Roman Weidenfeller, sell or keep?

Recommended Posts

I am currently managing Borussia Dortmund in German Championship 1018 and I have Roman Weidenfeller as my first choice goalkeeper and captain, I have a stong defence:

Branislav Neven Mats Marcel

Ivanovic Subotic Hummels Schmelzer

(CB/RB 92) (CB 91) (CB/DM 92) (LB/LM 90)

I also have Jan Vertonghen (Def/DM 90) and a few youth players.

I was wondering if i should sell Roman Weidenfeller and buy a younger goalkeeper with the money I make from him?

He would most likely keep his rating in the next review due to Dortmund domestic performance. However he'll eventually drop in the future as he's already 31. I suggest you buy a younger goalkeeper like De Gea or Marc-Andre Ter Stegen if you would buy in the gameworld in the long run.

Most goalkeepers find the peak of their career in their 30s. Players like Neuer & Hart are unique.

If you can swap Wiedenfeller to gain a better talent like De Gea, Hart, Lloris etc. then do it, but he has no reason to drop for a while yet and there are other areas of Dortmund's squad that need improving first.

I don't know much about your youngsters but the players in bold should be pretty easy to find good replacements for. There are other players I'd swap for more talented players, but those choices aren't crucial.

I was thinking about swapping Niko Kranjcar for Xherdan Shaqiri when his trasfer ban runs out and swaping Damien Le Tallec + cash for Eduardo Vargas I am struggling to find a suitable replacement for Weidenfeller as I dont have much cash left, I was looking at Igor Akinfeev from CSKA Moscow as he is a consistent 91 GK, what you think?

Re: Roman Weidenfeller, sell or keep?

Yeah I know he is currently inuured but he is stil la a great goalkeeper

It's the second time he's screwed his left knee though, both serious injuries as well. Sometimes you just don't come back from that kind of weakness, both mentally and physically.

I'd have Weidenfeller over Akinfeev - better club, better national team, better league.. Age isn't a concern for GKs.

Getting Shaqiri for Kranjcar is definitely a good move! Why get Kranjcar in the first place? Bit weird but okay.. Yes, definitely Shaqiri or Muniain, Griezmann etc.. Shaqiri is still #1 for me.

Vargas is better than Le Tallec, but there are still better options available.. Oxlade-Chamberlain, Sturridge, Kleber, Damiao, Welbeck..

Better national team that he never plays in...

Better club for now but everyone knows Akinfeev will eventually move on to better things when he finds the confidence to leave Russia.

He's a much better keeper, but I wouldn't touch him right now.

Fair do's, weidenfeller doesn't get a game for German national team, CSKA Moscow are currently top of the Russian league.

I mainly got Kranjcar as a squad player to cover injuries.

I haven't seen Kleber or Damio really play but i know there is a lot of hype surrounding them.

I know Weidenfeller doesn't get time for Germany but he's still part of the national team and should get minutes if Neuer needs resting.

Being top of the Russian league isn't exactly impressive.. Dortmund are currently Bundesliga champions and still have a chance at keeping their title this season. They are constantly growing stronger as a team and they have no reason to replace Weidenfeller. The Bundesliga is also more highly rated by FIFA than previously.

I understand your reasoning on Kranjcar, but there are much better options available to be honest, just for squad-fillers..

Kleber & Damiao are young potentials without a doubt, of which there are plenty to be honest.

Yeah true he does have Rene Adler and Tim Weise above him for German national team.

I will keep Weidenfeller then :)

Yeah i plan to sell Niko Kranjcar and buy Xherdan Shaqiri when Kranjcar's transfer ban runs out.

I could do with a few more young risers to further bulk up my squad but I am now running very low on money :(
