Division 2 previews and predictions

Turn 18

21/12/2011

Cardiff City vs Preston North End

Cardiff are still chasing the play off's in 9th position and know a win here could see them climb in the top six. They picked up a superb 3 points away at West Ham at the weekend which will sure have boosted the confidence.

Preston's automatic promotion hopes have taken a big hit in recent weeks and the Lilywhites now sit 5th in the table. They have just one win from their last six games but a decent draw at home to Blackburn last time will have restored some confidence.

stat attack - Preston have scored just 10 goaqls on the road this season the fewest out of all the current top six

steve025 predicts - Cardiff City 2 vs 1 Preston North End

Blackburn Rovers vs Watford

Blackburn head into the game in decent form having not lost in their last three games. They held fellow promotion rivals Preston to a draw at the weekend and should they win here they could find themselves back in the top six.

Watford picked up a vital home win over fellow strugglers Doncaster at the weekend to climb within three points of safety. Their away form is better than their home currently so that will give them confidence heading into this game.

stat attack - In this fixture last season it was Watford who prevailed with a 2-0 win.

steve025 predicts - Blackburn Rovers 2 vs 0 Watford

Doncaster Rovers vs Coventry City

Doncaster continue to be dogged by inconsistency and now sit 15th in the table. Their defeat to Watford on Saturday was a massive blow to the fans and they will be hoping to get the win which will lift them above Coventry.

Coventry have have now wins in their last three games and currently occupy 14th place in the division. They were beaten at home by Birmingham last time out so the supporters will be hoping to see an improvement.

stat attack - three out of the four games between these sides have ended in a draw

steve025 predicts - Doncaster Rovers 2 vs 2 Coventry City

Birmingham City vs Burnley

Brums derby win over Coventry at the weekend kept them in mid-table but they are still only two points off the last play off place. They have won their last four games to give themselves a chance and the confidence will be sky high.

Burnley like Birmingham are showing signs of a revival with the Clarets winning their last three games. Their latest win over Plymouth came as a shock to many and with the chance to put pressure on the play off pack at stake the Burnley supporters will be hoping their side perform.

stat attack - Birmingham have won both previous meetings between the two teams scoring 8 goals along the way.

steve025 predicts - Birmingham City 1 vs 1 Burnley

Plymouth Argyle vs West Bromwich Albion

Plymouth's defeat to Burnley at the weekend was a major blow to the supporters and saw them slip to 4th in the division. but with five wins previous to that they can't be too downhearted.

The Baggies head into this game in worrying form having lost their last three games. Their latest loss 5-3 at home to Notts Forest will have the fans worried and should they lose tonight it's almost certain they will fall out of the top six.

stat attack - Plymouth have conceded just 7 goals at home this season the best home defensive record in the top six.

steve025 predicts - Plymouth Argyle 2 vs 1 West Bromwich Albion

Nottingham Forest vs Reading

Forest superb 5-3 win away at West Brom was a welcome one having failed to win in their previous five. They sit a disappointing 13th in the table and having won just once at home this season so far they know things need to change if they are to challenge for promotion.

Reading's early season form looks a distant memory now with the Royals failing to win in their last 8 outings. They were battered 4-0 at home by league leaders Norwich at the weekend and should they lose tonight they could find themselves in the bottom 3.

stat attack - This is the first ever meeting between the two teams in 7046

steve025 predicts - Nottingham Forest 1 vs 0 Reading

Norwich City vs Blackpool

Norwich continue to defy the odds by sitting top of the table but with no fewer than six players set to miss this game through injury and suspension it will be interesting to see how they cope but they do have the security of a 7 point cushion over nearest rivals Charlton.

Blackpool sit smack bang in mid-table in 10th position following their weekend defeat to QPR. With the league so tight the Seasider's know a win could see them in the top six and they will be looking to exploit Norwich's current injury crisis.

stat attack - Norwich have won more games at home than anybody else in the division with 7 wins from 8.

steve025 predicts - Norwich City 2 vs 2 Blackpool

Queens Park Rangers vs Derby County

QPR will be looking to keep up the pressure on 2nd place Charlton with a win here and not many will be backing against them. Their win over Blackpool at the weekend was their 2nd successive three point haul so confidence will be high at Loftus Road.

Derby look like a relegated side and they look in danger of being cut adrift unless they find some form sooner rather than later. They were beaten convincingly by Charlton at the weekend and it will be interesting to see how they cope with in form QPR

stat attack - 20 goals have been scored between the two teams in just four meetings.

steve025 predicts - Queens Park Rangers 3 vs 0 Derby County

Charlton Athletic vs Bury

2nd place Charlton will be looking to keep up their form which has seen them lose just once in their last six games. The Londoners continue to defy the bookies who had them down as relegation candidates and with 7 points separating them from third place QPR things look good for Chris Hoggs side.

Bury slipped back to 16th in the table following their disappointing 1-0 home defeat to struggling Leicester at the weekend. Neil Matterson's men have lost their last two after some decent form saw them climb the table and all Bury fans will be hoping their side can cause a shock tonight.

stat attack - Bury have scored just 8 goals away from home this season. Only Doncaster and Leicester boast a worse record

steve025 predicts - Charlton Athletic 2 vs 1 Bury

Leicester City vs West Ham United

Relegation threatened Leicester will be boosted following their surprise win over Bury at the weekend and they will be looking to make it three games unbeaten with a result of some kind tonight.

West Ham suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 defeat at home to Cardiff at the weekend and that result would have heart the fans. The defeat saw them slip out of the play off spots into 7th so they will be going all out in this one to ensure they bounce straight back.

stat attack - West Ham have conceded just 9 goals away from home this season. Only league leaders Norwich can boast better

steve025 predicts - Leicester City 1 vs 3 West Ham United

Division 1 Week 18 Previews

premier-league-logo-270.jpg

Liverpool v Arsenal

Big game in the top half of the table. A late equaliser from Javier Hernandez stole a point away from Liverpool when they went up to the Etihad on Saturday. Arsenal slipped up at the Emirates but couldn't hold on for a draw. Liverpool have a clean bill of health for this one whereas the Gunners have Alexandre Pato out. Home advantage should see the Reds through.

Liverpool 2-0 Arsenal

Boro v Chelsea

Thanks to Carlos Eduardo's goal Boro kept a hold of 2nd place despite pressure from the teams below them. Being dumped out of the cup won't help morale though. Where has Chelsea's run come from?! They were in the bottom 3 the last time I checked, but Cesc Fabregas' winner against Bolton has propelled them into 4th place. Chelsea are on a roll & I think they could nick the win.

Boro 0-1 Chelsea

Bolton v Man United

Bolton's loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge means that they have now slipped into the drop zone. They're without a win in 6 & need to be more clinical in front of goal. United's form has also hit a sticky patch. United's loss to Fulham means their lead has been cut to 4 points. They've also been on a poor run of games, but tonight is the perfect chance for them to get back on track.

Bolton 1-3 Man United

Fulham v Spurs

Fulham's win over United will give them so much confidence going into this one. However, their injury & suspension list is growing & that could lead to trouble tonight. Spurs definitely wouldn't be where they are now if they didn't have Robin van Persie. The Dutchman has scored 8 & assisted 9 goals so far this year. They're up to 5th & I think they'll only get stronger from here.

Fulham 0-1 Spurs

MK Dons v Newcastle

MK Dons' loss to Spurs at White Hart Lane means they slip into the bottom half for the first time this season. Could this be the start of their dreaded second season syndrome? Newcastle have been in fine form this year & they showed why they are 3rd as they dismantled Huddersfield 3-0. Karim Benzema is the one to watch, he could bag a few today.

MK Dons 0-4 Newcastle

Huddersfield v Bristol City

Big game in the bottom half. Huddersfield's recent form couldn't be more different from when they were flying high in 2nd place. They've now slipped down as far as 16th. Bristol City were soundly beaten by Wigan on the weekend & will want to bounce back as soon as they can.

Huddersfield 1-1 Bristol City

Wigan v Everton

Wigan have been great this year in comparison to recent years performances. Marouane Chamakh was instrumental in their win at Ashton Gate & he's key to any success that they have. Everton still haven't hit top form yet & Shack will be hoping this will be rectified soon or they could slip into the bottom 3.

Wigan 2-1 Everton

Leeds v Stoke

Andrea Pirlo's winner against Everton means that Leeds are now out of the bottom 3. They're 3 points from safety & they couldn't be facing better opponents to make it 6 points from 6. Stoke finally got to double figures in points following their 0-0 draw at Molyneux. Leeds win.

Leeds 2-0 Stoke

Wolves v Sunderland

Wolves fans will be hugely disappointed by their draw against Stoke. They'll have to bounce back tonight in order to avoid further further humiliation. Sunderland are still hugely underperforming but still have enough quality to nick something.

Wolves 1-1 Sunderland

Sheff Utd v Man City

Sheff Utd are still achieving above expectations after their draw against Sunderland leaves them 3 points above the drop zone. City are still underachieving by their high standards, but are only 5 points from the top 4.

Sheff Utd 1-3 Man City

The Championship

NpowerChampionship.jpg

Turn 19 – Weekend Games – 24-12-11

Predictions Lite (due to having no internet at home)

Watford-1.png Watford - Preston North End PNE.png

Watford have back to back wins coming into this game and it looks like the manager has finally got his side playing. They still sit 18th but have at least given themselves a chance of escape. They will have some fitness issues coming into this game however.

Preston have been patchy in recent weeks but are unbeaten in two games. They have a good side, certainly better than Watford’s, and are mostly fully ft.

Looking at the potential starting line-ups would suggest Preston have an advantage here, add to that the fact that Watford have some fitness problems and the outcome looks even more favorable for Preston.

Watford 0 - 2 Preston North End

Coventry.png Coventry City - Blackburn Rovers Blackburn-1.png

Coventry have now not won a game in 4 matches as they slide down the table, currently all the way down to 15th. They are in real danger out of dropping into the relegation zone at this rate and need to start picking up points sooner than later. A tricky tie to Blackburn probably was not what the manager had on his Christmas wish list.

Blackburn have also been poor of late with just one win in 6 games. They have also seen a good start to the season slip away as the team struggles to get results. They have only small injury concerns coming into this game and should be able to field their strongest side.

Both teams have some quality in them, though neither would really be considered title challengers. Both of the teams also look stronger at the back than anywhere else, and with both sides playing poor recently I’d expect a low score draw here.

Coventry City 0 – 0 Blackburn Rovers

Burnley - Doncaster Rovers

Burnley have been playing very well of late and with 4 wins in a row find themselves just outside the playoff spots. They have a decent side and with the manager seemingly getting to grips with his tactics of late, there’s no reason they can’t push on into the top 6. They do however have some minor injury worries ahead of this match.

Doncaster have been patchy in recent weeks, but they are picking up wins here and there to take them clear of the relegation zone. They aren’t the strongest side though and star player Lucas is only there on loan. They too have some injuries to worry about coming into this game.

Burnley certainly have the stronger side between the two and are in better form than their visitors, looks like a home win to me.

Burnley2 - 0 Doncaster Rovers

West Bromwich Albion - Birmingham City

West Brom have been dropping points of late but managed to get a win midweek. They are comfortable in the playoff places right now but will need to improve in order to stay there. They have a decent side with a few standout players, but with their main midfield playmaker struggling for fitness, they could have some difficulties heading into this match.

Brimingham have been much improved recently but suffered a setback midweek with a costly defeat, hopefully they will be able to get back on track. With one of the weaker sides in the league it’s imperative the Brummies pick up all the points they can while the side is fully fit. They too will have some fitness concerns heading into this match with several players struggling. Luckily it appears to be mainly reserve players that are affected.

There’s not much between these sides, The Baggies have a better starting lineup, Birmingham have been in better form. Could be a draw, could be a narrow WBA win.

Edit: Birmingham’s manger has walked out over a rumored takeover by Venky’s so I will have to go for a WBA win.

West Bromwich Albion 2 -1 Birmingham City

Reading - Plymouth Argyle

Reading’s poor run continues and they find themselves outside of the relegation zone by virtue of goal difference alone. They have an average squad and with a number of players not fit coming into this match they will probably struggle here.

Plymouth’s recent good form has taken a hit with two back to back defeats. They have managed to stay in the playoff spots however but only just. The side seems fully fit ahead of this game though and against such weak opposition must be considered favorites here.

I can’t see past Plymouth here. Reading have been poor all season and with them struggle for fitness and form. I think the win will be there for the taking for Plymouth, especially as their starting lineup will be considerably stronger.

Reading 0 - 3 Plymouth Argyle

Blackpool.png Blackpool - Nottingham Forest Forest.png

Blackpool have been struggling in recent weeks. It looked like they had turned a corner with two wins in a row, but have since gone on to lose 2 in a row. They find themselves 12th at present and a long way clear of the drop zone, but playoff places are also looking more unlikely as well. They have a decent side though, but have a few injuries ahead of this game.

