GC 119 Real Betis Road To Glory

Recommended Posts

Following the sacking of Víctor Fernández and amidst rife speculation, Kari Haner was announced as the new manager of Real Betis. "The goal is simple - i will guide this club through the Segunda División and make them champions of La Liga and then the World. I will bring in some of the most exciting talent available and make Betis the greatest team of all time."

James Rodríguez

The 18 year old Colombian superkid is regarded as one of the brightest young talents around. He had been playing for Argentinian side Banfield and was a key figure playing in every single game for them as they won the Primera Division for the first time in their history. He was widely expected to sign for Porto before Betis persuaded him to sign for them instead. Likened to both Cristiano Ronaldo and James Bond he is likely to be a massive hit at Betis.

Rafael Tolói

Toloi is a 19 year old Brazilian defender who has signed from Goiás. Betis have swooped in and grabbed the player from right under the nose of AC Milan who looked favourites for the players signature. He should prove to be a rock at the heart of Betis's defense.

Guedes Marcelo

Another Brazilian defender who will pair up with Toloi at the centre of the defense. The 23 year old had been playing his football in Poland with Wisla Krakow and jamp at the opportunity to sign for Betis.

Franco Jara

Another South American this time in the shape of Argentinian Franco Jara. Aged just 21 he has received 3 full caps from the Argentine National team, scoring one goal. The striker was reportedly close to sealing a move to Benfica but at the last minute Real Betis persuaded him that Spain was the right destination for him.

Robert Lewandowski

Another player drafted in from Poland, 21 year old Lewandowski had been playing for Lech Poznań and had a fantastic scoring record, scoring 32 goals in 58 appearances for the club. He was strongly linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund but again Betis managed to secure his signature first.

Milan Badelj

The 21 year old Croatian playmaker has joined from Dinamo Zagreb. Likened to Luka Modric, whom he replaced in the Dinamo team, Badelj is likely to be a thorn in the side for every opposition. Manchester United were reportedly chasing his signature and SAF is said to be heartbroken on missing out.

Ivan Perišić

Another 21 year old Croatian midfielder. Perišić had been playing for Club Brugge in Belgium before completing his switch to Betis. He is expected to forge an exciting partnership with his International teammate

Laurent Ciman

The Belgian defender was close to sealing a move to Standard Liège but again Betis managed to get in there first. Despite having his critics Ciman is desperate to make an impact at Betis and prove his doubters wrong.

Naoki Yamada

Yamada is a 19 year old Japanese wonderkid who had been playing for Urawa Red Diamonds. He has been regarded as the most exciting young player to have ever come out of Asia and will be looking to show Europe what he is capable of.

Giedrius Arlauskis

The 22 year old Lithuanian international Goalkeeper will be Betis's #1 this season. He has attracted interest from several Premiership clubs but Spain was his prefereed destination.

Yassine El Ghanassy

The 19 year old winger has signed from KAA Gent where he established himself as a vital part of their first team. He was very highly rated in Belgium will be hoping to make the same kind of impact in Spain.

Filip Đuričić

Đuričić is an 18 year old Serbian midfielder who comes with a very high reputation. He had reportedly agreed to sign for Manchester United however the English club were not able to secure a work permit for the star.

Betis have also brought in a further 9 players into their youth setup and have promised plenty more signings once they have managed to shift some of their "deadwood" on.

Excitement was at fever pitch as the long awaited start to the Segunda División kicked off.A frenzied media greeted the Betis team on arrival at Nuevo Colombino as the world couldn't wait to grab a glance at the much hyped future of football as promised by manager Kari.

As the action got underway Real Betis went straight for the jugular, attacking with vim and flair. Franco Jara in particular impressed from the start, narrowly missing with a beautiful overhead kick before pleasing the crowd with some magic on the ball. The constant barrage of pressure eventually came to a head as Robert Lewandowski grabbed his first goal in his new colours.

A great through ball from Rodriguez put Lewandoski through as he confidently slotted the ball passed the keeper. Three minutes later Ivan Perisic showed what he is capable of after skipping inside his marker and curling in a 25 yard shot. As the half-time whistle went Betis players hardly wanted to leave the pitch while Recreativo players trudged off no doubt fearing another 45 minutes of complete domination from Betis.

