Wycombe Victorious On Opening Day!

Wycombe_Wanderers_FC.png

Wycombe Wanderers had a tough trip to Burton Albion last night to open their Division four campaign. Both Wycombe and Burton had not made too many adjustments to their squads' in the transfer market but both clubs had brought in new managers'.

Wycombe's starting eleven included the experienced strikers; Robbie Fowler and Benjani (On loan from Blackburn Rovers). Burtons main transfer was the Brazillian goalkeeper Barriviera Vanicius, who made his debut for the club last night.

The final score was 2-1 to Wycombe Wanderers thanks to two goals from Robbie Fowler. Steve Claridge described Robbie Fowlers performance;

"Were running out of superlatives to describe this guy! He's on fire!"

After the match, Chazza wrote on Twitter:

"It's vital to start your season well and we hope to keep up our winning ways and hopefully get promoted this year".

Stockport signs new winger

102883.jpg

Stockport County signed the Italian winger Luca Siligardi today. The 23 years old Italian comes from Internazionale in a P/E deal with Matthew Peterson going to Italy. Siligardi is Stockport's 5th new signing after Bastian Muller, Afriyie Acquah, Matt Doherty, and Steve Beleck. Stockport manager Jor Hberg said that Stockport still is looking for more transfers. He wouldn't give us any names, we'll see that soon..

We created the chances, the lads were poor finishing them. Not Happy at the Current Time, with Lallana being a bit of an idiot he will be dropped for a few games in the League, after his ban. At Least we are off the mark, and didn't lose. Concentrate on the Founder's Cup today, I don't know if I'll risk playing Lallana again tonight, I'll call the boy up to my office tomorrow and find out. I'll probably get Lambert to keep an eye on him.

Bragging Rights Put On Hold

Burnley 1-1 PNE

burnley_pne.jpg

This was the match both sets of fan's looked for when the new fixtures where announced, and they didn't have to wait long to see the fixture take place as the two Lancashire rivals fought it out on the first day of the season. Before the game, it looked as if just about every one of Preston's new signings were to start for the lillywhites and the rumours were proven to be right come 8 o'clock.

The game was kicked off by Burnley who in recent times have managed to snatch the bragging rights from Preston, doing the double over them last season. The most insulting defeat for Preston coming at Turf Moor last season, when they were 3-1 up and came out 4-3 losers, conceding three goals in the last six minutes of the game. Thing's didn't exactly start well for Preston either this time around, when ex Preston favourite Ross Wallace somehow managed to scramble the ball over the line after a scramble in the Preston six yard box and the Scottish international didn't exactly make things better for himself, running off and celebrating in front of the heart broken away fans.

The Lillywhites could have equalised within minutes of the opener had Paul Parry not dragged his shot wide after beating the offside trap. Though that miss was not going to prove vital for Preston, as new CB Sebastian Neumann unbelievably managed to smash the ball home after it was laid to him neatly from Mark Van Bommel. The German U21 signed for North End on Thursday, hopefully this goal will send his confidence sky high going into the game against Nottingham Forest on Monday.

Things could have got even better for Preston in the second half had that man yet again, Paul Parry not blasted his shot over the crossbar and in to the Burnley crowd. But 1-1 is how the game finished, a result whites boss Ben Newman thought was a great start to his reign in charge.
Ben Newman

When the fixtures came out last week, it was very exciting to see that the opening game was against the local rivals. It's always a great fixture to look forward too, not just for me and the players, but for the fans aswell. The atmosphere is always great home or away at derby games, I remember the feeling going down to the game against Burnley or even at the time Blackpool so, the disapointment, the anger, the frustration. It was all worth it at the end of the day when your team put up a fighting spirit. A point is a great start to the season, especially away from home. We just have to look forward to the Forest game on Monday and go all out attack in hope to win the game.

Re: English Championship 7777 - Match Reports,Transfer news etc.

