Re: EC 10000 - Match Reports/Transfers Thread

In Arsenal's much anticipated opening day match, what looked to be an evenly matched game turned to a nightmare for the Gunners. Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny looked awful the whole match, and let in the crucial goal in the 81st minute that ended the Gunners. Also, the top defensive player on the squad, Mats Hummels, suffered a bruised ankle which is expected to keep him out of the next game against Aston Villa. Two more players will be missing the Villa game, Mikel Arteta and Gonzalo Higuain were both sent off, Higuain will be serving a 3 match ban, while Arteta will only be out for 1 match.

Arsenal will take on Aston Villa next without the services of Higuain, Arteta, or Hummels. This doesn't bode well for the Gunners from the outset, and they will probably be trying simply to get away from this game with a draw at best. Villa will be missing Victor Ruiz, who is also suspended from playing in the match.

CELEBRATION TIME: Felipe Anderson celebrates his second goal

Anderson 6, 48

Coquelin 38, 41

Lallana 58

Gomis 3

Fahey 5

Barnsley came from behind against Birmingham in an early season cracker at Oakwell to grab their first win of the season. The win moves Barnsley up to 6th in the table after two games.

Birmingham started fantastically well and took the lead in the third minute when Morgaro Gomis headed in a Jean Beausejour cross. They doubled their advantage two minutes later when Keith Fahey curled in a sublime effort from just outside the box into the top corner. This woke Barnsley up and they instantly went up the other end of the field to half the lead with an equally good goal. Felipe Anderson recieved the ball on the left and he cut inside his man and curled it in from all of 25 yards.

After a frantic start the game quietened down, with both teams creating and wasting chances, but Birmingham had the better of the chances and 18 year old loanee keeper Sam Johnstone was Barnsley's saviour. Barnsley started to come back into it and got their equaliser when another loanee Francis Coquelin tapped in after an Adam Lallana shot crashed off the bar. Three minutes later Coquelin put Barnsley in the lead after a poor clearance fell to Forestieri who calmly slotted the ball into the French midfielder who smashed the ball past the despairing keeper.

LUNG BURST: Francis Coquelin away to start another lung bursting run

The second half started how the first half did with a goal inside 3 minutes. This time it was a Barnsley goal and Brazilian Felipe Anderson grabbed his second, when he timed his run perfectly and slotted the ball past the keeper. Ten minutes later the game was over when Adam Lallana went to chip the keeper from the edge of the box and the keeper helplessly fumbled it into the goal to make it 5-2 and complete the Barnsley comeback.

Barnsley manager Murray Elphinstone said, "I think we deserved to win. We were the better team for 85 minutes, obviously we did not start the game well, but we picked ourselves up and looked dangerous on the attack. I am pleased with the performances and I believe we picked up some real bargains like, Anderson, Lallana, Forestieri and the loanees looked good as well."

Attendance: 15,454

Man of the Match: Adam Lallana

Re: EC 10000 - Match Reports/Transfers Thread

WEST BROM NEWS (because I'm bored)

So far there have been many changes to West Brom. A mixture of old and new players have joined the club such as Seedorf and Adryan. Balzaretti was the first player to join creating a solid back 3 -consisting of him, Pepe and Badstuber-. West Brom have also signed Ander Herrera from FC Schalke as well as Pizarro from the same club five days later. Money bags PSG then sold Menez to the Baggies for a record fee of 11 million pounds and since then there has been no further action in the transfer window.

Jeremy Menez,during a recent interview.

The club currently sit in mid table 10th after a shaky start from Manager Harry Baskara. Things have improved however after beating the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea in the last two matches. In the cup competitions West Brom have made it into the forth round of the English Championship Cup after beating Millwall 2-0 however they now have a tough game against Sunderland.

The fans couldn't stop cheering after the win at Arsenal.

With a new Manager and fresh new signings, the future is looking bright at The Hawthorns. As usual Harry Baskara is continuing to look for fresh new signings while trying to push his side into the top 4.

Thank you for reading :)
