tonyba 2,608
Re: The Leamington Invitational OfficCial Thread Crawley Town 2-0 Gretna. Gretna were sent home without anything after a fairly impressive performance from the home side earned them a 3 point lead at the top of the table. With 16 from a possible 18 points, would there be anything for Baldo to complain about? On the night, the meeting between first and second began as well as hoped, Franck Jurietti's sublime effort curled into the far post, after just 13 minutes. Chances did continue and when Antonio Fillipini rose the highest there was no doubt that he'd get his 4th of the season. Tony Baldo interview... Even though it's only been 6 games, are the fans and players at Crawley now expecting a league trophy? Expectations are high as always. We're all confident but if we set our expectations too high then the pressure may be too difficult. The belief is definately for everybody, I prefer that. Conceding just 3 in the league, would you then say your defence is the strongest area at the club? Well, I just think it's clicked so well at the back. The goalies done amazing and I'm overwhelmed with how well Jurietti's done at wingback. However, I actually think the strike pairing has been most successful, Pazzini has showed game in game out that he has an amazing mind and working off Montella has also been beneficial for him. Some suggest that an injury in several areas would severely hurt your title chances, would u agree at all? I can't answer that until or if it actually happens. I've got to have faith in the backup, there's enormous experience but a lack of confidence and fitness is always a possibility. (Facundo Sava has suggested that he wants to leave because of the lack of games, despite the managers anger, Loan?.) Crawley Town suffer their second consecutive league loss and have blamed the fact that nearly the whole squad is lacking fitness. However, Crawley do still remain top but after a recent interview with Tony Baldo, it wouldn't seem that way. "We'll be resting almost all the players who usually feature so it can help us after the Torquay game. After the game, it'll be back to normal, our team will be fit and then our title challenge will restart. Our reserves will have to do something special to get something out of the game but we'll have to wait and see, I am trying to remain optimistic." tonyba 2,608
Re: The Leamington Invitational Official Thread Crawley Town 3-1 Torquay United. Despite being top going into the game, Crawley Town had suffered two consecutive losses and fielding a much weaker team were expecting to lose again. However, the teams key player for the game, Facundo Sava converted from a great long ball with an even better volley. The crowd were then the loudest they've ever been and clearly motivated Villa who then made it 2-0 on the 27th minute, with a perfectly drilled shot from over 20 yards out. In the second half, Kerimogly Tugay rapped it up with a diving header at the back post. Nikolay Dimitrov did attempt to restore some hope for the visitors but it was definately too late. Crawley XI - Hahnemann 88 Strande 80 E Viveros 83 Cassetti 89 Tugay 88 Villa 87 Del Prato 83 Ávalos 80 Berger 85 Taarabt 78 Sava 88 Blue = Loan. Newly appointed coach, Pierluigi Casiraghi had this to say, "Before the game, Me, Gianfranco and Tony had long discussions how we could actually win without so many key players (lacked fitness). It all seemed to go how we wished and we're all really proud. I don't think it'll be like this for the remaining games but if we continue to approach the games confident then we'll of course have a better chance of lifting the league trophy." tonyba 2,608
Re: The Leamington Invitational Official Thread Bristol Rovers 0-5 Crawley Town All the attention in division 1 turned to this game as first met second with just 3 points separating the clubs, there was no doubt that the 9,783 spectators were in for an enjoyable game. After just 8 minutes, Henrik Larsson should of put Rovers ahead, his delicate chip crashing off the crossbar. It was Pazzini who opened the scoring though, placing a header past the poorly positioned Fontana. Two minutes later, it was 2-0. Facundo Sava's miss hit shot somehow went under the keepers body but the Striker didn't show any remorse for Fontana, celebrating with the fans behind the goal. Going into the second half, things only got worse for Paul Thames men. Claudio Suarez's red card was followed by a third for Crawley, this time it was Hamann. On the 59th minute, Antonio Fillipini got his name on the score sheet, turning quickly to fire a low shot into the bottom corner. With 5 minutes left, Sava revealed the trademark mask, after getting his second and the games final goal, shooting from an acute angle. Managers comments - ""I know if we win the league, I'll look back at this game as probably the best result. Considering we were away and playing a team who were second it was always going to be tiring and difficult. I've got huge respect for their coach, this thrashing could be what motivates us to go all the way. There's still a long wait though and our job will be to prevent the four other challengers from taking the top spot. A win against Notts County is expected."