Forest are steadily going in the right direction finally after a poor run. They have climbed to 9th now and still have some work to do in order to get into the playoffs, but at least they look like they now have a chance of that. They have a strong side, but also have a number of injuries and suspensions ahead of this game.

Forest look to be the better team on paper, they have been marginally better recently and I think their current good run may be extended against Blackpool.

Blackpool 1 – 2 Nottingham Forest

Derby.png Derby County - Norwich City Norwich.png

Derby remain rooted to the foot of the table and now haven’t won a game since the Dinosaurs became extinct. The team isn’t actually all that bad, but with injuries to several key players taking their toll it’s likely they will face more hard times before things get better.

Norwich continue to do amazingly well despite having more injuries than a war hospital. In order to counter-act this they have brought in some loan players, but as the teams injury count climbs into treble figures it seems likely that Norwich will begin to drop points sooner than later as the season rolls relentlessly on. They should be ok in this fixture however as they face a side that couldn’t hit the ground if they fell over.

Despite injuries to Norwich, they should still have enough to put away a dismal Derby County.

Derby County 0 - 2 Norwich City

Bury.png Bury - Queens Park Rangers QPR.png

Bury continue to have a hard time of things but managed to at least pick up a point midweek to arrest their slide down the table. Bury had been playing well but injuries and suspensions to key players have put the kabosh on Matterson’s playoff hopes. With 4 players missing ahead of this game they face a difficult period.

QPR are starting to look good again and come into this game having climbed into third place after some good recent results. They are however beginning to see players struggling as their ability drops, but so far the manager has done a good job to keep the side playing well despite this.

QPR have a much stronger starting lineup, and with form being in their favour, I can’t look past them despite being a Lenny fan.

Bury 1 - 3 Queens Park Rangers

WestHam.png West Ham United - Charlton Athletic Charlton.png

West Ham’s recent good run has come to a shuddering halt in the last weeks with back to back defeats meaning they are now outside of the playoff places again. They also have injuries to worry about heading into this game and face a difficult challenge in second placed Charlton.

Charlton are still playing quite well despite being one of the weaker sides in the league. The ability of their manager has made a mockery out of the bigger teams around them and they have a comfortable 5 point lead between themselves and third place. As long as they can stay injury free there’s no reason this good run can’t continue.

The Hammers look to have a strong team on paper, but Charlton have made a name for themselves this season beating the big teams and will fancy their chances against a West Ham side with players missing. This is a hard one to call, so I won’t.

West Ham United 1 -1 Charlton Athletic

Leicester.png Leicester City - Cardiff City Cardiff-1.png

There are signs coming out of Leicester that the manager might just know what he’s doing after all. 7 points from a possible 9 has put them within touching distance of climbing out of the drop zone for the first time this season. A point here will almost certainly see them swap places with Watford and Reading, both of whom are heavily tipped to lose this weekend. The side looks in good shape with only minor injuries to worry about.

Cardiff have been somewhat indifferent over the last few weeks but will be hopeful of getting a win here against Leicester. They have a decent side and are fully fit so the manager will be fielding his strongest side as they look to maintain their comfortable mid table position.

Looking at the two sides it seems clear that Leicester have a strong staring 11. Form rests with Cardiff, but I fancy Leicester to continue their recent good work and record another win here.

Leicester City 2 – 1 Cardiff City

Note: As I’m limited to 15 images for 20 teams some have missed out on having their logo displayed... It’s unfortunate, but so is having no bloody internet at home at Christmas when I’m scouting my next batch of risers!!!

Turn 19 – Weekend Games – 24-12-11

AFC Bournemouth (16th) - Leyton Orient (18th)

Two teams trying to hit form but are in a battle at the foot of league two football, there coaches have had a hard season, and with only two points between these two teams you have too say too loss here can Orient catch back up in time. I have to say this is a real hard one too call but going to pick Layton Orient too win, sorry buddy but thay just have the team too do it.

1-3

Colchester United (17th) - Burton Albion (14th)

Another mid table game between two teams who are looking to brake in too the top half of the league. The way United have been playing on form this is there match to win, thay have been wining then getting a loss the game after and this turn thay should win. But can thay make a impact against a team just four points ahead of them.

3-4

Southampton (2nd) - Brentford (10th)

Two teams in the top ten will be looking to beat each over, you have to say this is a miss match on papper as the Saints have miles better of players but can Brentford keep there form and battle to get in the play offs.

2-0

Shrewsbury Town (12th) - Wycombe Wanderers (20th)

A real test for Wycombe here who have only 10 points in 18 games, this has shown with there coach being sacked can somone pick them up before the end of the year and make them good again we will see. I have too say on papper Wanderers seem to have the uper hand but with no coach this could be a hard game.

3-0

Swindon Town (6th) - Shorpe United (15th)

Two teams with a lot to prove, this is there 3rd game against each over and it is 1-1 over all who will brake the dead lock, with Jo going to miss this game you have to say Swindon have the uper hand but can thay do the job.

2-1

Stockport County (1st) - Southend United (3rd)

What a game we have here, with news that Beckett may never come back to Stockport Barthez and Zidane will be doing all thay can to show the chairman thay can make this team one of the best. The chairman has put a lot of work in too this team and wants cups but is there a team behind him or will Beckett strike a Hammer blow and take players from the squad to Norwich in the championship. Southend has had great form in the past give games and this will be a real test for the league leaders.

1-1

Tranmere Rovers (7th) - Bristol Rovers (19th)

Two teams miles apart with what could be called a job blowing run of back luck can Tranmere finaly get back to wining ways or will a team with only 10 points kill there chance of getting back in too the play off hunt. I have too say on papper with Young on there side Tranmere should win but can there coach get rid of the back luck behind there team.

5-0

Northampton Town (8th) - Hartlepool United (5th)

Another battle in the top ten this time it is between two real power houses of league two football. One is four points from first place the over is just on the edge of getting in the play offs, can Hartlepool keep there league hopes alive or with Northampton get there play off hopes realy under way.

0-2

Accrington Stanley (11th) - Rotherham United (9th)

Two teams both on 24 points will be looking to take the over one out of a play off hope, can Accrington keep there hope up or with Rotherham end a dream for Stanley fans. Papper work has show up saying this was too hard to call for many but a Hammer has shown up saying he thinks he knows the winner.

3-2

Notts County (4th) - Gillingham (13th)

Notts County is so close to being in 1st / 2nd place and Gillingham will be looking to reck there hope. The Kent club will be looking to reck County fans harts but can Notts keep up there hope of League one football or will thay fall to wast side right when the season is in the middle.

5-4

Division 1 Week 19 Previews

premier-league-logo-270.jpg

Chelsea v Arsenal

Great way to start off the festive season. Chelsea have slipped out of the top 4 after their 3-0 loss to Jooles' Boro. Snooky's Arsenal are the ones that have replaced them in that 4th spot. A great second half performance from them meant they beat Liverpool at Anfield. Tough one to call, but I'm tipping the Blue to bounce back.

Chelsea 2-1 Arsenal

Man United v Boro

Game of the day is this one though. United are finding things tough after it looked like they were going to walk the league. They've only won 2 in their last 6. Not the form of champions. Boro on the other hand are bombing & are unbeaten in 6. They are only 1 point behind United & I think they'll overtake them tonight.

Man United 0-2 Boro

Spurs v Bolton

What has happened to Spurs this year? Talismanic striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic wants out so there must be underlying problems at WHL that only Ben knows about. The fact he could leave is making fans rather disgruntled. Bolton were looking shaky but Wednesday's fantastic win over the leaders means that they're out of the drop zone. They could nick something here.

Spurs 1-1 Bolton

Newcastle v Fulham

It looks as though Newcastle could be having one of those seasons to remember as they're keeping their heads while teams below them are losing them. All this despite losing at Stadium MK in midweek. Could the wheels be coming off? Fulham got a decent against Spurs & after the miracle of Carrick staying at 92, anything is possible.

Newcastle 1-1 Fulham

Bristol City v MK Dons

Bristol City gained a huge amount of confidence after a 4-1 win over Huddersfield at the Galpharm. Charles N'Zogbia got on the scoresheet to take his tally for the season into double figures. MK Dons' win over the Toon sent them into the top half of the table, but with home advantage, I think the Robins can pull it off.

Bristol City 1-0 MK Dons

Everton v Huddersfield

Everton scraped a 0-0 draw at Wigan but are still only 2 points outside of the drop zone. Huddersfield really have been on a slump & after 3 straight defeats, a 4-1 loss at home to Bristol City hasn't helped. They're in the drop zone & need to stop the rot. And quick.

Everton 2-0 Huddersfield

Stoke v Wigan

After a well-earned point at Elland Road on Wednesday, it might not be all doom & gloom for Stoke (but it probably will be). Wigan fell into the bottom half after their draw to Everton, but there's no need for worry yet, they're nearer to the top 4 than they are to the relegetion spots.

Stoke 0-2 Wigan

Sunderland v Leeds

Sunderland really need the points now that they're now 6 points from safety. Leeds would have wanted a win on Wednesday, but they too will take any points that they can lay their hands on.

Sunderland 1-2 Leeds

Man City v Wolves

Man City are still lingering & could make a break for the top 4 at any time. They'll have to win games against the lesser teams as draws against the likes of Sheff Utd won't help. Wolves are back near the top after a 2-1 win over Sunderland. Winning at the Etihad will be a big ask mind.

Man City 2-2 Wolves

Sheff Utd v Liverpool

Sheff Utd may be in 15th place, but are only 1 point from the relegation zone. Points like that against Citeh will help no end. Liverpool started off fantastically well, but have slid down the table since then & will want to stop the rot tonight.

Sheff Utd 1-3 Liverpool

npowerleague1logo.jpg

Division Three Predictions – Season Four – Turn Twenty

  • Sheffield Wednesday vs Exeter City

Sheff Wed seem to be just one of those unfortunate teams that will forever be fighting relegation and for now they're keeping thier heads above water with 2 wins in 3. Exeter are unbeaten in their last 6 but that includes 4 draws which really need to be turned into wins, this is one they'd look to win.

Wednesday 0 - 2 Exeter

  • Rochdale vs Barnsley

Things were going along very nicely for Mr Mack, a cool 10 game unbeaten run, everything presumably rosy in the garden then along comes his fist REAL test in back-to-back games against Carlisle and Peterborough and as expected he fails spectacularly just limping across the line against Carly and then seeing his streak finally ended at the hands of The Posh, they still remain at the summit but for how long is anyone's guess. They face another strong team today in Barny who are starting to look decent, a loss for Rochdale would pretty much end their season in my opinion.

Rocky Road 2 - 3 Barny

  • Chesterfield vs Yeovil Town

Chester have just recently hit a poor run of form with two defeats in the last 3 and has seen them drop from the top 6, still, it's only a smal gap of one point so no need to panic, just yet. Yeovil are still just holding their own in mid table but have also lost 4 games out the last 6 so really need to steady the ship to avoid a 2nd half of the season collapse.

Chester 0 - 0 Yeovil

  • Hull City vs Peterborough United

Hull even with their fairly strong squad continue to underperform and are now without a win in 4 with the last two being defeats, they're only 4 points from relegation too, worrying times. The Posh were recently finally let loose from the evil grip of El Nino and with it are starting to male progress, the current form is top 6-like so keeping this run going for 4-5 more games should see them clear of the drop, work to be done for Mr Hart.

Hull 1 - 3 The Posh

  • Walsall vs Carlisle United

Walsall finally hit rock bottom last turn with a 4-2 loss away at Ipswich, it's not that bad though as the gap to 17th is only 4 points and still gettable. Carlisle got a crucial win last game against Chester to break a run of 3 without one but arguably the draw previously away at Rochdale was much more important as it keeps them within reach of the leaders. This game simply HAS to be a win for them.

Saddlers 1 - 2 Carly

  • Crystal Palace vs Aldershot Town

Palace look like they are finding it very hard to compete this season with the way other teams are improving, they have lost 4 from 6 with just 2 draws in that, on 25 points they are far from safe, improvement need soon. Alders are one of those improving teams so much so that they are just 1 win from top spot, this should be easy for them.

Palace 0 - 3 Alders

  • Portsmouth vs Ipswich Town

Portsmouth are bang on form right now and proving a real threat to Rochdale and Carly, in fact the loss against Villa last game was quite a shock going completely against the form guide, this one they need to win being at home. The team they face though is in very good form winning 4 from the last 5 shooting them up the table in quick-time, a win for Ipswich could put them 9th from 13th.

Pompey 2 - 3 Tractor Boys

  • Swansea City vs Dagenham & Redbridge

Swansea were improving, emphasis on the word WERE, now though it looks like the brown stuff has well and truly hit the fan full in the face as they get two draws followed by 3 defeats and what’s worse is the teams below them are starting to find some decent form and as early as this turn could have leap-frogged them, dark times for the Swans, hopefully Zakky does the right thing and resigns. Dagenham a team promoted are actually faring quite well up in a healthy mid-table slot and should find this game very easy even in fact too easy to the point it could be deemed match-fixing.

