Manager Gavin Metz has received critisicm from everywhere as he starts off the season with a horrible loss. Not much can be said about the game except for that the score says it all. The Board has stated that if changes dont occur fast, there may be changes happening again, especially because the Manager has spent the entire budget on new players to help the team win games. All that the manager has said is that the tactics and starting lineup will be changed, and a win is scheduled...

tonyba 2,608
Re: The Leamington Invitational Official Thread Crawley Town 1-0 Bristol Rovers. Practically a full house at Broadfield, witnessed Tony Baldo's first game in charge at Crawley Town end in a home win. Throughout the first half, Crawley were the better side but somehow went in at half time 0-0. Paul Thame's Bristol Rovers then created a few chances themselves in the second half, gaining more confidence in their attack. However, on the 81st minute Giampaolo Pazzini used blistering pace and strength to enter the box and fire home confidently. Final Score 1-0. (Debutant/MOM - Pazzini) "A 1-0 victory and we're top, shows how tight this league will be" - Assistant manager, Gianfranco Zola. leamingtonsteve

juve_fan 234
Re: The Leamington Invitational Official Thread Two on the Trot for Posh! 3 - 2 Posh recorded their second straight win with this 3-2 victory over a determined Grays Athletic. Gerard Pique sent the home fans wild after hitting the back of the net from 30 yards, just after 7 minutes. Robert Acquafresca doubled the lead with his 3rd goal of the season, after scoring from a tight angle, the ball took a deflection, but he will claim it. 2-0 after 31 minutes, with Posh dominating the game looked all but over, but after Cudicini parried away a long range shot, Santos Weldon tapped it in to make the scores level just 5 minutes before half time. Half-time saw no changes from either manager. And just after half time, American midfielder Michael Bradley grazed the bar with a free header. After 60 minutes, Jimmy Briand made way for 18-year-old Israeli forward Ben Sahar, who is a fan favorite at Posh. Sahar nearly made an instant impact, but he missed an open goal from the edge of the 6-yard box. 75 minutes in, and scorer of the opener Gerard Pique made way for Defendi Rodrigo. 79 minutes in, Posh put the game beyond doubt, with American midfielder Michael Bradley scoring only his second goal for Peterborough, with his long range effort taking a massive deflection, but a goal he will claim. Santos Weldon gave Posh another scare just before 5 minutes before full time, with his second of the game, and 3rd of the season. Robert Acquafresca was named Man of the Match with a rating of 9, that's his first ever Man of the Match since joining Posh for £5.8m at the beginning of last season. ^^ Robert Acquafresca got his first ever Man of the Match for Posh. Did you know... Tonight, with their second win in a row, Posh have equaled their longest winning streak. The record before was 2 wins in a row, from the 18th March 2007, to the 22nd March 2007. Also, £2.8m new man, 19-year old Michael Mancienne made his debut for Posh, with a 7 match rating. This season... We caught up with manager Juve_fan to see how he thought his team would do this season, here is what he told us: "I expect us to win promotion, simple as that. It would be nice to actually win a cup game at the 4th time of asking, but that is not a priority. Next up we have unmanaged Cowdenbeath, who are joint bottom, and haven't scored a goal yet this season, but we will not underestimate them, they will come at us, and we will have to be prepared." leamingtonsteve, gadga and tonyba
Sir Metz 267
Re: The Leamington Invitational Official Thread The Raith Rovers receive their first taste of sucess this season as a 4-3 win goes thier way in an incredible match that lasted all the way into the dying minutes. After going down by 2 goals from McBride and Koller, Arjan De Zeeuw came up big with after an error allowed to him to slip through the defense. Several more chances camefor both sides ut ended with 2-1 at the half. The Rovers fell down by another goal once again to make it 3-1 after McBride got his second from a brilliant ball. Then everything happened to go right for the Rovers as things started to click. Gomis came up big from 25 yards out to beat the keeper. Then to tie it up at three, De Zeeuw score again in the 71st minute. Just as the game was coming to an end at a tie, the MoM Savo Milosevic, the latest signing of the Rovers, scored to win the game late from a beautiful header. Manager Gavin Metz stated that he is exstatic that the changes made worked out for the best. He knew this would be a tough match heading away from home, but the squad came together. Now that Milosevic has scored, he expects more from him in the coming matches, and the team plans to help him. Perhaps a successful season can occur, but we will not find out untill their next match! leamingtonsteve
tonyba 2,608
Re: The Leamington Invitational Official Thread Notts County 0-1 Crawley Town. Second game in charge for Tony, second win and they're placed second in the league. Left Winger, Antonio Fillipini got the games first and his 5th since joining last season with a well placed header on the 15th minute. Chances did continue with both clubs hitting the woodwork but with out any luck, Notts were unable to break the experienced back four of their visitors. MOM was awarded to Pazzini again. 34 year old, Antonio Filippini with the games only goal Managers Comments - "The games gone our way again but there are a few disappointing things we'll begin to work on. Notts do have bigger names at the club but our approach was spot on. We're not playing the football that every fan will want but if it gets us trophies, then I'm sure they won't complain. Wrexham are next, managed by the experienced Lee Byrne, we can't underestimate them. They're in a bad position but they'll want to get out of it as soon as possible, I'm expecting our big names to stay focused on our own position and win the game." pthame 3d 295
Re: The Leamington Invitational Official Thread Thame Speaks!!! In a rare interview with the Bristol Rovers manager, who has returned after a brief retirement leaving assistant manager Paul Trollope in charge of the first team, Paul Thame has come into the limelight giving his insight on his hopes for season four. "So, thanks for giving up some of your time, Paul, and let me first say, welcome back," Thank you "First thing's first... why return now?" Well, returning now seems to me, the best time to come back. Some say I was wrong to leave the team halfway through last season, many say that's the reason for the 9th place finish last season. But I say sod them! I'm back and better than ever, and to all teams in D1, WATCH OUT!!! "Season four's not long started. We expected you to go on a spending blitz like the past three seasons. Any new signings?" Well, a combination of the chairman being a stingy bugger and an already decent squad, I decided to bolster the defence a little. I decided to raid one of my favourite clubs, Manchester United for a nice little transfer to replace Karel Rada in central defence. He is Mikael Silvestre, and he looks forward, after three seasons, to finally have a chance in the Leamington Invitational. "Last question. Where do you see the team at the end of the season?" The team's desperate for silver this season. Nothing can satisfy the club's desire for a trophy this season. We'd like to re-win the cup again, but looking through some of the bigger clubs in the leagues, I'd say we'd have a tough job, but we'll take each game as it comes, and hope to win as many as we can. Laslandes scored two on the Rovers to keep the score level as Da Rocha and De Zeeuw scored to do the same. The Rovers advanced to 7th in the tables after securing a point from their match. Unfortunately, Prosperi is out due to a red card, and Muaro Gomes recieved a fractured foot, putting two starters on the bench in the future.
