Pre Season Friendly Ends In A Draw

0,,10273~7454643,00.jpg

Leeds United 1-1 Norwich City

City's only pre season fixture before the new season ended in a 1-1 draw against fellow promoted side Leeds at Elland Road. Both sides went into the game with a host of new faces on display, however for City it was the Canaries main man that provided their only goal in the game.

The game gave both managers a look at their new signings in action before the competitive games begin, and it proved to a very evenly contested battle. The Canaries began brightly and were unlucky not to take the lead after Dani Pacheco's fine effort came crashing back off of the bar. Leeds then took the lead through Polish international Jakub Blaszczykowski, after a good piece of individual play allowed him to fire past Rene Adler just inside the box.

It was then the hosts turn to be denied by the woodwork, as just before the half hour, Emre dived to meet a cross from Varela and he saw his effort come back off the post. And from the resulting break from Norwich, good build up play saw Andrew Crofts clean through, only for him to add his name to the list of woodwork hitters.

After the break it was the 'keepers that stole the show, as some spectacular saves were being made by Kasper Schmeichel and Rene Adler. With the game looking all but over, Wes Hoolahan beautifully picked out skipper Grant Holt who powered home a header meaning Norwich left Elland Road with a draw.

More New Faces at Carrow Road

3428203862.jpg

Norwich City were able to confirm via the clubs website that Omer Toprak completed his move from Freiburg without a hitch, and also a deal for Brazilian Aparecido Wellington was completed for a fee of £1.2million.

Also arriving will be highly thought of Colombain winger James Rodriguez from Porto in a deal which will see Leon Barnett and Jens Askou moving to Portugal. The talented winger will no doubt add quality to the side and will fit in perfectly with the way in which the Canaries play their football.

a_James1_300x300.jpg

Another deal has been accepted, and is for French midfielder Josuha Guilavogui. However Saint Etienne have also accepted an approach from Gillingham, and have left the decision up to the player of where he will be playing his football in the up coming season.

Anniversaire-Josuha-Guilavogui.jpg

City will begin their league campaing with Sheffield United coming to Carrow Road on Saturday, and manager Joe Robinson will hope to have completed all dealings by then.

Stevenage have used their link with Sunderland to bring very promising young midfielder Jack Colback to Broadhall Way on loan.

Following Stevenage's 7-0 thrashing from Plymouth, the manager will now be looking to bolster the defence too.

A Pre Session friendly took place today in Derbyshire where Chesterfield and Huddersfield went head to head. The match ended 4-4 in a cracking game.Even though Chesterfield got a very positive result from this match they were lucky, with Huddersfield dominating the game , having most of the ball and more attempts. This is what the Huddersfield manager had to say :

I am happy with the Performance , not the result , we deserved to win but we weren't strong enough at the back . We need to improve .

The First of Many?

1909920.jpg

AFC Wimbledon confirmed the signing of Leeds United winger Pablo Sarabia on a season-long loan deal this afternoon, which the club are hoping will be first of many talented youngsters arriving from Elland Road after their recent partnership.

Sarabia only just signed for Leeds yesterday from Spanish giants Real Madrid. However with appearances likely to be limited at Elland Road this season, Leeds United manager Aaron Duffy decided it was for the player's best interest to join feeder club AFC Wimbledon where he will pick up huge amounts of experience playing week in week out.

A product of the Real Madrid youth academy, Sarabia has been capped at every level for the Spanish national team and with his natural flair on the ball, he will undoubtedly give the Dons' attack a whole new dimension this season.

Manager Josh Horne's comments on the signing:

"I am thrilled that we've secured the loan signing of Pablo as he is an unbelievable talent who will give opposition defenders a real headache this season. He's quick, nimble and adventurous which are all qualities that you look for in a winger and he's got all three in abundance.