Swans 0 - 3 Daggers

  • Millwall vs Aston Villa

Millwall are starting to build up some momentum of late that has taken them to just 1 point from safety, for a team who finished 8th last term relegation would be a disaster. Villa somehow managed to get a rare win last game and vs a tough team in Portsmouth, it takes them to joint 5th but they really need more than just a fleeting glimmer to mount a promotion push.

Millwall 2 - 1 Villa

  • Brighton and Hove Albion vs Oldham Athletic

Brighton with the new manager in charge have made excellent progress, currently 2nd in the form table, they did however have a shock loss at home to Millwall last game but overall thing s are positive down on the South coast. Oldham are your typical middle of the road team just drifting from season to season without doing anything of note, their current form putting them mid-table and that's where they'll most likely finish.

Brighton 3 - 1 Oldham

Division 2 previews and predictions

npowerchampionship.jpg

Turn 20

28/12/2011

Charlton Athletic vs Cardiff City

Charlton continue to defy the critics who had them down as relegation candidates at the beginning of the season. They currently sit 2nd in the division and after their fine away win over West Ham on Xmas eve they will now have their sights on getting back to the top of the table.

Cardiff head to the Valley in confident mood after their 4-1 demolition of Leicester last time out. The Bluebirds are hot on the heels of the current top six but need to find some consistency to really mount a serious challenge.

stat attack - Only Charlton have scored more goals away from home this season than Cardiff

steve025 predicts - Charlton Athletic 3 vs 2 Cardiff City

Queens Park Rangers vs Leicester City

QPR's recent fine form continued at the weekend with a fine 2-0 win over Bury at Gigg Lane and that result kept them in third place in the table. They have won five of their last six league games and will be looking to keep up the pressure on the current top two with a win here.

Leicester's mini revival came to a crashing halt with a 4-1 home defeat to Cardiff at the weekend and that result sees them stay in 19th position. They know a win in this fixture could see them out of the relegation places but not many will be backing them to get anything against an inform QPR

stat attack - Leicester have lost 7 games away from home this season. Only Doncaster can boast a worse record

steve025 predicts - Queens Park Rangers 2 vs 0 Leicester City

Norwich City vs West Ham United

Norwich suffered a shock away defeat to bottom club Derby at the weekend but despite that setback they still remain top of the table. The injury crisis at Carrow Road looks to be easing off and that will be a big plus for the Canaries who have been though an horrendous run with injuries.

West Ham's hopes of an immediate return to the top flight look in serious doubt at the minute with the Hammers currently on a three match losing streak the most recent defeat coming at home against Charlton at the weekend. Manager Sean Fitzpatrick must be worried heading into this but they do have the squad to match anybody in this division.

stat attack - West Ham have never lost 4 consecutive league games in their 7046 history

steve025 predicts - Norwich City 1 vs 0 West Ham United

Nottingham Forest vs Bury

Forest will be looking to stretch their unbeaten run to four league games when they welcome Bury to the County Ground on Wednesday. They have lost just once in their last six games but they have still won just twice on home soil this season.

Bury are four games without a win and that form has seen them slip back down near the relegation zone. Their latest defeat came on home soil against QPR and with their away form being far from perfect it looks a tall of for the Shakers

stat attack - Bury have scored just 8 goals on the road this season. Only Leicester have scored fewer

steve025 predicts - Nottingham Forest 2 vs 1 Bury

Plymouth Argyle vs Derby County

Play off hopefuls Plymouth will fancy their chances in this match up against bottom of the table Derby County. The Pilgrims picked up a tight 1-0 win over struggling Reading at the weekend to remain 6th in the table and that result ended a two game losing streak.

Derby produced a major shock at the weekend by beating table toppers Norwich and that result brought them to within three points of safety. They have still to win on the road this season but with confidence restored they will relish this trip.

stat attack - Derby are one of only 3 teams in the entire 7046 set up still to win away from home this season.

steve025 predicts - Plymouth Argyle 3 vs 1 Derby County

Birmingham City vs Blackpool

New Brum manager Stephen Holland takes charge of his first home game when they welcome Blackpool to St Andrews. Hollands first game ended in defeat against rivals West Brom so he will be looking to get off the mark following his move from Hull.

Blackpool picked up a well earned point on home soil against Notts Forest at the weekend and that saw them climb to 11th in the table. They remain six points off the play off but know a win here will lift them above their opponents.

stat attack - Forest have the second worse home record in the division with just 9 points gained in front of their own fans.

steve025 predicts - Birmingham City 1 vs 1 Blackpool

Doncaster Rovers vs Reading

A real battle looks in prospect here between two sides who are desperate for a win to ease their relegation fears. Doncaster are certainly in the better form of the two teams with three wins from their last six league games. They were beaten in a 4-3 thriller away at in form Burnley at the weekend but they will take heart from that.

Reading are in miserable form heading into this game having picked up just one point from thier last six league games. Only goal difference keeps them out of the bottom three at the minute and with no signs of improvement coming it looks like a bleak second half of the season for the Royals.

stat attack - Doncaster have scored 21 goals on home turf this season more than any other team in the bottom half of the table.

steve025 predicts - Doncaster Rovers 3 vs 1 Reading

Blackburn Rovers vs West Bromwich Albion

Blackburn will be hoping for a better second half to the season after enduring a frustrating first half to the campaign. They have picked up just four points from their last six games and that has seen them slip to 14th in the table. They were beaten away at Coventry at the weekend so will be wanting to impress in front of their own fans.

West Brom beat local rivals Birmingham at the weekend to remain in the play off places but they will now have their sights on the top two and they know a win in this fixture could see them as high as third.

stat attack - Blackburn have scored just 9 goals at home this season the fewest along with Watford in the division.

steve025 predicts - Blackburn Rovers 1 vs 2 West Bromwich Albion

Preston North End vs Burnley

This Lancashire derby is all set up to be a cracker with both sides harbouring hopes of promotion. Preston currently occupy fourth place in the division and after their away win at Watford at the weekend they will once again have their sights set on the top two positions.

Burnley sit just outside the play off's in 7th place but are currently the form team in the division having won their last five league games including a 4-3 thriller over Doncaster. Their away form has been inconsistent so they know they can still improve.

stat attack - Preston are the highest scorers on home soil in the entire division

steve025 predicts - Preston North End 3 vs 3 Burnley

Watford vs Coventry City

Inconsistency continues to plague Watford who sit inside the relegation places in 18th place. They were beaten narrowly by Preston last time out so will be looking to go one better against the Sky Blues.

Coventry picked up a vital three points at the weekend with a win over Blackburn and with the chance to climb into the top half at stake they will be going all out for victory. That win ended a three game losing streak for the Sky Blues so confidence will be coming back into the fans and players.

stat attack - This game has produced 14 goals in five previous meetings in 7046

steve025 predicts - Watford 1 vs 1 Coventry City

The Championship

NpowerChampionship.jpg

Turn 21 – Weekend Games – 31-12-11

Leicester.png Leicester City - Charlton Athletic Charlton.png

Leicester continue to find the going tough this season and despite a couple of positive results last week reverted to form again soon after. On the plus side, they come into this game fully fit and their side is considerably stronger than their opponents this weekend. On the down side, Charlton have made a mockery of the bigger teams so far this season. The safe zone is within touching distance for Leicester if they can just put a few more win together and I would estimate that 23 points from 18 games will see them safe, a target certainly achievable for a side of this ability.

Charlton continue to look good in second place despite the odd disappointing result. They certainly deserve their league position however and the manager has done a fantastic job so far this season to keep them in the automatic promotion spots despite being one of the weaker sides in the league. They too will come into this game fully fit and despite being over-matched on paper will fancy their chances against one of the leagues whipping boys.

This is a match between two sides I would have expected to be in the exact opposite position with Leicester one of my early season promotion tips and Charlton a relegation tip. Fair play to both for proving me wrong, though I think Hogg may be the happier of the two. That said I like Leicester and I think they’ll survive, a draw could be on the cards here.

Leicester City 1 - 1 Charlton Athletic

WestHam.png West Ham United - Queens Park Rangers QPR.png

West Ham got off to a rocky start, then put a good run together, followed by a bad one, hopefully this is the beginning of their good run again. The team certainly has a nice look to it now with a mix of established players and talented youth as the manager looks to drive down the side’s average age. They come into this game fully fit but face a big test against one of the most experienced sides in the league.

QPR looked more likely to pull up headstones than tree’s a few weeks ago but since then have gone on to be one of the form teams in the league with only Burnley playing better. Some astute management from Sercan Bursa has seen his side climb to third in the table as they look to grab a top two finish. They have only very minor injuries ahead of this game and this probably won’t affect their game plan at all.

Both these sides would be considered above average at this level, but The Hammers look to have more quality throughout their side. Despite this QPR have been playing much the better football and should be considered favorites fir this game. Alas, I like both managers and fancy a draw here.

West Ham United 1 - 1 Queens Park Rangers

Bury.png Bury - Norwich City Norwich.png

Bury have been finding things extremely hard going lately with only one win in six games. Their main issue seems to be up front with just one goal in their last five games and only one clean sheet in that same time. They seem to have been consistently bad all season defensively but had managed to mask this by outscoring opponents, now that they are struggling for goals they are dropping down the table quicker than Middlesbrough’s ratings. The manager will also have a few suspensions here to contend with. All in all, it looks a difficult task for the popular manager.

Norwich look like they may be about to go through a sticky patch just now with back to back defeats coming into this game. Luckily most of their injuries seem to have cleared up. Though they still have a few players not quite at 100% fitness they have taken a few loan players in to help out short term and they will be hopeful of taking all the points here against under-performing Bury.

Two of the most popular managers in the league meet having experienced wildly different season’s so far. Josh Horne has done tremendously well to get his side to the top of the table and keep them their despite the bad luck they have experienced, while Matterson has struggled to get to grips with the league so far. Both managers are talented without doubt, and both will need to improve their sides at some point in the near future, but for different reasons. As for this match, I can’t look past a Norwich win on this occasion.

Bury 0 – 2 Norwich City

Derby.png Derby County - Nottingham Forest Forest.png

Derby are slowly slowly picking up points here and there as they look to climb out of the relegation zone. In the long term, it looks to be an extremely strong side with a number of talented youth players but lacks real depth when injuries occur to their current first team as the reserves aren’t strong enough. The danger for them is that by the time most of the players come into their own they could well be playing third division football. They will have some fitness concerns ahead of this match as well just to make things more difficult for the manager.

Forest are looking like a solid unit again as they creep towards the playoff spots after some good results, but I would expect no less from a talented team with a good manager. They approach this game relatively intact and will be confident of heaping more pressure on rock bottom Derby.

While Derby look to be playing much better, I just can’t see how they will get anything out of this game.

Derby County 1 - 2 Nottingham Forest

Blackpool - Plymouth Argyle

Blackpool seem to be struggling for consistency recently, but they are managing to pick up points as they try to fight their way into the play-off spots. They have a decent side at this level, especially in the central midfield area, but are much weaker in other areas. They are relatively intact ahead of this match but know they have a tough game ahead against Plymouth.

Plymouth also seem to be struggling in recent weeks and are slipping away from the playoff spots. They seem to be struggling defensively and really need to tighten up if they are to remain in playoff contention. They are injury free ahead of this game and will be fairly confident of a positive result.

With not too much between these sides in either form or players it’s a difficult match to call, the most likely result seems a draw.

Blackpool 1 - 1 Plymouth Argyle

Reading - Birmingham City

Reading continue to sink without a trace and their loss count is now higher than SOP’s 3-5-2 usage count. The side isn’t all that bad, but some mismanagement of the players has lead to a situation where they look more likely to win the lottery than a football match. The come into this came with injuries, suspensions and not match fit players as well.

Birmingham are also struggling of late as the new manager tries to get to grips with his misfiring side. They currently sit in 15th place but don’t look to be in any danger of dropping into the relegation places just yet. The side is fully fit and will be hopeful of getting an easy win against the Division 2 whipping boys.

Despite Birmingham being poor, they should have no problems overcoming Reading here.

Reading 0 - 3 Birmingham City

WestBrom.png West Bromwich Albion - Doncaster Rovers Doncaster.png

West Brom have been consistently inconsistent this season and continued that consistent inconsistency with three wins and three losses in their last six games. They have an average side at this level and rely heavily on Luka Modric to pull the strings from the center of the park. They remain in the playoff places but need to improve if they want to stay there. They have only minor injuries ahead of this game and will hope to take all three points in this game.

Doncaster have performed fairly well given the very average team they have and the manager deserves some credit for turning them into a decent side. They could do with strengthening though in order to make sure they aren’t dragged into the relegation zone below them though. They have a few injuries ahead of this game and may struggle as they look very light up front.

