A recent archaeological dig on a remote island of the western coast of England revealed a great find. Two old tablets were found buried, they contain the story of a legendary warrior who achieved world domination where others failed. After a lot of hard work, University of Crewe language specialist Dr Iluva Swinger completed translating the ancient text and the result’s where today unveiled to the expectant public:

stonetablets.jpg

In the year of Our Lord nineteen hundred and seventy seven a child was born unto the world in the land of England. This child was born after his mother and father spent 15 minutes wildly calling to God some nine months prior. This child grew up to be a great man who, along with his Crewe, fought adversaries including ‘The Beast of Many Names’* and ‘The Boy of Many Conquests’** on his way to taking his homeland to conquer the world.

*sometimes referred to as ‘The Beast of Many Genders’

** sometimes referred to as ‘The Ginger One Who Couldn’t Control His Libido’

But a new battle was erupting back home, the mighty England was fractured with more factions than could be responsibly controlled, so with the help of Luscious Lord Lenny, the great warrior set about restructuring the country. Dividing it into 64 parts, each controlled by one of his finest men, the great warrior started a new era in football management.

That man was Sir Sean, and the brave new world is

General discussion thread

adheader01n.png

EC Anno Domini - Job vacancies

When we first set about creating our set up we spent a lot of time trying to figure out how the best format(English, British, European etc), best teams and how many, then any special rules, picking not only the best forumers, but also the best managers. Obviously we weren't 100% with are choices given the quitters so far, but we tried our best.

annodomino.jpg

When a job becomes available the first thing we do is make it available to managers already in the set-up for a period of time. Which I'm sure if a United, liverpool or Arsenal come up there will be interest. And at the end of that time we pick one of the applicants at random. If no-one applies then the job goes to someone on our waiting list. If we have appointed internally then me and Lenny will make a decision as the wether the newly vacated club is worthy of being put up internally(in which case the usual rules apply) or if we just go to the shortlist.

Now when it comes to the shortlist that is where we are still busy. All members on the shortlist are monitored constantly to make sure they are not likely to bring discord into AD. This means that if we see posts around the forum that are argumentative(we know the difference between argumentative & banter), abusive, littered with innapropriate language etc the person will be suspended or removed from the waiting list.

If you want adding to the shortlist then please PM or VM either myself or Lenny

EC Anno Domini has potential over time to become one of the top setups in the game. It's very early days at the moment, so please give it time if you are thinking about your future in the set-up.

New Man At Goodison Park

Barry MUFC has been appointed as the new Everton manager this afternoon. The Irishman has taken over from David Moyes after falling out with the owners. The new boss hopes to bring some silverware back to Goodison.

"Firstly, I am delighted to have been given such a superb opportunity, as this one, in such a magnificent league, with brilliant managers. I hope and believe that we can win silverware in the year/years to come. I would like to bring a few new faces, but the squad is strong as it is. The challenge at this club excites me and I can't wait to get started."

Since the appointment, Everton have been linked to such big names as Gareth Bale, Thiago Silva, Angel Di Maria and Luis Suarez. The new manager refused to comment on the links saying that he "couldn't say" whether they were true or not. More news to come in the coming days.

Wenger leaves Arsenal

Arsene-Wenger-fans-415x275.jpg

Wenger waving goodbye to fans

Arsene Wenger has left Arsenal after his contract expired last week. The Frenchman has been considering a new contract for few months but he has confirmed that he will leave the Gunner post before the season starts. It is reported that Dean Bryant is in the pole position for the hot seat in North London club.

Wenger had been under pressure to deliver a winning team for a silverware but speculation intensified after Arsenal failed to win a trophy last season. Arsenal have not won any trophy since their triumph in the FA Cup in 2005. Former Gunners' midfielder, Emmanuel Petit, believes Wenger has done fantastic job in his 14 years with Arsenal and think a new younger manager is needed to revived their hope for a silverware.

Petit said: "Arsenal did not win any trophy last season and I believe he (Wenger) wants to leave and move on to greener pastures. This would be an interesting new chapter in Gunners' history. I think a new fresh manager is needed to push Arsenal forward."

