Re: Premier League Discussion Thread

Just out of interest (I'll probably do it again after the transfer window closes) what would your best new signing transfer XI be?

I'm doing mine based on buying from outside of the Prem.

Stekenelberg

Amorebieta - Lovren - Pieters

Wanyama

Navas - Fernandinho - Paulinho - Schurrle

Negredo - Jovetic

Subs:

Adrian

Muniesa

Okore

Van Ginkel

Deulofeu/Giaccherini (as Deulofeu is a loan signing)

Van Wolfswinkel

Bony

What is noticable is that defensive signings have been pretty weak on the whole.

Rat not even on the bench ? I'd have him in my first 11 anyday, a player that has won so much including the Europa League. Other than that, I can't argue with any of it.

Yeah I considered Rat, quite liked him for a few years. Looking back on it I think him on the bench would have been the right call.

These are certainly the best players signed in the transfer window, but if this were a real team playing in the Prem, I'd take out Pieters for Okore, Wanyama for De Guzman (and drop either Paulinho or Fernandinho deeper), and Van Wolfswinkel for Leroy Fer.

Can't really argue with the above. The worrying thing (for the Premier League overall) is that a lot of these players are in this fantasy team by default.... Not a lot of top quality has come in so far. :o

Compare the above with players who have moved this summer but NOT to a Premier League club and the gulf in class is scary.....

Reina

Marquinhos - Benatia - Sokratis

Gotze - Thiago - Mkhitaryan - Isco

Cavani - Falcao - Neymar

Subs -

Higuain

M Gomez

J Rodriguez

Moutinho

Strootman

Aubameyang

Belhanda

Payet

Mertens

Tevez

Worrying for the status of the English game.

EDIT - Interesting that the defensive talent on the move is the weak link in both teams.

It's crazy how many good strikers have moved club, with that list only getting bigger with the likes of Rooney and Suarez possibly moving club, crazy transfer window!

Only really fair if you go league by league rather than PL vs. everyone else. I think the PL has a lack of marquee signings but more strength in depth. Think I read that 68 players have moved from La Liga to England already this window, although I can't remember where :)

Re: Premier League Discussion Thread

I don't think any league has really caught up with the Premier League through there signings to be fair maybe individual teams have improved but no league has seen the lower end teams spend and strengthen like the EPL.

Hooper to Norwich it seems, was pretty clear that a EPL team would match QPR's bid especially with the interest in recent windows. Think for £5M it's another good signing from Norwich he's proved he can score goals at League one, Championship, SPL and has a few in Europe. Along with that it looks as if Norwich have improved there frontline in RVW and the general goal threat with the signings of Redmond and Fer plus they already have Snodgrass who's great going forward imo.

Southampton are being linked to Spurs versatile defender Kyle Naughton to offer back up and a better level of competition at full back. Can see this being a good move for Saints they need another defender in general and one to offer some pressure to Clyne in particular. Haven't seen any fee being rumored just a very good source on twitter linked the player stating strong interest.

Re: Premier League Discussion Thread

Cisse stays after a compromise was reached between him and NUFC,felt the whole thing was ridicolous all along quite frankly as both Ben Arfa and Tiote are Muslim yet didn't object to it,I felt it was just an excuse to move which he didn't end up getting.

Now just to get one of Gomis/Remy.

Le Toon, another French player? Might want to broaden your horizons a bit, it isn't 1998.

I'm being a bit mischievous but the marquee or 'in-demand' players are severely lacking.... And surely to improve in order to compete in the Champions league you need to get better than what you had which I don't think any english side has (you can argue for Chelsea as Schurrle is a very good player and they have not lost any key players from last season yet).

Other than Chelsea, for me (so far)...

City - in's versus out has not improved the first XI, though the overall 'fit' may be better as Tevez is a prat.

United - Zaha could be good but he ain't a leap forward at this stage.

Arsenal - nothing doing.

Liverpool - appear to be going backwards (Reina and possibly Suarez now on his way)

Spurs - Paulinho looks a good addition but if they lose Bale will be severely weakend

I just worry that for whatever reason the English league seems unable to attract the very top tier of player. You can argue these players are only going to the likes of PSG and Monaco for cash but Chelsea & City are mega-rich and could afford them. Arguably?

Re: Premier League Discussion Thread

Pappiss Cisse and Newcastle have reached an agreement in order for the player to wear the 'Wonga' kit and training strip.

His religious views obviously aren't that strong if he's now going to do a complete U turn regarding them.

He's been given a vip membership to his favourite casino. That or Anzi are not interested anymore :D

Pathetic.

I guess it was just a way to get some more money then I guess...

Perhaps just some negotiation leverage in the future, so he'll do the club a favor now and he'll get his transfer away when he wishes for it? :P

Re: Premier League Discussion Thread

I have got such a strong despise for that newspaper, it is unreal. I don't even know how anyone can read it or take it seriously.

"Fab would love to join Moyes". Definitely. He has told "friends in English football" that. One hell of a source.

I have heard Cesc has told friends that he wants to join City. There you go. Same credibility. Problem is that I don't earn money with that ....

That pic on the right is embarrassing alright :D

Capoue and Moreno both in advanced talks with cardiff

Also had a bid for Brayford accepted with a young' date='keeper from brentford having a medical :)[/quote']

Toulouse is in advanced talks with Cardiff over Capoue, Capoue himself is quite reluctant to join Cardiff apparently! He's too Good for Cardiff anyway!

Agree he is at the moment but the ambition the staff at the club have are big , Vincent Tan (owner) has stated he wants cardiff to be up there in a few years time , and he's willing to splash the cash.

I believe the way he's thinking is great but not realistic any time soon

I believe if they sign him and Moreno other players will be more attracted, the first few are always the hardest
