Re: Official Liverpool Thread

Lambert's a great signing for Liverpool for £4 million, he's scored 28 goals in his two Premier League seasons and people aren't giving him near the credit he deserves for his technical ability. Lambert will offer Liverpool a lot, he's a goalscorer, creator, set piece taker and somebody able to hold up the ball. Liverpool had no real depth to their attack last season, and Borini and Lambert is good cover for them considering the Champions League.

I don't really know what the complaints are, yes their does need to be a focus on other areas but the lack of cover up front was an issue and has been addressed for a low cost.

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

If it's 4 million then yes fair enough it's a good deal... but how can everyone not admit that 8-10 is way too much? :o

Nonetheless I won't go on or else I'll end up with people up my backside complaining about people complaining.

True that^ :o

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

Yet for many reasons Lambert is the perfect fit for Liverpool – here’s why;

A fan in a shirt: since Carragher retired the season before last it has been a worry for fans that the club was in danger of losing its identity. ”There has always been a Scouser in the team” many ex-players commented at the time of his retirement, cue a sensational first real season by Jon Flanagan. Alas, we have a Scouser back in the squad in ‘Flanno’ but the influence of Carragher was irreplaceable. Hopefully, if Lambert signed then he would add an aggressive Scouse dimension back to Liverpool’s line-up, joining Flanagan and Gerrard.

Plan B: when Chelsea parked the bus and triggered our loss of the title, we were left deflated and depressed. The neutrals admired our style and scorned theirs, but that wasn’t enough. As many pundits rightly called, Liverpool needed the experience to break down Chelsea. Lambert will offer us another dimension in our playing style. We can play it forward, we can bypass midfield, it can go wide and he will mix things up. Disregard the stigma attached to such football, the ‘Stoke’ tag is not our aim, but we need to match the styles of defensive teams when they do come to Anfield.

Set pieces: Atletico vs Real Madrid proved that football, tactically speaking, has evolved once more, from tiki-taka, from countering, to maximising set-pieces. The lessening of space between the lines has resulted in more free-kicks than ever before – Rickie can take these – however he will not be used for that. Lambert will be another threat in the box for us, joining Skrtel as a set-piece goalscorer.

Dressing room experience: this Liverpool squad is extremely likeable, mostly due to our youthful flair. But with youth comes naivety. Gerrard is our elder statesman, we need another presence in that changing room to keep the young Coutinho, Sterling, Flanagan, Joao, Tiago, Henderson and to an extent, Sturridge, grounded and focused on our quest for glory.

Here’s to hoping Rickie comes home at long last.

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

Hope thats a joke I really do' date=' I'd like him but not for anything close to that price :o[/quote']

A combined fee of £35m for Lambert and Lallana

£35m???

not saying they are right for us but £35m could get Benzema and Remy. Surely theres better ways of spending £35m other than getting an admitedly exciting lad like Lallana and Andy Carrols Dad? (although I do agree that theres nowt quite like a proper scouser up front)

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

How about that, seems that the fee for Lambert is around £4M. Maybe we shouldn't always believe the papers when they come up with crazy numbers.

Pros & Cons with Lambert:

Pros:

- Decent goal-scorer

- only 2 players have created more clear cut chances or have more assists from open play than Lambert over the last 2 seasons.

- Set piece specialist

- Scouser & a Liverpool fan -> won't moan about game time

- Better than our current 3rd & 4th best strikers

- Different in style to our 1st & 2nd choice strikers

- Experience from playing in a pressing team

- Small fee & wages

- homegrown

Cons:

- 32

- no experience from CL games

- can only play centrally

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

4m is a very shrewd bit of business by BR and I wouldn't be surprised if Sturridge got injured and RL really stepped up and had a great season. Very low risk signing at 4m for a proven player and someone that will sweat blood and tears for the shirt.

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

See thats what I meant yesterday :P , all that winging and moaning about paying 8mil like it was out of your lottery winnings or something :D and it wasn't even the right price.

excellent signing for 4mil, people can keep saying Remy and Benzima and others but none of those are going to be happy playing backup to Saurez and Sturridge.

People never seem to learn about not believing the papers, just wait till the signing is (or isnt) done and then moan about it ;)

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

Bristol Rovers have a 20% sell on clause for Ricky Lambert, so any sort of potential signing for the purpose of lowering the Lallana fee is just pure speculation.

I don't really see what the moaning is in regards to the £9 million fee, £9 million is a fee that was plucked out of the air by Jim White live on Sky when he was told the fee was in the region of £8-10 million. Since then Sky Sources have reported that a £4 million fee has been agreed, and the more reliable sources believe that the deal is worth £4 million. It's a bargain.

Re: Official Liverpool Thread

So we should wait until the deal is confirmed before commenting but now that the rumored price is lower (but still not confirmed) we can comment?

Surely the forum is THE place for emotive discussion about the club - assuming none of us work for LFC then 90% of the time it will be opinion and most of that will have to be based upon press and speculation?

I love a bit of the old knee jerk personally.

Anyhow, £4m for Lambert is indeed good business. £9m or what not would have been ridiculous, but £4m represents decent value for asomeone who will try his heart out - which by the way he will be wearing on his sleeve. Seems a good bloke and pleased to have him at the club (as and when....)

So, chants?

To the tune of Kaiser Chiefs Ruby:

"Ricky, Ricky, Ricky, Ricky.....ahahahaaaaaa....do ya, do ya, do ya, do ya"
