Wolfsburg Get Their Man

FC-Porto-president-Pinto-da-Costa-insists-that-Andre-Villas-Boas-will-not-leave-the-Dragons-in-the-summer-65304.jpg

New Wolfsburg manager David Francis is presented to the fans

After weeks of searching for a new manager, Wolfsburg believe they have their man. They have shocked the football world by appointing relatively unknown Englishman David Francis as their new manager. It is the second English manager in the last year that has been in charge of the German side, however Francis will be hoping that he doesn't follow the same fate as Steve McLaren who had a disastrous reign at the German side.

Francis has been handed the task of trying to get VfL Wolfsburg promoted from Division 2 of the newly formed World Championship and then cement their place in the division and maybe challenge for major honors.

He didn't waste any time, as he immediately put every member of the Wolfsburg squad up for sale, as he looks to make his own squad of players he believes can take Wolfsburg up the leagues and win them trophies.

Francis Confirms First Departure

Grafite has played his last game for Die Wölfe

Within an hour of taking over Wolfsburg, David Francis has already began making his mark on the squad. He has agreed to sell Brazilian striker Edinaldo Grafite to Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk for a fee believed to be around £10m. They originally made an opening offer of £7.5m but that did not meet the asking price of Francis so Shakhtar upped their bid and it seems they have got their man.

It seems that Wolfsburg manager Francis is going for a more youthful squad and is looking for players who have yet to reach their full potential. Since his take over, Wolfsburg have been linked with a number of players such as Charlie Adam, Charles N'Zogbia and Asamoah Gyan.

Thomas Vermaelen signs for Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg can today confirm their first signing under manager David Francis. That signing is Belgian center back Thomas Vermaelen, who joins for a straight swap for Danish center back Simon Kjaer. Arsenal earlier inquired about the Danish star only to be told they would have to pay £20m but they quickly countered with a straight swap which was quickly accepted by Francis.

Francis is said to be delighted with his first signing and as most of the squad is expected to be cleared out, it is believed that the Belgian center back will be made Wolfsburg captain for the season.

Arsenal are also said to be interested in making another visit to the Wolfsburg sale, as they have also stated their interest in playmaker Diego Ribas and the two clubs are said to be in advanced negotiations for the player and it is believed that the deal will be done over the next couple of days.

Wolfsburg Looking Towards Dutch Superstar

1273023_full-lnd.jpg

Could Robben be swapping Munich for Wolfsburg?

It has emerged over the last couple of hours that Wolfsburg have made an audacious bid for Dutch winger Arjen Robben. He has recently fell out of favour with the Bayern manager and has been left out of the team throughout the whole of pre-season. Wolfsburg are looking to come to a deal that will see Diego and another unnamed player leave Wolfsburg in exchange for Robben.

The fact that Wolfsburg manager David Francis is attempting to sign the Dutch superstar, shows his intent to make Wolfsburg one of the best clubs in the world and if he signed Robben that would be a massive step in making Wolfsburg such a club.

It is also rumored that Wolfsburg as well as Napoli have had a bid accepted on a mystery Italian based player, who is currently discussing personal terms with both clubs. However Napoli are the current favorites to sign him as it is believed the player would prefer to stay in Italy.

Manager David Francis confirms five new players at Wolfsburg

It was rumored earlier today that Wolfsburg were looking to sign Arjen Robben and a unnamed Italian based player but they have shocked the football world by announcing the signing of five new players. Francis said when he took over he would be looking to create his own squad and that he would do that by getting rid of all of their current players and replacing them with new ones.

The first confirmed signing was Argentine sensation Erik Lamela, a fee believed to be around £5.3m is said to have been agreed between Wolfsburg and River Plate and he is expected to be join up with the Wolfsburg squad in the next couple of days. Big things are expected of Lamela and has a bright future ahead of him and Wolfsburg will be pleased to have beaten off competition from AC Milan and Roma for his signature.

