Official Bundesliga Discussion Thread 2010/11

341735-1_org.jpg

With the Bundesliga becoming stronger again and so more people might being interested in the Bundesliga I thought it would be a good idea to make a Bundesliga discussion thread for the upcoming season. Here you can discuss the transfers, the rumours, the matchdays, the goals, ... Everything that concerns the Bundesliga except the SM stuff (player ratings, etc).

In the previous season those things have mainly been discussed in the respective Bundesliga rating thread in the player ratings forum. But as I currently have some free time due to my semester break I decided to waste my time in creating this thread. ;)

The individual rated team part table

I have rated every team part of all teams individually – and on my special own opinion – and summed up the points. The ratings are 0 = very bad and 10 = very good. This can be seen in the following image.

bundesligabewertung.jpg

And according to this the table for the bare facts without my intention looks like:

1. Bayern München (42 points)

2. Bayer Leverkusen (40)

3. FC Schalke (38)

4. Werder Bremen (37)

4. Bor. Dortmund (37)

4. VfL Wolfsburg (37)

7. VfB Stuttgart (34)

7. Hamburger SV (34)

9. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (32)

15. 1. FC Kaiserslautern (26)

15. FC St. Pauli (26)

18. Hannover 96 (25)

And finally the table with my intentions how the team will do this season. Again 0 = very bad, 10 = very good.

1. Bayern München (51 points)

2. Bayer Leverkusen (47)

3. Werder Bremen (44)

3. Bor. Dortmund (44)

3. FC Schalke (44)

6. VfL Wolfsburg (43)

7. Hamburger SV (41)

8. VfB Stuttgart (40)

9. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (37)

10. Mainz 05 (36)

11. Eintracht Frankfurt (33)

12. Bor. M'Gladbach (32)

12. 1. FC Köln (32)

14. 1. FC Kaiserslautern (31)

15. SC Freiburg (30)

15. FC St. Pauli (30)

17. 1. FC Nürnberg (29)

18. Hannover 96 (27)

Almost nothing has changed. :(

However if you want to try your own prediction then download the xls-file here or make it on your own and post it here. Or just post your prediction on the final table. It will be fun talking about these predictions at the end of the season. And now: Discuss!

Re: Official Bundesliga Discussion Thread 2010/11

The main problem with Bayern is the central defence. And with the whole Van der Wiel saga coming to an end, and thus, Contento will be the starting LB and Lahm will remain as a RB and therefore, Badstuber will be pushed to the middle. The question is, who will partner Badstuber in the middle? Van Buyten and Demichelis aren't centre-backs who can lead you to a CL win, and that's what Bayern are really aiming for this season - the CL title. I mean, they should win the Bundesliga quite easily despite the big competition. But since the season starts soon, it would be abit of problem to make the players within the defence comftorable with a potential new defender partner. The centre of the defence is worrying to say the least.

100 % agree. Currently van Buyten is injured, so Bayerns' starting defense may look like this

Contento - Badstuber - Demichelis - Lahm

Though Demichelis being an international for Argentina I don't rate him very high. You can always expect him doing nonsense in the defense. Badstuber is still young and has proven in his first season that he is a solid CB but he needs an experienced partner so that Bayern has chances to win the CL. And neither Demichelis nor van Buyten are such partners as IMO Badstuber has been better than both last season. However I also think that the LB spot might be the even bigger problem. I doubt that Contento is the best solution.

There are rumours about Wolfsburg being interested in Diego (Juventus) and Elia (HSV). If Diego joins Wolfsburg I think Misimovic will probably move to Schalke.

Re: Official Bundesliga Discussion Thread 2010/11

Now this is interesting. Schalke sold Westermann and Rafinha (as you know) and Magath has said that he will bring in some quality players now. Wolfsburg has previously said no to Juventus bids for Misimovic, and let's face it, Wolfsburg aren't exactly in need of money. Back to Schalke, as I believe Magath will be using a 4-2-3-1 formation (he has been using it during the pre-season), with Edu-Baumjohann-Farfan as the 3 offensive midfielders supporting Raul upfront. Now, I think using Raul where Baumjohann is currently resident would be a better option. I mean, Raul isn't a natural topscorer as he used to be, but he has a brilliant vision for the game and I believe he could use it more if he plays right behind the lonely striker. This would also be good for the squad rotation as you'd have Baumjohann beeing a good alternative for Edu/Raul/Farfan. I'd like to see this formation and I think it would be better to spend the money on a goal-poacher like (Milito, Eto'o and Dzeko for example) and a defensive midfielder. A good choice as a striker would be Pantelic. I don't mean to say that he should be starting for Schalke and score 15+ this season, but as Schalke also competes in CL, it would be a good signing for the squad deep. He is also a free-agent at the moment, and he also knows Bundesliga quite well since his spell at Hertha Berlin. And as for the starting striker that I say is needed for Schalke I have no clue who they should be getting. There are some options for the defensive midfield aswell. I'd like to see perhaps Mahmadou Diarra/Rio Mavuba or even perhaps Gilberto Silva. All them could be realistic signings and I don't think they would so expensive either. M.Diarra is out of favour at Real Madrid and Gilberto Silva is getting on with the age (although he doesn't play bad), so surely they wouldn't be valued to high. Mavuba is only my personal dream signing. He is in the perfect age, has routine from European place and wouldn't do a bad job. To bad he is already at a good club in a good league and I doubt he would move to a club equal to Lille though.