Into the second half and there was no let up from the visitors as they continued to take the game to their opponents. Lewandowski grabbed his 2nd goal shortly after with an amazing strike. James Rodriguez grabbed the goal of the game after some neat intricate passing on the wing followed by a superb lofted finish over Guaita.

Into the last 20 minutes and Betis looked to take advantage of a tired and demoralised team as the pushed for more goals. Lewandowski obliged with his hat-trick goal after he nonchalantly lobbed over the keeper. El Ghanassy scored a screamer into the roof of the net on the half volley to make it 6. With 5 minutes remaining Lewandowski helped himself to a 4th after a thunderous low drive from 20 yards out. The victory was sealed by Milan Badelj with a terrific header to put the gloss on an outstanding display from Real Betis.

Manager Kari was understandably delighted with the performance "We were fantastic today and the scoreline didn't even flatter us. I thought it might take us awhile to gel as a team but if thats how we play when we haven't gelled then i cant wait to see how we play when we have!"

The only disappointment to an otherwise impeccable day was Ivan Perisic who came off injured with a hamstring strain and will now miss 5 weeks of action.

Real Betis 2 - 2 Las Palmas

F.Guerrero (7)

F.Jara (18)

Y.El Ghanassy (41)

A.Suarez (68)

Expectations were high as the new look Betis played in front of their home support for the first time. Buoyant after a magnificent 8-0 win on the opening day Betis were caught cold on the counter when Javi Guerrero scored to stun the home crowd. Betis werent rattled however and kept pressing and soon after Franco Jara got his first goal for Betis with a magnificent volley. El Ghanassy put Betis ahead just before the break with a superbly placed header from the corner.

Into the second half and there seemed to be only one team playing football as Betis thrilled their home fans with some outrageous football. Las Palmas however sat back waiting to pounce. And in the 68th minute as Betis pushed for more goals they were hit on the counter, goal machine Suarez received the ball and used his pace to sprint past the defender and silence the home supporters with a great finish. As much as Betis pushed to get the winning goal they couldnt break down a stubborn defence and the game finished 2-2.

To add to Betis's injury woes Rafael Toloi limped off with a hamstring injury and will now be out for 3-4 weeks.

Real Betis 3 - 2 Cádiz

R.Lewandowski (9 28)

Y.El Ghanassy (42)

D.Tristan (53)

M.Toedtli (67)

With the pressure off and expectations lowered a little Betis managed to relax and showcased some thrilling football. Robert Lewandowski grabbed his 5th and 6th goals for Betis, his first was a great team as some slick one touch interchanging passing left Lewandowski through one on one with the keeper to finish with aplomb. His second came as a result of James Rodriguez being brought down in the box and Lewandowski duly converted the subsequent penalty. El Ghanassy scored a beautiful 25 yard curler to make it 3 in 3 for him.

Betis were cruising at half time and seemed to take their foot off the gas and go into auto pilot. As a result of some slack defending Cádiz got back into the game thanks to Diego Tristan. In the 67th minute the comeback was well and truly on as Toedtli made it 3-2. Betis though managed to hold on for the 3 points and in a game they should have comfortably won they almost threw it away.

Betis complete £10M swoop for Utrecht duo

Real Betis have managed to land highly rated Rick Van Wolfswinkel and Gianluca Nijholt from FC Utrecht on a deal reported to be worth around £10M to the Dutch club.

Van Wolfswinkel

Ricky Van Wolfswinkel is a 21 year old forward who is very highly rated in the Netherlands. He is terrifyingly quick and has a deadly shot on him. At over 6 feet tall he is also a real danger from set pieces. Fellow Dutch man Wesley Sneijder has been quoted as saying "Ricky is an immensely talented player and will be Netherlands future no.9 for many years to come.

Gianluca Nijholt is a 20 year old all action central midfielder. He has an outstanding array of passing abilities and for his age has a surprising knowledge of the game and looks as though he is a seasoned veteran. He is said to be delighted at the opportunity to join Betis and hopes he can impress the manager enough to get a chance in the first team.