Wenger could be tempted to return to AS Monaco FC, who are looking for a replacement with current boss Laurent Banide due to step down over their poor form.

Re: EC Anno Domini - Transfer/Match Report Thread, Predictions etc

LATICS APPOINT RICHARDSON

Wigan Athletic last night parted company with Roberto Martinez after talks with Chairman Dave Whelan. It was announced that the two parties 'mutually agreed' that it was time for a new manager to come in with fresh ideas.

That man was Darren Richardson who was given a three year contract this morning after leaving his boyhood heroes Heart of Midlothian after deciding the club was in good hands under Jim Jeffries. Richardson has a great record with some lower league sides, he is known for wheeling and dealing to bring top players to the clubs he manages and takes a no nonsense approach to his side. An interesting point is that Richardson always ensure his clubs long term survival by continually ensuring a good cash flow through the club. This is something Dave Whelan clearly felt was required from a new manager.

Wigan Athletic Football Club are delighted to announce that Darren Richardson will take care of first team affairs with immediate effect. We wish Roberto all the best for the future but Darren was someone we just had to get when we heard of his interest and availability. A proven record of taking sides and creating strong starting elevens whilst keeping the finances in order and bringing glory to teams is something we are very excited about.

0,,10289~4811824,00.jpg

Richardson is known as a ladies man but long term partner Miss Robinson has kept his mind on football matters (most of the time)

It's obviously a pleasure to take charge of a well known and respected club in England. Hearts were kind enough to let me come here and speak with the chairman and see what he had to say. JJ will do a stand up job at Hearts so I was comfortable my club would not go down the pan if I left and that was important. I feel there is some quality players here at Wigan with N'Zogbia and others so I am looking forward to working with the squad as soon as possible. We will have a look at what we have and see where improvements can be made. I won't go headfirst into the transfer market but we will do deals if we feel it is financially viable and worthwhile for footballing reasons. One thing we will not fall into the trap of is getting into bidding wars with clubs as we don't want to overpay for any player. We have a large list of players who interest us but we will see what deals we can do.

One player rumoured to be considering a move out of Wigan is Charles N'Zogbia who Richardson would prefer to hang onto but would allow him to leave for the right price to help fund his own transfer plans. It is thought offers in the region of 12m would tempt the Scot into a sale otherwise he will remain at Wigan.

West Brom Appoint Robinson

Ahead of the hotly anticipated creation of "Anno Domini", West Bromwich Albion and Swansea City have agreed a deal for Robinson to join the Midlands club.

The deal for Robinson's arrival means Jerome Thomas and Joe Mattock will be heading to Wales. However Robinson has kept his prized asset in Graham Dorrans, a player who he feels will be key to the future of the Baggies.

250px-Graham_Dorrans11.jpg

Key Man: Graham Dorrans

Another has been agreed, and Simon Cox will be moving to Swindon for chairman value upon creation. As for future deals Robinson has remained tight lipped, but expressed his desire to help out his fellow managers in lower divisions.

Well I am very pleased to have been able to agree a swap with SJ and Swansea. To take over West Brom will be a great challenge and one I am very much looking forward to. There are many many great managers here and I am very priviledged to be amongst them in this set up. My main aim will be to push for promotion, and to make West Brom a great side, and in doing that I am pleased to be able to keep Graham here as the lad has a great future. As for future targets well you will have to wait and see

Trotters announce Burrow as new manager

Bolton Wanderers have moved swiftly to replace fan's favourite Owen Coyle by hiring former Preston boss James Burrow on a five year deal.

Bolton_wanderers.jpg

In a controversial move, Bolton chairman Phil Gartside has opted for a self-confessed Preston fan, and with some fans still considering Preston to be a local rival, Burrow's relationship with the fans looks likely to be a hot/cold one from the off.

Here was what a visibly delighted Burrow had to say about his appointment:

"I am so grateful to Phil that he has given me the opportunity to work for this great club. It will be a challenge, I admit, but I do love challenges! I may come from Preston but that wont get in the way of my duties, my mind is 100% on Bolton Wanderers."