My point is - I'd probably spend money on 1 DM and 1 superstriker + signing Pantelic for free to give some squad deep and routine, instead of signing Misimovic for the big cash.

Again I have to agree. It would probably be better for Schalke to sign 2 quality players instead of investing all in 1 - though I doubt that Misimovic will be that expensive. However I also think that buying a forward would be better than buying a AM like Misimovic. But Magath likes him - that's obvious.

Pantelic would be a good option or why not trying to sign Huntelaar?

Something else I found today. Eurosport is doing a teamcheck for the upcoming season and finished to rate 8 teams so far. The worst 8 teams in their opinion.

I believe Misimovic would be expensive beacuse Wolfsburg don't need the moneys and they are trying to milk those extra cash for teams that are interested in their players. Dzeko' date=' for example, is worth 40M € according to Wolfsburg. Not saying he is a bad player, but that's a ridicolous fee, really.

Yes, Huntelaar would be a great option, but I doubt Milan will sell him to anyone unless he is beeing used in a deal that takes Dzeko to us. I really think he should be given another shot at Milan. I mean, he played out of position and always scored when he played as a centre-striker.

Nice one. Could almost agree with your prediction. I just think that either Kaiserslautern or St. Pauli will do better. One of the promoted teams always plays good.

Speaking of Bremen... Arnautovic might be heading an early exit from the club. He has been critisized by both Frings and by coach Schaaf for his behaviour and not focusing well. They said it directly to the press!

I'm also curious how Arnautovic will do at Bremen. I'm pretty sure it would be the first time in soccer history that a ~6M € buy will leave the team due to being undisciplined after a few weeks. But as a Stuttgart fan' date=' I can only make this one: :D (though I don't dislike Bremen at all).

---------------------------------------------------

In an earlier thread I saw the following predictions goal.com made

Bundesliga Season Predictions 2009-10

Goal.com have looked at the runners and riders for the upcoming Bundesliga season and have made predictions for the new campaign…

Bundesliga Winners: Bayern Munich

Champions League qualifiers: Hamburg, Stuttgart

UEFA Cup qualifiers: Wolfsburg, Schalke

Relegated: Freiburg, Bochum

DFB Pokal Winners: Borussia Dortmund

Best Goalkeeper: Diego Benaglio (Wolfsburg)

Best Defender: Serdar Tasci (Stuttgart)

Best Midfielder: Franck Ribery (Bayern Munich)

Best Attacker: Mario Gomez (Bayern Munich)

Best Summer Signing: Mario Gomez (Bayern Munich)

Worst Summer Signing: Lukas Podolski (Koeln)

Golden Boot: Mario Gomez (Bayern Munich)

Best Youngster (Under-21): Marko Marin (Werder Bremen)

Player of the Year: Franck Ribery (Bayern Munich)

Coach of the Year: Markus Babbel (Stuttgart)

It's also very nice IMO watching those predictions after the season.

Just to name a few:

  • Hamburg and Stuttgart in CL and actually both normally wouldn't have qualified for EL (Stuttgart only because the both Cup final teams Bremen and Bayern qualified for the CL).
  • Best defender: Serdar Tasci? To be honest the past season was his worst one.
  • Best summer signing/Best attacker: Gomez? To be fair he had bad luck with his injury but I think he thought it would be easier at Bayern. However I still think he has the quality and he can show it next season.
  • Worst summer signing: Podolski? Yes!
  • And finally my favourite: Coach of the year: Markus Babbel? IMO he deserves the title worst coach of the first half year.

--------------------------------------------------

And in order to shame myself (in a year) I will also do some of the predictions (though they might not match with my earlier individual team part predictions):

Bundesliga Winners: Bayern Munich

Champions League qualifiers: Bremen, Wolfsburg

UEFA Cup qualifiers: Hamburg, Leverkusen

Relegated: St. Pauli, Hannover 96

DFB Pokal Winners: Bremen

Best Goalkeeper: Adler (Leverkusen)

Best Defender: Lahm (Bayern) [easy one as long he plays in the Bundesliga]

Best Midfielder: Ribery (Bayern München)

Best Attacker: Pizarro (Werder Bremen)

Best Summer Signing: Audel (Stuttgart)

Worst Summer Signing: Metzelder (Schalke)

Golden Boot: Pizarro (Werder Bremen)

Best Youngster (Under-21): Kroos (Bayern München)

Player of the Year: Franck Ribery (Bayern München)

Coach of the Year: Thomas Schaaf (Bremen)

Re: Official Bundesliga Discussion Thread 2010/11

Does this thread apply for 2.Bundesliga aswell? :D

If so... Hertha Berlin has looked great this pre-season. This job is perfect for Babbel. He just recently graduated from the training-school, and can really build up his repuation as a coach and wash away his reputation from Stuttgart. Anyway, I am really impressed with the way he has been letting these youths getting chances. Players like Bigalke, Lasogga and Djuricin have all been getting loads of minutes this summer and haven't made themselves look like fools, not at all, really. What impresses me with this is that even though everyone in Germany (and in the rest of the world, really) and with the high pressure on Babbel to take this squad directly to Bundesliga, he has been giving these youngsters several opportunities to prove their worth. I am really impressed by both the youngsters and Babbel.

