LATIN AMERICA SHIELD FINAL

SC Internacional [3] <> Toluca [5]

A sensational final at El Monumental

saw Mexican club Toluca, outscore the Brazilians of Internacional.

KEY MOMENT OF THE MATCH

A red card in the 60th minute for a disgusting 2 footed tackle from

Heiko Butscher, saw the Brazilians go down to 10 men.

Toluca were leading 3-2 at this time, yet Internacional still managed to score a third equaliser and make the score 3-3 in the 67th minute.

Then the Mexicans made their 1 man advantage count.

Goals from Barreto in the 72nd minute {to claim his hat-trick}

and

substitute Scocco in the 88th minute, sealed the victory.

STAR MAN

Simple.. Paulo Barreto.

In only his 4th match for Toluca, he scores a hat-trick in the cup final.

{Special mention for Javad Nekounam with 3 assists in his debut for Toluca tonight}

PRESS CONFERENCE

REPORTER

"Coach Nowinho, congratulations on winning the shield. How do you feel?"

NOWINHO

"I'm proud.

When I took control of this club only 3 months ago, Toluca was a mess.

The failures, underachievers and whipping boys of Latin American football.

One of the worst teams in World football for several years!!

Since then, we've rebuilt the squad and tried to give the fans a club they can be proud of.... The players have worked very hard.

This cup final victory restores some pride and respect.

I dedicate this win to our long suffering fans.

Re: Gold Championship 1 News

I have a tough decision to make!!

I've been offered the Real Madrid job, they have quality players and an insane amount of cash!

But my TSG Hoffenhiem team is my favourite Soccer Manager team, when I took them over they were bottom of the German 2nd division and had nothing in their squad and i've built them up from that!! I've managed them for 450 games, but only won one trophy... I was disappointed not to win the shield recently (well done James) and I've been struggling for a couple of seasons with my league form...

Not sure what to do...does anyone have any thoughts?

I'd stick with Hoffenheim - you've done a great job there mate. Whenever I've left a "project" side for a big club I've always regretted it and hence no longer entertain job offers on the whole.

Stick with Hoffenheim.

More of a challenge, more rewarding when you lead them to success!!

Re: Gold Championship 1 News

Merry Christmas GC1!

Spurs boss has been ignoring my PMs about Falcao for months so I must admit was pretty jealous when I saw that go through! :)

Going to be a great deal for you considering Veloso should drop and Falcao should increase. You've done a great job with your side.

I hope for you that the SMFA don't stick their beak in. I don't tend to post my deals on here much now through fear of it attracting unwanted attention - they seem to get reversed too much as it is - which is a real pity.

Most of my players are available though at the right price - drop me a PM if you are interested as I hate bouncing counters back and forth with the negotiate option!

Re: Gold Championship 1 News

I crashed out the SMFA cup tonight. 6-0 on aggregate. This is turning into my worst season ever, with four defeats in my last five (there have been many seasons where I wouldn't lose that much in all competitions over the whole seasons) and third in the league by some distance.

Had a big old rant about my SMFA cup games on the match engine thread although to be fair Real Sociedad are rolling aside just about everyone lately so well done to their manager.

As always am looking to do deals, PM me if you are interested although I really don't need cash.

***WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS***

MEXICO [1] <> BELGIUM [1]

Huge match in Group 11 tonight sees Mexico guarantee qualification for Argentina 2013.

VELA gave them the lead in the 53rd minute but GILLET scored a crucial equaliser in the 79th to clinch a vital point and keep Belgium's hopes alive!

The stunning result was Norway losing 1-2 at home to Iraq!!!!

With 1 game to play, Coach Jose Nowinho's Mexico are top of the group, 1 point ahead of Norway in 2nd.. And 3 points ahead of Belgium in 3rd.

Belgium play Norway next week, which means only 1 of these teams can climb above the Mexicans, so they are guaranteed to finish in the top 2.

PRESS CONFERENCE

[Reporter]

"Congratulation Coach Nowinho!!

How proud are you to lead Mexico to a World Cup finals?"

[Nowinho]

"It's a great effort to qualify from a tricky group.

Both Belgium & Norway are strong, tough opponents.

But we were consistent, only lost 1 game and the players played some terrific football."

[Reporter]

"Is there one match that stands out for you?"

[Nowinho]

"Easy.. The win away to Norway was essential.

They took the lead in this match but we fought back to beat them 2-1.

Those 3 points gave us a real chance to finish in the top 2.

[Reporter]

"What can Mexico achieve in Argentina?"

[Nowinho]

"We could win the whole damn thing.

We'll be there so we might as well try."

Red Star are on a decent run at the moment - despite a slip-up at Trabzonspor. Have opened up a 4 point gap at the top of the Med league and have one foot in the semi's of the SMFA Champions Cup - albeit fortuitously as the 5-0 win over Napoli in leg1 of the quarters was HIGHLY flukey as the stats were even.

LAST SIX MATCHES

Sat 5 Jan D1 [H] 3 - 1 Hajduk Split (Immobile x2, Chavez)

Wed 9 Jan D1 [A] 1 - 2 Trabzonspor (Zabaleta)

Sat 12 Jan D1 [H] 3 - 0 Panathinaikos (Baena, Kokorin x2)

Mon 14 Jan SMFA CC, QF, L1 [H] 5 - 0 SSC Napoli (Gomis x3, Bastos, Krasic)

Wed 16 Jan D1 [A] 4 - 2 Maccabi Haifa (Falcao x2, Kaka, Gomis)

Sat 19 Jan D1 [H] 7 - 0 Nacional da Madeira (Stankovic x2, Zabaleta, Valero, Cannella, Falcao, J.Pereira)
