Re: English Championship 7777 - Discussion Thread

After our defeat to FGR last match we picked ourselves up and dusted ourselves down for the Cardiff game and eased to a 2-0 win, Muller with a brace he is really loving that lone striker role, Captain Schmelzer added an assist before picking up a yellow that takes him over the limit so will now miss the next match.

14 games to go!

Blackpool 1-1 Everton

A decent point at Goodison Park, with some squad players coming into the team following Mondays shield match. As usual Carlos Tevez being the hero, he equalised after Edin Dzeko gave Everton a half-time lead.

Drop a place into 6th, two points off Champions Leage places. Huge game against second place Chelsea at the weekend.

Quite possibly the easier player of the round to pick. The England skipper was unplayerable against Sheffield Wednesday, scoring an incredible SEVEN times (The first time this has happend in Division one). He also picked up an assist in the 10-1 drubbing. Scored possibly the fastest hat-trick aswell in the Premier League, with his first three goals coming in the space of five minutes. The all time leading Premier League goal scoer (149 goals) is now just one off his record best which was set in Season 5. This is the second time this season Wazza has won the award after being crowned in Round 7.

Re: English Championship 7777 - Discussion Thread

The match ended 0 - 0 between Swindon Town and Tranmere Rovers in their Division 2 fixture.

We named an unchanged side from the team that defeated Hereford last weekend for the trip to Prenton Park.

The boys put in another resilient performance and I'm happy with an away point against a Tranmere side that proved very difficult to breakdown.

Unfortunately Jake Livermore & Igor Smolnikov picked up suspensions that will rule them out of Saturday's humdinger against in-form Newcastle so we will be forced to make a couple of changes for that.

Also I have the crunch international match against Austria to contend with on Friday so a busy time ahead.

Must go,,, plane to Moscow leaves in 20 minutes..

Anyone want any duty frees???

The match ended 1 - 1 between Queens Park Rangers and Bristol City in their Division 3 fixture.

Bacca scored the only goal for Queens Park Rangers and was later voted Man of the Match for his performance.

It's a disappoiting result for us, as we needed to win in order to keep getting closer to top 6. We actually had great ball possession, but we failed to create much in attack, so we have to take this draw and move on. Next we face Morecambe (5th) away, a very very important match!

On another note, a nice +1 for Rojo to 89 to improve our back!

Re: English Championship 7777 - Discussion Thread

Preparations for tonight's WC Qualifier against Austria are well underway after the 4 hour flight from Heathrow. I was up in business class next to the Ignashevich's and boy that woman can talk,,, never stopped for a minute and then when I excused myself for the bathroom she stole my complimentary canapes

Anyway, checked out the Luzhniki this morning,,, the pitch is still there but under a bit of snow. The SM Match Preview says the weather will be bright, sunny and +3c at 8pm tonight  so hopefully it will have all gone by then... :D

Michael Oliver is officiating the match, which is a big concern because we always seem to have poor results with English referees. Usually the Kremlin likes to have a say on the choice of referee but when the match officials were seen departing the country with a box of caviar, 3 crates of Vodka and 6 dancing girls after our last match they have since been banned from interfering.

I can't help but think that tonight is crunch time for Russia. We really need a win, a draw will be 'meh' and a loss would probably mean the end of any possibility that President Putin will be at Wembley at the end of the season sitting next to the Queen (assuming his visa application is approved).

Going for an experienced rather than an experimental team in view of the importance of the result and the starting 11 will be:

Akinfeev

Smolnikov - Berezutsky - Ignashevich - Schennikov

Dzagoev - Denisov© - Shirokov - Kombarov

Dzyuba - Kokorin

Russia beat Austria 3 - 1 in their SMFA World Cup Qualifiers Group 15 fixture

President Putin is already filling out his UK visa application as Russia ended up with a comfortable victory over Austria. However, it took a 73rd minute penalty from Swindon's Artem Dzyuba to finally crack a smile on the Premiers face as we made rather hard work of it.

We started off well with Kokorin smashing home after a great run from Dmitri Kombarov in the 12th minute...

Get in there.... Russian coach, Nicholas Fursse, celebrates Kokorin's opening strike...

After the half-time break however, Austria came out the stronger side & they soon equalised with a fantastic volley from Erwin Hoffer...

not happy after seeing Hoffer equalise for Austria

Relief finally came in the 73rd minute after Roman Shirokov was clumsily fouled in the box. The referee pointed to the spot & Artem Dzyuba coolly slotted home the penalty. Two minutes later Shirokov was again involved, sending Kombarov into space who made no mistake and put the result beyond any doubt.

