Re: Counter formations

Whats peoples views on the best formation to beat 4-2-3-1. Got an important game tomorrow and have came unstuck against the same team in the past. Our team ratings are more or less the same.

I've noticed in my league that 4-4-2(unmanaged) has had some joy against 4-2-3-1 but i usually play 4-5-1 with arrow pushing the attacking midfielder forward to help the striker.

The tactics the team with 4-2-3-1 plays with are below

Tackling Style Normal

Mentality V.Attacking

Passing Style Mixed

Attacking Style Mixed

Tempo Normal

Pressing Own Area

Counter-Attack Yes

Men Behind Ball No

Tight Marking Yes

Play Offside No

Use Play Maker No

Use Target Man No

any help would be greatful' date=' thanks[/quote']

try 5-4-1. if your ratings are same, maybe defensive is enough. use short/direct pass, with normal/slow tempo. I'd check men behind ball and counter attack.

Going to be playing against Barcelona. They play 5-4-1 with defensive tactics. Suggestions?

I have Bayern' date=' so typical strong mid/attack, average D.

With Xavi, Iniesta, and Messi in the midfield, even with my players I'm thinking flanks are my better option. 4-4-2, 3-5-2, 4-4-1-1, 4-5-1.

I'm the away team, and given my place in the table, even a draw here would be an acceptable result.[/quote']

I'd try 3-2-2-2-1. normal tempo, short pass, normal mentality.

That's a big squad to try to keep happy with player concerns (unless they are turned off). I'd trim it down to 22 first team players and as many kids as you like. It will save you tons on wages.

Holtby is your best player for now and the future, he's going up in the future, he's captain of Germany U21s and plays pretty regular for Schalke.

Give 4-5-1 attacking a try.

First of all I don't think it's like Rock - Paper - Scissors so there is no way of saying for sure that my 4-4-2 will beat your 4-3-3 etc, it's a lot more random than it's made out to be and all the effort we put in to the tactics screen is time not wasted but it's not as important as we think in terms of the result.

Sure, change things around at 60 or 75 mins and bring subs on (always bring 3 subs on) but don't go bonkers, so perhaps go from 5-3-2 to 3-5-2 and swap the full backs for wingers etc.

I think 'mixed' or 'direct' passing are perhaps the best option as 'short' passing is for the top quality teams with superstar, skillful players.

Some teams of mine can't play certain formations like 5-4-1 for some reason but you will soon be able to tell if your current crop can use a formation by trying them out and seeing what happens.

Re: Counter formations

what about team instructions pls.

I really don't think it makes too much difference what tactical options you choose, leave them all as defaults it won't change your results.

If you twist my arm, I'd say start off with Normal/Mixed on everything, Pressing = All Over and I like to make an attacking player my captain. If you are losing at half time or 60 or 75 go to Attacking fast pace, direct passing and try your luck attacking down the flanks. I never play defensive mentality, but that's just me being a lover of the Brazilian style of play.

Like I say I don't think it makes too much difference really, but that's just my opinion.

;)

Re: Counter formations

what is best against 4-1-3-2

There is no perfect answer to any formation as there are too many variables and lets not forget the good old randomness of SM.

Like Chokehold says, but don't forget to bring 3 subs on, whether you want to or not as those half games will help out your player concerns later down the line.

Re: Counter formations

What's the best way to beat a unmanaged team who are using 433 or 442 ? Please help ! My team is very strong:

Manuel Neuer, David de Gea, Thibaut Courtois - GK

Patrice Evra, Gareth Bale, Yuto Nagatomo - LB

Thiago Silva, Javi Martínez, Chris Smalling - CB

Rafael da Silva,Maicon,Nathaniel Clyne - RB

Franck Ribéry, Nani, - Wing

Wesley Sneijder, Thomas Müller, Lucas Moura - AM

David Villa, Robin van Persie, Sergio Agüero - FWD

They are my main players, I've got loads more but they're the low rated ones.

Going back to my question, how can I beat a unmanaged team who are using 433 or 442 ? Thanks :)

Re: Counter formations

maybe 4-2-3-1 or another 5 midfielders formation.

any idea how to beat 3-5-2?

4-2-3-1 usually works for me. Didn't actually beat them but can sure as hell stifle them.

Re: Counter formations

i used info found on this thread very useful in beating 4 3 3 wingers

http://forum.soccermanager.com/showthread.php?t=111699

Things on that thread might not work though cause it was in February.

The match engine changed since then.

How to beat 4-3-3 wingers ?

Not to sure' date=' but I would probably have a go with 3-5-2.[/center']

Re: Counter formations

Anyone have any idea how to beat 5-3-2. I've had trouble against it as long as i can remember' date=' tonight i play a team that uses that every game.. I was planning to go 3-4-2-1 like this thread said but as Ben pointed out, the[b'] match engine has changed[/b]

well we need to update the first post a job for SUPER HYINA don't we..:P

Last I saw two equal sides battled a 433 wingers and 4231 were able to overcome 532 2-0. I may not want to risk using 3 at the back since those wingbacks can murder you ..
