-0 Victory over Panionios.

Five minutes later a spectacular long range shot by Luciano GALLETTI flew into the top corner! Galletti picked up MotM and manager Kevin Kelly said he will be rewarded by being taken off the transfer list. Kelly had originally planned to cash in on the player but after leading the team to an emphatic victory, he is not for sale.

SHAKHTAR WIN ROMA THRILLER

picture.php?albumid=137&pictureid=844

In an entertaining opening match to group G, Shakhtar triumphed by the odd goal in a five goal fest against Italian heavyweights Roma.

Man of the match, WILLIAN, opened the scoring early on 2 minutes with a fabulous curling shot to beat Lobont in the Roma goal.

Roma were soon level however, ESPOSITO showing his class to trick his way past Hubschman and finish well.

Chances continued to go begging at both ends until, just prior to half-time, WILLIAN was again the difference, this time finding the net with the help of a wicked deflection.

Roma nearly pulled level on 62, when Norway full-back John Arne RIISE blasted the bar with a typical rocket from 30 yards. Tens minutes later, however, the match was to take a crucial twist when TADDEI was shown a straight red for bringing down JADSON with a professional foul.

Shakhtar were again celebrating 8 minutes from time when DULJAJ appeared to put the tie beyond doubt - only for ESPOSITO to set up a grandstand finish only moments later following poor defending.

Shakhtar manager, Stifler, was delighted -

" It's a great result for us and vindicates resting most of these players at the weekend against Spartak - WILLIAN was exceptional for us "

New signing Claudio BIELER made a surprise appearance on the bench but did not take to the field. A £6m signing from Liga de Quito, BIELER is set to provide strking back up for LUIZ ADRIANO this season.

SAV RESULT FOR UNITED!

United fans message to River Plate.

Manchester United won their second game under boss Barry Golden last night, hammering River Plate with their second team. After drawing 1-1 away at Anfield on Saturday, United face London rivals Arsenal at home on Wednesday in the league.

United started brightly, scoring with their first opportunity. Javier Saviola netting after beating two defenders and he slotted the ball into the bottom corner. 1-0 two minutes gone. Barrado tried his luck for River Plate moments later and produced a stunning save from Van Der Sar. In the fifteenth minute Diego Buonanotte raced clear of the United defence and when one on one with Van Der Sar he could only scuff his shot horribly wide. In the opening twenty five minutes, it was all River Plate, Fabbiani headed onto the roof of the goal and Barrado chipped Van Der Sar from inside the box and the ball came crashing back off the crossbar. A minute later and United won a corner. Nani swung it in and Park Ji Sung was on hand to acrobatically produce and over head kick which sailed into the top corner. 2-0 twenty six minutes gone. Seconds later Ibrahim Afellay shot from twenty yards and the ball cannoned off the crossbar and rolled over the line. 3-0 twenty eight minutes gone. Saviola nearly had his second goal for United minutes later, shooting inches wide after a good run, as he continued to impress on his debut. Nani was released free by Darren Fletcher and the confident youngster rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home for 4-0. Afellay nearly made it five, with a flick from Nani’s cross going inches wide. Half Time United 4-0 River Plate.

Buonanotte shot just over the bar in the fifty second minute for River Plate and Barrado shot just over a minute later. Saviola burst through the River plate defence in the seventy third minute, and he blasted the ball into the bottom corner for 5-0. As Rooney came on for Saviola, Diarra for Owen and Evra for Insua United played some delightful football in the last fifteen minutes. There was one more goal to report about. Diarra laid the ball off to Rooney who chipped the ball up for Ibrahim Afellay who volley the ball from twenty yards perfectly into the top corner. 6-0 and game over. Final Score United 6-0 River Plate.

Lack gets a winning start

It was a typical Yorkshire Derby- as Leeds hosted Sheffield United in a thrilling English Shield round one tie.

Then Suddenly Leeds we're on the counter- Jonny Howson running strong against the Sheffield United back four, put a through ball to Sam Vokes who slotted passed the keeper.

As the time ticked on, both teams we're make great chances, Sheffield United player Junior STANISLAS continously sprinting down the wing- threating with some crosses.

Half-Time- Scores level.

A few minutes after the half time- Jason Crowe smashes a 30 yard shot- Against the crossbar.

Sam vokes, scores again- to level the game.

Then, after a big lump up field from the defence, Shinji OKAZAKI latches onto a ball, a pokes it past Casper Ankergren.

Jonathan Lack, is pushing his team on more. He wants more Goals!!

Gary Speed, vicious shot won Sheffield United a corner, it was beautifully wipped in by Speed, and Franco ARIZALA Smashes home.

Franco ARIZALA find himself one- on- one, after been put through by Junior Stanislas, and toe-pokes the ball into the back of the net.

Barcelona's South American Stars Shine

SMFA Champions Cup Group A - Monday 11 Jan 2010

Camp Nou (98,934)

Barcelona 4-2 Galatasary

Lionel-Messi-Barcelona-Basle-Champions-League_1447952.jpg

Barcelona enjoyed a relatively easy start in their defense of the Champions League. South American Stars Lionel Messi and Edinson Cavani were paired up for the first time, and they were the difference in this enthralling encounter between the Spanish and Turkish Giants.

Starting XI:

Valdes

Galamaz Milito Boenisch

Rodwell

Granero Busquets Hasebe Hunt

Messi Cavani

It was a quiet start to the match but after Nonda went close for Galatasary, Édinson CAVANI nonchalantly lobbed the ball over the advancing keeper to put Barca 1-0 up after 12mins. Surprisingly though it was Gala who scored next, Serkhan Calik's shot taking a wicked deflection wrong footing Victor Valdes to make it 1-1. Barca went in at halftime 2-1 up though, a fumble by Galatasarys keeper, gifting Lionel Messi with his first goal of the night and the season in the 44th minute.

It wasn't till the 68th minute, that the game picked up its pace again, Shabani Nonda equalising for Gala with a great goal from outside the box. But this was exactly what Barca needed, captain Sergio Busquets scoring volleying past the motionless keeper after 72mins, but it was Lionel Messi who had the last say in this match, hitting a powerful shot in off the post on the 86minute mark.

FULLTIME: Barcelona 4-2 Galatasary

Next for Barca is a home game to Villarreal, in which the big guns are expected to be recalled to the team

Sheffield United Terminate Loan of Gael Kakuta!

Sheffield United have terminated the loan of Chelsea player Gael Kakuta after the player failed to make a impact at Bramall Lane-

Jonathan Lack- had this to say "Gael is a quality player- with a great future ahead of him...I'm sure of that.

But right now- I'm desperatly looking to strengthen the side, and i'll be browsing the transfer market- for a loan signing for a significant period of time.