There is a clear difference in the abilities of these two sides. While The Baggies are by no means a great team, they have far more quality than Rovers do and I would expect this to be a telling factor by the end of the game despite The Rovers manager standing out as a talented tactician.

West Bromwich Albion 3 - 0 Doncaster Rovers

Burnley.png Burnley - Blackburn Rovers Blackburn.png

Burnley have out of nowhere become the form team of the league. For defeats in a row has been followed by six back to back victories and they suddenly find themselves back in the playoff spots. They’ve scored a hat full of goals recently but that’s maybe not so surprising given that three of their best players are forwards. Manager Hazr Poland deserves credit for not only halting anyone striking them down but for also bringing them back more powerful than anyone could have possibly imagined…. They come into this game with a few players missing however and face a tough test against Blackburn.

Blackburn have been very indifferent of late despite star defender Rio Ferdinand playing well at the back for them. However, the lack of a decent partner at the back for him has meant they have struggled to keep many clean sheets so far this season. It will be disappointing for one of the early season favorites to find themselves so far off the pace with over half of the season gone, and the manager may need to strengthen if he wants his team to start climbing back up the league.

On paper Blackburn have a much stronger side. However Burnley can’t be taken lightly in this form and should probably be considered favorites.

Burnley 2 - 1 Blackburn Rovers

Coventry City - Preston North End

Coventry continue to underperform so far this season despite having a good squad. The media shy manager has not managed to get the best out of his players as they slide steadily down the table. They have some players missing ahead of this match and may struggle against a strong Preston side.

Preston are currently enjoying life in the playoff places but missed a chance to the close the gap on the leaders midweek after a disappointing performance. They have a good side and one of the most active managers in the setup in Van Gaal who is clearly putting some effort into improving his team. They have no injuries ahead of this match and will be confident of taking all the points away to poor Coventry.

Both of these sides have good starting lineups and good long term prospects. Other than that, the two managers couldn’t be more different in how they act. While Van Gaal has been a transfer market animal, Tze rarely seems to bid for players or respond to offers, content in the players he already has. As for this game, I see Preston overcoming a stale Coventry side.

Coventry City 0 - 2 Preston North End

Cardiff-1.png Cardiff City - Watford Watford-1.png

Cardiff have been another side struggling for consistency in recent weeks and have lost nearly as many as they have won. The side seems a little bit top heavy with several of their best players being forwards. The defense is the weakest by some distance of any of the teams in Division 2 and they often rely on outscoring their opponents. The come into this game with no players missing and will be confident of outscoring Watford.

Watford however will have different ideas. They have improved in recent weeks and climbed away from the drop zone, picking up nine points from a possible twelve. It’s a fairly balanced side but without any real standout players and they lack real depth past their first 12 players and that could cause them a problem as they have several players missing for various reasons.

There isn’t a great deal between these two sides in terms of starting lineups, nor in form. However, with Watford missing several players, the edge seems to be with Cardiff.

Cardiff City 2 – 1 Watford

Note: As I’m limited to 15 images for 20 teams some have missed out on having their logo displayed... It’s unfortunate, but so is being at work when I could have been at home on my xbox shooting Americans…

Division Three Predictions – Season Four – Turn Twenty One

  • Barnsley vs Sheffield Wednesday

Barny missed their big chance against Rochdale losing 1-0 in a game that seen them drop out the top 6, quite bad little run just now with 2 losses in 3. They face Wednesday who are actually lower in the table but starting to find good form with 3 wins in 4, they are still not safe though and need more wins to remain above the drop.

Barny 1 - 2 Wednesday

  • Yeovil Town vs Rochdale

Important win for Yeovil last game away at a team above them in the table and one that takes them into the top 10 and just 2 from the play-offs, they're recovering well from their bad spell. They face Rocky Road who just about passed their big test against Barny edging the game 1-0 to stay top by 4 points now, tricky one here though.

Yeovil 2 - 2 Rocky Road

  • Peterborough United vs Chesterfield

The Posh's solid form continued with a point away at Hull, it didn't move them out the drop zone but keeps them very much in the hunt to escape very soon. They face Chester who are in terrible form that's seen them slowly drop down the table, luckily they're just 1 point from top 6 so not major manic yet.

The Posh 3 - 0 Chester

  • Carlisle United vs Hull City

Carly really HAD to win against bottom side Walsall an going off stats it should have been but alas they failed and so Rochdale increase their lead at the top, also with that draw it drags Alders back into auto contention so more pressure on the home side here. Hull meanwhile could only draw at home to Peterborough in the new manager’s first game, all about stabilization for him right now.

Carly 2 - 2 Tigers

  • Aldershot Town vs Walsall

Very nice 4-1 win away last game for Alders, yes against an awful Palace but it had to be got and with it they are now joint 2nd and next face the bottom side Walsall where they can really pile pressure on Carly by winning. Walsall are bottom but by no means out of it 5 points adrift but by drawing with Carlisle have shown they're no push-overs.

Alders 3 - 1 Saddlers

  • Ipswich Town vs Crystal Palace

Ipswich are in lightening form that is seeing them rocket up the table, without the 5 wins in 6 they'd be bottom but can now realistically aim for top 6, great turn around by them. Palace on the other hand are going the opposite way having not won a league game in 9 they are down to 13th and only look like dropping further, this game could get messy.

Tractor boys 5 - 0 Palace

  • Dagenham & Redbridge vs Portsmouth

Daggers in the last 6 are the draw specialists but also unbeaten with a win in those games and for now that will do fine and keep them up, mid-table is good. Portsmouth lost at home to inform Ipswich last game making it two losses on the spin which has just halted their title push somewhat, this game they need to win to keep in the race.

Daggers 1 - 1 Pompey

  • Aston Villa vs Swansea City

Swansea managed to stop the rot slightly with a draw against Daggers but again it was a lucky win being dominated on possession at home, relegation is still a big possibility. They face Villa who are starting to get out of their very bad patch having moved back into the top 6 but are still very beatable.

Swansea 1 - 1 Villa

  • Oldham Athletic vs Millwall

Oldham managed a fine away win at Brighton last game which whilst keeping them in 9th place keeps up the good run that could see them move into the top 6 after this game. Millwall may be bottom but their form puts them about mid table so they can cause problems and are of course desperate to get out the bottom three.

Oldham 3 - 2 Millwall

  • Exeter City vs Brighton and Hove Albion

Exeter got leapfrogged by Villa last game as they lost away at the in-form Wednesday but overall things are going along very nicely for them right now and much improved on their 13th place finish last campaign, still, all about staying there. Brighton were beginning to pull away from the drop but two defeats now brings them back in to contention, and with the gap being just 2 points things can change fast.

Exeter 3 - 0 Brighton

Division Three Predictions – Season Four – Turn Twenty Two

  • Sheffield Wednesday vs Rochdale

Sheff Wed got leaped over by the inform Posh last game but are still outside of the drop by one point, this game is a very tough one for them against the 1st placed team. The Dale have hit a a small bad run with 2 defeats in 3 games preventing them from building a meaningful lead at the top, this is one they need to win.

Wednesday 1 - 2 Rocky Road

  • Barnsleyvs Chesterfield

Barny edged back into the top 6 last game with a very nice win over Rochdale, this game against an out of form Chester can really compound that success and make their play-off position more secure. Chester are on a horrid run that has dragged them down to the bottom half of the table but more worryingly closer to the bottom 3.

Barny 3 - 0 Chester

  • Yeovil Town vs Hull City

Yeovil managed a brilliant win last game against Rochdale which makes it 3 wins in 4 games and keeps them close to taking a play-off spot. Hull are in very poor form and without a win in 6 games with 3 draws, this will be tough form them and a loss could see them drop further down.

Yeovil 3 - 1 Hull

  • Peterborough United vs Walsall

Not sure where it's come from but The Posh have suddenly found a startlingly good run of form, 13 points in the last 6 games has turned it around completely. Walsall are now where they once were and really could do with a similar run, this though would be a good point if they could manage it.

The Posh 4 - 1 Walsall

  • Carlisle United vs Crystal Palace

Carlisle have taken advantage of Rochdale's poor form to go within 1 point of them at the top, this game is one they'd see as impossible not to win. Palace are the team in worst form in the league and have gone from play-off contenders to cannon fodder within about 10 games, bad times.

Carly 5 - 0 Palace

  • Aldershot Town vs Portsmouth

Alders continue to defy belief int his division, going from 17th place last year to joint 2nd as we stand, excellent work by the manager. They play the team just below them in what is probably the biggest game of the turn with the winner getting at least 3rd maybe even an auto spot, hard to judge this one.

Alders 3 - 2 Pompey

  • Ipswich Town vs Swansea City

Ipswich like Peterborough have plucked a brilliant run of form seemingly out of thin air accruing half their points in the last 5 games, one more win could see them jump to 6th from 10th. Well typical of Swansea they needed a win and they got it just in time, unfortunately for them everyone knows Villa are on the turn so it doesn't mean they're out of the rot, not by a long way.

Tractor Boys 4 - 0 Swans

  • Dagenham & Redbridge vs Millwall

Daggers like previously are just staying safely in mid-table getting enough to stay from the bottom 5 or 6 but not enough to challenge the top 6. Millwall really lack any consistency right now which is a big reason for them being where they are, how they'd love a shock win here.

Daggers 0 - 1 Millwall

  • Aston Villa vs Brighton and Hove Albion

Villa are currently making the most their early good start as right now they are just limping along and producing relegation form. Brighton after their brief revival have now hit a brick wall square in the face as they lose 3 in a row, this however is a game they should win.

Villa 1 - 3 Brighton

  • Exeter City vs Oldham Athletic

Exeter are another side who are just about in the play-offs by one point and need to win these sort of games vs the play-off challengers to build a buffer. Oldham however will be well up for this task after getting 5 wins in 6 games and will look to knock Exeter out of the park as they take 5th place.

Exeter 0 - 3 Oldham

Division 2 previews and predictions

npowerchampionship.jpg

Turn 22

04/01/2012

Charlton Athletic vs Queens Park Rangers

Charlton suffered a surprise away defeat to struggling Leicester at the weekend and know another defeat tonight could see them drop out of the top two with their opponents taking their place.

QPR picked up a creditable point away at West Ham on Saturday to extend their unbeaten run even further and they will head to the Valley in confident mood. Their away form is by no means the best and that will have to be improved if they want to fight for the automatic promotion spots.

stat attack - QPR are the lowest scorers away from home in the current top six with just 15 goals.

steve025 predicts - Charlton Athletic 1 vs 2 Queens Park Rangers

Leicester City vs Norwich City

Leicester's surprise victory over second place Charlton at the weekend saw them climb out of the bottom three and they will fancy springing another surprise here against the table toppers. Leicester have a decent home record for a struggling side and will be looking to keep that up tonight.

Norwich look like a side on the crest of a wave and sit a comfortable nine points clear at the top of the table. They edged a tight game 1-0 away at Bury last time out and will be looking to avoid the banana skin tonight.

stat attack - Norwich are the only team in the division yet to register a draw.

steve025 predicts - Leicester City 1 vs 3 Norwich City

West Ham United vs Nottingham Forest

West Ham will be looking to close the gap on the top six with a win against fellow play off hopefuls Forest. The Hammers held inform QPR to a draw at the weekend and need to build on that to stand any chance of fighting for a top six finish.

Forest have been a major disappointment so far and their season plummeted to new depths with a humiliating 5-3 away defeat to bottom club Derby County at the weekend. Forest have been better away than they have at home so they will take heart from that.

stat attack - West ham have lost five games at home this season more than any of the current top 10.

steve025 predicts - West Ham United 1 vs 1 Nottingham Forest

Bury vs Plymouth Argyle

Bury slipped back in the bottom three despite a spirited performance in their defeat at the hands of table toppers Norwich. They sit bottom of the form table with five defeats from their last six games and with Plymouth still having eyes on the top two places this looks a big ask.

Plymouth produced a fine away performance last time out to beat Blackpool 3-1 at Bloomfield Road and will be looking to pile the misery on Bury fans with a similar scoreline here. They are unbeaten in their last three games but with things still tight at the top anything could happen whatever the result here.

stat attack - Bury are the joint lowest scorers on home soil netting just 10 goals at Gigg Lane.

steve025 predicts - Bury 0 vs 2 Plymouth Argyle

Derby County vs Birmingham City

Derby's superb 5-3 home win over Forest at the weekend extended their unbeaten run to three games and know that a win in this fixture could potentially see them out of the relegation zone should other results go their way.

Birmingham continue to struggle for form and are currently four games without a win. Recently appointed manager Stephen Holland picked up his first point as manager with a 1-1 draw with fellow struggler's Reading and the Brummies will now be hoping they can build on that and halt Derby's resurgence with a first win for their new manager..

stat attack - This fixture has produced 16 goals in just three meetings

steve025 predicts - Derby County 3 vs 2 Birmingham City

Blackpool vs Doncaster Rovers

Blackpool remain in 11th place after their 3-1 home defeat to Plymouth at the weekend and despite sitting just in the bottom half a decent run of form could see them fight for a place in the top six but with just two wins from their last six games a big upturn in fortunes is needed.