Burrow hinted on a few new faces, but was reluctant in naming them:

"Me and Phil spoke about what money is available, and we should have a sizeable kitty in which to spend. Im not one for making wholesale changes, I would rather spend my millions across a number of players, rather than spend it all on one big name superstar. One great bit of news is that we have managed to secure the season-long loan of Carlos Vela from Arsenal. My thanks go to Dean Bryant, who was very swift in agreeing to a deal. We may look into the Championship for some depth, as in defence we are short of options. Everyone in the squad will be given a clean slate in which to prove to me they want to remain here. From the brief look at the squad in training, I am mightily impressed with young Rodrigo, and one of my first duties will be to try and thrash out a permanent deal."

carlosvela.jpg

Finally, in an emotional statement, the new boss spoke of the recent death of club legend Nat Lofthouse OBE, who made over 450 appearances for Bolton in a career spanning over 14 years:

"It is a great shame that the beginning of hopefully a great reign at Bolton marks the end of an era with the death of Nat Lofthouse. He was a humble servant of the club, first as a player, then as part of the staff from 1961 until his death. We plan to mark his illutrious career at our first home game."

Arsenal new manager Bryant pays tribute to Wenger

Facelessmanager.jpg

Dean Bryant has paid tribute to former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and expressed his delight on his new post at the Emirates Stadium hotseat. Wenger was replaced by Bryant on Saturday morning, having won the last silverware back in 2005 during his 15 years tenure. The Frenchman's decision to reject the extension contract and end his career with the Gunners came to a surprise among the Gunners' fans. Wenger has also claimed that he wants to have a break from management role and has hinted he may return to France for a new job.

Bryant, who had managed Charlton Athletic and Singapore national team, flew to North London on Saturday afternoon from Singapore to seal a 4-years contract ahead of the new season, and he will take immediate control of the first team.

signing-contract.gif

Bryant signing the contract

"It is a great honour to be asked to take this role," Bryant told The Soccer Manager Times. "I was surprised that Wenger didn't extend his contract. He is a great man with great philosophy with Arsenal. His name will forever be remembered in the Gunners' history and I am sad that he had to leave now. They have not won any silverware in the past six years and I understand the fans' fustration. I'm very impressed with them though as they still backing Wenger even after another trophyless season. Wenger deserved the backing, but sadly his years with Arsenal has gone and I would like to continue what he did in the past.

"His philosophy in the club will never change and I would proudly continue that tradition. We will be looking for young talents and those who have the winning mentality will be joining us. We are continuing working with our scouts and we will be announcing some good news soon."

In the transfer news, Arsenal striker Carlos Vela is expected to join Bolton Wanderers on a season-long loan. The 21-years-old has given the permission to join another club in seek of more regular football. Meanwhile, England midfielder Jack Wilshere is expecting to join Division Three side Southampton on a season-long loan as part of their club-to-club partnership. Arsenal will be sending a few other youth players as part of their partnership deal.

This message goes to everyone who is in Div 2, Leicester City will be crowned champions. I wonder who finishes 2nd?

Bolton dismiss transfer speculation

Bolton Wanderers manager James Burrow has poured water over the latest bout of transfer rumours and speculation, after the Lancashire club was linked with moves for a number of players.

Bolton's recent affiliation with Preston (as revealed by bwfc.net) has fuelled speculation that Bolton look set to sign both Irish defender Sean St Ledger and youngster Adam Barton for a combined fee of £6m, as reported by the Daily Star. Other publications have linked the Trotters with players such as Middlesbrough's David Wheater, Burnley's Andre Bikey, Liverpool's Daniel Ayala and Wolves David Jones. However Burrow has distanced himself from these rumours, stating that no transfer dealings have been concluded bar Vela's signing:

"All of this transfer speculation is total rubbish! Both myself and the chairman have yet to fully agree on a transfer budget, and then, and only then, will we discuss possible signings. Our partnership with Preston works both ways, Preston are not Bolton Mk II."

sean-st-ledger-pic-action-images-971621426.jpg

Loan signing Carlos Vela met his new Bolton team-mates for the first time, and midfielder Stuart Holden was very impressed by the young Mexican:

"Carlos is a very gifted player indeed. I think he brings something different to the side, and Im sure he'll have a great spell at the Reebok. He's not the same type of player as young Chicharito (Man Utd's Javier Hernandez) but Im sure he will have the same impact."