Parejo is a product of the Real Madrid youth academy and has impressed since moving to Getage. The 21 year old was expected to move back to Madrid at some point however he has signed a 5 year contract with Real Betis. Kari is delighted at this signing and says her squad is almost complete for the season ahead. "We may delve into the transfer market once or twice more - primarily to find a defender - though we wont rush in and will wait until we can find good value for money." Asked about the start to the season she replied "Well its been ok all things considered, we have suffered long term injuries to several key players including our first choice centre backs, though we have battled on and are still unbeaten. We are happy to have crashed out of the domestic shield as it was an unwanted distraction, our only goal is promotion - nothing less is acceptable and nothing less will be delivered."

Betis record back to back wins for the first time this season with a 6-0 thrashing of Villarreal B. Japanese starlet Naoki Yamada grabbed his first goal of the season after only 9 minutes. James Rodriguez grabbed his first goal of the match with a wonderful solo effort on the half hour mark. New signing Daniel Parejo gave the traveling support a glimpse of his talents with a majestic chipped goal before half time.

The Colombian sprinted through on goal before smashing in his 2nd goal, and then completed his hat-trick in style with a terrific long range effort.

Betis remain unbeaten in the league, though sit 2nd on 15 points through 7 games.

Younès Belhanda

Betis have captured the signature of 20 year old French midfielder Younès Belhanda from Montpellier HSC on a deal reported to be worth around £4.7M.

Meanwhile Kari has also confirmed they had reached an agreement to sign Argentinian defender Nicolás Otamendi from Velez Sarsfield however an unexpected change of management at the Argentine side scuppered the deal.

Spanish wonderkid César Azpilicueta has shocked the world by agreeing to join Real Betis on a 5 year deal. The 20 year old wingback is one of the hottest property's around having greatly impressed in his 99 appearances with Osasuna. Many of the big clubs had been keeping tabs on the player but it was Betis who splashed the cash to land their man. Betis breezed past another opposition as they thumped 5 past Gimnàstic. Franco Jara set Betis on their way after a mix up in midfield let him run through on goal unopposed to confidently place the ball past the keeper. James Rodriguez continues his fine scoring form 4 minutes later with a wonderful curling free-kick. Ricky Van Wolfswinkel was handed a rare start and keen to impress he grabbes his first goal for Betis. As Gimnàstic went on the attack a simple long range clearance out of defense was delightfully plucked out of the sky into his stride by RVW who then ran on and chipped beautifully over the goalie.

Into the second half and Daniel Parejo made it 4-0. Gimnàstic were to get a late consolation goal though Betis got the last word as Yamada smacked in the 5th.

Betis raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Yamada and Marcelo's first for the club. Daniel Parejo picked up an injury after some ferocious tackling from Levante. The match in the end petered out and Betis took the points.

Celta Vigo 0 - 2 Real Betis

R.Van Wolfswinkel (40 83)

Despite Betis' injury woes they continued their fine start to the season with a comfortable win against Celta Vigo. After impressing in the previous match rising Dutch star Ricky Van Wolfswinkel retained his place in the first 11, and continued to show his potential with 2 wonderful goals. The first came just before half time with an outrageous long range toe-poke and his second came in the closing stages. As Vigo pushed on for the equaliser Betis hit them with a classic counter. Van Wolfswinkel showed his pace with a lung busting gallop from his own area, collecting the ball on the half way line before darting into the opposition's area, turning inside the hapless defender and then finishing deftly with his left foot.

In another thrilling game of football at the Manuel Ruíz de Lopera, Betis continued to impress, though showed some considerable defensive frailties as the game wore on. On his return from his long injury obtained on his impressive debut Ivan Perisic returned with a bang. His first goal of the game came in the 26th minute with a wonderful lobbed header into the back of the net.

In a closely fought contest in front of a sell out crowd at the Nuevo Los Pajaritos, Betis managed to sneak a 2-1 victory. Milan Badelj scored a picture perfect header to make it 1-1 before Francisco Pena stunned the home crowd again by putting Girona in front.

