Re: Official Liverpool Thread

Apparently according to German Newspaper Bild (which I understand is fairly reliable) we have agreed a deal just shy of 10m for Emre Can.

Not seen much of him so can't really comment to much on him as a player but if he does sign then Lucas position within the side/squad may well be in doubt I would have thought.

If you rate him Raz he must be good ;)

I really don't know to much about him ain't seen much of Leverkusen this season.

In all seriousness I won't believe anything about any deal until I see them in a Liverpool shirt, but as it is coming from German sources I guess it might have some legs to it.

I don't know if you was ironic in the first part but whatever...

He's so versatile. He can play as a leftback,he can play as a CM and also DM.Think he has even played at CB once this season. He's been good/great in every single position he has played, though he obviously shines when he plays as a CM.He's a top talent and can be a great player for Liverpool or any side who will have him.He definetly has the potential to even start for Bayern in future.Think they still have a buy-back clause on his contract for another season(think they introduced that buy-back just for 2 years and if they don't activate it,its gone).

Well if he does join lets hope he turns out to be as good as you suggest he is, always the possibility it could work out like the Sahin deal which did not exactly work out, but it does seem as though the Bundesliga is a place we have been doing some serious scouting of late so could be a decent place to pick up a few players we require.

Well, from what I remember you rarely played Sahin's in his correct position and he needed time at BvB to get back to his best.Actually, not really his best, but he's really good now.

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

It's been reported that part of the reason why Leverkusen would sell to us is so that Bayern can't activate the buy-back clause which is a smaller amount than what we're offering. Also, Raphael Honigstein says that Can's agent has a good relationship with Rodgers.

Let's hope we can get the deal done.

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

Re; Emre Can.

Is he that good? Or is just another Bundeslida type of player passing along. Sahin, Yesil didn't exactly work out for us.

But as mention before he does look versatile; playing all over the place last season according to transfermarkt AM,RM,LM,CM,DM,LB,CB. But his main position is DM, which we indeed need a cover.

Regarding the agent link, he is under the same agency with Sahin and Yesil, maybe that's why this rumors surface. We seen it everytime the season ends, that agent try to contact other club to buy his client.

Anything below 10M is okay with me, but didn't Rodgers mention he is going for starter? This lad doesn't strike me as one for us.

The only thing Can has in common with Yesil & Sahin is Bundesliga. Just like there's no reason to compare Lallana to Downing or Carroll, I don't think Can should be compared to those two.

The Times have said we're looking for a young player who can cover for Gerrard, and since Can is able to play a lot of other positions, this would make sense (rather than buying a limited DM specialist).

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

As Suso says I would guess his primary objective in the squad is to be that playmaking DM if Gerrard is not available plus his flexibility which Rodgers absolutely adores in players is a big advantage.

The fee being reported seems very reasonable and if we were to sell Lucas then I think we might actually be in profit there, be a shame to see Lucas go though I do have a soft spot for him just for the unbelievable character and determination he has shown in his time here and he clearly loves the club.

Look at the bright side Can surely could not work out any worse than the Sahin/Yesil deals. :)

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

Marca say Moreno is going to reject us so he can go to Real Madrid. I mean that seems a real bright idea going to a team that already has 2 world class players in his own position.

Well Marca are Madrid's mouthpiece in the press you wouldn't expect them to say anything different would you....

Maybe I have just seen him when he has had off days but he ain't looked that good to me certainly defensively leaves a lot to be desired....

Wouldn't mind if he went to Madrid would make Coentrao available.

Woah. Hold your horse. :P

Don't need your Lallana to Downing comparison, as we all know everyone is better than Downing. ;)

I don't compared Can to those players, just saying buying player directly/indirectly coming from Bundesliga doesn't really work out for us so far.

The Times have said we're looking for a young player who can cover for Gerrard, and since Can is able to play a lot of other positions, this would make sense (rather than buying a limited DM specialist).
Agreed on player that can play on many position, but I thought Rodgers was emphasis that point on attacking player at that time (can play across the attacking 4 spot).