West Bromwich Albion 1-0 Fulham

WBA_Crest.jpg

The Baggies start off the new season with a tense, single-goal victory over Mike H's Fulham outfit. Hopes were high with the West Brom fans before the game as they were impressed with both the new playing and coaching staffs and they were not disappointed as the new boys got off to a winning start. The lucky goalscorer was none other than Italian hotshot Fabio Quagliarella.

There was a surprise in the selection made by new boss, Arsene Wenger Jr, as he changed from his favoured 3-5-2 formation to counter Fulham's 4-3-3 (W) as he said "It's suicide to play 3 at the back against formations with a lone, central Striker, so I had to change something." The boss decided to change to 4-2-3-1 formation with Quagliarella up front on his own and Aleandro Rosi came in at RB. Marcus Berg was the man to miss out and new signing Mathieu Flamini was deemed unfit and watched the game from the sidelines. Portuguese international Tiago took his place in a double-pivot with Kim Kallstrom.

The game was a midfield battle for the first 15 minutes as both teams battled for supremacy and control of the game. Mark Schwarzer was the 1st keeper to be called into action as he parried two long distance efforts away. Then Fulham started to pick up the pace and Tiago's presence prevented Pastore from having a great chance in the 20th minute.

Just as it looked as if the West Londoners were getting on top, Fabio Quagliarella came up with something stunning. He beat two defenders on a slaloming run before slotting home a wonderful effort in the 22nd minute.

388a984d6464a0e80d3147df50b7-medium.jpg

Fabio seems to like the fact he has not needed

to change kit colours and gets staright back

into the scoring form he showed fo Juve

last season.

Just 12 minutes later, West Brom nearly made it 2 as German CB, Benedikt Howedes, stepped out of defence and slapped a shot against the crossbar. In the 39th minute, young winger, Nico Gaitan, did a similar run to his team-mate just a few minutes before but couldn't keep his composure to finish. That was all the action in the first half and Arsene Wenger Jr, went into the dressing room extremely happy with his boys.

Fulham came out very early for the second half, presumable after recieving a rollicking from manager, Mike H. They started the half with more intensity but couldn't create anything of note until the 67th minute when Stankovic broke into the box and went down under Tiago's challenge. It seemed as if there was contact but referee, Douglas McDonald waved play on.

Stankovic-3-dejan-stankovic-13272346-120-105.jpg

Stankovic shocked not to get a penalty

That sense of injustice seemed to spur Fulham on as just two minutes later Klaas Jan Huntelaar was played through and, one on one with Diego Lopez, blazed over. Fulham kept probing but West Brom defended well and kept chances to a premium until the 89th minute when Fernando Navarro broke through down the left and swung a peach of a cross along the 6 yard box and Javier Pastore stretched agonisingly but he coudn't get a foot on the ball. That was the last action of the game and the referee blew his whistle soon after and West Brom start the season with a hard-fought victory.

After the game new Club Captain, Marcelo, had this to say, " We are very happy to start the season with a victory as we knew Fulham were going to give us a good game. We started well and after Fabio beautiful goal, he does it all the time in training, we knew we had to keep it tight as Fulham would search for an equaliser. We defended extremely well as Fulham did not even have a short on target. Hopefulle we can push on and do well this season and do well. I can already say I'm extremely happy to have a chance to captain this wonderful group of players."

12197__52475081_marcelo226.jpg

Marcelo celebrates at the end of the

game.

West Brom go to Bolton on Wednesday and they hope to pick up another 3 points to continue their good start to the season.

Nottingham Forest vs PNE

Preview

ForestvsPNE.jpg

Nottingham Forest

Forest threw away a 1-0 lead in the 74th minute to lose 2-1 at home to Doncaster on the opening game of the season, Stock and Gillett being the criminals on that day. It isn't all that bad though as Forest came away from the game injury free and with no suspensions, though they will want to put the loss behind them and move on. During the season close, The Tricky Trees managed to pick up young Dutch international Gregory Van Der Wiel and with stiff competition from the likes of Chelsea and Newcastle you have to admire the way Angus Taylor brought the RB to the City Ground.

