Re: Official Liverpool Thread

Fantastic game and Sturridge coming back is massive for us, though this game has just further proved we must buy A full back really, both Cissokho and Johnson got torn and let in cross after cross. Sooner Enrique is back the better, never realized how important he was till this season tbh :o

Absolutely delighted with that result. Honestly wasn't expecting a win before the game and I would have definitely settled for a draw before the game and at half time. Let's not forget that City only drew at the Britannia and Chelsea lost. It's also 3 points that we didn't pick up last season. Brilliant game and a brilliant result!

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

Just one of those mad matches you can't really look into, we got major strokes of luck in that match. Wing backs need to be a priority in January, Johnson was dreadful in attack and defence today, Cissokho was good on the attack but clumsy in defence.

And how Skrtel hasn't given away a penalty yet is beyond me.

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

How good is Sterling though really? Better than Coutinho at the moment and I reckon Coutinho may lose his place in the team when Sturridge comes back into the 11

Urgh no way. Sterling makes far far to cheap many mistakes nor can finish, id feel more confident with Coutinho & Sterling as an impact player.

He does make the odd mistake but I think he's been a bigger threat. Coutinho's finishing has been doing my head in lately, so wasteful its unreal. Not sure what Rodgers will do. Both great.

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

That's as good a win as any we've had this season, one of the toughest games we had left.

Sterling's pen was soft but anywhere else on the pitch that's a foul ten times out of ten, so I can see why the ref gave it. Suarez' handball? How could that be a pen when his hands are practically glued to his body?

Sturridge is the joint 3rd highest scorer in the league despite missing 6 weeks. For me Sterling is playing better than Coutinho at the moment (more effective) but we'd probably be more balanced with Coutinho, Suarez & Sturridge.

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

They're both doing good. What is it with people on this thread thinking players are bad because of their shooting.

End product is a big part of football. Especially for attackers. Hence why Suarez is now considered one of the best players in the world whereas when he first he came he wasnt cos he couldnt finish. Coutinho and Sterling have both been great but they need to finish better. Saying that, theyre 21 and 19. Imagine them in 5 years time with more experience :D

It doesn't really matter if you have Sturridge and Suarez in your team though. Coutinho will be one of the best midfielders in the league if he practices his shooting. It was a concern when we had Dalglish in charge and we couldn't score anythnig, but now it is not a concern for the team, just individually.

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

Most Creative Players:

50 - Hazard

49 - Silva

47 - Suarez, Nasri

45 - Ozil

42 - Gerrard

41 - Mirallas

40 - Rooney

39 - Henderson, Sissoko

Most Assists:

9 - Rooney

7 - Ozil

6 - Ramsey, Navas, Gerrard

5 - Silva, Hazard, Suarez, Henderson, Giroud, Mirallas, Lallana + 3 others.

Most Clear-cut chances created:

13 - Suarez

9 - Ramsey

8 - Coutinho

7 - Crouch & Lennon

5 assists doesn't really do any kind of justice to Suarez when he's created 40 chances and 13 of those have been clear-cut chances. Stats are from @EPLIndex on Twitter.

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

I swear to be as pessimistic as I can in the next few months, Everytime I am we tend to grab a really good win!! :)

Fabulous match to watch, watching us is like Torture at times, we can be so brilliant going forward but give you absolute kittens at the back at times.

First and foremost it is a brilliant win, to win at Stoke is no mean feat one of the most difficult away days in the PL and given the circumstances dropping a two goal lead showed great character to bounce back and a good mentality would have been easy to feel sorry for ourselves but credit the players they kept believing.

Finally had a bit of luck today as well been a long time coming as we ain't really been blessed with luck this season and today is the first dubious decision I can remember us getting. No way was it deliberate handball in the build up, the contact was minimal and for me it was not a penalty but there was contact and Sterling was clever. in no way was it a dive in its purest sense as there was contact but we got lucky there no doubt.

Brilliant to see Sturridge back looked s sharp considering how long he has been out for and adds a whole new dynamic. The pass for Luis 2nd goal was genius such superb vision. I thought Sterling had another very good game why people Re doubting him I don't know he has really stepped it up and looked our best attacking threat for large parts today.

I also thought Stevie was brilliant in that DM role today the amount of tackles and interceptions he made was top class, very interesting to see Brendon reverse Stevie and Lucas role, I have never seen Lucas so far forward so many times. If Brendon is to stick with Stevie in that role could be a problem for Lucas because I can't see Brendon wanting to employ him in one of those other advanced midfield roles going forward.

Usual defensive problems though and Mignolet seems to have lost a bit of confidence IMO he seems to be thinking about things to much and he looks under pressure hope he rediscovers it because for five months he has been superb but going through a bit of a sticky patch.

Can't empathise how good a win that was must push on against Villa next week.

5 goals in the first 5 minutes for us this season - not bad..

Lets be honest' date=' how good would our team be with baines, jagielka and coleman?! Reckon we could win the league maybe. Cheeky 35 mil bid maybe when we get top 4.... ;):D[/quote']No reason why Clyne wouldn't suffice.... seems a pretty tidy player.

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

It seems Rodgers trying to ease Gerrard more into DM or probably 'regista' role (such as Pirlo) as i'm sure Gerrard will end up playing there when he's becoming older so he doesn't need to run too much but still be able to do his trademark Hollywood pass. Don't forget Lucas is primarily an attacking minded box to box midfielder when he first came so if he can adapt to his 'new' role well it might be a bonus point

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

Yeah, Lucas is just playing where he did for Gremio, and he's rarely played there for us so it's good to see him back there!

Gerrard more or less plays that role for England at times, so it won't be that different for him.

I worry that we'll still have the same problems defensively in front of the back four though, and I still feel we need a specialist defensive midfielder for some games.