In other news, Bolton have announced their new secondary sponsor, online Poker and Bookmakers Victor Chandler. With the company advertised by Bolton-born comedian Paddy McGuinness, the club felt it best to affiliate themselves with them, with the companies name appearing on the pitchside boards.

Reading appoint a mysterious man

Following Brian McDermott's shock disappearance last week It was revealed last night that Reading FC have appointed a mysterious hooded man who is against giving away his identity as the clubs new manager.

Speaking to the local press the man had to say:

It's a tragedy that the old leader is gone, but I can assure you I am the perfect man to lead this elite group of men to success, for this is the team blessed by the former king of our land. I have the utmost respect for this organisation as they are since known as the Royals, and I will make sure we gain respect from all across the land. I have heard that a lot of small teams will look to ally with the stronger teams asking for their inexperienced men, but If you ask me, the real leaders do not need to look for help from elsewhere, they shall train their own young men.

The Mysterious man, comes accross as a confident man with a big vision for the team in future but some may say a little strange too.

341_front_small.pngSir Alex Ferguson's successor finally found340_front_small.png

In the early days of this new year the search for the successor of the emblematic and legendary manager of Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson, has been at last found. The Glazers have appointed Navin as their new manager, and the latter can be seen below being presented to the press and most importantly the fans.

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRR5t3ufjk0ho6KSMRFZXad_5kU8946ECBKJcLifqG6Sgxb11Qj

"I do understand how big of a responsibility and demanding is this job, and I'm thankful to the owners, Sir Alex, and most importantly the fans for their warm welcome and I promise to the fans that I, with the help of the players, will continue the long running tradition of this club; that of winning", said the new man at the helm of MUFC for his public announcement.

The manager is said to be meeting up with his squad tomorrow morning, despite knowing some of them personally and rumours are circulating that Vidic is set to remain as the club captain. However, the club's staff is set to be re-shuffled in the next few days as the new man in charge looks to fully stamp his arrival at the club.

United confirm agreement with Leicester

The first official decision of Navin was to confirm that an agreement has been reached with Leicester City's management on them becoming a feeder club to Manchester United. The deal is about MUFC's youth players going on loan to gain some invaluable first team action and also United will be having first refusal on Leicester's players. A press release is set to be scheduled ahead of the season's start.

The Saints march 3 in

Southampton today confirmed not only their first 3 signings, but also the first 3 signings in the history EC Anno Domini.

aaronramseyshaunbotteri.jpg

20 year old Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey arrived for a fee of £5.2m. One of the most highly talented Wales has produced in a long time, Ramsey has signed an initial 2 year deal at the club.

Dutch defender Patrick Van Aanholt arrives from Chelsea for £1.4mil. The 20 year old can play at either left back or centre back and was highly rated by the previous Chelsea management, prior to them being replaced by Stewie.

9cc9d9eda0e34aeaa915bb9.jpg

Liverpool FC record breaker Jack Robinson also arrived in a £450k deal. The 17 year old Englishman became the youngest-ever player in the Reds' history to turn out for the first team when he appeared as a second-half substitute at Hull City aged just 16 years and 250 days.

He has signed a 4 year deal at Southampton, and despite the relatively small fee Sir Sean rates him as the most important of his transfers so far.

Also arriving at the club on loan are young Liverpool defender Daniel Ayala and Arsenal's Jack Wilshire. Both highly talented youngsters have been sent out by their parent clubs with a view to gaining first team experience, however Saints boss Sean is hopeful of being able to strike up permanent deals for the pair at the end of the season.

It's all smiles as Coll is welcomed to the club by chairman Michael Slater

In a shock move, Charlton Athletic have parted ways with manager Chris Powell, only a week after he was put in charge. The club have declined to comment on the matter but it is believed that a bust up between Powell and a senior player at the club have caused Charlton to take such drastic action.

The club have been quick in appointing his successor, today naming the young Scottish manager, Patrick Coll, as the club's new manager on a 3 year deal. The new man in charge already has a wealth of experience in the lower regions of English football, managing sides such as Sheffield Wednesday, Hartlepool United and, most recently, Southport.