Preston

An away trip to Burnley on the opening day of the season was never going to be easy for Preston, but despite the doubts they managed to come away with a point, drawing 1-1. In the last few seasons, Turf Moor has been a bit of a fortress for the lillywhites and it looked to be the case again when ex fans favourite Ross Wallace gave the 'Dingles' the lead early on. But Preston fought back and grabbed an equaliser through new German CB, Sebastian Neumann who signed for the club on Thursday evening. Going into the game with Forest though, PNE have a lot of un fit players, will this make a big difference tommorow night?

Overall

Both teams are struggling with fitness in and around the squad, with Preston having the worse case out of the two teams. Forest will want to bounce back from the defeat at home to Doncaster last night, which is something the lillywhites need to look out for as Nottingham try and unleash their rath. You would expect there to be a few goals in this game, with both sides improving their attacking force during pre season. Question is....who will come out on top?
I am very disapointed with the loss to Doncaster. Two late goalkeeping mistakes cost us badly' date=' that shouldn't be a problem against Preston with new keeper Artur coming in. With a hectic scedule i will be having to rest Van der Wiel and Martinez but we should still give Preston a good game[/quote']

Ledesma leads Boro to opening day glory

Middlesbrough_crest.png

A Crisitian Ledsma second half strike saw new manager Ashley Duffy and his Tesside club Middlesbrough to a close one goal victory over tractor boys Ipswich. In a closley fought battle at Portman road debutant Ledesma's strike was the only highlight in an other wise dull match.

The first half started off slowly with man of the match Crisitan Ledesma making the only real attacking threat in the first ten minutes with a rapid run down the wing which was then easily sorted by the Ipswich defence. Maurizio Domizzi then picked up the first caution of the match in the 16th minute for Violent conduct toward a member of the opposition team. Middlesbrough then took full control of the game with Sergio Floccari instrumental in the increased tempo after having a dangerous cross only just cleared and then in the 25th minute the best chance of the match up to that point when his delicate chip came back off the crossbar. Boro then upped the tempo futher with Gorginio Wijnaldum twice running at Vital Dede to no avail. Ipswich however had the last chance of the first half which German right back Clememens Frtiz managed to clear from inside the 6 yard box.

Crisitan wins man of the match after stunning debut

Ipswich started strongest after the break with Sergio Romero left scrambling for two long range efforts within minutes on the restart. The one way traffic continued to until the 60th minute with Sergio Romero tested twice more and Hugo Campagnaro coming close to undoing the Boro defence only to be denied by the linesmans flag. In the 71st minute referre Alberto Undiano Mallenco booked Ipswich midfielder Denys Garmash and from the resulting free kick taken by Clemens Fritz , Center midfielder Cristian Ledesma managed to lob the on coming Fernando Muslera and score in spectacular fashion. With the 2000 traveling fans going crazy , Boro broke again quickly only to have Clemens Fritz trip over the ball and watch it roll into opposition possesion. With tempratures rising on the pitch a minor scuffle was broken up by the reffere in the center of the pitch with no cards issued. However only moments later Bafetimbi Gomis recklesly challenged young Bazilian Bruno Cesar off the ball and duly recieved a straight red. The game then quietend down with many of the Ipswich fans walking out of the stadium before the final wistle with Boro retaining 95% possesion in the last 5 minutes of the match. Smoggies fans remained in the ground for 15 minutes after singing the praises of the team and espically new manager Ashley Duffy.

Duffy: What an opening game , it couldn't of gone any better if i'm honest. We got lucky with the goal as Ipswich had been all over us for about 20 minutes previous to that but overall we dominated the stats and we deserved to win the game. My thoughts go to Jonny Eller who was also coaching his first match today but i know from expierence he will bounce back and Ipswich can be a big force in the future. The travelling fans were excellent today and i hope they will be just as good against Swansea in the week.