With 15 minutes to go the message from the dugout was clear, attack attack attack. With 15 minutes to go Japanese starlet Naoki Yamada equalised with a neat finish, and 3 minutes later Betis were in the lead as Ivan Perisic nonchalantly lobbed the onrushing keeper. Man of the match Franco Jara sealed the win with a rasping screamer from outside the box.

Real Betis have signed tough tackling holding midfielder Bakary Saré from RSC Anderlecht. The Belgian is believed to have cost Betis somewhere in the region of £5M. Kari is delighted to have snapped up the 20 year old "Our team is very attack minded, we have been playing without any defensive minded midfielders and subsequently we have been leaking goals. Our attack has managed to paper over the cracks so far but we had been struggling lately. Bakary will go straight into our first team to help out the defense and now we have sorted our problem position i am very confident we can go on to dominate this league".

The football world is in shock today as Real Betis pulled off a sensational coup by bringing the worlds most sought after player to the Manuel Ruíz de Lopera.

All the worlds top clubs had been trying to sign the 18 year old Brazilian superstar from Santos, but amazingly it was Real Betis who pulled of the stunning transfer. He is very highly regarded and widely expected to be the best player in the world for many years to come. The forward recently picked up his first senior cap for Brazil and rounded off a stunning performance with a debut goal.

As well as signing the Brazilian superstar Betis have also landed another major signing:

Vladimír Weiss has joined from Manchester City for a fee believed to be £12M. The 20 year old has picked up 13 caps for Slovakia and the tricky winger is exactly the kind of player Betis have been crying out for and is expected to go straight into the first team.

Kari has revealed she is "absolutely delighted" with these new signings and cant wait to get working with them.

With the eyes of the world watching the pressure was on Betis, and in particular Neymar to live up to the expectation. The first half of the game was a very evenly contested affair, with Betis seeing more of the ball but failing to capitalize on the few opportunities that came their way. Into the second half though Betis immediately grabbed themselves a goal. Neymar put through Jara with an inch perfect pass and the Argentine striker made no mistake as he drilled the ball into the back of the net. The goal seemed to relax Betis and they started to play more of the brand of football we have come to expect from them.

James Rodriguez had a great chance on 60 minutes but fluffed his lines, whilst Vladimir Weiss' stunning free-kick smacked off the upright. With 15 minutes to go Betis couldnt find that crucial second goal and Cádiz started to get back into the game. However with the weight of expectation carried upon his shoulders like a blessing rather than a burden, up stepped new boy Neymar to score a stunning debut goal. He received the ball on the left flank, before jinking one way then another, leaving a trail of defenders in his wake, before cooly slotting home and making himself an instant hero.

Cádiz pulled one back in the 87th minute to make it a nervous last few moments, but as the final whistle went the celebrations were fierce as Betis rushed to hail their new star, Neymar.

Real Betis have today landed two major signings. Italian goalkeeper Federico Marchetti was the first to arrive after he snubbed Inter Milan for Betis stating that "Real Betis clearly have the better future, it is true i was close to a move to Inter but when Betis came in for me it was the easiest decision of my life." The 27 year old is seen as the long term successor to Gigi Buffon in the Italian national side and his top level experience should be vital for Betis.

Jimmy Briand

Betis' second signing is Jimmy Briand who has penned a 4 year contract with the Andalusian's. The 25 year old French forward is said to be relishing linking up with Neymar and the other stars at this club, and is said to have been very impressed with the clubs foundation and expansion model.

Meanwhile the draw for the first round of the Copa Del Rey has been made with Betis fans salivating at the thought of their team travelling to Camp Nou to play arguably the best team in the world right now. After watching the draw Kari told us, "This is a great opportunity for us to test ourselves against the best, and in the process gauge how far we have come in the short time i have been here. These are the games that everyone dreams about and i and all my players will relish this opportunity."

The tie is to be played on the 13th of September and is sure to be a belter.

