Re: English Championship 7777 - Discussion Thread

By some miscommunication and differences in times being online' date=' we were not able to give the Arsenal offer to TheMarAFC, we must also applaud Steve G's decision to reject the job offer. Anyway, since he's not a forumer it's obviously harder for him to communicate with us forumers, and PMs aren't always read in time. So the offer went to Steve and was gone in 5 days.

He is a forumer :D

Re: English Championship 7777 - Discussion Thread

Okay' date=' here is my honest humble opinions on the whole Arsenal issue.

..........................

Finally, I'm neutral on this issue, and I must point out I suspect Pip/Kevin cheating in another forum based GW, WC33333. One accusation may prove false but two? Three? From a variety of GWs? Others have also expressed concerns over his honesty and fair play and I would be the first to kick his *insert word of choice* out of this GW if anything of a similar nature happened here.[/quote']

Your views are respected Hyina, but you yourself are relatively new to this EC. Its been respected forumers from the outset that have kept this setup going - a 5 tier EC being kept almost full for a couple of years now - based on being trustworthy, co-operating and looking out for the good of the setup.

now to see this situation occur is very frustrating as people who have been here for a long time and have done well do deserve the best jobs if they choose. It was discussed and decided in a 'professional' way between the ex manager, the manager with the offer and a 3rd party, Smut, who has done alot for 7777 too. Now i think its best of the setup if the big clubs are managed by established managers, not just handed out to anyone as it could have catastrophic consequences - what if the team got stripped down and poorly handled? would be very disappointing. If new managers want to come in i feel they should take jobs lower down and get accustomed to the setup first. A full Forum EC is very challenging and very few would have the 'expertise' to be successful in it.

Yes, he took the job to save it from going elsewhere, but should have let the situation be resolved and allowed the selected candidate the role.

I do agree the backlash has gone on to long now, its getting a bit out of hand and immature.

As for deleted posts? i cant see any. Kev isnt a Mod. Lets get this right. Orange is a translator with mod privileges in chosen language forums.

Blue/Reds would be able to delete posts with this thread, and i cannot see any deleted post tags...

Re: English Championship 7777 - Discussion Thread

I fully respect that what you have posted is your opinion Hyina but i'm concerned that its either based on snippets of the sorry tale or youve been at the wine, either way i'm actually pretty offended at some of your expressions of understanding.

To suggest that there has been some form of bullying in the lead up to the shambles undermines the individuals involved - i can honestly say that neither myself nor Smut, as far as i am aware, have a history of such nonsense (although i admit i have an individual that is the exception to that from many moons ago in )5579.

Rather than address all of your missive, allow me to highlight just some of your misunderstandings.

1. steve g

He was contacted only by Smut when he got the offer. The very first question was - are you going to accept the Arsenal offer? When he said no, then the situation was explained. He then also contacted me to ask my opinion on two points - whom the new guy should be and if they would likely assist him with a loan. He may well have received other direct approaches for the job but he wasnt bombarded with pm's by myself or smut trying to bully or pressure - not our bag baby.

2. Kevin/pip

Kevin/pip applied as part if the process and as such was fully aware of what we were trying to do. Rick too was fully aware as was every 7777 forummer as smut had kept the thread up to date.

When Pip realised he wasnt going to get the job via the route agreed (seeing as he applied via that route surely that indicates his acceptance of it) he tapped Rick up and persuaded him.

Look, you are essentially right - any manager can do anything permissable within the GW, of course.

However, for me and many like me the best GW's have a wider and better sense of community - and it is that community that seperates the wheat from the chaff. To suggest that the good of the GW overall is less important than an individuals own personal gain is the definition of 95% of the GW's out there and its why many prefer places like 7777.

Aside from that, to then deride -mistakenly, humbly, honestly or any other way - those that are trying to work for the benefit of that GW as bullies, oligarths or dictators is so wrong as to be insulting - not your intent i know but its how its the taste it has left me with.

A full Forum EC is very challenging and very few would have the 'expertise' to be successful in it.[/quote']

Does that mean nobody internal, who have been here for a long time, wanted the West Ham offer before I took it? Surely not?

As for keeping the GW as close to full as possible. There is no way we will be able to fill all the clubs in 7777 with forumers and I'd say probably half the managers right now are non-forumers? If everytime a big club becomes available and you appoint an internal manager, then you're going to run out of forumers eventually. The trick here of keeping a GW alive and interesting is the same as building a good squad, you need to have experience, yes (aka the long serving managers), but you need to have a fair number of youths too (aka new managers, forumer or not). Or the GW will die in after one generation (in terms of managers, not age).

Now if everytime a big clubs is free and a forumer who manages a smaller club leaves theirs to take that big club's offer, what happens to the smaller club? Very few non forumers would be interested in taking over a Northampton/Aldershot kind of club (no offense intended to either managers :D) in a old GW that has been going on for quite a lot of seasons now. Moreover, even some forumers who are aware of how classy and legendary a GW is, won't be appealed by managing a tiny club at the bottom of Div 5, with barely any cash and you know all the good risers have already gone. I myself took over Northampton in 106 relatively recently and I'm losing interest in that GW fast because it's difficult maintaining a positive bank balance and making your your squad is not filled with just grandfathers! :P Anyway, my point, in this rather roundabout confusing paragraph is that it's much harder attracting managers to smaller clubs, and from what you say, by the time we are in season 20 or something similar, would all the top 40 teams be forumers and the lesser clubs be close to empty as non foumers aren't likely to want to join - leading to chances of cheating increasing as more spots come available? This may seem like a slippery slope but it could happen, if we appoint an internal manager every time a good club comes up.

Finally, just to brighten the mood up a little bit, I find that you have to give the youths (aka managers who are just new to the forum) a chance - when I first created my Custom, a lot of people who expressed an interest were at that time brand new forumers that just joined. Although there is always a possibility they may be secondary accounts and someone is cheating, however I gave the new forumers a chance and since then they've been the ones that kept the GW as well as the GW forum alive and interesting and being the most active. Now they are considered great forumers and often I see them being invited to join new GWs, however, if I turned them down when they asked to join as a newbie, would it not be too impossible for them to lose hope/interest in the forum entirely and never make an effort thereafter?

So I do believe you gotta give new players a chance, and they shouldn't always be wearing second hand clothes that nobody wants (an analogy, not sure if people will follow :o).

now this, to completely erase a post - ive never seen before.

Ok, lets not talk about it anymore on here please. Higher powers that be will have to look into it.

Re: English Championship 7777 - Discussion Thread

Managers Manager of the season?

With the season now over' date=' it is time to vote for your manager of the season. If you want to participate, please send me a private message with your top 3 choices. You first choice will get 3 points, second choice 2 points, and third choice will get 1 point.

Please do not vote for yourself. You can vote for which ever manager you wish, preferably sensible votes and not the teams finishing bottom of the leagues :P Doesnt have to be based on league position either, managers who have done well with finances too should be noted. Also dont just look at the top divisions for your choices, have a look at all 5 divisions.

In a few days I will add up all the votes and unveil who is the managers manager of the season (If I get a decent amount of messages :)). If you want to add a little message as to why you think this manager should win, I can then post them at the end too.[/center']

Just a reminder (Will post this a few times, so hope it doesnt annoy anyone).

Thanks to all of the managers who have voted so far, ten at the moment :)