All i can say is that our feeder relationship with Leeds is far exceeding expectations, as we didn't think we'd be getting offered players of this calibre as Aaron had told me that he was focusing more on building a strong first team. When he rang me up this morning about taking Pablo on loan, i nearly fell off my chair with shock - its great news for the club and i hope the lad enjoys his time here"

AFC Wimbledon 1 - 1 Colchester United

Wednesday 25th May 2011

Friendly

Kingsmeadow

Attendance: 1,364

Wimbledon's pre-season drew to a positive conclusion tonight as they held League One side Colchester United to a 1-1 draw at Kingsmeadow. The fans saw a weakened team being fielded as the manager is looking to get everyone match sharp for Saturday's opener against Kettering Town. Many of the new signings were not fit for tonights game, however Marc Klopp at right back and Leeds loanee Pablo Sarabia made their debuts.

With manager Josh Horne opting for a defensive setup, Colchester enjoyed the lions share of possession but failed to take any of their chances until the 36th minute when debutant Houssine Kharja headed in a Ben-Hatira cross. The goal sprung the Dons into life as they searched for an equaliser and their pressure paid off when Pablo Sarabia's pinpoint cross was met by Sammy Moore at the back post to level the score at 1-1.

2459522342-18112010215641.jpg

Sammy Moore (l) and Danny Kedwell ®, celebrate after the Dons

level the match at 1-1

The second half proved to be a very dull affair as the Dons sat back and Colchester had little luck in finding a gap in the home team's defence. Chances were few and far between for both sides but the best of the lot fell to Colchester midfielder Kemal Izzet who could only blast wide of the goal after being teed up by Kharja.

The draw rounded off what has been a successful pre-season for the Dons, where a number of fringe players have had run-outs and the players look fully prepared for the season ahead.

Manager Josh Horne's reaction, post-match:

"A very positive result for us tonight, this was by far our weakest side and to earn a draw against a very good League 1 club is very encouraging. I was delighted with both our debutants performances tonight, Pablo had a terrific game for us and i think our presumptions about him were correct, as he gave their right-back a torrid time out there tonight.

We now are fully focused on preparing for Saturday's game away to Kettering, where we will be looking to kick off our season with the best possible start and bring home all three points."

Creditable Draw at Rochdale

Screenshot2011-05-25at225510.png?t=1306361119

It was a very dull game for the spectators, but Wrexham fans will still be happy with their team's performance. The Rochdale lineup was unchanged from their starting 11 last season, so the fact that Wrexham dominated possession show just how far this team has come.

It was Rochdale who did more with what possession they did have, taking more shots in total. Barnaby Dowling will now turn his attention to getting a decent striker in on loan as the deal to bring Arribas to the club looks all but sealed...

Courtois Joins Wrexham on Loan

201104231028-1_manchester-united-volgt-thibaut-courtois.jpg

Wrexham are delighted to announce their first loan signing to be Thibaut Courtois. Recently acquired by Aston Villa, Courtois has been sent to Wrexham to gain first team experience whilst Friedel is still number one at Villa Park. He is widely expected to eventually take over the aging American between the sticks in the next few seasons so Wrexham manager has every right to be delighted with this signing who will be key to the playoff push.

This does mean that new signing Kevin De Wolf has lost his positon in goal through no fault of his own, but the manager has reiterated his desire for De Wolf to be a key part of the squad in future seasons:

Kevin is still young and will go out on loan this season, with Gateshead receiving priority bidding. When he returns at the end of the season he will resume first team duties. De Wolf was originally going to be first choice this season but the opportunity to get Thibaut was too good to ignore.

In other news Chris Maxwell and Sam Williamson have been released from the club on order to bring down the growing wage bill at the club. Many others look set to leave bu the management are confident that clubs will be found for them. Aaron Martin has been sent back to Southampton after one friendly. Although Wrexham regret having to do this, loan spaces had to be opened up for players due to arrive on loan from parent club, Peterborough who are on the verge of several new signings.