Doncaster have done well to keep from the relegation zone after bookies had them nailed on at the beginning of the season. They lost narrowly to West Brom at the weekend to keep their inconsistent form going but this looks a tough task considering their poor form on their travels.

stat attack - Only bottom of the table Derby have picked up fewer points on the road than Doncaster.

steve025 predicts - Blackpool 3 vs 1 Doncaster Rovers

Reading vs Blackburn Rovers

Reading are in free fall sitting second bottom of the league with goal difference the only stat keeping them off the bottom. Nobody has stepped forward to take charge of the club and whoever takes the job has a lot of work to do to keep the club in the division.

Blackburn have been a major disappointment this season and have a lot of work to do if they are to challenge for a play off place. They have won just once in their last five games and after their defeat to fierce rivals Burnley at the weekend confidence will be in short supply.

stat attack - Reading have conceded 20 goals on home turf this season only Watford have conceded more.

steve025 predicts - Reading 1 vs 2 Blackburn Rovers

West Bromwich Albion vs Preston North End

West Brom currently occupy the last play off place but know a win tonight could see them fight for a place in the top two. They have three wins from their last four games and with decent home form behind them they will fancy their chances.

Preston have slipped off the pace in recent times and now find themselves out of the top six altogether. They were held to a 3-3 away at Coventry last time around and will target a win here to return to the play off places at the expense of their host.

stat attack - Only top of the table Norwich have won more home games than West Brom this season.

steve025 predicts - West Bromwich Albion 2 vs 0 Preston North End

Burnley vs Watford

Burnley are the form side in the division at present winning their last seven games and they have come from nowhere to be considered a strong favourite for promotion. Their latest victory cam over bitter rivals Blackburn and confidence will be at an all time high at Turf Moor.

Watford are just one point clear of the relegation places following their 2-2 draw away at Cardiff on Saturday. The Hornets have won three of their last six league games but this looks a massive task against a side cruising at present.

stat attack - Watford have won just once against Burnley in five previous attempts

steve025 predicts - Burnley 3 vs 0 Watford

Cardiff City vs Coventry City

Cardiff remain in the play off hunt despite a disappointing draw at home to struggling Watford last time out despite that they remain unbeaten in three games and a decent result here could keep the pressure on the sides currently in the top six.

Coventry picked up a hard earned point at home against play off chasing Preston at the weekend and they will be looking to go one better here but with just one win from their last six in the league big things are needed or they could end up in a relegation dogfight.

stat attack - Cardiff along with Notts Forest have the worst home form of any team in the current top 10.

steve025 predicts - Cardiff City 2 vs 2 Coventry City

Re: English Championship 7046 Previews & Predictions Thread

preview-div-4.png

0,,10372~3683438,00.gif

So what has been going on so far in D4 then?

22 games gone and there looks like a breakaway 5 at the top going for the title then anyone else can still make a rush for the play offs although there are a few that's chances will be ending if they dont get a grip and start a wee run soon.

Back to the Predictions:

Division 4

Hartlepool United - Gillingham

Hartlepool are sitting just 5 points of the top of the league and boast teh leagues top scorer in Sercan Yildrim and will still beleive they have title aspirations.Gillingham sit 9 points of the play offs and are sitting in a decent place for a push for the play offs given a wee run of form. Both teams are without a win in the last 3 games but I think the fact that Hartlepool have win 4 /drew 1 of last 5 will be enough for them to get the 3 points here in a close fought game .Gillingham have Endo out injured.

Pred:2-1

Bristol Rovers - Rotherham United

Rovers without a win in last 13 league games are rooted to teh bottom of teh league .Rotherham sit in 10th ,finely placed and just 6 points behind the play offs, will be hoping for a repeat of the 3-1 reverse fixture of this to get them up to stalking the playoffs and with the form of Bristol I can see that being a real possibility.

Pred: 0-3

Southend United - Notts County

Definite game of the day in division 4.

Newly top of the table Southend are in great form under the new leadership~7 league games played and 5 wins/1 draw/1 defeat and go into this with 2 clean sheets in the last games.Notts County are joint top and go into this game with 3 wins on the bounce knowing a win here will put tehm top of the league. The last 5 games between the sides have produced a 5-6 aggregate scoreline and never has a game between the sides been won by more than 1 goal.No injury/suspension worries for County but Southend are missing Ibiric & Gouffran [injury] & Catala [suspension].Hard to call but I will stick my neck out and say a 1-0 win for the tea lady.

Pred:1-0

Shorpe United - Accrington Stanley

The Ss won last time out is it a blip or a 'sign' of a start of form?Knowing Dave it is probably a blip, The Ss sit 13 points off the play offs and need to get a run started .Joe has Stanley in fine form losing just once in the last 9 games and sit just 6 points off the play offs so will be queitley confident of evening up the head to head battles which currently sit @ 2-1 in favour of the Ss.This game has the chance of being a cracker high scorer if the 18 goals over the 3 head to heads are taken into consideration~6 goals a game.

Pred 2-3

Wycombe Wanderers - Northampton Town

Wycome are unbeaten in last 4 games which is decent for for a side sitting in 19th they will be hoping to keep the run going here.Northampton are just 2 points off the play offs they have won 2 of there last 3 games,Sir Abdul will be hoping for a repeat of the 1-0 win in the reverse fixture to keep the play off push going.

Pred:1-2

Brentford - Tranmere Rovers

Game of the day 2 in the division.

Brentford sit in 8th place and are the form side of the division with 16 points from 18 they sit just one point off the play offs the same as Tranmere do .Tranmere have been frustrating manager Steve as the struggle to give the consistency he merits from them but they are still in decent form with 10 points from last 6 games and are just the point off the play offs themselves in 7th ahead of Brentford on goal difference..It was a 0-0 draw in teh reverse fixture and I could easily sit on the fence and go draw here but I am going to stick my neck out [much to the disdain of Steve I think] and go with the form side and predict a home win.

Pred:2-0

Burton Albion - Stockport County

Stockports lead has dwindled away over the last 6 games and they now find

themselves in 3rd a point off the autos .That is mainly from the form taht they have been showing in just picking up 8 points from last 18 points available ~12th place in the form table. There is still plenty time to grab there lead back and they will be hoping it starts against Will's Burton who yet there league position of 14th in the table they have taken the same number of points in the last 6 games as Stockport, they sit just 10 points of the pay off zone [sic] and will be hoping that the 3-2 head to head advantage they hold over the meetings of the sides will be in there favour as they have won both home ties against Stockport by 4 clear goals..I seer hammer grabbing the 3 points by the bawlls here though.

Pred:1-3

Leyton Orient - Swindon Town

Orient have finally started to get a grip after the downfall which saw them fall from d3 last season .4 wins from last 6 games sees them sit just 10 points off the play offs and with form like that they could still muster a promo challenge beating or not losing to Swindon would be a good start as they hold that final play off berth at the minute.Swindon are winless in teh last 3 and have dropped to the edges of the play off zone, they will be hoping to get back on track here and exact a carbon copy of the 2-0 win they inflicted in the reverse fixture.

Pred 2-3

AFC Bournemouth - Shrewsbury Town

Bournemoth are in great form and have won there last 3 games on teh bounce they will be hoping to take advantage of the winless in 10 games Shrews [1 win last 17 league games] .I think the Shrewsbury manager is lost or maybe he is just keeping up the good form to keep himself a point clear of fellow D4 manager of the year candidate @the Ss.

Pred 4-0

Colchester United - Southampton

Southampton are up in 4th place and are just 2 points off top of the table, they are in decent form and will be glad to see that man-of-much-twittering-nonsense Infernito has popped in for what will no doubt be a short campaign as manager even through the struggles of theclub they still have a 2-1 head to head win ratio so tehre may be a shock on here but I very much doubt it.Big win on the cards here which may even see Southampton go top with there already best of the table goal difference.

Pred:1-5

Division 2 previews and predictions

npowerchampionship.jpg

Turn 24

11/01/2012

Queens Park Rangers vs Norwich City

In form QPR have been boosted ahead of this crunch game with the appointment of Barnaby Dowling as their new manager. They edged a tight game at home against Cardiff at the weekend to climb to third and three points here could potentially see them enter the automatic promotion spots.

Norwich look to be heading towards the title in style with their most recent result a 3-0 drubbing of nearest rivals Charlton at the weekend. Manager Josh Horne is already my manager of the season but this will be a tough test for the Canaries.

stat attack - The 9 away goals conceded so far this season by Norwich is the third fewest across all four divisions.

steve025 predicts - Queens Park Rangers 1 vs 1 Norwich City

Charlton Athletic vs Nottingham Forest

Charlton will be looking to bounce back following their defeat to top of the league Norwich at the weekend. They know a defeat here could see them drop out of the top two and with their form not the best it's sure to be a nervy performance.

Forest have really come into form in recent weeks winning four of their last six games. They beat struggling Leicester at home on Saturday and know a win in this game could see them in the play off zone.

stat attack - Forest have scored 23 goals away from home this season only Charlton and Blackpool have scored more.

steve025 predicts - Charlton Athletic 1 vs 2 Nottingham Forest

Leicester City vs Plymouth Argyle

Despite losing their last two games Leicester still have a chance of climbing out of the relegation zone and with four of their six wins coming on home soil they know home form is the key. They have a couple of injuries to contend with which isn't helping their cause.

Plymouth remain in the play off zone despite a home defeat to West Ham at the weekend. Their away form is ok but some consistency on that front could help strengthen their place in the top six.

stat attack - Leicester's 23 goals conceded at home is the worst along with Watford and Reading.

steve025 predicts - Leicester City 1 vs 3 Plymouth Argyle

West Ham United vs Birmingham City

10th place West Ham picked up a superb away win over Plymouth on Saturday to reignite their play off ambitions they are still four points off the last play off spot so know a win here is essential to keep up the pressure.

One win from their last six games will worry Brum fans who must fear for their team. They drew at home to fellow struggler's Bury last time out and have fallen to 15th place but 7 points still separates them from the last relegation place.

stat attack - West Ham have lost six games at home so far more than any other team in the top 10.

steve025 predicts - West Ham United 2 vs 1 Birmingham City

Bury vs Doncaster Rovers

Bury are bottom of the form table picking up just two points from their last six games. Their most recent result was a draw away at Birmingham and their fans will be hoping their side take some confidence from that.

Doncaster produced a stunning performance to batter sorry Derby 5-1 at home in their last fixture a result that saw them climb to 14th. They will have eyes on another victory here but their inconsistent form could come back to haunt them.

stat attack - 15 goals have been scored between the two teams in just three previous meetings

stat attack - Bury 2 vs 2 Doncaster Rovers

Derby County vs Blackburn Rovers

Derby remain rooted to the bottom of the table after their heavy defeat to Doncaster at the weekend and they look to be slipping back into poor form after a mini revival saw them go three games unbeaten. They know a win here is vital to avoid slipping away from the teams near them.

Blackburn are beginning to find form again after winning three of their last four. They beat Blackpool at home on Saturday to climb to 9th and another three points here could see their play off hopes back on.

stat attack - This fixture always produces goals 15 have been netted in just three encounters.

steve025 predicts - Derby County 0 vs 2 Blackburn Rovers

Blackpool vs Preston North End

Blackpool will be going all out to get one over the fierce rivals here. The Tangerines were beaten by fellow North West side Blackburn at the weekend and know a loss here could see them plummet down the league table.

PNE were beaten by struggling Reading at home at the weekend a result that saw them drop to 6th. With things getting tight at the top they know any slip up will be punished and they will be going all out to win this for their fans.

stat attack - Preston have beaten Blackpool just once in five previous encounters

steve025 predicts - Blackpool 1 vs 3 Preston North End

Reading vs Watford

Reading pulled off a shock at the weekend with their win over play off chasing Preston and with the appointment of Avram Grant as their new manager fans will now be hoping their side can pull away from trouble and build some much needed form.

Watford themselves pulled off a shock with their home win over West Brom and know that a win in this match will see them go six points clear of Bury. With just two defeats from their last six Watford look to be finsing some form at the right time.

stat attack - This fixture has a habit of producing goals with a 6-1 and 6-0 amongst the previous results.

steve025 predicts - Reading 1 vs 3 Watford

West Bromwich Albion vs Coventry City

West Brom have lost three out of their last four a run that has seen them drop to 8th. They were beaten by struggling Watford on Saturday a real shock but with local pride at stake the form book goes out of the window.