Division 2 - Turn 2 - Swansea V Middlesbrough , Preview

Championship-Football-Betting.jpg

wpid-Middlesbrough-vs-Swansea-City.jpg

After a one nil victory on day one of the new championship season against Jonny Eller's Ipswich , Boro will today travel to the Liberty stadium in hope of carrying on a potentially good start for the Teeside club against Rob Walshie's Swansea City who themselves have Title ambitions after an opening day victory against a extremely strong Leeds United side.

Middlesbrough
will be fielding a slightly differen't team to that which won on Saturday with Ashley Duffy unwilling to risk his major stars in 2 games so close together. It is Understood that man mountain Erwin Hoffer will get his chance to prove why he should be considered a first 11 candidate by replacing Sergio Floccari for this game. Last Saturdays match winner Cristian Ledesma will also be given a benched role tonight as the coaching staff look to find out if the back up midfielder De Feudis is capable replacement for the Argentinian. Sergio Romero is set to keep his place and in turn try and keep a second consectutive clean sheet.

Swansea City
carry the home advantage into this tie , however Boro have already proved that away from home their travelling support is enough to encourage and motivate the players to a decent result as seen on Saturday. Rob Walshie is no stranger to Ashley Duffy and from previous expierence both will have a good idea of what sort of tactition their opponent will be. Rob is famed for his wacky attacking movements and encourages his players to play a style not repeated by many in the division although succesful. Players such as ex Juventus winger Pepe and attacker Yan Konnan are Swansea's main threats although Defenders such as Kana Biyik and Goalkeeper Oliver Baumann also show the quality Swansea posses.

Juninho's One's to watch

Swansea City - Yan Konnan
- A great attacker who could really put on a show for the Swansea fans tonight. He will pose a great threat to the Boro defence which is sure to be weakened without the likes of Fritz and Navarro.

Middlesbrough - Erwin Hoffer
- The debutant will really want to prove to the smoggies faithful why he should be considered for a starting berth on a more regular basis. The big forward will be hoping to secure a positive performance as well as result for the team in order to give the Boro fans something to sing about.

Gareth Southgate: We're confident of a result tonight and after Saturday we have the foundations in place for this to be a great season. People say after game 1 you still don't know who's going to have a good season but to me it shows the teams who have had the best pre season and the ones who have the determination to get going quickly and do well straight from the off. I personally think we can walk away from the Libety stadium tonight with smiles on our faces and 3 points in our pocket.

AFC Wimbledon 3 - 1 Luton Town

Monday 30th May 2011

Blue Square Bet Premier

Kingsmeadow

Attendance: 3,176

AFC Wimbledon made it two wins from their first two fixtures this evening as they comfortably dispatched of Luton to maintain their place at the top of the Blue Square Premier.

In a fairly uneventful first quarter of an hour, it took just under 20 minutes for the deadlock to be broken, and to delight of the home fans it was a goal to the good as tricky winger Mirko Opazo netted a goal on his debut. Receiving the ball on the right-hand channel, the Chilean dummied his marker before cutting inside and firing a low, fizzing shot underneath Hatters keeper Kevin Pilkington to put the Dons one up.

15 minutes later, Opazo nearly doubled his tally as his curling shot just outside the box was only just tipped round the post by Pilkington. The game seemed to lull after the Dons' first goal, with neither side creating any clear cut chances. However shortly before half-time, Luton frontman Christopher Kullmann squandered a great opportunity to level the score for the Hatters as his feet got tangled and he missed a complete sitter from 5 yards out.

As the teams emerged from the tunnel to signal the start of the second half, it was the Dons who came out strongest and their good play paid off when they doubled their tally 5 minutes into the half. A very well executed counter attack from the Dons, after a misplaced pass by Luton midfielder Evander Sno, put Young-Wook Kim through on goal and the highly rated Korean midfielder had no trouble in rounding the keeper to make it 2-0 to the Dons, showing why he was so sought after over the summer.