A disappointing result for Betis as Barcelona smash 4 past them. Barca's quality showed as they sliced open Betis' defense on four occasions and scoring each time. However despite the result there were many positives to take out of the game. Betis came to Camp Nou and boasted more possession than their illustrious hosts, which is an extreme rarity. They also managed several more shots on goal as well as more on target but unfortunately it wasn't their day. The performance does bode well though for Betis' chances in La Liga next season, should they gain promotion this year, and the experience of playing in such a volatile environment against one of the worlds top teams could well prove invaluable to a lot of this largely inexperienced young team.

2 New Faces at Betis

Real Betis have splashed the cash again to secure the signing of two more hugely talented youngsters. First in was 21 year old Brazilian Bruno César from Corinthians. The attacking midfielder has had an exceptional season in Brazil scoring 10 goals in 19 appearances. Betis made the move to sign the player after their renowned Brazilian scout strongly advised them to buy the player at any cost.

The second player to complete his move to Betis is young Spaniard Víctor Ruíz. The 21 year old defender looks to have a very bright future ahead of him and could well flourish at this up and coming club. The combined fee for both players was said to be somewhere around the 12 million mark.

With the season edging closer to its climax Real Betis were looking for six points against two of their closest rivals. First off they travelled to the Capital to play Rayo Vallecano. Betis dominated much of the proceedings however they still had to rely on new boy Neymar to pull them back after twice going behind. Despite picking up a point against a tough opponent Betis will be kicking themselves for not picking up all three.

Next up for Betis was a home match against second placed Gimnàstic, the form team in the league. Gimnàstic raced to a 2 goal lead in the first half as Betis were simply diabolical. They didn't play much better in the second half either and there looked to be no way back into the game for them until Neymar got them out of jail with another deadly double. His first goal was a simple tap in but his second was a clinical left foot finish after some neat passing.

Betis hold a 10 point advantage over Gimnàstic in second with 10 games of the season remaining.

Re: GC 119 Real Betis Road To Glory

As Real Betis head up into La Liga, to compete against some of the best teams in the world, the goal for season 2 is simple - to firmly establish themselves as a credible top flight team with a top ten finish. To help them achieve this goal the chairman sanctioned an end of season spending spree, with the promise of further funds throughout the season as and when necessary.

Bad boys Joey Barton and Anthony Annan were controversially signed by Kari, as she looked to add some much needed steel to the midfield, which was sorely lacking last season. The tough tackling duo are expected to strike fear into opposing players and could play a key part this season.

Ander Herrera was signed to add a touch of class and flair to the Betis midfield. The 21 year old Spanish ace has already endeared himself to the Betis supporters after he turned down an offer to join bitter rivals Sevilla.

Betis also brought in some talent into their youth academy.

Betis fought off stiff competition from around the globe to snap up 15 year old wonderkid Saúl Niguez. Some other youth's to come in were Sergi Gomez, Benik Afobe, Nick Blackman, Alan Patrick and Guido Pizarro.

More signings are expected throughout the course of the season as Betis look to build on the excellent foundations now in place at the club.

Real Betis' pre-season preperations were disrupted with constant rumours of an imminent move to Chelsea for star striker Neymar. Numerous bids had said to have been made and supposed contact between the two clubs, however Betis have repeatedly stated the player is going nowhere. Neymar himself has declared he has no intention of leaving the club and wants to be a part of something special at Betis.

However with only 1 year remaining on his contract many believe Betis may be forced to cash in on their prized asset.

Neymar is currently sidelined with a fractured cheek bone and is likely to miss the first month of the new season - whether it be in Spain or England.

Betis kicked off their La Liga campaign with a terrific victory in a tough match against Mallorca. Valera had given the home team an early lead after only 2 minutes, and Mallorca continued to dominate the first half, but were made to rue missing some clear cut opportunities. Betis came out in the second half with a new formation and a new attitude, to attack, and it proved decisive. Jimmy Briand equalised early in the second half, before James Rodriguez and Franco Jara added a second and third to effectively end the match.