Coventry are unbeaten in three and look to be showing signs of a revival. They stunned Burnley at the weekend with a 2-0 victory and will be hoping for more of the same against their fellow Midlands side.

stat attack - West Brom have conceded 19 goals at home so far this season only West Ham have conceded more in the current top 10

steve025 predicts - West Bromwich Albion 1 vs 1 Coventry City

Cardiff City vs Burnley

Cardiffs faltering play off hopes took a further hit with defeat to QPR at the weekend a result that saw them drop to 12th. It's now three games without a win for the Bluebirds and they know any hopes of a top six finish are fading with every defeat.

Despite a shock defeat to Coventry at the weekend Burnley remain top of the form table. The loss saw them drop to 4th but only on goal difference and they know a win in this match could see them level on points with Charlton who occupy second.

stat attack - Burnley have won four of the five previous meetings

steve025 predicts - Cardiff City 1 vs 3 Burnley

The Championship

NpowerChampionship.jpg

Turn 25 – Weekend Games – 14-1-12

Norwich.png Norwich City - Cardiff City Cardiff-1.png

What can you say about Norwich. If they can continue this form for even as little as another 6 games they will probably have the league wrapped up with the chasing pack dropping points all over the place. They have now won four in a row to extend their lead to 15 points and manager Josh Horne certainly does look an early favorite for manager of the year. The squad looks to be in fairly decent shape ahead of this match with only one suspension in the side and the manager should be able to field a strong line up.

Cardiff have been poor in recent weeks and now haven’t won a game in four. An away trip to league leaders probably wasn’t what they wanted as the manager tries to get his side back on track. Despite this, the side looks a decent one and they should get back on track sooner or later. They find themselves in 12th place currently, but clearly aren’t good enough to make a push for playoff places and some re-structuring is needed if they wish to progress. The manager should have a fully fit squad to choose from ahead of this match.

The two teams are similar in their overall ability; Cardiff have more out and out match winners, but Norwich are a better balanced side. The real deciding factor is the managers, and with that in mind Norwich are the clear winners at this point in time.

Norwich City 2 - 0 Cardiff City

Forest.png Nottingham Forest - Queens Park Rangers QPR.png

Big Mo’s men look like they have really got their act together and another win midweek saw them climb to within one place off the play off places. It was their third win in a row and was more impressive as they overcame a good Charlton side away. With Iniesta finally becoming the force we knew he could be at this level it seems that Forest will continue to climb. There were never any doubts from this previewer about the manager’s ability and it was simply a matter of finding a tactic that worked for his side. Forest will have a fully fit side available for this match and will be confident of a win.

Rangers new manager got off to a disappointing start midweek, but then he was unlucky enough to take on Division 2 wonder team Norwich in his first outing. They still sit in the play off places, but it’s very tight in that area and the new man will need to get his side back on track as soon as possible. Dowling has stated already that he plans to restructure the side, something that maybe should have been done before now, but we at 3-5-2 sports wish him all the best in his endeavors. Ahead of this match only Peter Crouch is missing through injury after banging his head on a basketball hoop and suffering concussion.

Both these sides have some decent players, but Forest have a clear advantage in the starting 11 of the two sides. Add in home advantage and better form and unfortunately it looks like another defeat for the new QPR supremo.

Nottingham Forest 2 - 0 Queens Park Rangers

Plymouth.png Plymouth Argyle - Charlton Athletic Charlton.png

Plymouth seem to have hit a minor sticky patch (possibly something deposited from Zakkoo in excitement after his recent signings) though they still find themselves in the playoff spots for now. The manager has done a good in his first season and will be hoping to get his side back to winning ways as soon as possible. Plymouth have some undoubted quality in the side, but with one of the thinnest squads in any of the four divisions they will need to start looking for ways to find back up players in case of injury. The Fury seems to know what he’s doing however and it will be interesting to see what direction the team goes in future weeks.

Charlton have also hit a bad run of form lately and now have four defeats in six games. It’s a shame for the manager who has done very well to get his mediocre side into the lofty heights of second and kept them there for most of the season. With Preston now breathing down their necks it seems just a matter of time before they are over taken unless Boss Hogg can get them back to winning ways sooner than later. They come into this game with only minor injury worries so the manager will be fairly confident he can field a strong side.

Both sides have dropped points in recent games so recent form can be partially discounted. The home side seem to have a better starting 11, and home advantage cannot be ruled out, so despite being a fan of Charlton’s manager for the job he’s done, I would have to predict a home win.

Plymouth Argyle2 - 1 Charlton Athletic

Birmingham-1.png Birmingham City - Leicester City Leicester.png

Birmingham’s recent form seems to have improved recently as they climb further away from any relegation trouble. They now sit in 12th place which isn’t bad considering the issues they had a few weeks back. The old manager also deserves some credit for this, he had managed to get the side stabilized before moving on. However the new manager seems to have adopted a “hands off” approach and hasn’t been seen if a few days at the time of writing. The squad looks like it will be a decent one in the long term, though lacks quality at this level just now.

Leicester continue to struggle and haven’t won in three games. They are still in the relegation area and saw Bury win midweek to pull a little further away from them. The side look like they have enough quality to stay up, but the manager seems to be having real problems getting the best out of his team. If they manage to survive this season the manager may want to get rid of some of his older players before they deteriorate too much more. With only minor injuries to worry about Gozzy should be able to field his strongest side ahead of this game.

Form in this game would suggest a home win while Leicester’s superior players would seem to give them an advantage. Personally I feel this may be the game that Gozzy gets his side back on track.

Birmingham City 1 – 2 Leicester City

Doncaster.png Doncaster Rovers - West Ham United WestHam.png

Rovers have struggled for any form of consistency in recent weeks and find themselves in 15th place as a result. On loan Lucas Levia has been a rock at the center of the team and everything good the side produce seems to come through him, though there seems precious little quality around him. The side does have a few injuries to contend with so the manager will almost certainly need to shuffle his pack ahead of this match.

The Hammers also seem to be struggling somewhat in recent weeks and have dropped to tenth place after looking likely to finish in the playoff spots. Fitzpatrick is another manager that has been actively trying to restructure his side so its maybe not so surprising that results suffer as he shapes the side. However, finishing in the playoff places should be the minimum for them to aim for and anything below this will be considered a poor season. It does however seem just a matter of time before the manager gets things right and the Hammers get back on track.

Looking at the two sides it’s clear that West Ham have a clear advantage in the starting lineups of the sides. They maybe just edge the recent form as well, but give up home advantage to their hosts, though I think Fitzpatrick will be able to outsmart his rival on this occasion.

Doncaster Rovers 0 - 2 West Ham United

Blackburn-1.png Blackburn Rovers - Bury Bury.png

Rovers have been a little indifferent in recent weeks, though they have managed to climb to mid-table. They are still a long way short of their playoff target however need to improve in order to get there. A heavy defeat to Division 2 whipping boys Derby will not have helped the team’s confidence but they need to put that behind them quickly in order to get back on track. Zanko will have a fully fit squad to choose from here as they look to pile more misery on Bury.

Bury got a rare win midweek, and what a win it was. They dominated possession for long periods of the game yet struggled to get many shots on target. That said, they had four chances and scored all four, if only they could do that more often then Bury would be challenging at the top rather than the bottom. Matterson will have a few players missing ahead of this match however and this will make his side’s job a little bit harder.

Rovers have a much better starting lineup than their opposition in this match and have been in better form generally. Despite being a secret Bury fan, a home win is predicted.

Blackburn Rovers 2 – 0 Bury

Preston North End - Derby County

Preston got back on track midweek with a solid win to cement their third place and climb a little bit closer to an automatic promotion spot. The side had been a little bit indifferent in recent weeks but look to be going in the right direction again. Van Gaal has been extremely active in the transfer market so far this season and it’s a testament to his good management that his side have marched on despite all the recent personnel changes. They do have a few fitness concerns ahead of this match however.

Derby, despite picking up 10 points from a possible 18, still can’t get off the foot of the table. Its surprising that a side that looks reasonable strong at this level is rock bottom of the league at this stage of the season, while a team that looks relatively weak are so far clear. Despite this, the long term future of Derby looks good, though they may well have to try and bring in better players in the short term to help their chances of staying up.

Looking at these two sides on face value would suggest a Derby win as they have the stronger starting 11. However, there seems to be a gap in managerial ability on this evidence. With this in mind I’d be tempted to a Preston win, I will however predict a draw here.

Preston North End 1 - 1 Derby County

Watford - Blackpool

Watford have now managed back to back wins to help them climb away from the drop zone for the first time in a while. The sides looks a decent one at this level so I would expect them to continue climbing, though it would appear to be too late for them to do any better than mid table this season. With no injuries ahead of this game the manager will be able to field his strongest line up.

Blackpool’s recent form seems to have taken a turn for the worse with two back to back defeats meaning they are going in the wrong direction. They, like Watford, have a decent side at this level but are probably a little weak to push for playoff places without some strengthening. Blackpool will have some injury’s to contend with coming into this game to one of their main players.

These two sides are similar in players, but exact opposites in recent form. Watford have played poorly most of the season but have been better in the last two, Blackpool have played well most of the season but have been poor in their last two. A draw seems most likely.

Watford 1 - 1 Blackpool

Coventry City - Reading

Coventry’s recent good run came to an end midweek with an away defeat. However with the manager being absent from training for a few days it seems likely the assistant manager will be left to pick the team up and get them back on track ahead of this match. It’s a fairly good side at this level so I would expect them to get back to winning ways sooner than later, and with no injuries, lowly reading could be an easy target.

Reading continue to struggle towards the foot of the table and with Derby now picking up points could find themselves last by Sunday. They desperately need to find some performances from somewhere as they have become relegation favorites. Should they drop though the trap door the side looks unlikely to have enough quality to get back up and they may be condemned to Division 3 football without big improvements from the new manager. With several fitness concerns ahead of this match they look like they will really struggle. Good luck to Avram, he looks like he’ll need it.

Coventry look a better side throughout, and with them being in better form I find it hard to see Reading getting anything out of this game.

Coventry City 2 – 0 Reading

Burnley.png Burnley - West Bromwich Albion WestBrom.png

Burnley’s recent good run of form came to an abrupt halt over the last week with them only managing one point in two games. It’s a shame for them as they looked odds on to climb into the automatic promotion spots but it’s a fairly good squad at this level and they should get back on track sooner than later, though maybe not in this match. They have a few injuries ahead of this match but should have enough depth for it to affect them too much.

West Brom have been indifferent in recent weeks but managed to win their last game. It’s been a difficult time for the manager after his communications blackout inflicted by the governing body, the SMFA, Belkevitz is currently trying to strengthen his side but has found it difficult to set up a deal that is suitable to his club so far. They come into this game no with fitness issues so the manager will be able to field his strongest side.

Both of these sides have decent players at this level and good managers so it will be interesting to see how things play out. Burnley have been in better form so far this season but have a few injuries. Overall I think this may be a draw, but Burnley look the more likely to win.

Burnley1 - 1 West Bromwich Albion

Note: As I’m limited to 15 images for 20 teams some have missed out on having their logo displayed... It’s unfortunate, but so is being unable to think of anything funny to put here....

preview-div-4.png

Division 4

Bristol Rovers - Gillingham

Rovers are in dismal form lying rock bottom and winless in god knows how many games. The Gillingham boss will be happy to take the 3 points here

Pred:0-3

Southend United - Hartlepool United

This game is a hard one to chose from.Southend who just lost top spot with that defeat last time out could drop down to 5th place with a defeat here and Harlepool could jump from 5th to 2nd place with a win its that close up at the top.Hartlepool have been scoring for fun and its for that reason I am opting for them for the win.

Pred:1-2

Shorpe United - Rotherham United

Unless Shorpe go into Holiday manager mode there is not much hope here .3 points to Stewarts Rotherham~Banker of the Day.

Pred:0-2

Wycombe Wanderers - Notts County

County have just taken top spot and wont be wanting to give it back too quickly but I see dropped points here with a draw on the cards.

Pred:1-1

Brentford - Accrington Stanley

Looks like Joe will be stepping out of the job and taking the quick route to the top by way of the Stoke job so Brentford if set out to beat unmanaged should ease the 3 points here.

Pred:2-0

Burton Albion - Northampton Town

Nothampton have just poked there way in teh play offs and will be looking to follow the trend of 3wins and a draw on the 5 head to heads between the sides and grab the 3 points here.

Pred:1-2

Leyton Orient - Tranmere Rovers

Tranmere won the reverse fixture of this game 11-0 and will be looking for more of the same here.Leyton though are in much better form than they were in first half of the season and have currently won 4 of last 6 so it should be more of a game this time.Revenge ?Not likely.

Pred:0-4

AFC Bournemouth - Stockport County

Bournemouth have hit a decent patch of form, something that Stockport could do with.Stockport have fell from grace losing taht lead at the top and have just 1 win in last 6 games, I think they will get taht sorted here and get a good result.

