Yeah' date=' Lucas is just playing where he did for Gremio, and he's rarely played there for us [b']so it's good to see him back there![/b]

Gerrard more or less plays that role for England at times, so it won't be that different for him.

I worry that we'll still have the same problems defensively in front of the back four though, and I still feel we need a specialist defensive midfielder for some games.

It would be good if Lucas had the qualities needed to play that role but he simply hasn't got them. At the moment he should be a squad player for us rather than starting games week in week out.

Gerrard also doesn't really have the qualities to play that position, not that well at least. His performance really divided opinions yday, imo he was okay but Lucas behind Gerrard is the better combination.

Definitely. We need a DM or a box-to-box midfielder. Our best midfield at the moment includes Allen and Henderson and if we got someone to complement them better than Lucas or Gerrard or alternatively someone to play with Gerrard and Henderson, that would be great.

It will be very tough to drop perhaps the greatest ever Liverpool player but Rodgers has shown that he has balls of steel so I think he'll do it at some point. I can guarantee that BR hasn't given up on the 'death by football' philosophy, he'll get that project (lack of a better word) going after a couple of transfer windows when he has the midfield & defense to execute it.

Liverpool target Jorginho is set to join Napoli from Hellas Verona. Would have liked to see him in the Premier League but ah well' date=' I'm sure he'll do well in Naples.[/quote']

Shouldn't be too much of a problem for him, seeing as he's used to the boring Italian style of play. But yes, would have been nice to see him in the PL.

Latest Liverpool News:

1- Tiago Illori looks set for a loan move to La Liga as son as Sakho is fit, Granada looks the likeliest destination.

2- Luis Garcia retired earlier this week never a great player IMO but a good player who tried his hardest, loved the club and provided some fantastic memories, good luck in retirement Luis Lad. :)

3- Through to the 5th round of the FA Youth Cup after a 3-1 victory over Villa Harry Wilson netting a brace. Norwich or Watford away in the 5th round.

4- Dont expect mass transfer activity this window all the noises coming out of the club etc suggest if there is any will be limited to possibly one and a good chance nothing may happen at all on the in going side.

If we don't bring in some bodies we can write off Top 4, out of all the challengers we have maybe the poorest squad depth, if injuries pile up again we'll struggle for sure. A winger and a Wing-Back are an absolute must for this window obviously I understand how difficult it will be to bring some people in but there must be someone available. I've heard that Rodgers is set for a meeting after the Villa game with FSG about transfers with John Henry set to be in Liverpool tomorrow. Seems i'm not the only one worrying about this lack of action, we are in a fantastic position going into the home stretch I don't want it to slip because we were too cautious in the window.

I echo want Alridge said, we need at least one player who makes us better.

Edit; Rodgers has confirmed Allen and Sakho are back in training and could feature against Villa in some form.

He's also said Flanagan and Enrique are still injured and not yet training.

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

Ridiculous statement imo.

Ok maybe a little over the top but as the season drags on our lack of depth will be highlighted, we can get Top 4 no doubt, but we'll have to be incredibly lucky with injuries. We need depth I just don't think that with average luck that our current team can see this through till the end of the season especially depending on how long we last in the FA Cup. Our first team is good enough for the Top 4 but we are wafer thin in depth.

Dont 100% agree with this tbh. We're 4th now and we've been without Sturridge, Enrique, Allen, Suarez and Agger for a number of games and look where we are. I think we could do with a couple more just to secure top 4 but I wouldnt be too worried if we didnt. Remember the teams competing for top 4 are in cups as well with Spurs and Man U in europe. Knowing us we'd spend like 30 mil in January and miss out anyway

We've already got through a pretty tough period with injuries, and now that we're very close to a fully fit squad (bar Coates), I don't think we're that desperate for signings. We should do everything we can to buy top class players but if we fail to do so, I think we're still in a very strong position for top 4. I personally would be happy with 1 player who would make us stronger, hopefully a defensive player. The Salah deal seems to be stalling and that's maybe a good thing, I'm not sure if he could make an immediate impact or out-perform Sterling so there's no real need for him right now.

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

More SM related but...

Sterling only got a +1 to 87 in this round of ratings? Expected more.

I didn't even expect him to rise. He was very poor last season and started this season poorly as well. He was absolutely atrocious against Hull a few weeks back and has only really improved since then.

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

;2829575']What is it with M'vila?

We should of got Bertrand.

He's a good player. Ideal for the pressing game we have when we play 3 in midfield and can play the DM role which we need. Obviously there have been issues with his attitude but with him becoming a parent I think he's started to sort himself out. A couple years ago he was considered one of the best young talents in Europe. I think a year in the wilderness of Russia may have given him a little perspective. Plus Rodgers is a great man-manager.

Wouldnt want Bertrand anywhere near the club, he's so average. Cissoko's not great but I'd rather we set our sights higher than Bertrand if we're trying to get top 4. He's no way near good enough. Aston Villa is a good club for him imo
