Stuart H 19,818
Re: Official Spanish La Liga Discussion Thread and Puyol? No spanish Captain???? He's not even played half of Barca's league games this season. I'm sure Xavi or Casillas will take up the captaincy brilliantly. I have two points: - That squad is sickeningly good; - What the hell does De Gea have to do to get picked?! Or is DDG being used by a youth side this summer?

It was a bit sad not seeing him in the Euro 2012 team .[/quote']Yeah-but difficult to get into the squad especially in those positions and Spains strikerless (well more correctly recognized #9) formation during that tournament He's not even played half of Barca's league games this season. I'm sure Xavi or Casillas will take up the captaincy brilliantly.I have two points: - That squad is sickeningly good; - What the hell does De Gea have to do to get picked?! Or is DDG being used by a youth side this summer? It is pretty good-bit surprised Cesar/Monreal from Chelsea/Arsenal is chosen but I guess they needed good squad players.. Well De Gea has been named in an experienced Spain squad for June's European Under-21 Championship in Israel' date=' so maybe thats the reason. "I understand about Isco, Thiago, [Cristian] Tello, [Asier] Illarramendi, Inigo Martinez. But we have preferred to keep with the ones who were with us recently. There are no reasons to leave them out."With Puyol not having recovered from a knee operation in March, the squad contains just three specialist centre-halves, but Del Bosque said other players could cover that position if required. "We have alternatives," he added. "There are full-backs who can play centre-half, midfielders. Puyol has not played. We have been in touch with him, and we must respect players' recoveries." http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/1461264/torres-named-confederations-cup-squad?cc=3888Quote from Del Bosque

Just checked the U21 squad. It seems that they spread the talent across both squads so that everyone gets a chance to play. Very smart. That leaves two very very good teams that could easily contest for both trophies. The only one that seems to have been left out is Negredo. Feel sorry for the lad Full U21 squad if anyone is interested: Goalkeepers: David De Gea (Manchester United), Diego Marino (Villarreal), Joel Robles (Atletico Madrid). Defenders: Marc Bartra (Barcelona), Dani Carvajal (Bayer Leverkusen), Nacho Fernandez (Real Madrid), Alvaro (Real Zaragoza), Inigo MartÃnez (Real Sociedad), Marc Muniesa (Barcelona), MartÃn Montoya (Barcelona), Alberto Moreno (Sevilla). Midfielders: Thiago Alcantara (Barcelona), Ignacio Camacho (Malaga), Sergio Canales (Valencia), Asier Illarramendi (Real Sociedad), Isco (Malaga), Koke (Atletico Madrid), Pablo Sarabia (Getafe). Forwards: Alvaro Morata (Real Madrid), Rodrigo (Benfica), Iker Muniain (Athletic Bilbao), Cristian Tello (Barcelona), Alvaro Vazquez (Getafe).

Top side Negredo has paid the price for being at Sevilla who has not had a good year and being outdone by some high quality strikers..here's his quote: He is quoted by Football Espana as saying: "I am displeased, yet it makes me think that I must keep working and doing things right so as to re-enter."It has not been a good year for Sevilla and in the end we have not achieved our objective. In the end it is a group, if things go wrong in the whole group then it can have an influence, but hey, the players who are going have a lot of merit. "Roberto [soldado] is having a great season, [David] Villa whenever selected scores goals and Fernando [Torres] has many goals, important goals. In the end it is up to the coach and Fernando has finished the season well. I congratulate them all for making the cut, in particular to Jesus Navas."

Captain Kevin Strootman, Jordy Clasie and Adam Maher combined to form a stylish midfield trio, with lone striker Luuk de Jong flanked by effervescent wingers Georginio Wijnaldum and Ola John.