Pred:1-3

Colchester United - Swindon Town

Swindon are not in the graetest form even though they sit 7th~Just 2 wins in last 6 is not good form but they won last time out and will be hoping to get the 3 points here to squeeze into them play offs.Colchester boss Mr Burns will take heart from the fact that in 5 head to heads Colchester are unbeaten against Swindon~winning 3 and drawing 2.

preview-div-4.png

0,,10372~3683438,00.gif

Division 4

Bristol Rovers - Southend United

Rovers who sit rock bottom managed to get a point last time out against Gillingham to end that miserably long run of defeats. The tea ladies Southend have gone off the boil lately with no wins in last 3 games they will be looking to get back on track here with 3 points.

Pred:0-3

Hartlepool United - Shorpe United

The ss have just 1 win in last 9 games and were on the end of a 7-0 thrashing last time out so things are not all good at the church of Hugh.Hartlepool are stalking the top 2 and put in a fine performance to see off Southend last time out ,they will be looking to extend there unbeaten head to head run aginst Ss and collect another 3 points here.Hartelpools Yildrim is league top scorer with 20 goals.

3-5-2 ?I would.

Pred :4-2

Rotherham United - Wycombe Wanderers

Stewarts Rotherham have been plugging away well and are now sitting in 8th

position just 4 points off the play off zone they are playing Wycombe who sit down in 19th yet have only lost 1 of there last 6 games so are not in too bad form,I can see Wycombe put a dent in Rotherhams play off hopes here by sn-atching a draw.

Pred:2-2

Notts County - Brentford

Notts County are in superb form 14 points from possible 18 in last 6 games, they sit top of the league and will be hoping to bury the curse of Brentford who they are yet to beat[its not that bad a curse 2x draws and a 5-0 defeat],The top 4 are packed in tightly so any slip up will be punished it looks like.Brentford have hit a wee rocky patch with 2 defeats on the bounce they were 3 wins/1 draw in tthe 4 games before that.I think the combined Elm & Muntari who have a combined 23 goal haul from midfield for County will make all the difference here and get them there first 3 points over Brentford.

Pred:2-1

Accrington Stanley - Burton Albion

Stanley did well after Joe jumped ship to Stoke with a win over Brentford while unmanaged ~Will a new manager be in for the Burton game?

Burton are yet to beat Stanley in 5 attempts but if they stay unmanaged it will be Will's best chance of getting one over on them yet,If he can just put in teh tactics to beat unmanaged which shouldn't be too hard.

Pred:1-2

Northampton Town - Leyton Orient

Sir Abdul's Nothampton are the league's form side with 15 points collected from last 6 games, that has saw them nestle in that 6th place slot,With Tranmere breathing down there necks just a couple of points behind they will be looking for 3 points over Orient who were relegated to this division last season.Orient are not in too bad form picking up 10 points from last 6 games,They are starting to get a bit cut off from the playoffs[14 points behind 6th place] and look like finishing in mid table obscurity.

Pred :2-0

Tranmere Rovers - AFC Bournemouth

Tranmere sit in 7th just outside the play off zone and need to keep the form up that has saw them win there last 2 games ,Elmander who is second top scorer in league with 15 goals could make all the difference in this game with Cacau out injured for the Tranmere.Bournemouth are winless in last 3 and are starting to get detached from the play off group and look like a top 10 finish may be all the best they can muster for the season.

Pred:2-1

Stockport County - Colchester United

Manager Harry the Hammer Redknapp takes pn Infernito in a game hammer needs to win more.Colchester have done well under Infernito since he took over, winning 2 /drawing 1 and losing 1 of the 4 games played,Stockport have blew the lead they had at the top but won last time out to steady the ship and put themselves back in the top 2,with it being so tight at the top they will be wanting teh 3 points here to fend off the other challengers ands they try to reclaim that top spot.I have yet to predict a win for Infernito, they have won 4 of the 5 head to head meetings between the sides which is well in there favout but the manner of that 7-0 defeat in the reverse fixture means I wont be predicting them to win here either.Easy win for Hammer and his boys.

Pred:3-0

Swindon Town - Southampton

Swindon have won just 1 game of last six but its 1 on 3 under the new manager Paul Gibson, they sit 4 points off the play offs in 8th place and will need to start getting a few points on the board to keep tabs on them play off places.Southampton have no wins in the last 4 yet sit only 6 points off the top they will have to get a grip and start grinding out results in games starting with this one.

Pred:1-3

Gillingham - Shrewsbury Town

Gillingham sit just 9 points off the playoff places and have started to gain

momentum with 2 wins and 2 draws in last 4 games.Stuarts Shrews have hit a

purple patch by the Shrews standards with 2 draws and a win in last 3 games which is probably there best run of results this season. The head to head between the sides shows 4 draws in 5 games and I can see another share of teh spoils happening today in a hugh score draw.

Division 2 previews and predictions

npowerchampionship.jpg

Turn 26

18/01/2012

Norwich City vs Nottingham Forest

League leaders Norwich are cruising towards to the title their latest win coming at the weekend were they demolished Cardiff 4-0. The confidence at Carrow Road could not be any better and they will fancy their chances tonight.

Forest suffered a heavy defeat to QPR last time around to slip back to 8th in the table. Big Mo will take heart from the fact that his side perform better on the road but not many will be tipping Forest to take the points tonight.

stat attack - Forest are one of only two teams with just two defeats on the road this season.

steve025 predicts - Norwich City 3 vs 2 Nottingham Forest

Queens Park Rangers vs Plymouth Argyle

QPR picked up a superb away win over Nottingham Forest at the weekend to keep up the pressure on Charlton Athletic who occupy 2nd. They have only lost twice at home so far this season and will start as heavy favourites.

Plymouth have lost just once in their last six games but still find themselves in danger of slipping out of the top six. They drew with Charlton last time out and will be happy with a similar result against QPR.

stat attack - QPR have scored 28 goals at home this season only Doncaster have scored more.

steve025 predicts - Queens Park Rangers 3 vs 1 Plymouth

Charlton Athletic vs Birmingham City

Charlton hang on to second place by the skin of their teeth and with 1st place very much out of sight keeping 2nd has to be the aim but their form has been terrible over recent weeks losing four from their last six but they will fancy their chances here.

Birmingham remain in mid-table after their disappointing home draw with struggling Leicester so will be looking to pile the misery on Charlton and boost their own play off chances in the process.

stat attack - Charlton have the joint 4th best defensive home record in the division

steve025 predicts - Charlton Athletic 1 vs 2 Birmingham City

Leicester City vs Doncaster Rovers

Bottom of the table Leicester contniue to struggle and are without a win in their last four games. They drew away at Birmingham last time out so will be looking to avoid defeat and give themselves a chance of climbing out of the bottom three.

Doncaster have slipped back down the league in recent weeks losing four out of their last six games to sit in 15th position in the table. They were beaten 4-2 at home last time out and defeat here could pull them right back in the relegation scrap.

Stat attack - Doncaster have conceded 33 goals on the road this season the worst record in the division.

steve025 predicts - Leicester City 2 vs 2 Doncaster Rovers

West Ham United vs Blackburn Rovers

West Ham's victory over Doncaster at the weekend saw them climb to 9th in the division and just four points off the top six. Fitzpatrick's men have been far too inconsistent this season but a decent run of form could see them surprise the play off pack.

Blackburn have been something of a disappointment this season following their play off final defeat last season. They were beaten at home by struggling Bury at the weekend and look set to disappoint their expectant fans.

stat attack - It's all even after three games with a win a piece and one draw

steve025 predicts - West Ham United 2 vs 1 Blackburn Rovers

Bury vs Preston North End

Bury picked up a fine win cover Blackburn last time around to climb to 16th in the table and extend their unbeaten run to three games. This game will mark Neil Matterson's 150th in 7046 so the Shakers will be desperate to reward their gaffer with 3 points.

Preston look to have run out of steam and are in great danger of blowing their promotion chances altogether. They lost at home to struggling Derby last time out and defeat here could see them out of the top six altogether.

stat attack - in the three previous meetings the team playing at home has always won.

steve025 predicts - Bury 3 vs 2 Preston North End

Derby County vs Watford

Derby stunned Preston at the weekend to climb off the bottom of the table and should they win tonight there is a slight chance that they could climb out of the relegation places a real turnaround from the Rams.

Watford lost at home to Blackpool on Saturday and with that slip to 17th in the table should they lose tonight there is every chance they could be in the bottom three but this is a tight game to call and it could go either way.

stat attack - Watford have conceded just 17 goals away from home this season 3rd best in the division.

steve025 predicts - Derby County 1 vs 1 Watford

Blackpool vs Coventry City

Blackpool climb to 10th in the table following their away win at Watford at the weekend and a win tonight could reignite their play off ambitions at just the right time.

Coventry's season could still go either way but is most likely to end with a mid-table finish at best. They were beaten at home by relegation threatened Reading last time out and should they lose tonight relegation could be a real possibility of the Sky Blues.

stat attack - Coventry have won 4 of the 5 previous encounters between the two sides.

steve025 predicts - Blackpool 2 vs 2 Coventry City

Reading vs Burnley

Reading have given themselves a great chance of climbing out of the relegation zone following their victory of Coventry but with their home form as poor as it is new manager Avram Grant knows there is still a lot of work to do in order to keep the Royals up.

Burnley are currently three games without a win and are now out of the play off places following their heavy defeat at home to West Brom. Injuries seem to be the main problem at the minute and should they ease Burnley still have a great chance.

stat attack - 11 goals have been hared between the two teams in just three previous meetings

steve025 predicts - Reading 3 vs 2 Burnley

Cardiff City vs West Bromwich Albion

Cardiff are now five games without a win following their defeat to league leaders Norwich at the weekend the defeat saw them down to 13th in the table and like many around them their season could go one way or the other.

West Brom will have their eyes on 2nd spot after their fine away win over Burnley at the weekend. They know that they can't afford too many slip ups with the league so tight so games like this are a must win.

stat attack - West Brom edged the only meeting between these sides last time around

steve025 predicts - Cardiff City 0 vs 3 West Bromwich Albion

Division 4

Turn 27

Southend United - Gillingham

Gillingham have been motoring on nicely and find themselves just 9 points off the play offs they should be able to set tactics to beat the unmanaged but high flying Southend.

Pred:0-2

Shorpe United - Bristol Rovers

Battle of the basement dwellers here.I can confidently say that the Ss will get 3 points. He didn't just say that did he?

Pred:3-0

Wycombe Wanderers - Hartlepool United

Hartelpool seem to be drawing to many games but I can see them doing enough to get 3 points over Sheehans boys.

Pred:1-2

Brentford - Rotherham United

Brentfords good form seems to be lost now with 3 games and nil pois.Rotherham will take the 3 points here just as they have in the last 4 games on the bounce.

Pred:0-2

Burton Albion - Notts County

Pretty even looking game but top of the table County are tipped to win this by the odd goal.

Pred:1-2

Leyton Orient - Accrington Stanley

The new stanley boss is having a bit of a mixed bag of results but with 3 winless games in a row for the O's I have to say I think Stanley will get the 3 points here.

Pred:0-1

AFC Bournemouth - Northampton Town

Form side of D4 Northampton will be looking for 3 points here to keep them in the play off mix.I think they will beat Bournemouth in a close game.

Pred:2-3

Colchester United - Tranmere Rovers

Tranmere are not performing well of late and manager Steve will not be happy after full time here I dont think as Infernito's Colchester look good enough for a point.

Pred:2-2

Southampton - Stockport County

Sothampton winless in last 5 will be hard pressed to get anything from this game against a resurgent Stockport.Stockport to win by a sneaky late goal.

Pred:1-2

Shrewsbury Town - Swindon Town

Swindon heed to get a few wins together to catch on to that playoff group they will have a hard battle against Stu's Shrews but will go home with 3 points.

Division Two Predictions - Turn 27

These are the official Divison Two Predictions by The Zakmiester!

Nottingham Forest - Cardiff City

I can feel this being a very close game, Cardiff City lack depth, but have some good players. But with Forest having the likes of Iniesta, Nests and co... I can see them edging the game.

The Zakmiester Predicts: 2-1

-----------------||--------------------

Plymouth Argyle - Norwich City

*Whilst Plymouth are having a good season I can see them beating the Norwich juggernaut.

The Zakmiester Predicts: 0-2

-----------------||--------------------

Birmingham City - Queens Park Rangers

I can see Birmingham winning this game with some ease, whilst they lack at the back they will do some damage tonight.

The Zakmiester Predicts: 3-1

-----------------||--------------------

Doncaster Rovers - Charlton Athletic

I can see this being a big away win, Charlton are doing very well this season and I can't see Doncaster stopping them, even at home.

The Zakmiester Predicts: 0-4

-----------------||--------------------

Blackburn Rovers *- Leicester City

Both teams are very capable of winning this match, but I can see them both cancelling each other out.

The Zakmiester Predicts: 1-1

-----------------||--------------------

Preston North End - West Ham United

This for me is the game of the turn, two very good clubs clashing together, but I can only see one winner.

The Zakmiester Predicts: 3-4

-----------------||--------------------

Watford - Bury

This will be a close game, but I can see another away win this time.

