In the first round of the Scottish cup Gretna edged past St Mirren who are also riding high after the opening few matches.

Richard Brittain's 18th minute opener for the Mirren was not the start Gretna wanted but a bad tackle from John Potter on 42 changed this cup tie.

The home side took control in the second period with debutant Jan Bruin netting twice in 12minutes before Jari Litmanens 74th minute strike put the game out of the visitors reach.

The next round sees Gretna away to Aberdeen.

As quickly as Gretna had risen at the beginning of the season, they seem to be falling as fast the opposite way as they crashed to a second consecutive league defeat. Unmanaged Kilmarnock came to Raydale and outplayed the hosts with two goals in the second half.

Gretna are 6th after six games played and face there toughest test in the next game against Kevs Celtic.

a good week for borussia picking up 4 points out of 6 and continuing to entertain their fans with some wonderful attacking football. the 4 points has them sitting 3rd in the bundesliga at this minute in time.

first up on wednesday was vfb stuttgart at a packed borussia park stadium. borussia won a 5 goal thriller in an open and entertaining match that showed all that is good about bundesliga football.

borussiapark89hf.jpg

all 5 goals were scored in 35 amazing first half minutes. jon dahl tomasson caught borussia's defence cold and sped away and lobbed landreau to give stuttgart an 11th minute lead. however the evergreen oliver neuville equalised 6 mins later after a scramble in the box. stuttgart re-took the lead through karimi in the 31st min. again however they were pegged back almost immediately, and what a wonderful goal it was too. neuville getting his 2nd of the day with a terrific overhead kick! a quick piece of thinking gave borussia the lead for good on the 35th min. a quick short corner was played to suazo at the corner of the box and he curled a shot beyond the keeper for the winner.

on saturday borussia were involved in another thriller. this time away to schalke it ended up 3-3. sosa who has been in fine form so far scored in the 1st min for borussia with a beautiful curling shot. unfortunately a blunder from landreau gifted schalke an equaliser on 22mins. manuel friedrich, up for a corner, slammed home in the 34th min to put borussia ahead again. back came schalke with altintop scoring a lovely solo effort. HT and the sides went in level at 2-2. 3 mins into the 2nd half and neuville finished off a beautiful passing move to give borussia the lead for the 3rd time in the match..

5695942_7_3.jpg

schalke equalised again for a final time. fabian ernst turning and drilling a low shot into the far post.

borussia have a bye in the first round of the german shield so their next match will be home to leverkusen on wednesday. eugen polanski picked up an injury against schalke and will be missing for the next 6 matches.

rumour has it that borussia are looking to add to their squad and are actively pursuing a target right now...

Re: Gold Championship 1 News

Kaiserslautern have had a decent start to this season, nothing they didnt expect, they are looking to build on last years finish of 7th. top 5 is what the manager is aiming for, he was given the funds, brought in the likes of:

Ivan Bosjnak

Carmine Coppola

Daniel Majstorovic

these 3 have been brought in, but he had an average start to the season, winning and losing 1 (vs Frasers Borussia) and drawing a couple, but after a convincing win with the 2nd team in the cup in midweek, that was followed by another win yesterday, by 1 goal to 0.

we are looking forward to the next few games...we often look at mathces from our glorious past, the famous 7-4 win vs Bayern, the 5-0 win vs Real, and the 3-1 win vs Barca from previous decades...we feel this inspires us to better things...the heroes are chanted around the stadium at half time...the likes of Karl-Heinz Feldkamp and Otto Rehhagel will not be forgotten!!!

RANGERS 2-3 CELTIC

Kevche led his side to yet another old firm victory over the champions in an ill-tempered clash at Ibrox that saw ten man Celtic make it a 3way tie at the top of the SPL.

Rangers have now suffered consecutive defeats for the first time since Cally took over, with this defeat coming hard on the heels of the catastrophic SM shield exit at the hands of Livingston and they will lock horns again this week as the Gers look to regain their form.

Gretna 2 - 0 Livingston

Gretna returned to winning ways and a jump upto 6th in the table after beating Livingston by two goals. A goal in each half was enough for three points with Blackstock on 25 and Jose Sierras second goal in a week on 61 wrapping things up.

Gretna do lose Jari Litmanen for three turns after collecting an injury as Gretna look to climb the league again.

Iverness 2 - 0 Gretna

Gretnas failure to put the ball in the back of the net through the course of this game lost them the game as Inverness had no such trouble with two goals in the second half. Wyness on 54 and Wilson on 71 secured three points for the managerless home side at Caledonian.

With two wins from there last six matches Gretna slump to 8th place but with only nine game splayed plenty of time to turn things around.

LeamingtonSteve was unveiled tonight as new manager of Birmingham City. A shocked Gretna chairman announced he had no idea this decision was coming despite the indifferent form Gretna had shown, they have vastly improved from the side he inherited.

LeamSteve was apologetic to the fans at Raydale Park but the chance to manage another midlands club was too irrisitable to turn down.

LS also would like to thank managers Kev, Cally, Perry and Steve and wish them all the best for dominence in Scotland.

Kaiserslautern had a very poor showing in the league this week, with 2 losses from 2. after a season which started with such promise for a top 5 finish, it had a dip here, with the team once again stuck in that mid table rut.

1st a 4-1 hammering at the hands of lukesrot-weiss essen. goals for the home side came from haeldermans (2), zuma and van lent. the away side mustered one of their own through rolando bianchi, the promising italian forward.

there was a midweek cup game though, their 2nd visit to Georg Melches in 1 week! this time however, their second string side was victorious, with sven muller scoring the only goal in the game.

the final game of the week, infront of the home fans welcomed nurnberg to town. a 12 min period in the 1st half really ended the game, with the visitors going 0-3 up through schroth(2) and 1 from luque. ivan bosnjak pulled one back late on, but it wasnt enough to seal a poor week in the league for kaiser.

next up for us, stuttgart away.