The turn of events at Charlton has caused a lot of shock and anger among the Charlton faithful but also a show of support for their new manager who they hope will guide them them to, at least, Div 3 survival in the season ahead.

Charlton Confirm Host Of New Signings

GetImage.aspx?imgId=83432&fmtId=20

Croatian starlet Ante Vukusic is one of 15 new players set to join Charlton

New Charlton boss, Patrick Coll, has wasted no time in putting his mark on the squad after the club confirmed earlier today that 15 new players will be joining the club within the next 24 hours with more expected in the coming days.

This dramatic influx of players has been greeted with worry by fans who believe that the club needs stability after a rocky few years at The Valley. Added to that, with a large proportion of the signings coming from South America, questions have been rasied at how easily these new faces will adapt to the English game.

However, the new manager has pushed aside any concerns regarding his transfer policy and told reporters earlier today;

I know a lot of fans will be worried at the number of players both joining and leaving the club so soon after I have arrived but I believe that, in today's market, you have to be constantly buying and selling if you want to challenge in both the league and the cup. Rest assured, these new players will greatly benefit the club within the coming seasons.

Manchester City News

With a new boss comes a different style of transfer management. When Singaporean gaffer Yap Wei Heng was appointed as the manager of Manchester City, many fans were already calling for his head after he put nearly his whole team on the transfer list, calling all of them mercenaries.

Yap even launched an audacious bid for Ballon D'Or Winner Lionel Messi of Barcelona, a bid which included 2 of his best players in Tevez and Silva leaving England for sunny Spain. Facing competition from Arsenal and (initially) Chelsea, and without the blank cheque that the Arab owners promised, there was to be no other bid for him. And the mercurial Argentine International duly arrived in Manchester for a medical, and was unveiled to be a Blue soon after.

New city recruit Lionel Messi in his old colours

Following Messi was his fellow World Cup companion, a highly rated youngster known as Javier Pastore, who turned down rivals Manchester United's advances around 2 years ago. However, following his stunning performances at Huracan and Palermo, there was to be no way that he will remain in Sicily, and once City made their interest known, there was to be no other outcome, as Pastore had heard about Yap's achievements worldwide and was "adamant to be wanting to work under the Asian".

Pastore, new city signing

Also plucked up from nowhere is 18 year old Joao Reis, who has alerted scouts from Inter following his performances in the Portuguese Third Division, Daniel Wass, who was about to move to Benfica from Denmark and 20 year old Right back Miljkovic from Serbian leaders FK Partizan. Soon to be joining is Eduardo Sasha from Internacional, and Marcelo Canete from giants Boca Juniors.

Bolton to unveil new signings against Wolves

Bolton Wanderers are set to give debuts to all five of their new signings in tonight's pre-season friendly tie with Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Reebok.

New manager James Burrow has wasted no time in putting his own stamp on the squad, with nearly £20m of new players brought in over the past few days. Ironically last to sign was Burrow's number one target, David Wheater, who joined yesterday for a club record fee of £8m. Former 'Wolf' David Jones was one of the first through the door at Bolton, with a fee believed to be around £6m agreed with tonight's opponents. Bolton continued their lower league acquisitons with the £4m signing of Robert Snodgrass from Division Two side Leeds United. Wanderers then used their parent club relationship with Preston to full effect, securing the signing of 20 year old Adam Barton for £500k despite interest from Southampton. Bolton's final signing was the permanent transfer of 19 year old Rodrigo Moreno. Ahead of tonight's game, this was what the manager had to say:

"These five new signings will likely be our only transfer business this season. £20m spent in just a short space of time is quite a lot when you're Bolton. They will most likely all get a run out tonight. Wolves have been very kind in allowing Dave Jones to play, he will probably start tonight. As for Barton, Rodrigo and Snodgrass, I might save them for later in the game."

Sheffield Utd 99% complete an overhaul of the first team - the highlights being the arrivals of Marek Hamsik, Maarten Stekelenberg and Sebastien Giovinco.

Other arrivals include Patrick Helmes, Dennis Aogo, Sylvain Marveaux, Sulley Muntari, Dejan Lovren and Lukman Haruna.

Unfortunately, we now have less depth than Paris Hilton.