The Zakmiester Predicts: 2-3

-----------------||--------------------

Coventry City - Derby County

I can see Coventry being spurred on by the backing of their home fans and winning this tie.

The Zakmiester Predicts: 3-1

-----------------||--------------------

Burnley - Blackpool

Both teams are having an average season, both are playing some good football but not very consistent.

The Zakmiester Predicts: 2-2

-----------------||--------------------

West Bromwich Albion - Reading

With the likes of Modric running the play and Toure and Burdisso at the back I think West Brom will stand tall and win this tie.

The Zakmiester Predicts: 2-0

The Championship

NpowerChampionship.jpg

Turn 29 – Weekend Games – 28-1-12

Plymouth.png Plymouth Argyle - Cardiff City Cardiff-1.png

Despite possessing some good players and a good manager, Plymouth look to be a team in free fall. Not one win and four defeats in their last six games have made any realistic playoff hopes that much more difficult. There should be no injury worries ahead of this game however so the manager can field his strongest team.

Cardiff have been patchy in recent weeks but have at least picked up a few wins. The side is a decent one, but looks top heavy with several good strikers but very lightweight in the midfield area. Ahead of this game they have only minor injuries to worry about and should be able to field a strong side.

Plymouth look to be the better side and have more balance, though much like Cardiff they are far too top-heavy. Cardiff have however been in better form, but the sheer weight of good player in the Plymouth side would suggest a home win here.

Plymouth Argyle 2 -1 Cardiff City

Birmingham-1.png Birmingham City - Nottingham Forest Forest.png

Back to back defeats halted Birmingham’s recent solid form and saw them lose some ground on the playoff pack. Oddly, the manager seems to favour wingers and has no less than six in his top seven players. As a result, the side looks weak in the centre and at the back and there is little balance to the team, something for the new manager to work on ahead of next season. The come into this game with only Wright-Phillips injured (winger) so should just about be able to cover that area…

Forest have been a little patchy but have managed to win four in their last six games and remain in the playoff places. Big Mo’s side look to be finally living up to their early season prediction, and though top spot looks well out of their reach now, second is still a realistic aim. The manager will have to shuffle his defense however but they should still have be able to field a strong side.

Looking at the two sides it’s clear that Forest have a stronger side and this will be the main factor going into this game I feel.

Birmingham City 0 – 2 Nottingham Forest

Doncaster.png Doncaster Rovers - Norwich City Norwich.png

A poor run of form has seen Doncaster edging closer to the drop zone game after game and they have only kept their heads above water by dint of the bottom three also failing to win recently. Come the end of the season the Rovers manager will probably owe the Chelsea manager a few pints should on loan star Lucas managed to keep struggling Rovers up despite an obvious lack of quality around him. There are no injuries ahead of this game so the manager will be able to field his strongest side.

Norwich made it eight league wins from eight midweek and look to have the league wrapped up even at this early stage. A comfortable twenty point lead means they only need a few more wins and they should be able to put their feet up while the manager plans for next season and can congratulate himself on a job well done. They are a few players missing coming into this game but they should have enough to field a strong side.

If I was a betting man (which I am by the way), I’d say the odds on a Doncaster win are around 10-1 so it might be worth a few quid on them. However I think you’d be wasting your money…

Doncaster Rovers 0 - 2 Norwich City

Blackburn.png Blackburn Rovers - Queens Park Rangers QPR.png

Despite possessing a strong team at this level, Blackburn are really struggling of late and have not won a match in five attempts. I have some sympathy for the manager however, they have lost games they probably deserved to win and the manager has been active in trying to change formations to counter the opposition, it simply doesn’t seem to be going their way lately. They also have a few injuries ahead of this match just to make things a bit more difficult.

QPR have been rocked by the loss of a second manager in quick succession. Its hard to say if a new man will be installed prior to this game or if the assistant manager Mr Blobby will be handling team affairs. Despite all this, the team continues to perform well and are currently second.

I really want to tip Rovers to get back on track here and pick up some points, especially against (currently) unmanaged QPR, but they seem to be reserving their best form for the cups. However current form suggests an away win. I’ll hedge my bets and go for a draw.

Blackburn Rovers 1 -1 Queens Park Rangers

PNE.png Preston North End - Charlton Athletic Charlton.png

Preston look to be really struggling of late and have managed to nose-dive their way down the league with only one win in six games. Despite this, its still a strong side despite having a few players likely to be missing ahead of this game.

Charlton are another side finding life tough in recent weeks and have dropped out of the automatic promotion spots. It’s a shame for the manager who had done a good job getting his side into a good position, but they have failed to maintain that standard and in this form could drop out of the play spots altogether. With several players missing ahead of this game it could very well be a tough task to take anything from this.

There’s not much between these teams either in players or form, a draw seems most likely.

Preston North End2 -2 Charlton Athletic

Watford - Leicester City

Some poor recent form has prevented Watford climbing out of the drop zone after looking likely to do so a few weeks ago and time is running out for them. The side is mostly fit ahead of this game and should been in good shape.

Leicester have finally found some form to take them away from the relegation places and will be hopeful they can maintain this for a little while longer at least. An injury to player maker Ryan Giggs will dent their chances however.

City look to the stronger side ahead of this game and have found some elusive form at last. That should be enough to overcome a poor Watford side.

Watford 0 – 2 Leicester City

Coventry.png Coventry City - West Ham United WestHam.png

Coventry are a strong side at this level but have been in indifferent form in recent weeks. They have some good players and come into this home game with the side fully fit.

West Ham have been in better form coming into the business end of the season and have proved a hard team to beat thanks to the manager setting with up solidly from the back. They have probably still under-performed overall, but there’s still time for them to make the play-offs and the manager is known to be hard working so you certainly wouldn’t rule them out.

Both sides have strong teams at this level, though The Hammers look to have a better balance to the side. With that in mind I’d probably go with an away win.

Coventry City 1 – 2 West Ham United

Burnley.png Burnley - Bury Bury.png

Burnley had been poor previously but have managed to put a few wins together. It’s a fairly decent squad at this level, but they do have several injuries ahead of this match. They should however just about have enough quality to get though this with some decent back up players.

Bury have been playing very well of late and the side look to have now secured their safety after looking like potential relegation candidates and have transformed themselves into playoff hopeful’s after some good management. They need to keep this run going but that will be tough against what looks to be a superior Burnley side. Bury however look fully fit ahead of this game.

Tough to call this one, Burnley look strong but Bury are in much better form. Could well be a draw.

Burnley 2 - 2 Bury

West Bromwich Albion - Derby County

West Brom have been playing ok recently without ever really hitting top form. They are safely inside the playoff spots at the moment and could do with a few more wins in order to stay there, but the side looks a decent one and they will probably win more than they lose looking at their final run in. They only have minor injuries ahead of this game and this probably won’t affect them too much.

Derby look to be struggling over their last few games and desperately need to put a run together to have any chance of avoiding the drop. With a fairly good side at this level its surprising there are down there at all but they have been a few surprises in this division so far already. The manager has no injury worries ahead of this match.

The two sides look similar with West Brom maybe just shading it. With home advantage and better form, the smart money (ie, mine) is on them.

West Bromwich Albion 3 - 2 Derby County

Reading - Blackpool

Reading are another team that look to be in all kinds of trouble. They are still in the relegation zone and struggling despite a few positive results, but more importantly they look to be weaker than the teams down there with them. The team is relatively injury free ahead of this match however and their fate is in their hands.

Blackpool have been very poor of late and are really struggling. They are dropping down the league quickly and if they can’t start picking up points soon might find themselves caught up in the relegation drop zone. They too have only minor injuries to contend with ahead of this game.

Neither side have been playing well but Reading have at least recorded a few wins. Blackpool look to be the stronger side however, but I’m tempted to go for a draw here.

Reading 1 – 1 Blackpool

Note: As I’m limited to 15 images for 20 teams some have missed out on having their logo displayed... It’s unfortunate, but so is how long its taking SM to review leagues recently….!

Division 2 previews and predictions

npowerchampionship.jpg

Turn 30

01/02/2012

Plymouth Argyle vs Birmingham City

Plymouth are gunning for the play off's and know a victory in this game could see them back in the top six. They returned to winning ways at the weekend after some indifferent form and now is the time for consistency.

Birmingham look set for a mid-table finish but will still want a couple of more wins to make sure. Their recent form is worrying having lost their last three games but they should have enough in the squad to stay up.

stat attack - The last two meetings have ended with a 3-2 scoreline going the way of the team playing at home.

steve025 predicts - Plymouth Argyle 3 vs 1 Birmingham City

Nottingham Forest vs Doncaster Rovers

Forest have won their last three games to climb to 5th in division two and should they win here they will have one eye on the automatic promotion places.

Doncaster could find themselves in the bottom three should they lose this game and with no wins in their last six it has to be said the writing looks on the wall.

stat attack - Doncaster have lost more games away from home than any other team in the division with 12

steve025 predicts - Nottingham Forest 4 vs 0 Doncaster Rovers

Norwich City vs Blackburn Rovers

Champions in waiting Norwich have been nothing but superb all season and it's only a matter of time before they are confirmed at promoted. They have remained professional all season and deserve the success that is coming their way.

Blackburn have been a massive disappointment and could still be relegated should they continue their recent form. They were beaten at home last time out and Rovers fans will be wishing for their misery to end now.

stat attack - Norwich have won 12 games on home soil this season only carlisle in division 3 boast a better record in the county.

steve025 predicts - Norwich City 2 vs 1 Blackburn Rovers

Queens Park Rangers vs Preston North End

Promotion chasing QPR know they cannot afford to slip up as Charlton are waiting to jump back into 2nd place. Their recent form has been very good and Hoops fans will be urging their team to keep that up.

Preston look to have blown their promotion hopes with a poor 2nd half of the season. The one time title challengers find themselves in 9th position and one of the worst teams on current form in the league.

stat attack - The team playing away in this fixture has still to win from five previous meetings.

steve025 predicts - Queens Park Rangers 3 vs 0 Preston North End

Charlton Athletic vs Watford

Charlton will still fancy automatic promotion and they will be looking to build on their three match unbeaten run against the struggling Hornets.

Watford are still in the bottom three on goal difference but know a win or a draw could see them climb out. Looks like a tense ending for everyone connected with Watford.

stat attack - Watford have conceded just 21 goals on their travels the fewest in the bottom half of the division.

steve025 predicts - Charlton Athletic 1 vs 1 Watford

Leicester City vs Coventry City

Leicester will be looking to get back to winning ways after defeat to Watford at the weekend. The Foxes had won their previous three games before that and should they regain that form safety will not be far from their reach.

Coventry still have a slim chance of catching the play off's but need to show some championship form in order to achieve that. They drew with West Ham on Saturday to climb to 10th but their season is still alive.

stat attack - 13 goals have been scored in just three previous meeting between the two teams

steve025 predicts - Leicester City 2 vs 2 Coventry City

West Ham United vs Burnley

West Ham will be looking to keep alive their own play off hopes whilst putting a huge dent in their opponents. The Hammers drew last time out to slip down the table but with things tight at the top it's still very much all to play for.

Burnley hang on to 6th by the skin of their teeth but defeat here could see them slip out. They were beaten last time around by Bury to make it three defeats in their last six games.

stat attack - West Ham's 7 home defeats is the most in the current top 10

steve025 predicts - West Ham United 2 vs 2 Burnley

Bury vs West Bromwich Albion

Bury's recent form has been outstanding of late and they now look like a side who could finish in the top 10. They stunned Burnley at the weekend by winning 1-0 and ill be looking to cause another upset here.

The Baggies will still have eyes on 2nd place but their recent inconsistent form could put pay to that. They beat Derby at home 5-0 on Saturday so confidence shouldn't be an issue.

stat attack - West Brom have conceded 26 goals away from home the most in the top 10.

steve025 predicts - Bury 2 vs 2 West Bromwich Albion

Derby County vs Reading

The writing looks to be on the wall for Derby after their heavy defeat at the weekend. They sit bottom of the table and another loss against fellow struggler's Reading will all but see them condemned.

Reading know a win in this one is a must to give themselves a chance of climbing out of the relegation zone but having lost their last three finding confidence must be a big ask for both sides.

stat attack - Derby hold the upper hand having won two of the three previous fixtures between the sides.

steve025 predicts - Derby County 2 vs 1 Reading

Cardiff City vs Blackpool

Cardiff's season could still go either with them currently sat in 12th position in the league but inconsistencies may see them stay were they are. They were beaten away at Plymouth last time out but the chance to climb above their opponents is the price.

Blackpool like Cardiff could still go either way in terms of league standings. They beat Reading Narrowly last time out to record only their second win in six games and they will be looking to build on that whilst pulling away from the Bluebirds.

stat attack - a staggering 21 goals have been shared between the two sides in five previous meetings

steve025 predicts - Cardiff City 1 vs 2 Blackpool