12-05-2011-04-05-0_2227432b.jpg

A jubilant Danny Kedwell after Kim

puts the Dons 2-0 up

However the goal seemed to galvanise the Hatters and they really turned up the heat, having two golden chances to pull a goal back. But on the 65th minute, on-loan striker John Guidetti took his chance as he buried an easy tap in, after Dardan Rexhepi had hit the post with a stinging shot, to pull a goal back for Luton.

The celebrations were short lived though, as three minutes later a piece of individual brilliance from Opazo killed the game off for the Dons as he curled in a stunning free-kick from 20 yards out. The goal knocked the stuffing out of the Hatters and the game petered out before the final whistle blew to signal an important victory for the Dons.

The only negative in what was a fantastic evening, was the injuries to defensive duo Michelangelo Albertazzi and Ryan Jackson who both picked up ankle injuries. We do not know at the moment how serious the injuries are but they are sure to miss the next few games, but we will relay more details to you as and when we receive them.

The manager wasn't available to comment but we managed to grab a word with Assistant Robbie Earle after the game:

"A great performance from the lads this evening, i thought we were worthy winners as we made Luton pay for their poor finishing with some fantastic counter-attacking moves. Mirko had a stella game and i was delighted that he grabbed a brace on his debut as he deserves it after all the hard work he's put into training this week.

Me and the gaffer had to field a weakened team tonight, as due to the hectic fixture list we are having to rotate players a lot to maintain peak fitness levels. Even so i thought the lads did excellently and played what was pretty much a Luton 1st XI off the pitch. We are gutted about the injuries to Michelangelo and Ryan, you need every squad member available during these busy schedules and hopefully the injuries aren't as serious as they look."

A very impressive performance from the midfielder. He capped his performance with the winning goal 12 minutes from time against Derby.

Donkey of the week - Thiago Motta.

Motta got sent off with 2 minutes to go for Cardiff against Coventry for headbutting an opponent. A disgraceful action that has no place in football.

Manager of the week - Aidan Quirke.

Surpassed expectations after getting two wins from two with Doncaster. Well done indeed sir.

Division 5: Round 2

Kettering Town 1 - 1 Darlington

Monday 30th May 2011

Rockingham Road

Att: 1,201

Darlington endured a tough afternoon that ended with the Quakers salvaging a draw away at Kettering Town. This was a game that Darlo should really have been winning if promotion is a realistic target. However it was Kettering that took a 1-0 lead in to the half time break following a goal late in the half from K. Appiah in the 43rd minute. It took Darlo until the 68th minute to reply when Kenneth Zohore's deflected shot spooned into the goal to give Darlington a somewhat fortuitous point away from home. Nevertheless a disappointing result for the promotion hopefuls.

Match Review - Season One Turn One

Leeds United 2-1 Portsmouth

fs_andre_villas_boas.jpg

A tweak of tactics works for Duffy

Many Leeds United fans will be nurseing heavy heads this morning after Last Nights 2-1 win over Portsmouth in a very exciting encounter. The victory handed Duffy his first Leauge win after losing to Swansea on the opening day of the season. Over 27,000 fans came to Elland Road to watch the tie and they were'nt dissapointed they witnessed a game which included twenty shots and three goals in a real end to end classic. Leeds took the lead midway through the first half when Leeds Czech centre forward Libor Kozak was brought down in the box after a succesful counter attack from leeds leading to Refree Alexandru Deaconu pointing to the spot. Libor Kozak stepped up took a long run up and then smashed the penalty out of the reach of Portsmouth Goalkeeper Hugo Ventura. Leeds Picked up two early yellow cards before the penalty decision with Libor Kozak and Henrique Sereno getting disaplined fairly. In the run up to and after the break there was a swing in possesion with Portsmouth becoming the more dominate team gaining chance after chance and puttng added pressure on the Leeds goal without much luck however in the 47th minute Dutch winger Luigi Brunis scored a lucky rebound which haded Portsmouth a much deserved foot hold in the game. With Pressure growing in the Ground on the Leeds Manager Aaron Duffy he called for his lads to push forward although he couldnt make a subsitute due to the subs being rested for wednesdays clash with Shorpe. However the second string held onto the ball and continued to break up Portsmouth attacks with the pressure building on the Leeds Goal however the Plucky little Czech stirked again Libor Kozak was found by a Emre Pass to leave him clean through on Goal which he slotted home in style pushing the ball under the falling goalkeeper injuring himself in the proccess the injury will see the young striker out for eight days meaning he will miss the next three to four games however his stike won the game for Leeds whos fans we're delighted with the result and Kozak and should there appreciation by signing happy birthday to the 22 year old forward. Leeds saw out the game in a cagy style with Juan Zuniga picking up a booking but they saw the game to a posative conclusion and Duffys first Competative win at the helm.