Betis' first home game of the season came against fellow promotee's Gimnàstic and resulted in an emphatic win for the Verdiblancos. Betis again started off slowly as they conceded a 4th minute goal, but since that moment they dominated the game completely. James Rodriguez and Franco Jara both grabbed a goal each but it was Frenchman Jimmy Briand who stole the show with a fabulous display of finishing, as he netted 4 goals against their hapless opponents.

After 2 games Real Betis had the honour of topping the La Liga table.

In a reversal of recent fortunes it was Real Betis who took an early lead this time only to end up on the losing side. In an entertaining attacking match it proved to be Deportivo's day as they hit 5 past Marchetti to send Betis home empty handed. Anthony Annan will miss the next 3 matches through suspension after picking up a red card for a professional foul.

Re: GC 119 Real Betis Road To Glory

The Real Betis president has today told the media that due to insurmountable debts at the club they will be forced to sell off their main asset - Brazilian Neymar da Silva. In a brief statement he told us"It is with regret i hereby announce that as a result of excessive debts at the club we have placed Neymar on the transfer list. We will listen to all offers and do what is best for this club going forward."

The revelation is set to spark a bidding war with a whole host of clubs said to be interested in the 18 year old.

The news is likely to cause shock and anger amongst the Betis supporters, who had been promised the player would not be leaving the club.

As yet both the player himself and the Betis manager have been unavailable for comment on the matter.

A furious Kari has reportedly issued the Betis President with an ultimatum - sell Neymar and i walk!

The Betis manager was said to have been upset following yesterdays shock revelation that the club were going to sell Neymar. Apparantly the club President had previously made assurances that the club was in a good financial state and they would not need to sell any players, however, with the news Neymar needs to be sold to finance the apparant massive debts at the club, it is clear that this had not been the case at all. Several clubs have now made official offers for the player and a deal is said to be imminent.

With the future of both the clubs manager and star player in severe doubt there could be dark days ahead for the Betis faithful.

With the problems off the pitch dominating the build up to this match it was a relief for the Betis players to get out and focus on matters on the pitch. However they were dealt a massive set back when, after only 2 minutes had elapsed, James Rodriguez got sent off for a horrific challenge. The remaining 10 players stuck together however and took the lead through man of the moment Jimmy Briand. Jose Edmilson levelled the match soon after though.

A goal either side of half time, courtesy of Parejo and Weiss, gave Betis a comfortable advantage and on 62 minutes Jimmy Briand scored his seventh goal in 4 games to put the result beyond doubt. A late consolation goal for Zaragoza did little to dampen the home side's spirits as they put their off-field problems to one side to pick up the 3 points.

Betis fell to their second defeat of the season with Athletic Club coming out on top. Goals either side of half time from Toquero and De Marcos put the basque side into a comfortable lead. Vladimir Weiss pulled one back late on before supersub Hadji came of the bench to grab his 4th goal of the season.

After the match a large number of Betis supporters staged a protestation outside their club presidents residence demanding that he step down. A spokesperson for the supporters trust told the media that the fans are 100% behind manager Kari, and believe that the President is trying to undermine the manager and derail their season.

After all the recent speculation about his future, Brazilian international Neymar has come out and declared he does not want to leave Betis. "I am more than happy here, this is a great club, with great fans and a great manager. I am looking forward to developing as a player here and i want to win things with this club. There is no club in the world i would rather be at than this one, i do not want to leave."

Neymar is currently recovering from injury and is expected to return to action in around 2 weeks time.

Re: GC 119 Real Betis Road To Glory

Real Betis have announced that "Makey Uppy" has been voted the clubs new President. Mr Uppy is a lifelong Real Betis fan and has told us he is delighted and honoured to be the new President. He stated that Betis are now completely debt free, and a small amount of money will be made available to the manager to enhance the squad, as well as all monies received by outgoing players to be reinvested 100% back into new players for the club.

Manager Kari is said to be delighted with the new President and the swiftness in which he was appointed, and is looking forward to working together to achieve the original goal for the club.

Betis have wasted no time in spending their transfer funds with the signing of French international defender Rod Fanni. Kari pinpointed the teams defence as their achilles heel and targeted the Hartlepool captain as the ideal signing to shore up their leaky backline.