Lamela will have a big part in the future of Wolfsburg

Francis also raided his homeland of England for two of his new signings. Charlie Adam has agreed to join the German side from relegated Blackpool, with £5.2m and Srdjan Lakic heading to the tangerines. Adam who was expected to sign for a top English club shocked many by joining the German side. The other player signed from and English club is Blackburn and Congo center back Christopher Samba who has agreed a deal which will see £2.8m and Peter Pekarik join the Lancashire club. Samba has impressed many people around the footballing world this season with his powerful displays in which was a poor season for Blackburn. Samba is expected to form a defensive partnership with Thomas Vermaelen who signed earlier from Arsenal.

Francis also made another double raid but this time on Spain. Another young Argentine has been signed in Pablo Piatti who signed from Almeria in a deal worth £3.5m, Mario Mandzukic and Marwin Hitz. Like Lamela Piatti is another exciting young Argentine talent who looks like he will have a great future ahead of him. The final signing was Spanish full back Miguel Torres from Getafe. Torres signs for a fee of £3.3m with Sergej Karimov and Tolga Cigerci going to the spanish side. He is seen as a good signing by Francis as he can operate on either side of the defence which will be vital with the long season ahead.

A Share of Points in Brazil

São Paulo 2 - 2 VfL Wolfsburg

R.DIEGO 6

R.SOUTO 40, 86

P.HELMES 89

Wolfsburg started their league campaign with a 2-2 draw with away to São Paulo. The game stared brightly for the German side when on his return to his homeland playmaker, Diego Ribas latched onto a through ball and rounded the opposing 'keeper and slotted it into an empty net. Wolfsburg seemed content with the 1-0 land they became more and more pinned down in their own half. They were doing a good job of it until five minutes before the break when Rodrigo Souto scored an absolutely outstanding goal from thirty five yards out, which no goalkeeper in the world could have saved.

The second half continued as the first finished, Sao Paulo were putting mass amounts of pressure on Wolfsburg, yet they couldn't find the back the net. The closest they came to taking the lead was a thirty yard attempt from the legend known as Rivaldo which stung the palms of 'keeper Diego Benaglio. Despite all the pressure from Sao Paulo, it was Wolfsburg who came closet to scoring when Anunciado Josue hit the post after he managed to poke an effort goal bound after a scramble in the area.

However the Brazilian side managed to find a breakthrough when Rodrigo Souto managed to get his head on a dangerous cross from Luis Fabiano. It looked as if Wolfsburg were going to be heading back over the Atlantic empty handed until German striker Patrick Helmes picked up the ball on the edge of the box and curled it around the opposition 'keeper Rodrigo Ceni to give the Germans a share of the points.

Overall Wolfsburg manager David Francis is said to be extremely happy with his teams result and especially with the performance of Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen who picked up the man of the match award on his debut. Next up for Wolfsburg is a home game against big spending Manchester City, were Francis will be looking for his first win.

Koo has been shown the exit to make way for new talent

It has been another busy day in the transfer market for ambitious German side Wolfsburg. It has seen four players leave the club however they were quickly replaced with three new arrivals, in what is an extremely exciting day for the Wolfsburg following.

The first to join was young English star Connor Wickham who signed for £1.4m, with Kevin Wolze and Sebastian Schindzielorz thrown into the deal to help ease Ipswich with the loss of Wickham. He isn't expected to play a major part in the league however he is expected to lead the line in Wolfsburg cup campaigns this season. Wolfsburg managed to beat off Barcelona and Arsenal for the signature of Wickham as he believes he would get more opportunities at the German club.

The next signing to join Wolfsburg was Venezuelan striker Salomón Rondon who signs for £500,000 and Ashkan Dejagah from Spanish side Malaga CF. Rondon impressed clubs around the world as he put in many impressive performances last season for Malaga in a season that had little highs in it. The final signing was Mehdi Benatia from Udinese in a straight swap for Korean star Ja-Cheol Koo. The centre back from Morocco is expected to act as a back up to Christopher Samba and Captain Thomas Vermaelen.
