Re: Official 2011 Formula 1 Thread

Whats your predictions for this weekend?

Mine:

1st - Webber

2nd - Alonso

3rd - Vettel

Webber looked quick In the opening practises , the mclarens also looked good so I think it may be a tough weekend for Ferrari and Vettle unless ey have improved by qualifying tommorow.

It doesn't look as if the Ferrari's have found anymore speed in the two weeks since Australia so i think it will be the Red Bulls and McLarens at the front of he pack, I'm going for:

1. Vettel

2. Webber

3. Hamilton

Re: Official 2011 Formula 1 Thread

What a lap from Vettle , shame for Hamilton as I felt he had it but Webber let me down after his great results in practise.

Don't understand why Di Resta has to give away his car for the first practise of each week , surely it would be easier for him to qualify higher if he was more familiar with the car round that track and instead they go and give the test driver and hour out there.

I would imagine its in the test drivers contract or something. But if it is why not use Sutil's car.

Di Resta normally got 1st practice last year I think.

Re: Official 2011 Formula 1 Thread

Vettel is such a Qualifying specialist. If he could turn more of these pole positions into victories he'd be unbeatable.

Fair play to him, really thought Hamilton was going to get it after his two laps in Q3. Not much more he could've done really. Red Bull still have the edge.

Re: Official 2011 Formula 1 Thread

Didn't watch qualifying as I'm not in the country this weekend but I can see the race being a procession like Melbourne unless there's a rain shower to mix things up. Shame I can't watch the race either but during practise 2 (which I did watch) Red Bull looked very quick, as did Mclaren.

Re: Official 2011 Formula 1 Thread

What a fantastic qualifying session today, i had forgotten what a great circuit Sepang is - it should make for a great race tomorrow.

Vettel's final lap was brilliant, i was gutted for Hamilton as i thought he had done enough to get pole. The Ferrari's were woeful and continue their disappointing start to the season. I was also really surprised by Lotus Racing today, thought they did a sterling job and were unlucky not to creep into Q2, i think they could have a decent race tomorrow as it seems they are closing the gap between them and Force India, Toro Rosso etc.

Re: Official 2011 Formula 1 Thread

I hate Alonso' date=' I highly doubt Hamilton would have got 2nd but he looked god for a podium.

I really can't wait untill someone can match red Bull, It's becoming very boring with constantly the same driver winning.[/quote']

Yes i agree, i really hope Vettel doesn't turn into a Schumacher because at the moment he's unbeatable and it gets very boring when the same driver wins constantly - I wouldn't mind if he was likeable!!

Some really good action in the middle of the pack today, thought Heidfeld drove brilliantly and Renault look like they've built a very good car. Mercedes are looking incredibly poor after all the hype about them 'winning races' pre-season, Rosberg 12th

Re: Official 2011 Formula 1 Thread

Pretty disappointed with Ferrari, poor performance. Hope someone matches Vettel because I hate him, even if Mark Webber wins every race. Hate McLaren (no particular reason apart from they used to be Ferrari's biggest rivals and because they have Hamilton and Button.) Hope Ferrari come on stronger and if I remember correctly they had a poor Australian and Malaysian GP last season and they almost won the title so heres hoping they go one better.:D:D

Vettel on pole again  - man i hate that guy!!

Looks like it will be another easy win for Vettel, no-one can touch him at the moment. What happened to Webber - eliminated in first quali!!

I'm praying for rain tomorrow to mix things up a bit. B)

Re: Official 2011 Formula 1 Thread

Great job by Vettel for putting the car on pole again. Not really sure what Webber was doing by not going out in the middle part of Q1 but it cost him quite dearly. Button also did really well as did the Torro Rosso's, although it was mighty brave of them not to go out in the last couple of minutes of Q2.

Not really too sure whether it's sarcastic or not but I don't really get the whole Vettel-bashing thing when he takes pole. Would there be the same reaction if it was Hamilton or Button? Probably not.

btw Hamilton just posted on Twitter the view from his hotel room, and what a view!

Oh and Jozua it's sunny today so rain will be at a low premium I'm afraid.

Im just not a fan of Vettel's he comes across as really arrogant and it annoys the hell out of me - of course i wouldn't moan if Hamilton or Button were on pole as they are British drivers and i always back my fellow countryman which i think is understandable. Plus i don't like someone dominating as it starts to get too predictable, so i prefer it if pole position is more hotly contested.

Today's race was fantastic, there was so much action i didn't know where to look!! Pirelli have done a great job in creating these tyres as they really encourage tactical racing which makes for a more exciting race. Thought Webber was awesome today, to get on the podium when he started 18th on the grid was nothing short of genius.

Great win for Hamilton, i'm hoping McLaren can kick on now and start to take the fight to Red Bull. Can't wait for Istanbul in 3 weeks time!! :D

Webber's awesome!! The only man who can beat it is Kimi Raikkonen in Japan 2005. Started from 17th and won the race. Missed him in F1 :(

And Barrichello in 2000 (I think), when he won from 18th in the rain, after staying out on dry tires!:D

Fair dos about Vettel, at least it doesn't reek of bias like most people on 606 (which I don't post on but read after an article on BBC Sport)

But what a super race though. Hamilton was going really slowly initially when Button made that mistake so they probably should have pitted him first but the overtakes he had to make to get to Vettel were very good and when he reached Vettel the German was easy meat on those tyres. Button didn't have a particularly good race after going to the wrong pit garage and then Almost taking Webber out after he got passed for 3rd place. Credit where credit's due though, Hamilton drove a super race as did Webber. Bring on Turkey!

Re: Official 2011 Formula 1 Thread

Some interesting things in the news this week, I think the most interesting one being people talking about whether the Concorde agreement will be renewed and whether F1 will go PPV. Persnally I'd stop watching F1 if it went to PPV because it's silly really when the coverage won't be nearly as good as the BBC's but if the teams decide it will generate them more revenue then you never know what they will decide.

Also Kubica is coming out of hospital soon which is great news for him. Perhaps not so great news for him is Heidfeld and Petrov are doing pretty well for Renault :P. But all the best to him.

I've also read there may not be a Turkish GP next year which is a shame as it's a decent circuit especially that turn 8.

I would stop watching F1 if it went PPV and I think many people would.

Good news about Kubica but I doubt he'll be fit enough to race again this season.

If Formula 1 goes to PPV then i will stop watching it, there are too many sports that aren't 'free' to watch and it would be a shame if F1 goes the same way.

Thats good news about Kubica, hope he recovers in time for next season as i think him and Petrov could be a formidable force!!

I would be really disappointed if there was no Turkish GP next year, it is one of my favourite circuits as the long, sweeping straights provide great action and plenty of overtaking opportunities. They should get rid of one of the more boring circuits like Hungary or Abu Dhabi - although the latter will never get removed for obvious reasons

Re: Official 2011 Formula 1 Thread

I would be astounded if F1 become PPv, Bernie would lose so much money. He'd lose sponsor's as not as many people would be watching it.

If it did become PPV i dont think i could say that i wouldnt watch it again, I love F1 so would probably end up paying.

I would probably just watch it on the Internet like I do with sky football , if it goes ppv they certainty won't be getting my money !