The result puts Russia top of the Qualifying Group and means a point in our final match against Guinea should be enough to guarantee a spot in the finals in England.

As Putin said after the game,,, "it wouldn't be a World Cup without Russia"...

DO YOU WANT TO BUILD A SNOWMAN?

It would be nice! But not at Crewe's football ground!

News filtering in that Crewe's home game against Southampton is subject to a pitch inspection, with the over night and early morning snow, much of the pitch is covered in snow.

Crewe are getting groundstaff overload to try and get the game to go ahead, SM officials are doing an official pitch inspection at 3pm and 5pm to confirm if the game is to go ahead. Troubled times for the traveling 3,521 Saints supporters, Saints chairman is trying to talk into the SMFA starting the game a a slightly later time due to travel choas.

If the game goes ahead, expect little change from Southampton, also new signing Jason McCarthy will be in the stands, watching alongside Lloyd Isgrove who is also coming back from injury.

Blackpool 2-2 Chelsea

Blackpool came close to doing the double over Chelsea and denied in the final five minutes. We took the lead through Salomon Rondon seventh league goal of the season. Marco Reus equalised after the hour. It looked like we had the game won when Adriano found the back of the net in the 84th minute. However former Blackpool player Arjen Robben came back to haunt us with the second equaliser a minute later.

I changed my usual tactics and ended there four game win streak which is a nice positive :) We stay 6th and now three points off CL places.

Had two youngsters rise over the last few days. Luis Cagna 78 -> 82 and Ylli Sallahi 76 -> 79

Peterborough United 1 - 2 Sheffield United

Really pleased with this win. 11 games to go, and we have a six point cushion to 4th. With Arsenal having a mini stutter, 1st remains a possibility. A remote possibility, but a possibility nether the less.

Oh and another Gotze goal. B)

Despite only being 27 years old he iss one of the veterans in a very talented young West Ham side. The Spainyard had an amazing game against one of Division twos strongest sides in Aston Villa, and managed to score a hat-trick from right midfield in a 4-3 win. With only two goals prior to tonight its quite a surprise for the Hammers faithful. His first two goals were well placed headers, with the hat-trick goal being poweful strike into the top corner. Turns out to be a huge win and lifts West Ham out of the relegation zone!

The match ended 1 - 1 between Queens Park Rangers and Morecambe in their Division 3 fixture.

Bravo had an impressive game and was voted Man of the Match.

Bacca was on the scoresheet for his side.

We were very unlucky tonight... We were dominating the match, had one goal disallowed, but at 23' we suffered a big blow with Roberto Pereyra being sent-off... We had to play more than an hour with 10 men only. Morecambe balanced the match after the sent-off. We still played well and with a lot of heart and we did not deserved to concede a late goal (82') that stoped us to win. It would be a vital win for us to get closer to top 6... Shame. Anyway, still 15 matches to go, we're 7 points of top 6. Not an easy task, but there's still hope as our performances are being good.

The match ended 1 - 1 between Swindon Town and Newcastle United in their Division 2 fixture

A superb result for us against the high flying Magpies!! (and a big favour to title chasing Bolton too...)

What is more satisfying is that I had to put out a weakened side what with having 2 first team players suspended and 3 more (Defoe, Danny & Baba) struggling with fitness.

With Solomon Kverkvelia (83) and 18 year old Khodzhaniyazov (78) playing as wing backs I thought we might have struggled against the likes of Lennon & Ayew but they both did well in containing the forward surges of the Newcastle wingers.

Roman Eremenko scored his first goal for the club to give us a rather flattering lead & it took the Division's top scorer, Edison Cavani, to beat Matty Ryan with an impressive free-kick. Apart from that our young GK never put a foot wrong and fully deserved his MOTM award.

Marques Maicon picked up a minor injury but he has only been a rotation player for us this season so no real harm done there.

So,, masterminded a victory over Austria in the WC and held one of the strongest sides in Division 2 to a draw with an 86 rated team. Not a bad weekends work,, even if I say so myself :D:D:D

Re: English Championship 7777 - Discussion Thread

A little late as it happened a week ago: but Kevin Gameiro has left Everton to join Plymouth Argyle for 6 million + Siem De Jong. Happy to have some money come in to purchase a few more youngsters with and very excited to bring in Siem having previously worked with his brother at Carlisle United. I feel this should make for a good deal as they both have a similar style; able to play either upfront or behind the striker, and naturally fit into my system.
