Re: next player to reach 99

I know it's a true fact but it isn't a reason why Argentina won't win the World Cup (that'll be woeful management). Honestly' date=' before this season began would you put Rooney's rating as a striker equal to that of Drogba, Torres, Villa, Eto'o etc. all of whom have superior goal-scoring records. This is the first season Rooney has demonstrated 96 quality (in fact I'd say 97 quality this season but he shouldn't rise).[/quote']

Bang on..

Although im not saying Rooney will never get 99, he is FAR from being close.. Rooney at the beggining of the season was overated he was no more then a 94 rated player, due to the amazing season he has had he has justified his 96 rating, with a continuation of this form and hopefully a good World Cup run with England, 97 will be on its way, however to talk about 99 is stupid, this is only the first season he has been 99 quality, and will have to maintain that for at least 18 months to even be considered for a 99, the step up from 95+ ratings is huge..

Re: next player to reach 99

Or he'll have to be sold to Madrid to fund the debt payments and his career goes the same way as Owen's ;)

i dont remember owen scoring 40 odd goals before his move to madrid do you ? , Ronaldo in one word was an idiot i never liked him , yes he scored alot but tbh he was arrogant and hogged , dived and never really defended . I was pleased with his move to madrid.

Rooney wont go he has told the press he is happy and doesnt want to leave so i dont see him going.

The debt you mention is slowly decreasing ! , and it is not like every club in europe is in positive figures now is it , even clubs like Liverpool , Arsenal and Chelsea are carring 100s of million pounds in debt but because ours is the largest and we have stupid owners in the glazers who find every need to publicise the debts that other fans use it as amo to attack us.

The red nights will take us over in the summer end of

Normally the cheeky wink denotes sarcasm ;) I'm a City fan so you can't blame me for having the odd dig. Overall I think some United fans need to take their red goggles off. Rooney's good but he's been good for one season. Messi's a couple of years younger, plays for a better side and, over several seasons, been the better player.

Rooney's been fantastic fr the last 3, if only people could be bothered watching him play than check out on sky sports how many goals he has scored. oh and apart from 1 season Rooney has outscored Drogba in the rest.

Rooney's good but before this year he's only scored more than 15 league goals in one season and that was 4 years ago. You can point to his general work-rate and team-play but for a 96 rated striker he should score more. Villa's hit over 15 in the league each season for the last 9 seasons and yet is rated the same. Truth is this is the first season Rooney has been worthy of a 96 so talk of 99 is ridiculous unless he keeps this form up for several years at which point I think Messi or Ronaldo will have already hit 99 so Rooney won't be the next. How he's got a quarter of the votes baffles me

Re: next player to reach 99

No one was looking at Rooney when he was with Ronaldo, Rooney had to be in the shadow of Ronaldo, Rooney been hitting the net without people thinking because it was the Ronaldo show.

When Ronaldo did the 42 goals a season Rooney got 18 but hardly anyone remembers. Rooney scored 65 goals when Ronaldo was there, hardly anyone remembers because they remember Ronaldo.

Now look every can see him, banging in the goals, proving a point.

Thing is hes played more as a F/AM or Am/F plenty of times in the last 3 seasons and his assists record is better than any of the strikers you mentioned excluding Messi(?). Villa has played UEFA cup football for 3 seasons running so it's a disgrace in itself hes rated 96

He's still a striker and his scoring record prior to this season wasn't good enough to be rated 96 IMO. If you look down these posts you'll realise that everyone who doesn't support United agrees with me :o Villa's international record is fantastic (37 in 55) and far better than Rooney's. Also you could argue that scoring that amount of goals for a lesser team warrants a higher rating given that he's winning stuff with Spain. Weird precedent where West Ham finished 16th in 1966. Would Moore, Hurst and numerous other England players needed lower ratings because Moore in particular was the best defender in the world at that time.

That's how the SM ratings work though. What's wierd is you consider someone who's played out wide and as an AM a striker despite the fact that he didn't play as a striker

Re: next player to reach 99

Going to keep this short and sweet.

Anyone who thinks Rooney should be rated above Messi & Ronaldo are very strange people.

IMO, he as fantastic as he is, he is quite a way of technically from those two.

But lets give him a 99 because he works hard ! hey screw it, while were there lets give Fletcher a 98, he words hard too !

Re: next player to reach 99

No-one should reach 99.

To give someone the highest rating on the game (99 out of 99), would be to say they are perfect in every footballing measure possible, to not be in any way fallible, and to be consistently amazing in every game.

They should keep 99 as the highest rating in the game, but they should never again let anyone reach it. :)

Wouldn't that be to rate a player 100? It looks to me that's why the max rating is 99.

Re: next player to reach 99

should i add CHIVU or MUTU to the poll? the 5 "other player" votes are most likely for them' date=' isnt it?[/quote']

Why do you keep mentioning Mutu? Mutu is done, over, finished.

Chivu 99? Child pleasee, NEVER.

And no need to add other players seeing that C. Ronaldo and Messi are the only 2 having a realistic shot a 99 atm. Rooney is playing amazing but 96->99 NOT happening.

But since you want to add 2 more players add Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres.

And stop talking about that junkie MUTU!

Re: next player to reach 99

ive gone with xavi coz he wont but he should be first if any. as good as messi is (potentially best ever) hes done it for just a couple of seasons. how long as xavi been outstanding. i think this amount of experience should be taken into consideration. hs the the best ever cm still playing, by a good distance imo. i thimk he should be level atleast with messi who has his whole career infront of him. xavi is at a peek age for his style of play and is showing it, sheer class.

before i get slated, just my opinion

Re: next player to reach 99

just out of interest, no defenders?

im not saying any would be 99 but theres a few who do just as fantastic and often more important job than the attackers. a players rating should be based on his ability in his position, i.e messi not a defender so that aspect not taken into consideration. therefore there are players who are as talented in there def position as people like fabregas and kaka are in theres. and how does a gk ever get a 99 in his specialist job. altho casillas has had a dip in form, ther was a time, i believe, when he could not have been better, therefore 99. he had most shots to save in the whole la liga when they last won it, unbelievable stat. what more can he do, score free kicks, more assists????? haha

anyway players who have been more influential than a couple of attack minded players mentioned in thi. topic

casillas

puyol

maicon

terry

essien

cambiasso
