Re: Gold Championship 1 News

Sam Pooley certainly had a tough match to start his Deportivo La Coruña carrier with a game away to Real Madrid. The game couldn't of started no better for him with Fabián Estoyanoff scoring in Deportivo La Coruña first meaningful attack of the game after just 7 mins Deportivo La Coruña were up. Deportivo La Coruña dominated the rest of the first half with many goal scoring chances, Real Madrid only had one half chance falling to Baptista but he blasted it well wide. 1-0 at he break and a good start for Sam Pooley, but it could have been many more. After the break Deportivo La Coruña came out the way they started the first half with a goal on the 60 mins by Angel Arizmendi this made it 2-0 and very difficult for Real Madrid to come back. It was then quite an even game but you could never see Real Madrid scoring 2 and in fact it went the other way with Fabián Estoyanoff scoring once again on 87 mins. Nothing really happened in the last 3 minutes. It ended up 3-0 at the Santiago Bernabéu, the obvious choice for man of the match would have been Fabián Estoyanoff because of his 2 goals but in fact the man of the match award went to Nistelrooy, Sam Pooley told us after the game he was disappointed that Fabián Estoyanoff did not get man of the match. Although he was disappointed with that he certainly wasn't disappointed with the result .

DEPORTIVO LA CORUNA - 3

REAL MADRID - 0

ARIAS SIR JONATHON OF BIRMINGHAM

Birmingham unveiled new signing Jonathon Arias after snapping him up for a cut price bargain at £3.0m. The 84 rated defender who can play anywhere at the back was discovered as a free agent and will slot into the back four in any position for blues boss LS.

Not much is known about the Mexican but he did spend some time playing at Toluca.

LEAGUE division two

Derby County 5 - 5 Birmingham City

Fans at Pride Park were treated to a ten goal bonanza as both sides played out a draw. Derby raced into a two goal lead with Sabah striking twice. Ristic found one back for the blues before Joao Pereira scored and took Derby into a three one lead at the break. Joel Huiqui scored his first goal in Birmingham colours in his second appearance to make the decifit one goal again. That lasted two minute as Derby restored there two goal advantage through Ambrosini. Birmingham then played there best 15minutes of the campaign netting three times through Dunn, Ristic and Pauleta to give the blues the lead five four. There was bound to be one final twist in this match and that came from Derbys equaliser when Larsson scored in the last minute.

One point from this match sees a drop to 7th in the league.

Before the game Birmingham named another new signing and probably the last till the seasons end as Chilean striker Patricio Galaz landed from Atalante. Costing £3.5m plus Yordi and David Edgar the experienced goalscorer should form a lethal partnership with Pauleta or Ristic.

Boca Juniors 3-4 Vasco De Gama

A second defeat in a row for new Boca boss Bryan Adamson who is still struggling for fit players. Boca went 3-0 down with Abedi, Yves and Kalynychenko scoring for Vasco. Boca pulled one back just befor half time when Marino scored a great right footed shot from just outside the area. Vasco scored just after half time when Abedi got his second of the game but Boca got one back just two minutes later when Donnet scored. Boca got another goal to make it 3-4 when MartÍnez volleyed past the helpless keeper. New Boca signing Luis Suarez had some good chances to draw his team level when he hit the bar and had a shot hit the side netting but fans were impressed with Adamson's £11 million new signing and will be expecting more from him in the future.

Boca Juniors 1-1 San Lorenzo

9472-Boca%20juniors%20badge.jpg

Another draw for Boca's youngsters who actually had double the shots on goal as the opposition but couldn't capitalise on their chances. They did take the lead when Claudio Morel Rodriguez beat the offside trap and finished well. However 8 minutes from time the away side drew level when Mauricio Molina ran through the Boca defence and confidently slammed a low shot past the advancing keeper. Boca are now 18th in the league table

What a ding dong battle!!!

Celtic hit seven at Livi, but it is still not enough to overtake rampant Rangers as they hit 10!!.

2 CELTIC 19 17 1 1 64 15 49 52

The old firm move clear of the rest at this early stage and it looks like who has the better shooting boots!!

4.gifBirmingham City 1 - 1 Sheffield Wednesday71.gif

LEAGUE division two

A warm spring day at St Andrews as Birmingham welcomed Sheffield Wednesday who are on a good run of form currently. A balanced opening between these sides saw chances for both sides. Wednesdays Chris Killen had looked threatening with a couple of well worked oppertunities. He was rewarded on 38 with the opening goal and what would turn out to be Wednesdays only chance on target. Birminghams new Chilean forward Patricio Galaz had his first chance in a blues shirt to level on 39 missing from 25yards out. The equalising goal did come shortly after when David Dunn lost his marker thumping the ball low under the keeper.

The second period was not as eventfull but Killen continued to look dangerous and Pauleta saw his effort fly over the bar from close range.

Unluckily for Birmingham there young onloan midfielder Paul Lawson from Celtic was injured and will miss ten turns because of a knock.

Two successive draws sees Birmingham drop to 8th with 32points.

An absolutely huge game next for Koln, German heavy weights Bayern Munich are coming to town. The first fixture of the season was this and koln came away with an unlikely 3 points. They will be looking for a similar performance to get into the european qualification slots

LEAGUE division two

0 - 1 Rasmus Wurtz

0 - 2 Sreto Ristic

0 - 3 Rasmus Wurtz

1 - 3 Graham Kavanagh

Despite victory Birmingham drop to 9th on 35points but three points is the gap to 3rd. Four wins in six games is good form to do that.

Birmingham capture the signing of young Argentinian midfielder Nestor Villalva and will be a fine addition to the clubs youth setup.

Loaned out from the youth setup Sebastian Larsson joins Dinamo Dresden for ten turns to gain experiance.

Boca Juniors 3-3 Independiente

Well nobody can say the Boca games are boring who, under the management of Bryan Adamson, have scored 14 goals in the past 5 games and conceded 15 goals themselves. Boca were 3-1 up after 13 minutes with Piotr Trochowski Daniel Diaz and Rodrigo Palacio scoring for the home side and Federico Insua for the away side. But Independiente drew level with goals from David Beckham and Lomano Lua-Lua who gained a point for their side.

Boca are now 16th in the league table.