Finally, reports have suggested that Alejandro Arribas has been spotted inside the Chairman's office, discuss a contract for his move to Wrexham. It is expected that an announcement will be made tonight or tomorrow on his capture.

Beckett has came out saying when did Ipswich take over Reading's name' date=' and he will be looking in to this braking news real soon.[/quote']

Local press reports mis-quoted manager Lee Reynolds stating Conor Wickham was on loan from Ipswich Town and not Reading. We would like to stress the player is on loan from Reading and thank Hammer once agin for his services.

Bradford drew 2-2 in an entertaining pre-season friendly with Watford at Vicarage Road.

Conor Wickham marked his debut with a goal inside 9 minutes rivaling in a shot off the woodwork.

connor_wickham_05_6_231006a.jpg

Stephen McGinn drew the host level with a top draw strike on 32 minutes. Captain Tommy Doherty started and finished a move to give City the lead again on 56 minutes

Tommy-Doherty_2517649.jpg

Once again though City were pegged back with Hamit Altintop, Watfords big name capture netting an equaliser with 4 minutes left. "That was a decent work out. Most of the new lads got some game time which is very important ahead of Saturdays opener at home to Cheltenham", commented Reynolds.

In more transfer news, City confirmed 2 more deals had been agreed. Stirker Lozano Rodri will arrive from Sevilla to sign a deal with City. The fee is £1.3m plus Gareth Evans.

Fellow countryman Ezequiel Calvente will arrive from Real Betis for a fee of £900k. The left winger/striker has decent pace and very good left foot and has been a regular with Betis this season but the thought of a new challenge and the yorkshire air swung the deal:)

ezequielbetis.jpg

"Rodri and Wickham will be a great partnership they will frighten defenses I'm sure. Ezequiel has a good left peg and bags of ability on the ball and he can cross a decent ball. We need to work on his defensive side though", commented assistant Peter Taylor.

More arrivals are promised but with cash tight the is likely to be a few departures first.

Juninho leads Boro to unconvincing draw

e0fbe767ac83f5fd2887cc15859bc697.jpg

A new era is upon us claimed Steve Gibson , however this new era wasn't apparent tonight. An unconvincing performance from Middlesbrough saw them only achieve a draw at division 3 side Peterbrough under the guidence of assistant manager Juninho who was only appointed yesterday.

6000 fans flocked to the Riverside in order to capture a first glimpse of the clubs new stars. Although not all were on show. Fans managed to see Bruno Cesar , Domizzi , Fritz and Taiwo as well as some departing stars such as Emens and Coyne who recieved standing ovations on leaving the field at the end of the match. However Ashley Duffy was not in attendance and it is roumered he is deep in discussion with two highly sort after players on a possible move to the Riverside.

Gary-Medel.jpg

Medel scores a screamer

The First half was an evenly contested affair with both sides failing to put any real pressure on the oppositions goal. Bruno Cesar did manage to show the fans what they could expect in the coming season , when after a through ball he burst away from the defence only to be judged unfairly offside. Departing Coyne was also in great form , making two fantastic saves from almost certain goalbound shots which kept the Boro fans on the edge of their seats. Boro's game then took a turn for the worst as just after half time Santos Zezinhio managed to counger up a unbelivably powerful shot that nearly took the back of the net off and put Peterbrough one nil up. This was the wake up call that was defienitly needed for the Boro players , after a series of attacks Gary Medel's shot finally broke the Peterbrough defence and the game was leveled at 1-1. The Teeside club were denied a last minute winner after the linesman gave a through ball to Gary Medel who had already sloted the ball home as offside to the utter disbelief of the Boro home support.

Juninho: The performance tonight wasn't brilliant , but at least it's only a friendly and we could of lost. When the gaffer is back for Saturdays game i'm sure the performance will be better and the players will be better prepared. Sergio didn't get registered in time but the lads who played tonight showed glimpses of their potential and we are hopefull this is just the start. I'm chuffed to be here and with the responsabilitys the gaffer has given to me.