And btw, Djuricin and Lasogga has so far scored 7 goals each in the pre-season :D

Re: Official Bundesliga Discussion Thread 2010/11

Can't wait for the Bundesliga to start up again:),as I follow Schalke(Sorry Phil:p) I hope they can do as well as last season but I very much doubt that, our squad has been weakened quite a bit over the summer and I think our midfield is quite weak to be honest,we have Rakitic who is good but I don't think any of the other midfielders we have are very good or unproven, upfront we have Raul,Farfan and Edu which I think is an OK lineup although I think I'd prefer to see someone else than Edu to be honest,I think we will get into the Europa League but the Champions League is a bit of a push to be honest.

Re: Official Bundesliga Discussion Thread 2010/11

@ Pazzano

I'm also curious how Babbel will do at Hertha. He has been a good coach at Stuttgart when the team was succesfull in the second half of the season 2008/2009, but he didn't intervene when many things went wrong in the team and when some players acted undisciplined - Hitzlsperger and Khedira told that in interviews they gave after leaving the club. So all in all Babbel couldn't stop the downward spiral.

------------------------------------------------------------

Today the first round of the German cup - the DFB-Pokal - starts. I really like the cup, especially the early rounds with the amateur clubs. Hopefully there will be some surprises as I normally support the small teams (except the team who plays against Stuttgart).

Re: Official Bundesliga Discussion Thread 2010/11

And Khedira was so close to score!

Khedira played the full 90 minutes - I have to say I'm a bit proud.

And after noone scored after 90 minutes they decided the match on penalties.

4-2 for Real.

C. Ronaldo, van der Vaart, Xabi Alonso and Benzema scored for Real.

Ottl and Badstuber scored for Bayern and Altintop and Braafheid missed.

So I have to say that Bayern has to blame themselves for loosing on penalties.

If you have enough Germans in your team then don't let shoot the Non-Germans. :D Something van Gaal still has to learn.

But Badstuber missed a penalty during the game aswell! :P

Anyway, I was impressed by Ribery. I mean, we all know how good his, but I'm impressed that he can play this good despite beeing in a big prostiution-scandal. I was also impressed by that Bayern II player who played RB (forgot his name, it started with an Ü though). He wasn't getting destroyed by Ronaldo and was pretty good there. Kraft, who's had a good pre-season with Bayern starting several matches, was aswell a starter in this game and play good once again. I'd personally perhaps letting him getting chances in the league game against those smaller club to see if he can play on the highest stage itself. If he plays good in the league aswell, I see no reason buying a new keeper.

Re: Official Bundesliga Discussion Thread 2010/11

Another few matches have been played in the first round of the DFB-Pokal.

FK Pirmasens 1 - 11 Bayer Leverkusen

Wacker Burghausen 0 - 3 Borussia Dortmund

SV Babelsberg 03 1 - 2 VfB Stuttgart

FC Oberneuland 0 - 1 SC Freiburg

SC Pfullendorf 0 - 2 Hertha BSC

Rot Weiss Ahlen 0 - 4 Werder Bremen

SC Verl 1 - 2 1860 München

Hansa Rostock 0 - 4 1899 Hoffenheim

Chemnitzer FC 1 - 0 FC St. Pauli

Only one real surprise. Chemnitz' victory against Bundesliga team St. Pauli.

Leverkusen was very impressive and Stuttgart (which I mainly watched) a bit disappointing. But I don't overrate the cup - especially not the first round at the beginning of a season.

Babbel's first official match as the coach of Hertha was successful.

Re: Official Bundesliga Discussion Thread 2010/11

Hey has anyone heard of Kicker Offenbach's Marko Reich?

No. Why? There has been a Marco Reich playing for Offenbach ~ 2 years ago.

---------------------------------------------

Aristide Bancé (former Mainz 05) moved to Al-Ahli Dubai.

---------------------------------------------

Timo' date=' or some other knowledgeable fellow, what do you think Bayern's midfield and attack will look like? Mainly interested as to which of the strikers are likely to get games :)[/quote']

If everyone's fit, I think it may look like this:

Olic/Müller

Ribery -- Kroos/Müller -- Robben

Schweinsteiger -- van Bommel

However I still can see Klose or Gomez displacing Olic up front.