Is he capable of playing Gerrard role when Gerrard is unfit / suspended? Play-making DM is a huge task for any player coming from different league, especially in his first season. I want experience player playing there.

Saying that, if Can is starting from bench or squad player for any other position, I'd be content with that price.

Marca say Moreno is going to reject us so he can go to Real Madrid. I mean that seems a real bright idea going to a team that already has 2 world class players in his own position.

3. Including Bale if he still have it. ;)

Didn't they want to sell Coentrao this summer? And Real Madrid like paying silly money for their homegrown talent. We all know, we are out-muscled when it comes to financial play (transfer, wages etc).

Although I'm not gonna read too much into it when it comes to Marca reporting for Madrid.

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

I have checked bild.de and not a single word about that.

The only thing closely related to that is a one-liner in "Sport Bild online" transfer news where they are summing up news from 54 players; Can among them. They say that it is near-completed; if that is true and if they actually have more information than kicker who reported Liverpool's interest first, who knows. They have done this with lots of players before though in their transfer news update.

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

So the players we've been linked to heavily this week have been:

Lallana-+20mil- I've said plenty

Moreno-15mil-Coming off the back of a very good season with Sevilla. I wouldnt let his performance in the europa league final put us off him. he's in the spain squad and wanted by madrid and chelsea. He's young and will only get better too. I'd be pleased if we could pull this transfer off.

Emre Can-10mil- Talented player. Only 20. Can play DM, CM, LB,RB so would provide cover to many positions. I'd say this would be a very astute signing.

Shaqiri-15mil- Good player, would be a great addition. Nuff said

Lovren-20mil- Had a very good season however he's been very inconsistent throughout his career in general. Reminds me of Skrtel in this respect and its pretty easy to play well when you have quality fullbacks and wanyama and schneiderlin ahead of you. I'd feel a bit uneasy of us paying so much for him. think theres better out there

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

I wouldnt touch Moreno with a barge pole now.

Cant defend at all. We need fullbacks who can do both. Ashley Cole should be a priority for me. Like Kolo did, can come in and galvanise the dressing room, and offer his experience., even though i think the guy is a complete numbnuts

Curtis Davies' stock increased tenfold with his FA cup heroics, definitely better money spent than Lovren, who i agree has been very patchy in his career form wise, but give him credit held his own well this season.

Few Bony rumours floating about, id love to get him. Kinda stinks that Carroll was let go and several times we were crying out for him a couple times this season but given his injury record and hindsight etc.. Bony would make a great addition to the front line. Bump his wages, and Liverpool would definitely be an enticing step up on his footballing CV with CL next season.

Thorgan Hazard had a mention too, for a loan deal its a no brainer IMO, pretty much lead Zulte Waregem to overachieve this season.

Would love Shaqiri, but not for 15M....

& not too thrilled about paying 10M for Emre Can, but its a done deal if you search the latest news. We have the funds though so i should be more content.

Fantasy buy would be Alexis Sanchez.....he is available! and get Gary Medel too for cheap off Cardiff.

Harsh on Moreno (if your comment was based on Europa final only) and same can be said with Cole with his last 2/3 performance for Chelsea this season. Suspect he would bring an air rifle to galvanise the dressing room tho. :P

Would love Alexis, having a proper spell this season for Barca compared to the previous one. Alexis or Hulk would be my marquee signing if we are talking fantasy here.

The latest rumors is Milner. 'Apparently' he wants out and we and Arsenal are interested. Can't decide what to make on this one, as he seems good enough to be starter for us. But again, can't see City selling him as they wee desperate for homegrown player with all the FFP punishment (reduced squad cap etc).

Jesus Christ... Over paying for Lallana and now the possibility of Milner, who again will probably be overpriced and on high wages, AND we're probably keeping Johnson.. Can it get any worse?!?!? :o

Yeah considering its a rumour on the back of a newspaper.

People moan if we spend big

People moan if we spend little

People moan if we don't sign anyone

People moan when we do sign someone