Duffy:

It was a great display by are lads today i'm proud of them, Portsmouth are never a easy team to play against so three points is a huge bonus. I think that Libor had a Fantastic game and it will be great to see how he develops in the coming months and years however his injury isint as bad as first thought and we will hopefully see him back the Bristol City tie on the 8th of June however he will miss out three leauge games and 2 founders cup fixtures which is a great shame.

One Sided Affair Ends All Square

Scott+Loach+Simeon+Jackson+Watford+v+Norwich+hCgQYzWXIP6l.jpg

Norwich City are still looking for their first victory of the season after a frustrating night at Vicarage Road ended in a draw

Going into the game City gave debuts to 7 new faces, as changes were needed to be made with so many games in a short space of time. Going up against a strong side in Watford, not many would have predicted that the Canaries would dominate the game.

It was a tense and scrappy opening to the game, with both sides receiving cautions early on. Then after 35 minutes Watford went infront. Hmit Altintop was put through and slotted home in off the post.

The goal seemed to kick the Canaries into gear and just 2 minutes later, a free kick was headed back across goal by Marc Tierney and Marcio Mossoro was on hand to tuck home to bring the scores level.

After the break, City were controlling possession, but were failing to create any clear cut opportunities, despite the efforts of Leandro Damiao up top on his own.

So 2 games down and the Canaries are still looking to get their first 3 points on the board, and up next is a trip to Deepdale to take on Preston, and many anticipate that there will be a full strength side on show from City.

Norwich City Manager: Joe Robinson

It's frustrating when you control the game for large periods like we did but not take away a victory. But we have to take positives from this. We our producing efforts at goal, and playing some great football, so we'll pick up our fist win sooner rather than later.

B -team put in second class performance

Middlesbrough_crest.png

Boro's revoloution hit an obstacle last night after a trip to Wales and the libety stadium resulted in a 2-1 loss and an injury to reserve left back Bennet. Not only did the trip produce no points , Duffy's men now face a race to fitness ahead of tommorow's clash with Watford.

Gary Monk was booked early after a unessecary early challenge. He was then in the thick of the action again as on the 9th minute when a brilliant through ball left him with just the keeper to beat and he tucked it away with pure brilliance. Boro then went all out attack with Torun showing why he was brought in after the advice of club coach Mendieta. Even with all the pressure Boro failed to make it count and at the break the score was still one nil. Ashley Duffy put the pressure on at Half time and it showed when in the 53rd minute De Feudis , a man highlighted pre game to stand out by Juninho , scored a technically brilliant goal , darting past several defenders and sliding the ball past the on coming goalkeeper. However the Swansea players hit back with attack after attack and 11 minutes after the scores were equaled Swansea won a penalty and Dobbie slotted it away past Sergio Romero. The onslaught continued and Boro had no futher chances in the match. Gary Monk did however get his second yellow and will now pick up a 3 match ban.

Duffy: Im dissapointed if im honest , well done to Rob but we really wern't at the ball park tonight and it showed on the field. The main guys will be back for the Watford match so hopefully we will have a positive result in front of our own crowd.