Pyatov Signs For Leeds

GYI0064232380_crop_450x500.jpg?1302127438

Pyatov Will hope to avoid heartake at Leeds

It has been rumoured ever since Duffy took over that the main transfer target the leeds board had assigned Duffy the task of signing was a new goalkeeper after prevouis Keeeper Kasper Schmeichel told the Club in a emotional meeting that he wanted a move to Europe to experience the beautiful game in a diffrent part of the world after coming to the conclusion he would never be up to standad to play in the Premiership again. Duffy had been said to try and convince the Dane to stay although in the end gave up and gave the young goalkeeper his wish. Duffy then had to find another goalkeeper to allow for the move to happen due to the club only having Schmeichel on contract so leeds tuned to Tawfeeq Salie the 19 year old South African has been signed for 10k on a four year contract and has been told he will be playing Acadamy football for the time being. With Salie Joining Duffy could get down to bussiness and after missing out on orignal targets David De Gea and Allan McGregor because of the two goalkeeper rule set out by the Smfa , Duffy turned to Shakhtar's Goalkeeper Andrey Pyatov the Ukraine Intertaional has featured in nearly all of Shakhtar's fixtures last season and is very highly rated amongst lots of clubs in Europe. Leeds Approached Shakhtar Officals with the offer of a trade for Goalkeeper Kasper Schemeichel and Winger Llyod Sam the Shakhtar Officals were said to bite Duffy's hand off with agreement to the deal althoughthe deal couldnt be completed untill the early hours of this morning after the Volcanic Ash situation caused delays and problems for the millions of people traveling however Pyatov was able to take flight to norway and then caught a ferry over night singing his contract as soon as he docked in West England. Pyatov Joins United on a 2 year contract worth around £31,000 A week.

Duffy:

What a great signing we're very excited to welcome Andrey he'll play a big role in any success we are likely to have this season. I'n very happy we've been able to sign a player of his reputation under the radar making the deal all so much sweater

Still More Transfers For Gateshead!

KEBANO, Neeskens

828042_mediumsquare-150x150.jpg

This lovely player who has been capped for Paris S.G. twice and is only 19 is set to be a hot prospect for the future. This singing caused some dispute in the famously racist Gateshead squad as they had never seen a mixed race man before. Manager Cedd Cook looked very pleased to have him on board and said;

He's the light to guide Gateshead through this stormy division! He's a good player and im not going to let some racist comments get in the way of that!

FERRANDO, Federico

FedericoFerrando_2008.jpg

Federico plays for ever improving Reggina and will definitely help Gateshead's already firm defence! The whole club is looking forward to having an Italian footballer on board as all of Gatesheads players have not been past France. Cedd Cook was quoted in saying;

This player will demolish the Blue Square, as quickly as I demolish peoples decency!

Wrexham Sign Arribas

1263830442_extras_portadilla_0.jpg

Arribas' reaction on hearing Wrexham were interested in him

It has been coming for a while but the Wrexham board have finally announced the signing of young star Alejandro Arribas. He had been in contract talks all night with Wrexham struggling to meet his demands. The standoff was eventually resolved when manager Barnaby Dowling decided to cancel the loan deal for Aaron Martin, who unneeded after this huge signing, to cut the wage bill. Arribas has been an ever present in Rayo Vallecano's successful promotion bid and has taken a big step down to join Wrexham after the manager convinced him that they are going places.

Arribas is not the only person in Wrexham's new squad to have been promoted last season and he, Eric Tie Bi and Danny Seaborne will be looking to bring their winning attitude to the club.

In other news, Joe Widdowson has become the second player to swap Rochdale for Wales and will be a useful utility player. He has had good season in league 1 and his presence in the squad will be welcomed. He is still only 22 years old and Barnbay Dowling believes that he can develop to be a key part of the squad.
