LEAGUE ROUNDUP

DIVISION ONE

champions - hibernians fc paola

Notts County and Wrexham both dropped points for the first time last sunday but no one took advantage and they both remain first and second. Both sides drawing there matches. Aldershot take over third as the the champions lose to the Jets.

Headaches for Wellington and Peterborough as they are still awaiting there first wins. Central Coast jump out of trouble picking up there first win at Peterboroughs expense.

DIVISION TWO

Theres no stopping Bristol Rovers at the moment as they stretch there lead to five points at the top of D2 after only five matches played. A win over Stafford giving Pthames side a healthy advantage. Stirling Albion became the lastest team to give Tamworth a hiding as they take the second promotion place. Sydney go into third as they beat struggling Adelaide United.

Adelaide and Birkirkara remain winless and in the bottom two positions heading towards D3 at this early stage of the campaign. Adelaide also part company with manager Nav after there poor start to the season.

DIVISION THREE

Baseball Furies Perth Glory side are on top of D3 still and are only one of two sides to have achieved maximum points so far. Northwich are second after there win over Rushden and third place goes to Forest Green after they destroyed East Fife.

Managerless Arbroath and East Fife hold up the league with no points.

CUP ROUNDUP

champions - bristol rovers

Not much in the way of cup upsets at this early stage in the competition. Exeter blew away league leader of D3 Perth Glory by a massive 9-1. Managerless Sliema Wanderers pulled off the biggest shock beating current D1 leaders Notts County. Struggling East Fife also claimed a D1 scalp by knocking out Queensland. Holders Bristol Rovers booked a place in the next round beating Arbroath comfortably.

Round three has the holders away at D1's Wellington Phoenix whilst Northwich host D1 opposition in Aldershot. In the only all D1 tie Crawley Town will take on Hibernians.

Rushden & Diamonds 1-3 Cowdenbeath

The blue Brazil of Cowdenbeath managed to get their second win of the season tonight after defeating Rushden 3-1.

The score somewhat flatters the away side as the game was pretty evenly matched, both teams had a fair amount of possession, and similar amount of attempts on goal.

Cowdenbeath took the lead after 10 minutes when Iain Mauchlen scored, the home side drew level through Marcus Kelly.

Cowdenbeath left it late and got late goals from Iain Mauchlen and Paul McBride to give them the three points.

Cowdenbeath now sit 8th in division 3, is there still a chance of promotion? I doubt it

Bristol Rovers continue their lethal run of form in Division Two by giving poor Dagenham and Redbridge a right hammering with a 6-0 win. Goals from Gary Speed and Roar Strand, and two goals apiece from Henrik Larsson and red-hot striker Luis Bonnet, taking his goal tally this season to an amazing 10 goals in 6 games in the league season.

Bristol Rovers have a total of 6 players in the goalscorers list and also have 6 players on the assists table, with Bonnet, Larsson and Daniel Borimirov on 6 assists each

Exeter City 3 - 0 Adelaide United

Exeter put in another good performance, against one of the weakest teams in division 2, and put their promotion hopes up.

Leroy Lita on 3mins, before John Obi Mikel doubled the lead just after the half hour mark.

Then in the 2nd half, Lita got his second to secure a valuable away win for the Grecians.

Exeter go up to 4th, but with the same amount of points as 2nd placed Morecambe.

The time for juve_fan to leave his favourite club Peterborough United may be drawing to a close. After seeing his side lose their 6th game on the trot lsat night against Greta (6-1), the sacking for juve_fan is soon to come. He has been getting hate mail from fans, and worse from the board, it is umoured that a loss in his next game would seal his fate.

Re: The Leamington Invitational Official Thread

So far, only after six games, anything can happen. Normally though, with last season, the teams who were top of the table contenders went up or finished in the top 4. Anything can happen, I will post another division report at the half-way stage of the league, with a cup special coming up on Wednesday, to follow the progress. Each day from now on, if it's OK with Leamington Steve, I will post a 'profile' for each team in each division, starting off tomorrow with Hibernians FC Paola from Division One, Sydney FC from Division Two and Cowdenbeath in Division Three

Re: The Leamington Invitational Official Thread

Exeter City 1 - 2 Morecambe

City wanted revenge on Morecambe for what they did in the Conference Play Off final this year, in stead they got a repeat of it.

Shogo Niashikawa gave City an early lead, just like Lee Phillips did last weekend.

But a goal from Bradley Johnson, and a late on ( just like last weekend ) from Mario Defendi gave Morecambe the win.

Exeter down to 6th, but there is still plenty of time to get nearer those promotion spots.

Peterborough Utd 1 - 3 QUEENSLAND ROAR

The Roar won their first game in five as they try to recapture last seasons form.On target for them was young John Paul KISSOCK in his first game of the season and the 17 year old is now a possibility for first team action on a more regular basis.

The win sees them up to fifth place but with this season being a tougher league they can not afford to lose many more games if they are to challenge for the title.

DIVISION TWO

Bristol Rovers 2 - 3 Sydney FC

Sydneys win takes them second and closes the gap on Rovers to five points. In a game that both sides led at some stage it was Anthony Stokes goal on 77 that won it for Neller SNR's side.

Morecambe 0 - 2 Adelaide United

A shock defeat for Marks Morecambe drops them to third as Adelaide climb out of the bottom two. Adelaides only two shots on target the difference with Nathan Burns scoring twice in seven minutes.

Stirling Albion 3 - 4 Albion Rovers

Both Colins and Grants side are languishing in the upper end of the table and should prove contenders for promotion along with a few other sides this season. If so Albions win here over Stirling could be the difference between one of these sides going up as Bristol Rovers look hot favourites.

Birkirkara 0 - 3 Exeter City

Georges Exter record a comfortable win over doomed managerless Birkirkara. After being relegated from D1 last season they look destined to repeat that with zero points from eight games thus far. Meanwhile Georges Exeter rise to 5th and are one point short of second.

Raith Rovers 5 - 1 Stafford Rangers

This was a record breaking match for both sides. Raith the more happy about that stat as Frasers side jump over Ivans into 7th. Raith three one up when they were reduced to ten managed to score twice more to inflict Staffords heaviest defeat on them.

Tamworth 0 - 0 Dagenham and Redbridge

Tamworth unveiled new manager Richard Worsley to hopefully lead them away from trouble and provide some stability at a club that has seen a few managers come and go in a short space of time. Not losing to relegation threatened Dagenham was a good start which fans will hope Richard can build on.
